The Moorabbin Rocket has launched itself into oblivion ... time to let it explore the universe and free up the space for another
Not many people around on this public holiday so a good search was made possible. Not even with the help of a previous finder was this cache able to be found.
Great coordinates. Did take us a little bit but happy that we found it TFTC
Was in Benalla about 6 weeks ago and doing a cache there. Looks like there was a rival rocket programme in operation ! See pic.....
I had scoped this out using Google satellite view (fitting) and thought it really would be best to find on the weekend when the industrial area was quiet. So, needing a cache for the day and noting the forecast of a thunderstorm in the afternoon and noting the ominously dark clouds in the sky I thought I had better find a cache closer rather than far away.
I parked quite close by and walked to GZ where the cache was quickly spotted. Signed in the car and then returned the setup to the place where it was found. That was some story and I gave it credence until Werner came up. Thanks to Two_Drews for placing it and abl973 for maintaining it.

TFTC! Quick find with mrx2. Will have to tell Vati who works across the road to find this one!
Read this amazing story a while ago and drive down that road often. I had seen the rocket but hasn't really registered it before. Thanks for the background. Seems like it would make a pretty awesome movie!
Despite my proximity to it, I only today finally got to actually stop the car and look. I now know what 'hidden in the usual way' means. Lol.
Thanks. A favorite just because I'd never know the story otherwise.

Really cool story about the rocket! Easy find with Chedda67207 when following the compass.
Logbook is full so had to write on the back of it.

Easier when you stop looking in rocket and follow compass! Log getting full, tftc
Found this sneaky but clever hide after pulling a park in the closest driveway by chance, which made for a quick walk to the gz and find. What an interesting story about a remarkable man and his rocket. Reminds me a bit of of another clever inventor named Wallace with his dog Gromit and their homemade rocket that actually made it to the moon. Many thanks Two Drews and abl973 for the hide.
Catching up with Happy pants and omegaman1971 to attend a nearby event and then to have a day out caching. An easy enough find at GZ.
Thanks Two_Drews for placing the cache for us to find.

Miserable wet evening! Running early for an appointment down the road. Stopped and discovered there was a cache a couple of hundred metres away. No excuse! After a fairly quick search, I found the Rocket, and signed the rather crowded log.
Then on to my meeting... Thanks.

Mark is catching up on some very old logs, this cache was found along time ago with 4bait or Mark9375
Found with 1k2ate but for some reason my lig didn't load when I was checking back through my finds. This was a nice easy find but it took us 2 days as on the first visit workmen were fixing things at GZ TFTC
Walked up to GZ keeping an eye on one possible location. However decided to inspect one possibility a little more carefully and noticed something a little strange ... And there it was. Retrieved the container and SL. TFTC
Great background story. quick find as virtually no traffic on a Sunday afternoon. TFTC.
I was caching in the area on the DBT series and noticed that this was close by. Not much traffic. A quick find. TFTC.
Drive past here a fair bit taking the geokids to Waves for weekend swims, but never seemed to have an opportunity to stop and search, so made a special trip this evening.
Loved the story and very apt container work - a nice easy find post-supermarket shopping late tonight.
Signed the log, thanks for the cache, Two_Drews.

I ducked out after dinner to pick up a few unfound caches. This one certainly wasn't where I was expecting it to be. Great hide. TFTC
We found the treasure after a play on the rocket. Our gizmo kept leading us around, but we finally found the common hiding place it was located at.
Arggh! Our 3rd DNF for today. Spewin' when other cachers comment 'easy find' and I'm loitering for ages! Will be back!
A quick and easy drive by as we cache our way around the area today. I remember a very similar rocket being at Point Roadnight beach on the Great Ocean Road when I was a little tacker. Must be about 45 years ago now. Strewth, where did all those years go. Love your history lesson, and a bit of poetic license doesn't hurt. We managed to park so close to the hide that the fourby worked perfectly to screen our activity. As an added bonus we visited the 4wd shop across the road and picked up a part I have been meaning to buy for a long time and a couple of handy maps too. Thanks for bringing us here and thanks for the cache.
Oh wow! What a story. Thank you for sharing and bringing me here today. I have passed this rocket many many times. It has quite a history. Nice quick find on a lovely Saturday afternoon. TFTC
Great creative cache! Interesting story especially for kids. Giving this one a well deserved favourite point. Quick but fun find on a rainy Sunday. TFTC
Find # 300
On such a nice Anzac day, we thought we'd do some cache maintenance and also pick up 3 more to get our 300 finds. Knowing the name of this cache and knowing the rocket that is here, we headed straight to the rocket which was handily muggle free as it was a public holiday. While geoson 2 (6yo) tackled climbing the rocket, I checked the details and realised that it was actually across the road. Under supervision from geoson 2 at the top of the rocket, I headed over to gz and quickly found the target. Geowife and geoson 2 came across the road to checkout the great container. We signed the log and returned everything. Thanks Two_Drews for a great cache to clock up our 300.

