No joy here. Track is closed due to storm damage so unable to get to the other geos or the waterfall
Its over 20 years since i was here, and the track has been improved significantly since then. It is a lovely walk up to the waterfall.
Spent several minutes having a good look around all the hint items. Found a likely looking rock at one of them, but couldn't find a cache.

Nice little stop and a quick find. Luckily I managed to replace just before the only people I met on the track appeared on their way out! TFTC!!
Good things there was a place for my muggle wife to sit while I did the important job of fining the cacher. TFTC.
Early start to the walk. Not sure when I was last here, 5 or 20 years ago. Nice easy find to start off with.

On our way home after the most wonderful weekend in Golden Bay celebrating my bday with my handsome RNZ
I had forgotten how beautiful it is up this track, probably 10 years since I last walked it. I enjoyed every second & its an easy walk, achievable for everyone
RNZ is adamant my name is on this log, he always puts mine first then his. I have photographic evidence of said log writing

SJT_NZ and I were enjoying the walk up the Wainui River, we'd just logged this cache and noticed a familiar log, one more corner and bumped into ricardinho.nz & RG1972 heading down. Always nice to catch up but they also provided us with some useful advice for one of the caches ahead and subsequently got a gimme for a nearby cache giving SJT_NZ and I a bit of challenge. This cache was a nice easy find and all in good order. Thanks Sidewaze.
Tregearp and I were scoping out some locations for an Adventure Cache which brought us to the area for our first walk up to the falls. Sadly no coverage, so another fail. A great short walk however and the cache was a quick find. We met ricardinho.nz & RG1972 on their way back down and got a useful nudge for the cache at the falls - which was still a difficult find
Thanks Sidewaze for the cache (which is all in good order).

First on the walk in. We didn’t have too many people around us at the time so it was a quick find. I took the seat while some people passed, then returned it when they left.
We caught up with some fellow cachers later who commented that they saw my name in the log, but not RG72s. I was pretty sure the birthday girl was on there, but I went to check on the way back and there was a young family parked up here that scuppered that plan, so I guess I’ll never be 100% sure. Apologies to the CO.I found this cache a while ago but stopped caching for a while due to the pandemic, and this find was left as a draft on my app.Found while on holiday in Golden Bay.TFTC
Staying locally in Wainui for the weekend, havent been here for years! Perfect spot to rest. TFTC.
Weekend out with wife and the boys
Went for a walk up to the falls.
Was lucky to find this without access to data. It was drizzling one the way up.

One thing that I sometimes kick myself for is failing to scope out an area and save caches offline before venturing into an area with poor cell coverage! Luckily I had looked at the map, so the cache was visible, I just couldn't read any info. I opened the coordinates in Maps.me and managed to find the cache using my caching spidey senses. What a beautiful waterfall!
I disabled my caches during Level 4 lockdown to encourage everyone to do the right thing. Now we’re moving to Level 3 I’m going to leave the decision to search for a cache or not to each individual. Remember you still need to stay in your bubble and a bit of hand sanitiser before and after handling a cache would be appropriate. Keep yourself and others safe.

During our roadtrip through New Zealand I found this cache "Kawakawa (Golden Bay)" from Sidewaze on 1 maart 2020 10:51.
Use your instinct over GPS to find the cache.
Groetjes/Greetings and TFTC from a Dutchman (a long way from home, but home is here the heart is, on the bus).

Found with MrsC on our NZ travels from the UK. A day in Abel Tasman NP. Quick find, thanks.
In Takaka for the weekend with some friends. They hadn’t been to the falls, which is a must do for anyone. And of coarse an excuse for me to get a cache. Things are looking really good up there, last time I was here was just after the big storm a few years ago. TFTC
Wasted a lot of time looking around Kawakawa bushes!
Then read the hint properly and looked at an obvious place with success.
Thanks

Biked from pohara. Gorgeous day. Nice place to rest and let a tour bus load pass. QEF. After the leaves of the kawakawa were used for seasoning by our first man, Gayford, we spotted the right place easily. NINO TFTC
Enjoying a beautiful walk to the Wainui Falls, this was the only cache we found as the first was missing and the last one was too close to cliffs to hunt for with the microcachers in tow. A beautiful walk and stunning falls. We got checked out by a couple of Weka. TFTC
quick find and sign on the way up to the falls ,very enjoyable family walk Thanx4tc
Today is our 3rd day in the Abel Tasman NP after 2 nights at Totaranui. We loved the tramp to the waterfall and are enjoying the beautiful NZ scenery and bird song.
Thank you for the cache.

Heading up to the water fall with three grandchildren and so many other people. Waited for a gap before looking for and finding this one.
It is so awesome to share some of these special places with the grandchildren, we are not doing a lot of geocaching this trip, just enough to keep the streak going.
Thanks for placing the cache and thank you for the smiley. Sorry for the late log - missed logging this one

GPS batteries ran out and plans to grab the three caches along the falls track went up in smoke. Walked up track anyway and while daughter having a rest noticed a well trampled area behind seat so had a look and there was the cache. Quick sign and replace before anyone else came along. No such luck at the falls as about 20 people in the vicinity. Able to claim 794m towards the DGSc distance challenge. Thanks for the cache.
On our trip thru NZ we visit a lot of places and see many spectacular locations.

