A day caching over in Golden Bay, slowly picking off caches left from previous visits. A stunning day, caches found, maintenance completed and caches put down.Had not been up here in ages - probably the early 90's for a Mountain Bike race. Arrived at GZ and after circling a few rock formations soon came up with the goods. All good here.TFTC BigglesNZ#9876
I think this is a great location. I liked the view from the road, but it was even better once I dived in past the first screen of vegetation. Awesome spot. Cache found quickly, TFTC Biggles.Easter Sunday, and we had loose plans while heading out toward Collingwood. On the way, we wanted to do the Aorere Goldfields loop walk up to Druggan Dam, an Ad Lab out at Collingwood, visit the Mussel Inn in the afternoon, and pop over to Wharariki Beach. We achieved all of these except the last one, as that was a bit of a bridge too far and we had run out of time. There will be another day. But all up we got a good handful of caches and visited some places neither of us had been to before. And that is what geocaching is about, so that is a success. Thanks all COs. Some photos from our day added.
Located with Ricardinho Another cool location on our drive in to hike the Aorere Goldfields. Loved the rock formations here RNZ made quick work of locating the cache. Day 3 of our Goldenbay Getaway & today we are off to explore the Aorere Goldfields, hike to Druggans Dam & the Cathedral Cave & finish up in Collingwood. We did have Wharariki on the agenda for today but we just ran out of time. Another fabulous day in paradise TFTC
We have been talking about the caches in this area for a while. This was the weekend that we hoped would be fine enough to come and do some exploring.
We have been here before but we think it was before we discovered geocaching so that was a few haircuts ago.
Today we arrived and while gk made lunch I went for a wee look to see if I could find it. With only a little bit of wandering I soon discovered the cache, what a cool place. The cache is in good order so the log was signed and we headed off for an adventure after some lunch
Thanks for placing this cache and thank you for the smiley

So many great rock formations had me doing loops but I got there in the end. As the muggles began arriving. Tftc
A nice quick find thanks. What an awesome spot, and a lot of fun. Fav point from me.
Found as we explored more of Golden Bay. A great day for it, fairly quiet on the roads and on the walks.
Thanks to all CO's for publishing and maintaining their caches. Cheers.

.Wow these boots are cool. GPS struggled here to get a fix on gZ. Wandered all over the place before finally tracking this elusive one down. Cheers. Fav from me.
Its Saturday and we are off exploring around Collingwood and up towards the Heaphy.
Its a long weekend to Takaka, with Collingwood and Farewell Spit in the mix, with Zara Toby and Bullertroutss Bro. So lets go exploring. Visited lots of awesome places. But never enough time. I will be back.

Thanks to the hint I found it, otherwise it would be a pain - the coords were hust jumping around like hell.

Lots to see out off the road too! Zeroed in on this pretty quickly. Seemed too obvious so put a rock on the bright lid.
Thanks

Wow, stunning rock formation, thanks for showing. A great place for our 1500th found in NZ. And a fast found too. TFTC
Went to Collingwood for an ice cream and decided to take the long way back to Patons Rock. Grabbed a few caches on a loop and headed home with a few smilies. They do look like boots! Took a bit to locate but we got it in the end.
Thanks for the cache BigglesNZ.

It's safe to say that I can't imagine I'd have been likely to happen by this route had it not been for geocaching, so thanks to the CO for that.
That's certainly a mighty fine pair to be sure.
Happily, despite working on my reserve phone, I did not make the devil's work of finding the cache.
Nice one.
Thanks

It was only now I remember that I had a TB that needed to end up in a cache beginning with 'D'. It's probably best I did forget as it might be here a while.

Fascinating rock formations, got distracted admiring them and forgot about searching for the cache but SJT_NZ reminded me to get back on the job, a quick find and all in good order.
Found with TregearP on our way to have a look at the nearby goldfields. TregearP got a bit distracted with the geology but soon had her back on the job and she made the find.
All in good order, signed log and replaced as found. Great place for a cache .

I have set myself a challenge for this year to have at least the same number of caches on each day of my calender as the number of years I have been caching.
Today the target is four but I just might go over that number. Well, the devil has all of his body upside down in the ground.
Cheers for the cache.

Who would have thought there were so many spare pairs out the back! These boots always bring back very fond memories of a trip here with a friend and our boys when they were all quite young (I suppose we were too come to think of it). I'm not quite sure what we were expecting but just laughed and laughed when we saw them - we were in that sort of mood that day after being bailed up by a goat at the museum earlier. TFTC # 10,665
Relatively easy find, cache not concealed. Cache container very wet but replacement log dry.
We loved this place. What a great name for a natural phenomenon. The cache took us a while to find be we didn't give up. GPS was all over today but the clue was helpful. Cache is really wet but sadly we wre. Ill equipped to fix it. Next cachers bring paper ! TFTC. This gets a favourite from us.
Great location, such a cool landscape. To the owner- entire cache is soaking wet so was not able to sign. Can send you a pic if you wish to prove I really did find it
I think I've found one around here before.
Impressive bunch of rocks.
A quick find and sign. The hardest part was getting through the bush wall from the roadside.