Good find today!! But the real rocket wasn't any help but I like the shape of the cache
I vaguely remember seeing this one time as we drove past. A quick stop at the Rocket and a walk to GZ soon had us with the container in hand.

To cute by half!! After the geo kid had climbed the actual rocket I thought I should look at the actual coords. Silly me.
Found the previous finders broken pen which he left behind as rubbish as well.

Good camo lol not really very good idea though can be spotted by muggles easily tftc
An excellent cache which Lionlord found and very much appreciated. TFTC here - great history as well although I'm not sure the rocket here is quite what is suggested...
Found with Mrs Blue Duck some time ago. I recall a visit to the American grocer for some essential supplies for Mrs Blue Duck. This was a fun one though. TFTC.
I had been here previously some months ago without luck. I read that it was up and running again and came back. Loved reading about the history of the rocket. In fact, loved both rockets
Thanks for presenting this story Two Drews. I have driven past this icon many times but didn't know the very interesting history! Neat cache hide too Need to be a bit careful crossing the road here at peak hour, some cars act like they are powered by rockets!!
I grew up in the area and climbed up into the cockpit on many an occasion in my youth, fond memories. Enjoyed reading of the history of the structure, learn something new every day. Cache well hidden and required all my stealthy powers to safely retrieve, excellent.. thanks..!!
Out to st.kilda for birthday lunch.
I was so busy admiring the slate fence, my buddy had fabulous cache in hand.

Fantastic find. I loved the uniqueness of the story and the imagination of the hide. High muggle area everyone so watch out! Thanks for the catch!
Reading the logs made us double check GZ location and we found it within seconds
Cute funny cache. Thanks
Cute funny cache. Thanks
Tftc . Whilst having a roof rack fitted I thought i would pick up a cache i had read about. On the way there read the interesting story . Saw rocket imediatley searched it before putting Gps on
A daring grab on a cold and wet day while a muggle sat in their car on the other side of gz.
Liked the cache container but it didn't do much for unobtrusive signing.

Suscoe's 13th find of the day as the sun was shining brightly.
The rocket looked impressive.
A quick find thanks!!!!
Well done to the Two Drews.
A favourite for the story.

Found with MrsBlackDuck after we went shopping at the American Grocery store around the corner. Very very cool container in keeping with the theme. I am awarding a fav point! Thank you for the fun time!
Seasoned cachers will find this one. Love it.
Sunday morning not so much traffic so geokid and I sneaked it and logged in down the road.
Sunday morning not so much traffic so geokid and I sneaked it and logged in down the road.
so, 3 months ago I took Geoboy out with me and we stopped at this location. We looked and looked and looked. Geoboy even climbed the rocket to the top to help me look from a bird's eye view. But to no avail. We looked everywhere we thought it should likely be, then opened up our circle wider and wider. Again, to no avail. We posted our DNF log and moved on. We noticed a short time ago that the cache was lost and that CO had replaced it but we hadn't had the chance to check it out again. Today I was in the area and a little early for my business so thought I'd stop by and give it another go. This time, I went straight to the logical spot we checked first up last time and lo and behold there it was. As I removed the cache from its wonderfully hidden location, I jumped for job and laughed out loud at the fantastic camouflage the cache was hidden in. I'm sure if there was not a nearby lawnmower covering my laughter that there would have been a few people looking at me. I signed the log and returned the cache to its hiding place and took off. This was a great cache and a favourite point coming your way to the CO's. Thanks guys.
After a DNF on this one back in February and seeing it was replaced just had to have another go and today was the first time that I was vaguely in the area (family lunch today!) so I took the long way home to drive here. Toby&trixie was with me and she was happy to hunt a cache. Parked over the road and walked across and I spotted something in the first place I looked last time - then let T&T do the retrieval - nice container on this one and very apt! Thanks to Two Drews for this one.
Out with Dad and we came here - this was an easy one! Really liked the rocket! Thanks
Find #972
I needed a find for the day and knowing I had a busy day of jobs at home I took the opportunity of an early morning trip to Bunnings for some floorboard stainer to make the stop here. I'm glad I did as it was an interesting cache in an area where there isn't much else. Pulled the car up near to GZ and I was in luck one of the first places I checked. Enjoyed the camo and the inventive(!) story that went with this one. Took nothing, left nothing, signed log and visited my personal TB. Thanks for the cache Two Drews and it's back to the floorboards for me.