After parking up the caravan at tarakohe harbour and having a bit of lunch...it was time to do a little exploring. But note to all the cachers out there....don’t come caching at a spot like this between Xmas and New Years at 1 in the afternoon. Was chockablock full of muggles and so the only cache I go on this track was this one. Still got muggled but managed to bluff my way out of a full explanation. TFTC sidewaze
This was a quick find for us thanks to the good description of the kawakawa - it is not always easy to figure out for a non-kiwi traveling off-line what to look for when it comes to endemic plants tftc
Didn't realize there might be some geocaches. Had only my smartphone with me. My Garmin was at the carpark. When the sign of this cache went off, I looked around and found rhe cache. Completely wet, so I put a new plastic bag and dry paper in it.

Took awhile to find! Beautiful hike and spectacular views. Log was wet so didn’t sign. Thanks!
Catching up with my logs. Did find this while going for the falls with our friends who came over from France. This was an easy find for us.
Found the cache thanks to mumandme who we met at the waterfalls. Our GPS wasnt working at all and hadnt loaded the info and hint. Would never have found it! Lovely place! TFTC

With absolutely no phone reception where we were staying nearby, I had no way to download caches so decided to try my luck for a cache on this track, by looking in "likely" hides. First place I looked, there this one was. On to the waterfall which was stunning after recent rain. Tftc!
I found this cache together with my partner Pityulino during our holiday in New Zealand. Today we visited the Wainui Falls, bathed in the fresh water of the steam and also found some caches on the way. This was one of them. We found the cache in good condition. TFTC!

This one was on the way and I just had to stop and sign it off.
Cheers for the cache.

Found with NZDi. After spending the past month or so stuck at home preparing our house for sale, the looming long weekend called for something special. So three nights were booked in a motel in one of our favourite places... Pohara and early on Friday morning we headed across the hills (firstly the Whangamoas and then the Takaka Hill). We didn't get off to a great start being held up slightly with a flat battery... perhaps I should have taken heed of what the AA man said a few weeks ago when he did a call-out to my address for a similar fault and bought a new one. Fortunately I have become self-sufficient in the flat battery rectification stakes and this was rapidly rectified. Knowing that we were going to a few out of the way places on our weekend endeavours and note wanting a similar experience, I purchased a new battery as we went through Nelson (I couldn't do it in Blenheim because we left too early).
The plan for the weekend was to do some caching in the Golden Bay area on Friday and Saturday, celebrate our 34th wedding anniversary on Sunday with a little more caching but some more traditional anniversary activities, and then do some more caching on the way home. Today's mission was to collect some of the caches in the Canaan Downs area at the top of the Takaka Hill.
Our caching around Canaan Downs was cut short when we discovered we had a flat tyre and decided we needed to get it fixed before everything shut up shop for the long weekend. This gave us some spare time in the evening before darkness set in to find a few more caches a bit closer to Pohara where we were staying. The last time we did a caching visit in this area, the track to Wainui Falls was closed for maintenance, so we took the opportunity of an open track to get the caches up here. This was our second find of the evening and was a QEF.

Its a long weekend so The Seagnoid, Zara and I are off for an adventure to Golden Bay. The Seagnoid is navigator and Zara and I pair up getting us from A to B??
OK time for a walk to the Falls. Left Zara standing guard. Lots of people along this track but still managed to snag and tag this one. Cheers. Onward to the Falls.

Another good excuse to go for a walk, so we left Zara to mind our kit and headed down the track.man this place is busy today! Loads of cars at the carpark, and heaps of people on the track. An easy find, and I know my kawakawa.

Hello from Juneau, Alaska. Windy day, a good choice to find the trail to Wainui Falls. Quick find. #3802
TFTC over in the bay with rellies from Darwin. Waterfall is full on after the big storm yesterday, Wonderful
We weren't able to find this cache... But we saw a weka nearby. We tried to ask it, if it knew where it was.. But it wouldn't answer! Guess it is hidding it...
This weekend us capperz are over the hill to Golden Bay and celebrating. It's our wedding anniversary on Friday followed by my 50th birthday on the Saturday. So we looked around for a decent place to go for the weekend and the potential of this beautiful area won out (this time). Only grabbed the one cache on the Friday night (there was much drizzly rain and poor visibility) trip over the hill(s) so there was much anticipation for what was next. Both the Saturday of my half-century milestone and the Sunday were bathed in golden sunshine and the temperature was perfect; neither too hot nor too cold.
Day 2 and a few in and around the region before we head back over the hill again. I had a plan which required me to get a sample of sand from Wainui and would be rude not to go look for the caches to the waterfall too.
Nice and easy here and replaced as found

our first cache in new zealand. we like really liked the place and made a small break on our way to the falls. tftc from germany.
Nice day out with grandchildren so a quick hike up to show them the falls and show the oldest some caches to. He enjoyed watching Poppa finding this caches. Quick sign off and away we went to the next one. Cheers.
Many times I have taken people to this magic place. Today it was for a cache but that didn't take any of the magic away, and memories. Thank you Sidewaze
Last time here we didn't have time to walk to the falls and pick up the last few caches on the track. Today it was a priority to do so. This is the first time on the track since being restored after the big storm a few years ago.
Thank you Sidewaze.
