Thanks for the earth cache. I struggled to find the answers as there are 2 plaques missing so perhaps on them? So I used google and even that was hard. Now as Im logging I see others have struggled too to find the answers.
We are in Taranaki for a couple of weeks so picked a group of caches to earn the Equinox souvenir today. This was the second of three. Like others we were unable to find answers at WP2 (there were a couple of plaques missing) so did some internet research with limited success. On reviewing our photos later we found the answers all seemed to be available at WP1. Answers messaged to the CO. Thanks for the interesting Earthcache Cats&Dragons.
We had a walk along the breakwater taking in the views and the sun. Here we went to the two locations and gathered the answers though struggled at stage two as we think the relevant plaque is the worn one making it hard to read. No problem with the rest Answers sent to COTFTC Tim and Viv - ddm
Day 16: Around TaranakiTodays journey took us around the Taranaki Region, where we headed as far south as Cape Egmont before heading up to Pukeiti, and back to New Plymouth for two more parks: Tpare and Pukekura Parks. After that, we searched for the best views of the Maunga from Te Wera Wera Bridge and walked the Coastal Walkway back to the Port. Another truly productive day, and thanks for all the caches around the Taranaki Region. (End of the cut and paste bit)Heres the specific log for this cache: I never knew NZ had an oil and gas industry until I came to New Plymouth, so thats education for you. The information was collected from both the sites and I took a photo at the first location, as instructed - thanks for the educational cache about the oil industry here and TFTEC!
Answers sent I hope I got them correct. Too windy at the GZ to send the straight away. Thanks for the interesting history, I had wondered about the oil industry based here by t haven’t seen much sign of it. TFTEC

With ABCDF4, eyespyben, and Gap (of Fap and Gap)... A planned expedition into the Taranaki region. All logs were signed with our individual handles, or Team HRP (Huntly, Rotorua, Papamoa) depending on who accessed the logbook first...
It took us a few days to gather our responses. We tried to wing a night visit of ground zone that had us going in circles. Luckily, we had the sense to photograph key pieces of information for later scrutiny. We found all of the necessary information at one site. It was fascinating to see how much oil had been extracted, and so close to the port. Thanks Cats&Dragons. TFTEC.

I don't often get to visit the Taranaki, and even rarer is a visit to New Plymouth. But I had a reason to be here over the weekend, and even though that reason was not geocache related I still managed to sneak a few caches into my itinerary
This was one of those. I generally will seek out Earthcaches if I have the time for them as I like learning something new. I happened to visit WP2 first and was very confused as I couldn't find any relevant information for the 2 posed question. Feeling like maybe I had missed something, I made my way to WP1 where I found all the answers for both locations in that 1 place. Very odd!
But my answers have been submitted to the CO, so hopefully everything is OK.
Thanks for bringing me here today.

We are spending a long weekend in New Plymouth. Started with the Dawson falls loop and the Wilkies pools. This day we are spending in the city. A cache, a lunch and off to the coastal walkway where we found this Earthcache. Answers have been send.
Thanks for the cache

Here for an event at Ngamotu Beach, so it was busy! Lots of beach goers, decided not to post a photo from waypoint 1 as lots of people in it. Thanks for the cache!
Found with StreetWalkerNZ on our first day in and around New Plymouth. The weather was gorgeous and there were a lot of people out and about.
Interesting to read about the history of oil exploration in the area. As mentioned in my answers to the CO, the second WP may have changed since the cache was published and doesn't seem to have the answers required. TFTC.

#20979. This was an enjoyable earth cache (good to learn more the oil history of the area). Troodles sent answers and uploaded photos on behalf of us both. TFTC.
Didn’t realize there was so much oil exploration in this area!
Cool to learn a bit about it.
Thanks for the EarthCache!

A lovely walk this morning, not too much wind. A great overview of an important part of Taranaki history, I wonder what the future holds? Answers sent, TFTC.
A very interesting piece of machinery and the information plaque was informative! We enjoyed the stroll between waypoints on a lovely sunny Taranaki day! Answers emailed to cache owner. Thanks for placing this great earthcache.
What an interesting bit of history.
Happened to be in the area and couldn't pass this one up.

