This took way too long. I should have examined the obvious place better on my first 2 scans. Anyway, another one to log at my old hometown after a fantastic sesquicentennial (150yrs) celebration. TFTC
Unable to search as a man appeared from a neighbouring house and started to chat. Although unable to look for the cache I did learn from this chap that this was used for hauling logs out of the little wanganui area and relocated to this resting place in the 1990s. Love the nearby tractor too!
All quiet on this corner thank goodness. We were able to study the engine at leisure. Didnt take long for Mr Curzzz to figure out the unusual hiding place. Lovely cache hide, thanks.
As we arrived in Karamea, we have a lodge booked in the Riverside Motel. Just across from this cache.Greatly hidden.Photolog cause i forgot my pen. #3,951: The Little Smiley That Could!I came to this one with the GeoMissus before starting the Heaphy. Not much traffic late this afternoon, so could search in peace.SL/TFTC!
On a Motorhome trip with a group of friends. Having a good look and cycle on the west coast.Cheers for the hide.
Down south from Tauranga. On a roadie with a group of friends. Great to collect a few caches along the way. Biked out here and got the head in and wullah. Many thanks.
2.15pm. Walked round twice before deciding on the likely spot, and there it was.
Thank you. David and Noeline.
Thank you. David and Noeline.
After a too short, enjoyable stay in Karamea the uncertainties of the Interislander Ferry called but were happy with one last cache. TFTC
Very interesting thing! Like it and also like the container. Favourite point from us. TFTC
Heading on a wee family summers holiday.
Reefton done, now time for a few nights in Carters Beach.
Today's adventure was to head up to the Oparara arches, on our 'list of things to do' for too long. Stopped at a couple caches along the way to break up the drive.
Quick find and sign here, what a cool old machine, thanks.

Yet another work and caching trip for us. Weather is bit wet today. Cache was easily found with the help of the hint and it is all good here. TFTC.

Rode the bike from town to get this one. What a great old engine. Am surprised items still move on it. Thanks for the hint as it resulted in a nice fast find. Thanks for placing this cache
A cool engine. Lots of places to explore. Finally located the right spot. With madcow2. TFTC
Great hide thank you. On my way to do the arches and caves today. I hope the rain goes away.
Day 12 of three weeks winter motorhoming in the upper half of the South Island. Drove from overnight stop at Mokihinui Beach to Karamea and the start of the Heaphy Track today, before returning to last night’s spot again. Picked up a few caches along the way.
Took a few minutes to locate this one. Several places it could have been! Needed Mrs tbird’s help to find it. Yes, it truly was inside! interesting piece of machinery and our last cache for the day. #4151. TFTC.

Thanks, had looked for this one a few years ago, can get the smiley this time. TFTC
Stopped by here on our return from visiting Moria Gate, the Box Canyon and Oparara Arch. My cousins used to live at Market Cross so have been here previously. Thanks for the hide! #6596
Thanks holymu for placing this cache
It was a huge machine but luckily only a few options for a cache to hide...
Initially didn't feel anything so stuck my head in the hole and looked around.
All nice and dry and attractive but the tether is not attached to anything.

Found with NZDi. We are staying at Carters Beach Holiday Camp as a base for a few days geocaching on the Wet Coast. This is our third day on the Coast and today we are heading up to the Oparara Basin to do some caching, picking up a few roadside caches along the way. The weather left a lot to be desired, so there are some green gaps along the route where the weather made us bypass the pickings available.
This is our fourteenth cache of the day and was done while were were returning from Oparara Basin. The were still showers coming through, so we timed our finds during the dry spells. If we missed any caches on the roadside, it probably was because it was raining as it does on the Wet Coast, so we bypassed them for a finer day. I'm sure there will be more visits to this area in the future.
As the cache description says, this was a QEF PnG.

Found on a very damp day after spending 2 nights in a campervan at Karamea.Sent Mr Team B out in the rain to grab this one Great hide, thank you!
Due to NZ being at Alert level 4 and some people insisting on continuing to geocache and put others at risk I am disabling my caches until such time as it's safe to resume this activity.
Any logs I receive for finds during this time will be deleted. I don't care anymore about YOUR safety than you obviously do but I do care very much about others and want them to be safe so please do NOT look for any of my caches while they are disabled.
In the meantime, there's always plenty of puzzles to be solved or created but above all PLEASE STAY SAFE EVERYONE!

