Stopped to grab the multi and soon had all the answers in hand for the final co-ords. Had to hang around for a while until some muggles had read all the headstones and headed off again. Luckily the find was made before the next lot arrived. tftc
We don't usually bother about multis when there are plenty of traditional caches around but thought this looked a nice quiet area for a wander. Fairly quick find - tftc
Definitely one of those 'only because of geocaching' locations for sure.
For a rural cemetery such as this, I was surprised at the expansive grounds - perhaps that was a reflection of the time when Collingwood was touted as a potential capital of NZ!
Needless to say, I had the place to myself - so to speak. I do like looking at these headstones and imagining the life stories of the people they commemorate. There are certainly some hard early settler stories here I'm sure.
Numbers grabbed and final coordinates worked out then off to the GZ for a quick find.
Worth a visit for sure.

We were here in the morning, reading the headstones and wondering about them. Then in the afternoon sun my 6 year old and I did a bicycle geocache tour. We searched all over the place for this one, (in really tricky places), decided to give up, turned around and spotted it. I make it too hard sometimes. Thanks.
Found with NZDi. After spending the past month or so stuck at home preparing our house for sale, the looming long weekend called for something special. So three nights were booked in a motel in one of our favourite places... Pohara, and early on Friday morning we headed across the hills (firstly the Whangamoas and then the Takaka Hill). We didn't get off to a great start being held up slightly with a flat battery... perhaps I should have taken heed of what the AA man said a few weeks ago when he did a call-out to my address for a similar fault and bought a new one. Fortunately I have become self-sufficient in the flat battery rectification stakes and this was rapidly rectified. Knowing that we were going to a few out of the way places on our weekend endeavours and not wanting a similar experience, I purchased a new battery as we went through Nelson (I couldn't do it in Blenheim because we left too early).
The plan for the weekend was to do some caching in the Golden Bay area on Friday and Saturday, celebrate our 34th wedding anniversary on Sunday with a little more caching but some more traditional anniversary activities, and then do some more caching on the way home.
Friday's mission was to collect some of the caches in the Canaan Downs area at the top of the Takaka Hill, but that was cut short and we ended up doing some Wainui caches that evening. Saturday's mission is to start at Wainui, head out to Separation Point, carry on to Totaranui, then return to Wainui over the Gibbs Hill Track, it turned out to be a nine and a half hour day on the track and we still had time for a walk along the beach in the evening. Sunday's mission was to attempt to complete Milnthorpe Park then head into Collingwood for an Anniversary lunch and some more caches.
Today's mission was to grab a few local caches then head back across the hill picking up random caches as they popped up. This was one that I tried last night but the batteries in my GPS went flat before I got to GZ. I checked my numbers once we got back to the motel and discovered I had made a mistake with Maud so corrected that and had a good set of coordinates that matched the checksum. All this made for a QEF this morning and I see someone else was here yesterday. This wasn't the first cache they had beat me to this weekend.

Staying at Pohara for a few days; slow to start today because of wet weather.
I was aware for this Cemetery because of a puzzle cache about the area; I enjoy Multis at Cemeteries and this was particularly good because the WPs for the graves were given - one can often wander for ages & miss the obvious.
Amazing specimen at GZ !!
Thanks for the cache, Sidewaze.