No problems finding this cache after taking a short wander to look at the main features.
Thank you BigglesNZ.
Thank you BigglesNZ.
Some nice features here. After a brief walk around enjoying what mother nature had to offer we made a quick find. On a mission today we're leaving the loop walk down the road a bit for another time. Thank you BigglesNZ
This is a very nice one. Nicely hidden. The cache itself was getting very damp. It needs to be replaced.
Awesome location. Well worth 2minute drive of main road. Ttc. Note: log is a little damp but writable
Stopped off for a look after a walk up to the dam. Took me a while, GPS was a bit flaky as one would expect. I was standing there letting it settle a bit when I realised I was standing right next to it. Good spot for a cache. I can remember find the previous one just after I started caching (2008). Cheers and TFTC
We had been here a couple of times before but weren't into geocaching on those previous visits. This time was different as we were geocaching. After searching in many many crevices and holes in many many rocks we finally found it.
#10275. A really interesting feature; well worth a cache. Quick find once we had found our way to GZ. TFTC.
In Golden Bay for the weekend, mopping up unfound caches and this was the first of the day. Cool feature indeed and that is one giant devil, funny to think he is lying with his feet in the air!. I made sure I didn't park under the overhanging bits as they look as though they could break off at any time .
Thought access to GZ would be tricky but after climbing over the initial barrier of vegetation, it was an easy short walk. GPSr was pretty good despite the enviroment and cache was a quick find. Well worth a fav point and thanks for bringing me here. TFTC.

Found it after a visit further up the Aorere. A great place to swim through the paddock just here - is summer! Interesting to come back here with my first home being a couple of hundred metres back down the road.
Found at the start of a lovely day out in this area - visiting from the UK. SL TFTC
We didn't take too long to find the cache at this fascinating feature - worth a favourite. TFTC
Holidaying with tmann421 in the North of the South Island. Many thanks to all the Co's for making this such a memorable trip.
Nice find here.

Fun day geocaching in the area with Just-Lookin
Soon had another good find, very unusual rock formations - someone had parked right under one of the big overhangs - don't think I would have wanted to do that.

Second cache here. That is starting to happen more often. Never tire of visiting these fascinating structures. Always have a think about what the rest of the devil looks like - - - and how far down he goes. TFTC
Found on a day's exploration around the region, letting the geocaches lead me to all the interesting places. This one was certainly a spot that I would never have known about otherwise. The cache was a quick find with coordinates that were surprisingly accurate for me given the terrain. Signed log, TFTC!
Found while on an afternoon drive through to Farewell Spit. Had a great time here with all the younger EU crew going for a swim. Great spot - gets a fav from us. TFTC
A very interesting feature, and enjoying exploring a little more in search of the cache. We then went to the river for a swim and playtime in the river and swimming holes nearby. TFTC, #6077
On my way home also stopped here and grabbed this cache. Really interesting formations. TFTC. Sherlock Hood.
Tricky under all the cover - neat place tho. Easy to spot when in the right place and would be somewhat higher than the heads of some people!
Yeah well...the last one took some finding....this was totally visible on approach, but all good.
Agree, great spot for a cache.
Thanks for that

Found this one quite exposed and full of water so did my best to dry it out .. If memory serves right (I did a number of caches yesterday/same day) the log book was ok thanks to ziplock bag, but I added a 2nd (bag) to be doubly sure it would hold up if cache fills up again, and used a few extra rocks to keep it upright & covered .. Should still be obvious to those looking for it
Thanks for the hunt!
Thanks for the hunt!
These two unusual limestone structures are worth a visit to veiw. Most unusual No signal in the bush, but look around, you'll get it.
Found on way back from start of Heaphy Track. Reception a little hazy but with the clue soon spotted the lid. TFTC
A sidestep to a familar spot before caching home. Mrs Sobad did a solo reccy then called for reinforcements. Of course, she then spotted the spot, but it was handy to have a 'higher' person in the end. We had read most of the listing.... but not the last line so the familiar container was a surprise. Pleased it has been put to good use and it brought back good memories.
Thanks.
Thanks.
TFTC! I found your cache today and i will do a complete log when I get back to my computer. BAck to this New zealand after a holiday and time to start cleaning up a few of the emerging caches in this area . We had a lot less trouble on this cache than the previous one and it wasn't long before another smiey to add to the collection. A place like this does need to have a cache in it always admire the boots

Whilst waiting for the coast to clear for a proper look at your Collingwood Multi we decided to pop out here to do the cache at the "boots" Stretch0's been here several times and we had done the previous cache here - we headed in expecting our gps not to co-operate but today it put us within cooee of GZ and Stretch0 soon had his hand on the cache thanks for bringing us here and giving us something to do before we go back to the multi !!!! signed log
Amazing rock formations and a good hiding spot for a cache. Favourite point from us. TFTC.
Great area for a cache so good to see a new one back here. I knew the gps would struggle and it counted down reliably until with 15m to go I hit a barbed wire fence. Backed up a bit and soon spotted the likely hidey hole. Yep cache there. Gps still reading 15m which is probably pretty good in here. TFTC.

On our way home from the spit and thought we should grab this one too.Always great to come and visit the cool formations.Nice quick find and we were on our way again. Thanks for another smiley.
FTF. Everyone must be all tuckered out after the holidays, four days and no takers ! Well it's up to the local then:) Whenever I look around this area I think of the bulk of the human history here and the explorers who would have been led into the bush from the river via this string of formations. Back when this valley was dark with tall trees and raucous with birds. Thanks for putting another cache here. Hi to the watchers. Tupaia.
Could had been a FTF by accident, but I was a little bit too late. Nice location. Good found only with the coordinates. TFTC!