Went out to the family for Easter dinner and picked this one up with some newbies who were quite surprised to find a rocket. Very simple but fun find

We'd come for a look last night, and headed straight for the structure. (Wrong move). I (Miss A) immediately thought I knew where the cache would be and set to work climbing the structure, certain it would be at the top. Climbing through a 20 inch hole in work gear was much harder than I thought, but then I got really scared just below the top deck when it felt like the whole structure was swaying, so we bailed with no cache. On the drive home we realised we'd been at the wrong GZ and actually READING the cache logs told us we had to return, so tonight after the gym we headed straight here. This time, we followed the iPhone to GZ and although Miss A failed miserably on the hunt, Mr A found the cleverly hidden cache within a few seconds. It wasn't rocket science.... or was it? So with renewed confidence and more sensible clothing this time, Miss A decided to run back and attempt to climb the structure, all the way to the top, without freaking out. And this time, victory was hers. YEAHHHHH!!!! TFTC Fav point to be awarded once we earn some more.
Gear bit of local history and a cute cache container. This is exactly what Geocaching in an urban environment should be about. Thanks for the fun hide!
Quick find on the way back from the sports store, I saw the notification that this one had been re-enabled and read the description and it stuck in my mind, on Sunday we happened to be driving by the exact spot so was able to park the car and quickly locate and sign the cache - all without a gps. Loved the story and found the cache container to be a scream. Thanks for this one Two Drews! Great work!
With all the DNF,s and no finds for months could the CO check on this hide please.Thanks.
Geokid and geodad looked for ages and could not find it. Usual looking places and some unusual ones checked to no avail. Next time maybe.
was in the area and this was the nearest cache so detoured slightly to have a hunt. I have been past here many times and seen the rocket - reminds of one in a playground in Kew. Anyway, parked right at GZ and started the hunt. Looked in all sorts of spots with no luck, I will keep an eye on this one and try again. Thanks to Two_drews for the history!
I searched and searched and searched. Maybe I was getting tired after a long day at work, but I could not find it for the life of me. I had spent so much time out the front of a well known bird (who was closed), security may have thought they were going to have to deal with a mad woman. The sun was setting on me and that was my cue to come back another day.
No luck today. I searched the pole at GZ but couldn't find anything. A hint may be useful to determine if it's still there or not!
Visited GZ this morning and spent a good 20min searching without success. Had spent much of my time pondering where the rocket was and where at GZ components that made the rocket was? I had returned to my car and was about to leave when I spotted the rocket! Had a good laugh & cringed when I saw it. However no cache this time. Will be back soon to do another search.

Just time for a few final caches before heading home tomorrow!
This was my last cache find, making 75 in Australia in 6 days Tomorrow is a 26 hour journey home, airport to airport with road travel each end too. With the 16 hour time difference I still manage to get home on the same day, although it's gonna be a long one!!
Great cache to finish on - it made me laugh

24/09/2014 15:13 Checked out the location in question but its not at GZ. Logs confirmed the structure, cute as it is, is not home to the cache. I got to GZ fairly easily and then searched about, even checking what I later found to be GZ. Retrieved the neat hide (I liked it!) and went about signing the log. It was only then I noticed the guy opposite having a smoko break. I am unsure if he saw me get the cache as I had my back to him, but time will tell. TFTC Two_Drews TNLN SL
In the area tonight with a couple of hours to kill. Thought I'd do a little hunting around, hmm felt a little exposed . Tftc
Fancy trying to build your own rocket. A wonderful, daring cache for such a public place. Thanks Two Drews
I was fascinated reading Bill Bignell's story and his wonderful dream. This country needs more people with vision and passion in any endeavour and Bill is a fantastic example of this. Loved your cache honouring him A favourite point for both the history and the cache itself Thanks Two Drews
Great cache! Good quality hide.
This rocket has been here ever since I remember--ever since my parents can remember as well!

Awesome find considering I grew up round here. So happy to find this one. Great cache, just wish I had a pen. Tftc