With time to fill in today, I found myself looking around this cemetery in more detail than I usually would. So much history and so much tragedy. I can not imagine how some people coped with so much loss of young ones. The find took way longer than it should have - I thought I had searched the obvious places well, so extended my search into some less obvious places. I should have just slowed down and searched the first place more carefully. A magnificent specimen at GZ. Thanks Sidewaze for bringing me here, it really was worth visiting. A favourite from me
We had done a previous multi starting at this cemetery so knew it was an interesting place to visit. Called in this morning to do this one. Wandered around the cemetery and collected the required information. Unfortunately we misread one of the questions and spent some time searching in the wrong place. Once we realised our mistake we moved to the correct GZ. Having read some of the previous logs we were expecting that the find might still take a while, but one of us found the cache quite quickly. Thanks.
All settled into our Motel so time to do a little cruise around starting to collect all the unfound caches. Worked out the co-ordinates and we were soon at GZ to grab the cache. Took a little longer than it should have but was found and signed. TFTC
We had done a previous cache here some time ago and had just come on a drive down here cause I liked the the history here so was plkeased to find a cache we hadn't waiting for us to find did the required working out and soon found ourselves at the ascibed GZ - it did however take us a few minutes of futile hunting till Stretch0 came up with the "got it " moment - signed log and replaced thanks for an interesting cache in this beautiful spot
We came here 8 years ago to do a multi and it's great to be back. Such a stunning place for so many reasons. TFTC
On Wed 7th the brand new Oregon 700 hiccuped and lost all cache details from the Takaka PQ. Still showed icons with cache names- but no details. But luckily I had previously written down the questions so off we went for a stroll along the Pohara walkway during a lull in the torrential Takaka rain.
Came up with final coords in a very likely place, but a lot of possible places where a cache could be hidden and that elusive box wasn't where we searched. All of them dripping wet. Watched over as we searched by a bird sitting on her nest, so shh!
A scenic spot and one we wouldn't have known about if it were't for this cache - thank you for showing it to us Sidewaze. Thrilled to see the Langfords who arrived in Wellington on the Aurora in 1840 before coming to Clifton - Mrs D originally hails from around the Petone area.

Heading out for a bit of a drive with our friends and we stopped by a few spots: a local gallery, Tata Beach, Wainui and a few other spots.
Stopped by hear to have a look at the full estuary and noticed this multi found the local bodies and made the calcs and sent all seven cachelets into the foliage to score a cache. Nice.
Thanks for the cache Sidewaze.

TFTC - found it with TheWanglers on a pleasant jaunt around the bays.
Love this spot!
Love this spot!
This was our last cache after a successful day further afield. I was most impressed by the massive macrocarpas surrounding this gathering place of the pioneers. After compiling the coords we were impressed once more, then made the find. Thank you Sidewaze
This was our last cache for the day after another enjoyable trip to the Bay. In no time at all we had the required numbers but finding the cache at GZ proved more elusive. Eventually Hazedarus got his hands on it in a place we thought we had both already looked since it was a logical area.
Thank you Sidewaze.
Thank you Sidewaze.
Headed out to play a round of golf at Clifton, but had to wait until a ladies tornament ended. So headed down the picnic area for a snack and a quick multi. Tftc
I always enjoy visiting this area of Takaka. This morning was no exception. No problems working out where to look or finding the cache. Cheers and TFTC
Good spot for a cemetery, but also a good spot for this kind of cache. Thanks Sidewaze.
A nice wee multi, although the cache took a wee while to find, as although we looked in the correct location straightaway, we missed seeing the cache. TFTC
I really liked this multi because i solved it and it was great to be shown some of the history and how hard it must have been in those days. Very sad for those that have lost family member so young.Cheers.
In the area for a few days, enjoying the wonderful scenery and finding some caches along the way.
Loved the hiding spot for the cache.
Many thanks for the cache Sidewaze.

Maddy's find. We explored this area yesterday and expressed that it would make a good hiding place for a cache. Went home and worked out clues as phone went flat yesterday. Came back today and found we were on the spot yesterday.
Really enjoyed hunting down the clues. A speedy, fab, fun find with Sprocket Cole.
Thoroughly enjoyed doing this one with a muggle friend, as he did as well. Never would have gone here if not for caching. TFTC
On a geocaching holiday with tmann421. Exploring the area, lots of amazing places, views and caches. Thanks to all the CO's for making this such a memorable holiday.
Really enjoyed this multi and the shade of the trees on this very hot day.

It's been many years since we had been to Golden Bay, and a long weekend seemed an ideal time to reacquaint ourselves with the area (and find a few caches as well ).
Unusual to have an old cemetery by the sea as mostly they seem to be on a hill. We soon found the information and didn't take long to find the cache - in a spot that I had already marvelled at. A nicely constructed multi in an interesting area. TFTC.

