That was a really really good one and our first time in a cave together great spot to but needed some help
Visiting NZ for a few days, then heading off to New Cal aboard Second Sun.We had time for a bit of sightseeing, tried to get to the caves yesterday but they were closed due to work on the bridge. We came back today and had a fantastic tour. If you are anywhere near, you should take the tour! I did not expect so many glowing lights, and did not expect it to be so bright. In one section of the cave I could see our group and the rocks all around just from the glow of hundreds of these tiny creatures.Finding the cache took a little reach, but was pretty quick.
We looked around on the place surrounded by muggles. We had an idea what the hint meant but it wasnt clear. No luck.
Had a half hour to kill until the next tour, so I had plenty of time to search, and even had some help from other members of our group. Clearly found where the hint said it shouldve been, but no sign of the cache today for me
Cache was not where the hint said was. Zayne will put it in the right place from the hint
Auf unserer Reise in den Norden hier gehalten und den Cache gesucht und gefunden. Danke frs Verstecken.
Came to tour the glow worm caves and a cache would have been a bonus. Alas, not today.
TaurusSix and I are in New Zealand for a three weeks holiday. We love New Zealand and have had lots of wonderful experiences here previously. This time we have decided to focus our attention on three destinations for one week each, all in the North Island. The Coromandel Peninsula, Waiheke Island and The Bay of Isles. We are very mindful of not focusing all our attention of the holiday on geocaching, however it will still play an important part. We are deliberately focusing on caches that involve some walking, great views, interesting attractions , history and general points of interest. And this will all happen in between exploring, swimming , walking, doing touristy things and relaxing .

Day 21 - Of our New Zealand trip and our last day here in the beautiful Bay of Isles as well as our last day in general. It is also the first day in five days that it has stopped raining and we have not needed our rain coats - bonus. Today was made up of two halves. In the morning we leisurely looked around Paihia, walked, looked in the shops and had a nice brunch. In the afternoon we headed to Kawakawa and undertook a glow work cave tour - fantastic, as well as checked out the amazing art work and architecture of Hundertwasser a follow on from our day in Whangarei. He really has been a prolific artist for the area. Along the way we collected eight stray geocaches. Bringing our total geocaches for this trip to 160 plus 100 Adventure Labs for a grand total of 260. Not sure when we will get back again New Zealand, we have loved every minute of it.

G’day from Australia! We had a wonderful tour of the caves and saw these amazing glow worms, and had a superb tour guide as well.
A quick find after we pin pointed the location due to the GPS playing up because of a lack of mobile signal.
Unfortunately we forgot to bring a pen so couldn’t sign the logbook. We have a photo of the cache though if proof is required.

Really enjoyed visiting this spot. The caves are definitely worth a visit to see the milkyway galaxy during daylight hours. Found with Reny90
We stopped by here on our way to Kawakawa.
As I approached gz, the tour operator asked if I was interested in the cave tour, but unfortunately $40 each was a little above our budget, so I told him we were just looking for the geocache. He pointed me in the general direction.
A nice easy find thanks to the hint.
I was tempted to leave one of our homemade rattll coins, but as it was empty and the lid was only loosely on, I wondered how secure it was, so decided against it. However, the log books nice and dry and in good condition.
Thanks for putting this cache here. The cliffs on the area are pretty cool.

Very cool, we made a quick dash in - those cliffs were impressive and quite beautiful. Cache was found nice and dry. T4tc
Great little spot to stop, have to come back another day and check out the caves with the kids. Found with Yvettetb
Wow what a great little place, will have to come back another day to explore the Caves. Thanks for bringing me here. TFGC
Visited this morning for the glow worm tour.
We had about 15 minutes before the tour started, so I decided to check if there were any geocaches here and conveniently there was this one.
Found it fairly quickly with hayleyhnz, hannahhnz and hollyhnz.
Really enjoyed the cave tour.
Great location.
Thanks.

I'm not sure that the log from April about the cache being missing is correct.
The cache I found fitted the hint and doesn't look like the replacement cache shown in the photo.