We knew there was some oil around. But with this earthcache, we learnt a lot about how oil "arrived" here, what is still working and how big this is. Thanks for the cache! Today main activity on the port was HMNZS Aotearoa...
ANZAC weekend in Taranaki. Focused on Adventure Labs and also whatever will be handy. This hide was one of them.
Last one for me today. Visited almost at dark. Short days....
Anyway thanks for setting it up.

Memories came back to me when I visited location one. When my brother and I were much, much younger we used to visit our grandparents and we often had most enjoyable days at the beach. The ‘donkey’ as we called it, always fascinated us. Silently working away for every hour of the day. It seems rather sad to see it now not moving.
I was the the beach In January 2008 when Justin Jones and James Castrission arrived here to become the first to cross the sea and travel from Australia to New Zealand by sea kayak. There were so many people here to welcome them.
Many thanks for the earthcache Cats&Dragons. A favourite point given for the memories.

On our summer holiday and we were heading for the top of the North Island - a first for both of us. We were stopping along the way finding a few caches and gathering information and photos for a few earthcaches and a few virtuals. We have never been here before so we were quite interested to learn about this and to be here on such a stunning day was an absolute bonus.I am logging this over a year since we were here as we had lost the notebook with all of the information required in it. But as the notebook has been found the answers have been sent to the CO. And I dug back through the photo gallery and found the photos I took while we were in the area (the photos showed me the date we were here).Thank you for a most interesting earthcache and for the smiley
My wife and I along with Arcane Junior are heading up to New Plymouth for a concert tonight. Naturally we planned to do some geocaches along the way!
After strolling along the boardwalk we realised we were quite close to this EarthCache so we thought we’d give it a shot to get our souvenir. What an amazing place. Very rich in history.
There were quite a few muggles around when trying to take our photo so I couldn’t get in as much as I wanted.
Sent our answers off to the CO. TFTC Cats&Dragons!

I have a history in the oil industry so interesting to come to this site and so great a fav too. Thanks
My first ever Earthcache! I have parked in front of this countless times over the years at 'pig out point' as it has been dubbed, but the second location was unfamiliar to me until today so that was cool to be lead to! So nice to be geocaching again! Today was a beautiful day and this was my last cache to attempt before heading home to Eltham for a much-needed sit-down!
Thanks for putting this one together. Was a wet and overcast morning when I attempted this one
Found with MrsC on our NZ travels from the UK, thanks. Found on a day wandering around New Plymouth. Answers sent to co
Some interesting details about the formation of oil and its extraction. As a previous log indicated there was no longer information at waypoint 2, we went to only waypoint 1 and were able to answer all the questions from there. TFTC
As I was standing on the beach collecting the information for the earthcache the first supermoon of the decade started to rise, a magic sight. An interesting earthcache, answers sent to the CO. Thanks for bringing me here

An rest day after a nice climb up the mountain yesterday, mostly drive by's and short walks. And of course earthcaches as the brain did not get the same workout yesterday as the body. TFTC!!
An interesting piece of industrial history. I wonder how much longer it will be last or will it be consigned to history for the sake of a sustainable future? TFTC.
Round the world trip Made it to New Zealand and will be traveling all around the Islands. Thanks for bringing up this cache!

In the general area for the TMGT cache so would be remiss not to take the chance to grab an Earthcache, my fave cache type. Answers have been sent to the CO and many thanks for the informative and interesting subject material.
Before Christmas gets here it's been agreed that a trip to New Plymouth is on the cards and a chance to grab a few more TMGT caches to boost the total. So we loaded up the PQ and the car and headed up SH3. Only a few finds today but it was more about quality than quantity.
In Whanganui for a week over Christmas, visiting and staying with our daughter and her partner and letting the news that she's expecting her first child, which will make 12 grandchildren for us! We squeezed in a cheeky trip to New Plymouth during the week and I advanced my TMGT cache finds to over 30, as well as grabbing a few more 'new' Virtual caches as well as my 180th Earth cache. Grabbed a cache on xmas day morning too meaning my 5-days will be complete on Leap-day next year - yay! Thanks to all COs whose caches I found and individual logs wherever possible.

Decided needed a mini holiday and made plans from coming back from UK mid year. I had picked an area of the country I have not visited before - New Plymouth. Once the Geotour had been published I had to change plans a bit to make sure I grab these along with caches I had marked as must get on the trip.