This old engine resting in a newly mown grassed area certainly deserves a cache. Phew, found quite quickly, thanks holymu.
A sneaky, clever hide; found after a short search. A favourite point awarded. TFTC
Having just had 4 amazing days walking the heaphy track it was time to head to Westport for a couple of nights but not before catching up with a friend who lives just up this road... stopped and got the cache on our way back ..had one of the boys retreave this ,. Turns out there is an easier way...doh ..must be tired ..
Time to be heading south, a few options here but rather obvious in hindsight! Cheers
A quiet day around Karamea, short walks and visiting the museum (the lady at the information centre phoned her contact, and he was very pleased to turn up at a prearranged time to open the museum). A traction engine... nice. We're usually pretty useless at this sort of cache, but Mr D put his hand on it fast.
Found the 3rd time coming here, awesome afternoon especially with the Tui and Kererus
Finally at Karamea, and first stop is this cool engine.
I was expecting it to be on the main road, but it a little more discreet here. No problems anyway, we took an end each and Capperz had it in seconds.
TFTC holymu, a milestone cache - number 3000 for me.
Day 3 of 3 day trip for Capperz and I with the overall goal of dropping off some keen bikers at the Heaphy track start near Collingwood and not failing to pick them up late on Sunday morning at the finish north of Karamea.
We had one job then, and happy to say we did it.
On the way, of course, we found some caches.......
Seddonville and north was the goal today. We had to pick up the riders at about 11am, so we packed up early and got on the road around 6.30 ish. First cache was just past where we left off last time we were here, and they kept coming.
A couple of fails, some caches past their best as well unfortunately, and a side trip to a cache that we discovered too late was just out of reach.
All good though, some good fun and we got there right on time.
Logs signed capric, or sometimes longer forms on the same theme.
A long drive back to Blenheim with no caching on the agenda.
TFTC to all the COs.

Good one another holymu cache for the collection, there will not be time for Big Rimu, though we did drive to the track start. Parked up here and inspected the item. I stuck my head in and spotted the cache and all good here and replaced as found. T F T C holymu.
Today is the third and final day of our East to West Coast Heaphy track caching challenge. We were requested to be at Kohaihai bridge for around 11AM so an early start was just the thing for leaving Seddonville camp site. We were on the road around 0630 and got to the track end at around 1100 so just what the doctor ordered. 3 of the riders were back already, and the other 2 arrived a short while after we got there and were heading for the new one at the swing bridge. For our journey today we managed 25 caches so made good use of what was available, as well as a couple of DNFs and a nearly trip to Big Rimu which turned out to be a bit too far with the time we had. We also solved a Multi but had a smidge of doubt so didn't head to the final. Turns out it was probably right anyway, oh well.
The weather started with a bit of rain which turned to drizzle which disappeared and was replaced by a warm yellow type of weather, ahh the West Coast at it's best.
This weekend I've offered up my services as a getaway driver. Nothing as dramatic as a criminal bank robbers assistant, more a chance for a group of work colleagues and associates to get away to do the Heaphy Track on their bikes. Ably assisted by ricardinho.nz as a co-pilot and driver of the geocache seeking devices utilising the route which I'd done a full and comprehensive list of before departing. The plan was fairly simple; early finish Friday arvo and take them over from Woodbourne to the Collingwood/Brown's Hut end of the Heaphy and collect them from Kohaihai bridge end late on Sunday morning. A late start on the Friday to get underway as a result of a delayed ferry arrival had us around 30-40 minutes late getting on the road and some fluffing in Motueka for dinner added enough minutes on to mean that we got to the track end on dark, and never got to the digs in Motueka until around 8.45 PM. There was still some time for a bit of 'in the dark' caching where I got 3 finds before hitting the sack, after a couple of refreshments, and a conversation with an aggressive illustrator from Wellington.
Day 2 yielded around 45 caches and some great scenery and sights up at the old mining and rail sites up above Denniston and Millerton. A real good West Coast caching day.

A quick spot but a little longer to get our hands on as the long armed one was not keen to lay down in the newly cut grass. When I saw this many years ago I thought it deserved a geocache.

We enjoyed visiting this wonderful old relic and after a bit of hunting around cache was in hand. Had a hoot and friendly have from a local who must have known what we were up to.
Thanks for bringing me to this spot, if it wasn't for the cache I probably would never have spotted this amazing relic! Also another nice small tractor tucked in the corner! TFTC!