Whilst on our norfland roadie with ABCDF4 popped in to this one and were informed by the office staff it was missing, with the Cos permission we replaced it, about knee high amongst the rocks right side of where bbq table used to be.
Whilst on our northland roadie with EyeSpyBen and signed this one with Cos permission.

Spotted the 2 options on this side road and they were to be the last 2 of the day. Nice and easy here after I spoke to the ticket office, reckon this area could use an Earthcache too?? Hint, hint.
It's the last full day in the area today and mrs and I decided we were going to head out of town and up to Waitangi and Bay of Islands. A also noted that there were some TMGTs to be grabbed in the area and they were to be the focus, the Kaikohe duo were a bit too far off route and so were left for 'another time'. A good day out and saw some great sights and the weather played nicely too, nice one. We started the day at the site of the longest foot bridge in the Southern hemisphere at Whananaki South.
Heading north for Christmas, we're off to Ngunguru for 6 days along the Tutukaka coast and accompanied by our youngest daughter, middle daughter and family, and will meet up with one of our sons and his family too, so a busy time. Had a great time away and ate well, watered well and a bit of fishing and kayaking, awesome weather mostly too in Northland.

Spotted a sign for the glow worm caves and decided to check it out. What an amazing place/tour, highly recommend to anyone! We attempted to find this cache prior to the tour starting but was unable to find it and then was interrupted by a family. After the tour we took the bush walk then decided to look again where we found it at our feet. Placed back where we think it should have been all along.
After pottering around in Kerikeri and kawakawa for the day we decided to check out this area and glad we came. Did a search for this at first before the tour and after making fantail sounds at the fantails, and didn't find it, however after seeing the cave and bushwalk, did another search and came up with the goods right where we were at our feet.
Nice quick find with the geokids whilst waiting for the cave tour to begin. The cave is quite busy today with plenty of Kiwi tourists on the road for the school holidays. Thanks for bringing us here!
Thoroughly enjoyed our visit today. I would say .... a little to the left! TFTC!
Spent the weekend in Piahia visiting the far north. Since we didn't get to see glow worms when we were further south, this was a great stop. Hint made the find nice and quick. SL TNLN TFTC!
Cruising around New Zealand and picking up a few caches when we can.
We were on a tour of the Glow Worm cave - which is so cool! While waiting for the tour to start we searched for this one, coming up empty. We read some of the last logs and realized the cache was missing.
While on the tour, it occurred to us, that we could at least replace the log in a baggie for the next finder. Imagine our surprise, when the tour was over we went back to find a logical place for the replacement and found a jar, with a fresh log in it. Great timing, because we are pretty sure we looked there for a cache before.

Was missing, replacement made. Clue changed and description slightly different.
Found the spot, but no cache. The local folks said someone took it and was supposed to bring it back but didn’t. Maybe the next cacher can replace it. Wish I’d brought a box myself. Great hiding spot!
We stopped to see the glow worm cave, which was wonderful. We looked for this cache while we were waiting for the tour to start but we couldn’t find it. We asked one of the folks in the office, and they led us right to the spot we were looking. No cache found. Hopefully it has just been moved.
Cool hide here, we are waiting to head into the glow worm caves so were happy to see a cache was here to entertain us while we wait! Picked up the cool lego travelbug and will move it on and swapped some swag. Thanks for the cache!

This was an easy find as it was dismantled and filled with water. I have replaced the container and the logbook and dropped two trackable. Tftc
Found it! cache was soaked, but well hidden until we figured out the clue. Hint is out of date
Northland Day 4: Travelled down from Kerikeri, through the beautiful coastline of the Bay of Islands, before ending off in Whangarei. Today’s journey was marked with a bounty of seasides and waterfalls, and with the weather being particularly fine today, there was no excuse to stay in today. Another wholly productive day, with nice haul of caches of all shapes and sizes: a wholly great birthday treat with the family today.
The following is the specific log for each cache:
A quick find after wandering about trying to figure the hint out. Once I entered the cave, the cache was most easily spotted. Signed in the replacement cache and headed onwards. TFTC!

Travelling South we visited the glow worm cave where we were guided through the cave and learned some interesting aspects about the cave inhabitants. This location is definitely worth visiting.