.It started raining so we hid in the Lye Centre for a couple of hours. Now the wet has run away so back out exploring. Come to check out Texas tea and capture the info for this earth cache. Cheers. Lots of great info on cache page. Thanks for the lesson. Fav from me.
Day 7 - Friday 20 December. New Plymouth area today.
The Seagnoid, Zara, Toby and I are spending Christmas exploring Taranaki via geocaching. Its been an amazing 3 week adventure. Rattls BBQ was a great event, meeting many other cachers. But also managed to fit in a few more events, especially New Years Day celebrating the start of 2020. Lots of caches - over 500. Lots of cache maintenance. Lots and lots of kilometers. And lots of amazing places visited along our journey. Mt Taranaki remained elusive for much of our travels and the caches on it at the top. Loved Pukekura Park Night Lights Show and the the Wooden Mechanical toy exhibition at NP Info centre.

Went up to WP 2 but could not find the answers anywhere. Went back to the oil pump near GZ and found all the answers there. Looks like the rock and plaque have been moved from up top to down here. Accordingly I am logging a needs maintenance as the CO needs to update the cache page to reflect the new location of WP2.
But anyway, I have the answers An interesting bit of history, like how oil was bubbling on the beaches. I never knew that NZ had any land bases drilling!
Day seven of Taybeedragon's and my big 3 week circumnavicaching trip around Mt Taranaki, starting from Palmerston North. Today is New Plymouth - we got here at long last! Yes, it's been a slow trip!!
Highlights:
* 3 weeks, 536 caches
* Mt Taranaki had been removed for washing, which was a bit of a shame. Even after it had been returned we were only allowed to see it for it was less than half an hour a day.
* High percentage of caches with crappy coordinates
* Amazing Pukekura Park
* AMAZING Pukekura Park light show!
* Pukeiti Gardens
* 3 notebooks full of cache notes for later logging
* Lots of cache maintenance!

Learnt a bit here from the plaques at WP2 and the info on the page. Must have been quite a busy sight down below during the 40's and 50s.
Up here for an awesome weekend jaunt with Karma Reprint, Team Gators and TheWanglers and to do a loop of the mountain in 48 hours grabbing as many caches as we could while having a good laugh. Logs signed as some derivative of (KT)^2
Cheers Cats&Dragons for the cache

A planned geocaching trip to the USA was shelved (but is all go for this time next year!) so we came up with a weekends Plan B. Taranaki with TheWanglers, KarmaReprint and KiwiMoose - logs signed (TK)^2 or a variation of. A really fun trip with the forecast rain and thunder seemingly always in the distance but never hindering us. A really fun weekend.
Day 2 dawned with a bit of drizzle but that soon cleared (whilst eating breakfast) and we had a lovely trip missing all the bad weather again. Harwea to New Plymouth the long way. Heaps of history; cool scenery and lots of laughs. Cheers all!
Now that is a lot of oil and gas! Nice informative earthcache - thanks for putting it together. Answers sent and permission to log given. Cheers.

A plan was hatched for a few of us to head to America for a Mad Mission. With life getting a bit crazy a downsized trip was organised as I had sorted childcare for the cachelets. The big America trip is now set for next year. We asked a member of our crew if we could go to Nelson, Dunedin, Auckland, Wellington, Hastings the answer all came back "I don't have many to find there". We left it to that member to suggest an area. He came up with New Plymouth and a loop around the mountain. That's a go from the rest of us. We sorted puzzles, gpxs, motels and a car and hit the ground running. The forecast was doom, gloom, rain, hail and lightning. Oh well, sounds exciting. We had very little of any of the weather that affected our caching and found we had all overpacked (thank God!).
Day 2: Today was a long day in the car 14 hours or so to our home for the night and then an hour or two after dinner before having a beer at the campground. We started in Hawera and went the long way around the coast with many detours. The history was amazing and the the lack of irrigation was very noticable to us Cantabrians. We once again missed the horrible weather!
Team_Gaters will send in our group answers.
Thanks for the cache Cats&Dragons.

