Today’s adventures saw me collecting smiles around Coombs and Denman Prospect on a gloriously sunny ️ winter’s day after all the rain of late.

All logs in good condition unless otherwise noted.

Thanks to COs for placing and maintaining these caches

I agree. They are a huge collection of poplars. A nice easy find! TNLNSL.
Thanks Tankengine.

Found. Very cool cache tftc

06-Oct-20
Thought I’d pick up this series quickly while the GeoKid was swimming laps at Stromlo. A straightforward find, thanks. Amazed at how boggy the road was after only a little rain - my shoes sunk into the mud by an inch every step, so ended up walking in the wet grass instead. But great fun!

08-Jun-20
I have driven past the turnoff for this walk hundreds of times. Today, I had a reason to stop and go for a walk. Thanks tankengine for showing me yet another quiet spot in Canberra.

29-Mar-20
Very often I manage to find a TE cache on a Sunday, and today was no exception. And a very charming cache for my 800th find. And such charm! A charming location, with the poplar trees, providing lovely shade, and the gently flowing creek. One particular charm very much delighted me, and was a must have. I did of course ensure that all compartments enclosed a treasure on my return of the container.

A treasure of a cache! A little unloved for a year, but I hope will charm other visitors soon. Found on a bit of a loop ride from home to Barrer hill, to the Coppins, back to Arboretum and home. TFTC TankEngine a favourite for the loveliness of it (excepting for the spider web bits..... bleeeurrrghhh!)

24-Mar-19
Out for a pleasant afternoon stroll in search of my daily find and another TE cache ticked off the list. Only another 600 or so to go to get the complete set. TFTC

22-Mar-19
Thought I'd take a detour on the way to work to pick up this cache. A really nice walk to pick up the spirits Lucky me - found myself a pathtag too! Thanks for the cache Tankengine!

19-Mar-19
Broken container replaced, new logsheet added, old logsheet attached. Good to go!

16-Mar-19
We went out for an afternoon mth meander along the quieter parts of the molonglo, and I had my eye on this cache and the butters bridge caches to pick up along the way.

Unfortunately, this cache appears to have come off second best in a bullfight with the paddocks occupants.

Still, it’s a great part of Canberra to explore, and an enjoyable ride.

Unfortunately my phone ran out of power 200 metres from the first butters bridge cache - oh well, I’ll just have to go for another ride out there.

Thanks for the cache Tankengine

31-May-18
Very unique container, cool.

I was devastated when Angel27 told me that the series will be gone by the end of the week! Horror!
I was overseas when the came out looking forward to do them ever since. Even though we have been back some weeks now I had left them as they are the perfect opportunity to go nearby with the dog and the entire family. So I was waiting for the right opportunity to come here for a nicely planned dayhike or two. (Not realizing that their days were ending of course).

So since this is final opportunity to take on the HMAS series before it's archived I am making a late effort now.
This is the second day effort, this time an early start, important as I was taking on the northern side today.

Found this on at 09:28

TFTC Smittengranny and Cankid, shame that they will be archived.

Out and about with Happy Uke again for a big weekend of caching. In Canberra with our sights targeting the HMAS series before it vanishes over the horizon.

Thanks!

20-May-18
Sorry for the generic log but Finalf29 and I found seventy two for the weekend. We came down to Canberra to finish the HMAS series before it gets archived at the end of the month. We found the last HMAS puzzle as the sun set on Sunday afternoon. We were very tired after walking goodness how many kilometres, but had a fantastic weekend and enjoyed every minute of it. Thanks to all the CO's for your caches, but a HUGE thanks to Finalf29 for joining me in this crazy game... you are the best walking buddy a person can ask for!

Great container

14-May-18
Having picked up my targeted HMAS caches, I stopped to look for this one on the return trip. It was pretty chilly once the sun went into hiding, but the cache was found quickly and I continued on back to the geo-ute.

Day 2 of as many days as it takes to clear the HMAS series before it disappears....and picking up anything else in between. This is one of the best little caching containers I've seen for a while. Reminds me of the TB hotels where they're separated into coming and going sections (I know what I mean).

Going to do this series with Eldritch97 before it disappears. It's been on my to do lost for ages...TFTF. really nice cache. A fav from me.

13-Apr-18
Found at 0804 while on a bike ride to chase down the HMAS series. Well, it wasn't in the first place I looked, but thankfully also wasn't in the place I was dreading. A bit bigger than the Tankengine hides I've been used to as well.

I liked the container, but wasn't carrying anything suitable to add to fill any of the empty slots, so all I could do was sign the log and move on.

This find moved me from Uranus to Neptune in the Planetary Pursuit souvenirs, so [feel free to add your own childish joke using the word 'Uranus' here].

Thanks Tankengine.

Bonus cache on the HMAS trail. Signed as OAC.

18-Mar-18
Headed out with our Outdoor Adventure Church (OAC) group for a leisurely stroll and a bit of caching along the way. Logged as OAC for ease...but nibletricecakes, b0tmun, Lovetherabbitohs, death Killer, MyNameJeff1 and JDogmonkey were all present.