#8448. An interesting spot for a cemetery (in golfing parlance I suppose it is a "links" cemetery). We enjoyed exploring it a bit, and found the final without too much trouble. TFTC.
Got all the required numbers without any issues and a quick find. Enjoyed the visit here, a very serene location.

This was a lucky find today as the rechargeable batteries no longer seem to be holding their charge and died [:(!]. Fortunately I had collected all the required info and imputed the new co-ordinates and had a quick look at the compass before the screen went blank. Cache was found and signed but I think this was perhaps by chance and lots of exploring rather than 'nailing' it with my great skill!!! Wonderful spot to wander around and get a feel for a little bit of the early history of this area.
Fun one to do but 4 of us searched for half an hour and couldn't find it. Pretty sure we had the coordinates right. Will try again another time.
Thoughts of caching went out the window within minutes of me walking into the cemetery when i came across the graves of my great grandparents. I remember my grandmother talking about them when i was a kid and knew they must be buried somewhere in the bay but that's all. When we finally remembered why we were here in the first place we soon had the final coordinates which brought us back to within 5 meters of them again. A fun cache which deserves a favourite for allowing to be piece together a little more knowledge of my family TFTC

Came here for a picnic lunch today in beautiful weather, what a lovely peaceful spot. Gathered the required information before lunch, worked out the final coordinates during lunch and went for a short stroll with sandwich in hand for a quick find in the first place checked. Signed log, thanks for an interesting and enjoyable cache.
On holidays visiting family and doing some caches. Family have lived here for 7 years and did not know about GC. amazed about the whole thing. TFTC.
We do like a nice little multi and we love old cemeteries so this was certainly a cache for us. A fab place to go, especially after a king tide. Took us a little while but eventually we found it. Thanks for the cache.oops almost forgot, this gets a favourite from us.
Had a very pleasant stroll to GZ and around the cemetery, what a magic location! Quick solve, TFTC, #6074
Found during our 2 month tour of Nelson/Marlborough. A beautiful spot and an enormous tree. Thanks for bringing us here...definitely a place we would not have known about if it were not for geocaching. TFTC
Called by this morning with TataB. Enjoyed the multi and then met up with a Frenchman and his son who had just been kayaking on the inlet. Interesting chap. Ms M got to practice her francais, un peu.
Pity the CO hadn't published this cache one a day earlier. Then she would have had two golfers fighting over the FTF on the very next day.

I can remember doing another multi here quite some time ago and it was very nice to revisit for another one. No trouble with the waypoints or information but a transposed digit sent me off in the wrong direction until I realised that I was going to get wet feet going that way. Corrected my error and saw a much more sensible final location. Took a bit of a search to find the cache but it was all good in the end. TFTC, Biggles.
I always enjoy wandering round old cemeteries and always take the time to do that instead of just rushing in and getting the cache and off again. Beautiful day for that today. Found WPT2 very sad - some families get more than their share of grief. Thanks for bringing me here Sidewaze. TFTC #5141
Nice to return for another cache here. Liked the simplicity too.....don't really enjoy searching the whole grave yard for the right info. Tree is a beauty too. Thanks Sidwaze for this.
While reading through the forums I happened to see mention of how one adds waypoints on the groundspeak app, so with that new knowledge I decided it was time to hunt for this multi ..
Quick find once I was at GZ, and cache is in good condition .. Thanks for the fun

Nice quick find after previously failing another multi that started here. TFTC (1040)
Mrs S did the research while the driver had a cuppa. Always interesting as well as sad to visit older cemeteries but great that they are increasingly well maintained. A very friendly fantail was distracting her at GZ (she has the photo to prove it) when SoBad arrived to claim the find.
Thanks
Thanks
FTF. At last weeks Barbie at the Broads the CO was sounding just a little bit disappointed that her new Bay placements hadn't been found yet. When Plan A fell through we thought we better show them some love. I always enjoy a good cemetery multi and this one certainly had some good history. WP2 was just a bit too sad for me - a whole family - oh no. Youngest daughter did the number recording and the final gz looked pretty likely. A short search and Dad turned up the prize. Thanks Sidewaze for placing this cache.

Solved the puzzle, and found an impressive specimen at the general GZ area, but no luck actually spotting it