It was time to assemble Team BOP as I hadn't seen these crazy people since the Mega. The plan was Taranaki via the Forgotten World Highway and we were all pretty excited about it. It was a big couple of days so forgive the cut'n'paste logs as I'm logging retrospectively and a few of the hides are starting to blur together. This cache was a bit of a wander round reading through the various plaques but it didn't take long and Davidson Clan forwarded through the required info. Cheers CatsAndDragons & TFTC
TeamBOP have come together again for a trip to the Naki. Team BOP consists of myself (obviously), McJandals, Philip.Perry and DavidsonClan.
After a wonderful breakfast down the road, we stopped by for this one.

On a spur of the moment roadie with Phillip.Perry, TNXPRO and Davidson Clan from the Bay of Plenty, a plan was hatched and here we are. Great to have these places to visit and many thanks to all you COs for the placements. Cheers Answers sent by Davidson Clan. Great history here.
**This was 1 of 20 caches that was found by me on the 15th of 19 days in New Zealand.**
**Which also was the 68th of 75 days that my travels thru southeast Asia and Oceania would last.**
Since this log is written on July 30th 2019 my memories from the visit is unfortunately a little dim. So there will be an generic log for most of the caches I did found.
If there is something special I remember from an specific cache I will write it instead of this paragraph.
The answers did I send via Message center on December 14th.
*During 19 days I traveled from Christchurch to Auckland in an SUV, that i also slept in during most of the nights. 5.956 km of driving did it take to visit the 351 caches that I have marked as found in c:geo.*
*Earthcaches was my main focus during the stay. And I manage to visit 106 of them. So New Zealand is right now the only country where earthcaches are my most found cache type .*

Beautiful afternoon down here, people making the last day of the school holidays and the sunshine, hope I did this correct, tftc
Back in Taranaki for a short visit, mostly to collect solved puzzles, but also to complete a few earthcaches that we didn't log last time. We enjoyed investigating the history of the local oil industry. There is a lot of informative signage in the area. Its hard to imagine all those wells dotted along the foreshore. Thanks for placing this interesting and educational earthcache.
As my wife was taking a shower this morning I headed out from the camper at Belt Rd Holiday Park and down here to the harbour to collect the required information. I had no idea that New Zealand had its own oil field before I arrived here so thanks for bringing me up to speed. As i walked between the stages I was amused by some surfers pulling on their wetsuits nearby. Surely the harbour is too flat for surfing?
As yet another rain shower was blowing through I headed back to the camper because we’re off up Mt Egmont (or is that Mt Taranaki?).
Thanks for the education and the cache!
Thanks Cats&Dragons for the geocache!

Another great earthcache by Cats&Dragons. Interesting to read up about the oilwells although it's not really my scene! Don't think I've given any information away with this photo, TFTC
Interesting earthcache. Not done one on this topic before so have a favourite point for the education. Answers sent to CO. Thank-you Cats&Dragons for placing this cache for our enjoyment. Out caching with Will of the Wisp on our “Round the World in 80 Days” trip to celebrate retirement. Signing logs with our names or initials depending on space. Greetings from England, TFTC.
Visited cache site before hitting the road to Taumarunui. Revealed a history previously unknown to me. Gathered the required information, took attached image of Geoson at site and departed. Answers sent to CO. Tftc MattyH from Tassie
Parked close by to enjoy the marine action. Thanks for the short walk and interesting history.
Surprised to see just how long the oil industry has been going in Taranaki. Most informative signs to read, enjoyed learning about this, thank you / TFTE.
We enjoyed walking about doing this one, checking out the foreshore and learning about the historical oil operations in Taranaki - who knew it had been going so long? Got a bit confused about getting the answers (nothing unusual there) but got there in the end and permission from the CO to log.
Thanks for bringing us to this spot to learn about another fascinating part of New Zealand history. Thanks for the cache.