All caches were easily found despite the dust storm that had just blown through. Made sure no caches blew away....ok one lid escaped us but it was successfully retrieved.

18-Mar-18
A VERY hot VERY windy day to be out of the trail with OAC and our kiddlywinks. Will still try and get a few before we bail. Tftc. Signed at OAC

16 of 30 today

With the view to collect as many HMAS caches as I could, I couldn't resist the extra few km to ride over and collect this. First time It must have been slightly downstream, and I headed there. Checked co-ords again and oh.. right..

Cache was quickly found, and I'm impressed with the cache. Mini tackle box?

TFTC TE!

Found at 9:26:00 AM

I'm sure you get a lot of copy/paste logs on this cache, so I took the time to write one just for this. Cache was found where I expected it to be. It was very stinky here today!!

I went out with jazzy3008 after work to do a bit of caching. We decided to do the start of the HMAS series. As we were having to go past this one anyway, I decided to take a look. It didn't take me very long to have it in my hands...

I went for a nice walk with my parents and dogs to add to my finds today. We saw lots of cows and roos and were able to get quite close to a flock of black cockatoos. As well as all the caches we found a small turtle shell with some ants clearing out the last little bits that they could scavenge. The sun was a bit warm and my younger dog was tiring out so we headed back a little earlier than planned, taking a short cut by wiggling under a fence while the cows watched curiously. Overall, a wonderful way to spend an afternoon.

20-Aug-17
Took the geokids and my pile of TB's that I am about to offload on the HMAS series. Beautiful day for it and we did about 25 caches

17-Jul-17
I travelled down to the ACT for a weekend of hard caching, as I plan to find my 8000th cache in two weeks. I still had about 300 to go. Just my luck that the temperature forecast was to drop to -7. It was at negative 4 when I started my caching trek this morning.
After walking 30km, under 9 hours I had 100 more cache finds to my tally.
Thanks for the cache!Cool

24-Jun-17
With dty73 we came in to the area this morning to see how many more of the HMAS series we could complete from this side, so was good to find something else as well along the way. Nice little section here along the creek complete with the odd bits of oxidising oddities along the trickling water course and the very tall poplars. After 40 caches found waking today it was two very weary walkers that passed back along this spot later in the afternoon! Thanks for the cache Tankengine!

9:05am quick, easy find. Not quite what I expected for a Tankengine hide. Cute creek, except for the rubbish and cow pats. But ice to see the bog pipe up close. Tftc Tankengine!!!

Found while doing the HMAS series with Maris4. Beautiful little spot!
Got the geo-Lagotto into the creek to start washing off the cow crap she just rolled in. Thanks

We walked this part of HMAS serie today and stopped at this cache as well. I love the container Smile

There were few huge black cows resting in the shade of nearby trees.

I was out cycling my way through the HMAS series today and couldn't resist the extra cache. I approached it with some trepidation as I haven't quite gotten the knack of TankEngine's clever hiding style. It took me a solid ten minutes to locate, which included unearthing two very unfriendly looking spiders!

All the compartments were full so I exchanged one of my dinosaurs for a piece of loot. It took quite a bit of effort to find one that would fit, and it seems quite uncomfortable - hopefully someone comes along to rescue it soon!

Top cache with an excellent container

I approached this cache with a sense of foreboding, noticing the damage to the barrier from floodwaters, but the cache was intact.
What a marvellous cache container! Thank you Tankengine for this cache.

Nice fine, not too cold, afternoon, with a spare couple of hours between work and a sewing evening in the next suburb ... and rain forecast for the rest of the week - decided I might have to go for a bit of a walk somewhere nice and/or interesting for my daily cache ... hmmm ... maybe I should come down here and grab a few HMAS ones today, because I think it could be fairly horrid out here in the rain later this week ... so I came, walked, found 7 caches before it started to get cold and dark - HMAS #2 - 7 (found #1 a couple weeks ago) and one other cache that was in among them ... and it was both really nice and quite interesting out here - just what I needed Smile
The first bit was quite an interesting experience - the herd of cows that I walked past/through as I walked along the track to the first cache (HMAS #2) decided to follow me to the cache, stand on the road just above me and watch me do my thing, then they followed me to HMAS #3 and surrounded me and watched while I did my thing there! ... and half of them investigated GZ at #2 before they walked over to join the other half that were right behind me as I walked over to #3 ... but for some odd reason they didn't follow me any further (hung around near that second cache for a while, then wandered down into the paddock) ... so I now have a whole pile of photos of cows (including some selfies - lol) and then quite a few of trees and sky and the Sunset and stuff - lol
TFTC - this was my third find, had not realised this wasn't a HMAS one until I was headed for it (was just working my way along the line of green dots on the phone app Smile should have known that if I find more than 5 caches in a day one will be a Tankengine one - lol
Looked in a likely spot, didn't notice anything and did what I didnt need to before not finding it where the "cacher trail" went (guess it was just a cow trail? ... or everyone else does the same thing - lol) went back and found it within arms length of the first p,ace I had looked - lol
Interesting container ... glad I had some swaps that fitted - was one empty hole (was a tiny rubber shrimp in with the pencil that could have belonged there, but I put that in with the other one and filled the hole with something else (beads on elastic - think it might have been a doll bracelet or a hair thingy) then I took the 2 wooden flower beads (because they were the same as 3 I got from another cache a couple months back so now I have enough to use for a necklace Smile and i left a dinosaur eraser and a bird eraser in their places.
There were a few strange items caught against the railing - amazing some of the stuff that gets washed down creeks ...

