due to an inability to clear the area around the cache to make it safe with gaining too much interest from council and nearly gaining fines, i'm archiving this cache
only plastic bag and lid left and wet log located in the middle of some nasty scotch thistles
Found it easy but there was only a lid and opened bag. Log was soaked so couldn't sign. Put a new zip bag and 2 toys but needs maintenance.
For the record the song in my head - "Goanna - Solid Rock"
I came up to Maitland today to go the caravan and camping show. After getting bogged in the van twice within the past 12 months and both times being in situations where I was far from help and without reception I figured it was time to find something that could help me out. I do the majority of my caching alone so if I get bogged it's not as though I've got anyone who can help me out, especially out in the middle of a national park... I found a cool product called "Bog Out" which seemed to suit my needs and as luck would have it the guy selling the things had a stall at the show. So I decided to come up to ask him some questions and hopefully purchase one (which I did). It's always a nice sweetener also when you know you can grab some caches from a new area!!
I parked in a nearby side street, not sure what I would find in this area. On google earth it just looks like paddocks and I was worried about how I would get to the cache. I was surprised to find a play ground and great field area for playing games on. I noticed a man playing with his kids in the playground so I waled straight to the water and then all the way around the edge, in an attempt to not take a beeline straight to the cache. By the time I got around to the GZ I spotted the hide straight away. In fact you couldn't call it a hide because it was in plain sight.
I took the few steps into the scrub and started signing the log. Just As I was doing so a local boy decided to ride his quad bike around the field and came straight past me twice. I'm guessing as he is from one of the overlooking properties he probably knows about the cache. I was waiting for him to say something but he didn't. There was no point trying to hide here because there just wasn't a spot to do so. I finished signing my name then I closed the cache up. I then put the cache around the back side of the tree so that it didn't stand out as much. I suggest covering it with something here so that it isn't so obvious and wont get muggled.
TFTC cheers

Reading previous logs now it would suggest this one was hidden a bit better previously. The tree has been snapped, I'm guessing during the recent storms, and that might be why the cache is out in the open???
That was an nice easy find, the night sky is is pretty this far away from town.
Is it a tree or a bush?? Found it anyway. A young man on a motorbike rode straight past us, and looked straight at me, whilst at the cache, so I hope he does not come back and disturb things. TFTC 798
Quick find. Cache was open when I found it. Have re packed to ensure it closes. TFTC TNLN
Tftc!
Nice easy one with a good walk and view. Too many magpies for my liking today.

An easy find at the end of a pleasant walk along the river. Its a good hide being there in your face but only a cacher would bother checking what is under the shade cloth.

The pencil was broken and a needs a pen or new pencil other wise this is a great kid friendly find. We didn't get to add our name to list.
I found this cache quickly. It is standing out on a branch, covered with a scrap of shade cloth! But in a totally uninteresting and uninspired location. The chances of 'cachers using it as a trackables transfer station is negligible. TNLNSL
A very quick find with sesblocker. Signed the log and applied some more camo as it was in plain sight when we found it. TFTC!
We are back after a bit of a break and this was our first cache. Tiny taters had no trouble except for the freezing winds.
Found during a late afternoon bike ride and assault on a few East Maitland caches with the geo-crew. There were a few folk at the park but they payed little attention to us as we peddled over to GZ. The cache was quickly located and I signed the old wet log without realising there was also a newer dry version. Many thanks ryanandadam
Nice hide. Great spot, haven't been down here in a few years though. Thanks for giving me a reason!
I never knew about this delightful park and water area. Thanks for this cache and showing us this delightful place.
In Town from Moree and geowife had since business to do so geobaby and I walked around and found a couple of caches. Very nice place TFTC
Don't park at Glenayre Close if you don't want a bushwalk.
Park at Rosebrook Row.
Park at Rosebrook Row.
i replaced the wet log with a new one and placed a drainage system to keep it from getting wet again
Another good cache found on a trip to Maitland on 26th/27th.
The log was wet but I see that it has already been replaced - good work ryanandadam.
Thanks for the cache.

Enjoyed a nice little walk over to GZ this morning on a caching day in and around Maitland, and once at GZ, it didn't take long to find the cache. Just finished replacing it when the rain started up again. With a few more caches on the list I was hoping it wouldn't last.
Gratias ryanandadam.

Cache was soaked with water. Log was very hard to write on and all the logs were smudged.
Working nearby and popped down to the lagoon on a gloomy day and made the find.
Surprised at the amount of goats on the other bank.
Found the cache left on the ground in the open, so placed away in the most likely spot.
The log sheet is soaking wet in here (probably because of being on the ground in the heavy rain around lately)
nice to have some new cache hiders around here.

Went for an afternoon stroll to find this one had parked about 1km away and walked along the track around to the lagoon. The area in front of gz was obviously under a bit of water during the recent floods but it has dried out now.
The cache was easy to spot sitting in the twisted tree signed log and then walked back around the road back to the car.
Thanks ryanandadam for this cache

The second find for the day for Calypso62, Possum Blossom & me. However, the area does need a good mow, possibly by Council (The grass was a bit too long, especially for PB). The cache name is certainly well chosen. After finding the cache, PB insisted on another swing. Then it was time to return home for an ice cream. TNLNSL TFTC

I was out with my Poppy, (Calypso62) and my GRUG (that's Great Uncle Geotooter ) for a play on the equipment. My Poppy suggested we go and find some treasure so off we went. The grass was very long, too long for my little legs to walk through so Poppy carried me. We found the twisted tree and I could see where the cache was hidden. GRUG signed my name for me because I can't write yet! I am only two and a half! I saw the little snake in the cache but I decided to leave it there. Thanks ryanandadam for a good little hide.

What a lovely day to be in the park and the equipment here is excellent for kids. I was up from Sydney visiting my family and noticed there were two relatively new caches here. I needed a find for today to fill in my calendar so this was a double whammy.... a play in the park and a cache. I think it's about time Mr Mower Man gave this area the once over as the grass is very high to walk through. Coordinates were excellent and the twisted tree was soon discovered. I tried to find the previous cache in this park (was it called GI JOE???) so it's good to see geocachers have another reason to come to this lovely location. Thanks ryanandadam.

It is in a spot that would not see too many visitors which is a good thing and the tree is easy to spot as it is twisted.

Came up to Maitland today to grab a few old and new caches.
After picking up Morky70's lagoon cache we returned to the car only to find that this one was not far away so off we go again (we need the exercise anyway). GPSr took us straight to it and it was quite visible from a distance. SL and replaced with a bit of cover to hide it better. TNLN. Thanks ryanandadam.

We got the notification while out at aqua golf enjoying hitting some balls out on the water. After we were done we made our way to GZ to join up with Morky70 for a joint FTF to find chipyroos had beaten us by 15mins! Thanks guys
This cache was only about 500 metres from my house but i was about 4km away getting some plants at the nursery when i got the notification.
Just as i was arriving home, i got a call from teamsenz to see if i wanted to meet them near GZ and hopefully grab a joint FTF.
We met up at the car park and then wandered across the paddock to GZ only to find we had been beaten to the cache by chippyroo who had been there about 15 min earlier.
Its always good to catch up with you guys for a bit of a chat !!