On A road trip with Dee+ME from Tauranga. Have been having a poke around here and there and been taken to some great places, many thanks to all you COs for your placements. Today we start to make our way south again. Was up early to make the most of the day. Came here and custodians informed us that recent big floods had washed the cache away and were happy for us to replace it. We rummaged through our car and emptied our original Tupperware cereal container filled with some swag and log book. We put into hidey hole where hint suggests except picnic table has gone. Happy caching.
On a road trip with McJandals. Will have to visit these caves when we have more time.
Tftc, after a visit in the fantastic cove, we try to find this cache, the gps was everywere, but finally we got it, after little help of our guide!

driving down to Kawiti Cave, i wanted to check out this cave to see if i could send friends and clients there instead to one of the very touristic ones, and yip, highly recommended to visit here to see the glow worms (no worms but glow), really nice and not crowded at all, took me 30 minutes
anyway, being delighted to grab this cache, great size and well hidden

On a short tour of Northland and able to get a few caches at the same time. Tftc.. Unfortunately cave had some maintenance happening so tour a bit shorter.
What a cool experience for our kids. Was our first time geocaching. Just in our 'backyard'. So awesome! Thanks for rhe find!
A quick find whilst waiting for the next tour of the caves to start - which was excellent by the way Thank-you RussellSchool for placing this cache for our enjoyment. Out caching with Will of the Wisp on our “Round the World in 80 Days” trip to celebrate retirement. Signing logs with our names or initials depending on space. Greetings from England, TFTC.

Stopped in today to have another look thru the caves.
While waiting for the tour one of the guides said we should look in the cave for a box, we already knew it was there and the guide said some people found it by accident and told him.
All in good shape.

We very much enjoyed this cave. Most interesting: The brighter they glow, the hungrier they are. We know that situation!
And we liked the idea, that the place must be horribly packed when the people from cruise ships arrive to visit the cave. Must be a nightmare for normal tourists and every day a little jackpot for the people at the cave...
The box was very good to find.
Took the coin.

Found before the cave tour then logbook filled out afterwards. Great spot and the glowworms were on form. TFTC.
We loved visiting these caves! Definitely worth the $20. We were just pulling out when we got some signal to see there was also a cache here. So we turned around and grabbed it before we left. Dropped off two trackables and picked up one thanks for hiding!
In the area so had to come and have a look for the cache and get some more information on the glow worm caves here. Unfortunately, with our canine friend along and a hot sun we decided it wasn't the right time to go for a tour of the caves - hopefully we will get to do this at some point! We did find the cache once we located the right 'cave' - very obvious once found of course, as these things are. Thanks for bringing us here RussellSchool!
Discovered the caves today and grabbed this one.

Finally passing here at a time when the facility was open, so just had to call in to look for this one. Near GZ was a group of muggles and even one in the "cave" so had to wait a little while before searching.
With the good clues, was a quick find and soon on my way. TFTC

We found the cache easily in a very nice spot just before visiting the fascinating glow worm cave. Amazing little beasties! TFTC!
An enjoyable and mercifully cool walk through this amazing and well run cave with an added geocache to collect on the way. Our last trip to a glowworm cave was back at Waitomo before we geocached and my job was to look after Albert the Geohound while my in-laws got to go through. This time I got to go too and I enjoyed it very much. Waitomo is of course, rightly the gold standard for glowworm caves but this has the charm of a family owned business (peek at the name tags of the staff, direct descendants of Ngati Hine chiefs will have this on their tags).
While geowife was buying tickets for the tour I popped in to the cave and quickly made the find. Then it was on to the tour, very lucky just us and one other family and our tour guides were excellent and knowledgeable.
Very worthwhile and well done to the Kawiti family for making their private property available for a geocache to be placed there. Thanks for placing this here, adding a favourite point. Perhaps one day someone will do an earthcache here.

Today we left Whangarei heading for Kaikohe, this was one of the many caches we found on the way.
What a great find this was, went into the office to mention we were only here to look for the cache but the receptionist came out to show us where it was.
A favourite point given. TB left here also.