18-Aug-16
Thanks TE for your spot again. GZ was skipping around which made it tricky, but figured out likely hide quickly enough. Love the container and the little bit up upstream knowledge next time I cross the weir lower down! TFTC

16-Aug-16
It was a quiet night at home and all the children were in bed. I'd had this one in mind for a little while. SO off I went. It was not too cold when I left home, but a lot cooler when I got to the gz. I think there was frost on the ground when I returned.
A leisurely stroll along the dirt road. Looking at the cows and farm type wots and nots that were scattered around along the way. A quick inspection of the sewer viaduct. (pong) and then down to the creek.
A few minutes looking and then the cache was in had. I have seen one of these containers before. Lots of compartments! very cool.
TS. Thanks for the walk and the fun cache.

I'll be back soon to get the one down by the river.

06-Aug-16
We loved this one - what a great container! Took us a while to find something in our swag bag that would fit in one of the compartments, but finally found a bottle of fairy dust. Thanks TE! Smile

Our current visit to Australia had been in the planning for over a year with the very significant help and advice from friends who live in Melbourne. The original plan was for a 2 month visit, but as things progressed we just couldn't help extending our trip to the full 90 days allowed on our visas - after all it's a big country and so much to see and do, especially with our favourite pastimes being birding, hiking and of course geocaching! Our journey started with our arrival in Perth before travelling on to Adelaide. We then continued on to Kangaroo Island, before heading to Melbourne via Goolwa, Strathalbyn, Coorong, Mount Gambier, Cape Bridgewater, the Grampians National Park, Port Campbell, Cape Otway and Lorne. The second leg of our journey was a fabulous 9 days in Tasmania. Having returned to Melbourne we then set off on the third leg of our journey, which is to Sydney via Wilson’s Promontory, Lakes Entrance, Mallacoota, Pambula Beach, Thredbo, Canberra (where we are at present) and Fitzroy Falls. We then travel on to the Gold Coast and the nearby mountainous birding hotspots before flying from Brisbane to Cairns for a week in the area. We then fly to Alice Springs for a week on the circuit to and from Kings Canyon and Ayers Rock before flying to Darwin from where we will spend the last two weeks of our holiday making our way to Broome before flying back to Perth, from where we connect with the flight all the way back home to Zimbabwe via South Africa. We already know we can't wait to return!

A nice quick find at Ground Zero while undertaking the HMAS series. Thanks so much for the cache.

Before the powertrail, there was this one, and a lovely little spot it is in as well. I spotted it quite secure in its hidey hole, but a handy nearby all-natural tool helped extract it. An interesting container, where do you dig up all these weird and wonderful containers?

TNLN - Thanks Tankengine!

Having spent the past few days in the alpine area I returned to Canberra to grab a few caches. This series was my target and under clear skies today I set off on the bike to bag a plethora caches.
Starting down near the RSPCA I was nerved to find pockets of smoke coming from various parts the series…. It appears hazard reduction season is well underway.Surprised

After 8hrs in the saddle I had found all the caches in the area. This was an interesting container.
Thanks Smile

Came past here as I was doing the HMAS trail. What an awesome little container! Nice scenic spot here too. I actually ended up looping around doing 47 HMAS caches and came back to the path via the top gate here on the way home. TFTC!

ANZAC weekend caching with the Geokid Juculu TFTC Tankengine a fav point from me.

09-Apr-16
Having tried in vain to find this one with IamCoust last week, only to discover it had just been disabled, I didn't want to waste any time popping out to find the new version. A nice short walk from the road under the gaze of some very attentive bovines brought me to GZ. Here I spent 10 minutes or so looking and was even contemplating giving up until I tried something a bit different and realised I had been barking up the wrong tree. Great container! TFTC Smile

Our 21st find in Canberra..Doing as many of the HMAS caches as possible today and, even though this wasn't one, this is number 4.....thanks for bringing us here and TFTC! Woo! FTF the new log haha

03-Apr-16
Ha - it might have been worth checking the logs for this one before spending 15 or 20 minutes looking for it. It had been disabled the day before and our GPSrs were last updated before the run of DNFs. Oh well. This is easy enough to revisit.

03-Apr-16
Positive we had the right spot quick smart....if only we had checked the logs. 20 mins back and forth, up and over, only to discover it wasn't there. Have the coords now, maybe quick return trip is on the cards