On a way south to the Mega, we had a pit stop here and collected a few key caches in the area, this one included.
Found on a trip to the beach, making the most of the so so weather. Thank you for teaching us so much about this area, I visit often but never took much notice of all of these plaques. TFTC
Found with Trayc.g, logging now as I have my own account. Hoping its ok to log, but I helped gather the required info at the time with my Mum.
Tried to gather the required info in between the heavy showers. My husband works in the oil industry so was very helpful with some of the answers. Answers have been sent to CO. photo is attached. TFTEC and happy Earth Cache weekend!
I have permission from the CO to log this cache as he said that there use to be 2 plaques at WP2. Still a very interesting history lesson learnt, thanks.
Cheers for the cache.
Cheers for the cache.
Great to learn up on some local history. Mini cacher (1) is bored being at home with her leg in a cast, so off for s blustery walk by the port. Between the locations is an active pumpjack, still pumping crude to this day (albeit slowly). TFTC
rustynz tells me I need to catch up with all my logging!
A 3 day weekend of fun with a group of Westies (rustynz, gorby, jag58 & merlot58)
Sorry for the generic logs. Thanks to all the CO for the hides, and the adventure
Answers had been sent by rustynz, I hope they meet requirements

Came to New Plymouth for 3 days of caching with a bunch of Westies (Gorby, merlot58, rustynz and Rebel98).
On our last day we were keen to get at least one earth cache having missed the opportunity at some other very scenic and interesting spots. So we heaeded here to check out the texas tea. Drove and walked to the respective way points to view the spots and information. fascinating how an area develops and becomes known for its nartural features and resources.
Thanks for the cache.

A 3 day weekend had been planned a few months ago by Rebel98, we had cheap airfares organised for New Plymouth and we were supposed to be flying out of Auckland at 6am sharp 2 days ago. But there was deep fog, so no flying! Instead a lovely coach ride was organised for us (myself, Jag50, merlot58, rustynz and Rebel98 too) and a bus load of muggles. Today is our 3rd day in New Plymouth and out last few caches, we fly back to Auckland today.
Thanks for the EC, Cats$Dragons, answers have been sent, and I thought the info was very interesting.

Caching in New Plymouth with a group of Westies, and this was one that was too good to ignore
Loved the beam pump, and whilst at GZ collected the required information, then drove/walked to waypoint 2 which conveniently had a traditional cache nearby - love it when that happens.
Thanks for the history, and information about the oilfields. Answers sent to CO

Decided a couple of weeks ago to come to New Plymouth for Queens Birthday Weekend. The only time I have spent in New Plymouth is for work, so it was about time I spent some time here for pleasure. Found me a Airbnb and planned my caching weekend.
Decided to drive directly up to Piopio this morning and spend the day caching my way back to New Plymouth. Its been a day of Giants, Hobbits and Tunnels and I've had a great time. I haven't been on this road before and it is clearly one of New Zealand's best kept secrets!
Back in New Plymouth and there's time for one more cache. Headed to the first waypoint and gathered up the required info. Must have had my eyes painted on at the second location as couldn't find the right info, however the co has kindly let me log this Earthcache as found. TFTC

Great weather today so had to get out and get caching. I enjoyed the opportunity to learn a bit about the Naki oil industry. Thanks.
I am staying in New Plymouth with my sister on a trip from Australia for a week before heading up to the mega event, so taking the opportunity to grab some caches in the area. Today I was down here where after a dismal start to the day things just kept improving with the weather.
Managed to (hopefully) find the info required and have sent it off. Nice and educational, not that it looks like much happening at the oilfields nowadays! Thanks Cats&Dragons.

Have emailed answers to CO. Thanks for the history lesson, very interesting and a really nice location to visit.
Had a walk around the harbour and could find the oil field information.
Thanks for showing this history about this area!

Down in New Plymouth for the hockey tournament I had several earthcaches on my list and popped out in the early evening to grab this one. I stopped by both spots and grabbed the required information and even managed to grab a pic in the failing light. Emailed answers to the CO. TFTC!
My 7 year old son found this cache without me knowing he was using my phone. He's become addicted to geocaching like his mother. My father worked in the Taranaki oil industry from the early 80s so this cache was a good reminder for me to pass on my knowledge to my kids. TFTC and taking the time to educate others.
Our first earth cache so not sure what we need to do, will search up website. Great idea to get us thinking about what is around us
Interesting earthcache. Stopped here and had lunch whilst dodging the rain. Short walk to a lovely memorial area. Learnt lots. Thanks
Came into town a bit earlier tonight before the April Meet and Greet so I could collect the necessary info on this earth cache. Hopefully I got the right info, only realised when I got home that some of my photos I had taken so I could log this when I got home, were not of the best quality. Thanks for bringing me here, really enojoyed the little area at Location 2. TFTC
