All dry and well hidden. Great location, gets a fave from me. Clue wasn't much help with many clue items (or maybe I just didn't get it) but past logs pointed to the general area and the cache was soon in hand. Good to see the cycle path work in this interesting historical area. Thanks for the cache.

Good find

I was lucky enough to be back in the area today and hoped to avenge the DNF I logged last time I was here. I had done a little homework this time and was convinced I was in the right area having viewed photos posted by previous finders. I think the water level must have been unusually high on my last visit because I was able to get a little further around today and quickly spotted the hiding spot. I grabbed the pathtag that had been left. TFTC.

I was looking at my map and became slightly unhappy with the state Rotorua was in so I sent a message out to Mc Jandals who became my co-pilot for today. We were able to find all but one of the caches on my list and even ended up roping in Davidson Clan to help on the Mamaku leg of our trip. Even though there had been no action on this cache since I was here last I still felt compelled to investigate again. I had some fresh eyes with me and thank god for that - we'd been at gz for about 5 minutes when Mc Jandals started querying an object buried 4 ft into the hill side! It was dark and I couldn't make it out either but I saw a flicker of blue and was confident that wasn't a naturally occurring colour. We found a stick that was just long and rigid enough to dig the container free and then we were sorted. We took it to the nearby seating to examine and all in all it was in pretty good knick. We replaced the log which was rotting away and that's about it. The highlight of our trip today though and a favourite point from me. We didn't want it to be muggled but couldn't replace it as found either - so in the hillside in line with the hint I've made a little cairn with the cache underneath. It'll be obvious to a geocacher but hopefully will look like left over rocks from a previous slip to everyone else. Cheers Wingnut Rocks, TFTC.

On a lil mish from Tauranga today with PP to clear some of the Rotorua spots. A bit overcast and showery, still it’s only water. I am logging these with a generic template on Cachly. Many Thanks to all cache owners for the placements. What a great woohoo moment after finally finding this as last time we were here there was a slip in the way, we needed to replace sodden log but all else is good. A fp. Cheers

No luck here

The path to GZ is closed for maintenance but with time on my hands and no one around I decided to go have a look for this one anyway. The walk looks like its pretty cool and GZ was really nice as well, but like others I couldn't find this one. I was confidant I was in the right spot looking in the right spot. Given the cool location and number of favorite points it would be great to get this one up and running again. Hopefully I'll get a chance on another visit to the area in the future.

Managed to make it down to the water and soon aligned myself with the hint. The problem here is the amount of tree fall. It's clear tonnes of rumble and trees have fallen here and I believe **if** the cache is still here then it is very much buried. It certainly need checking on, cheers Wingnut Rocks.

23-Jul-17
On a little road trip with fellow cachers, TnxPro & Phillip Perry today. Brought the bikes and off we headed. as per previous log, looks like it may be buried.

23-Jul-17
On an impromptu caching trip in the great Redwood forest today. I joined up with Philip.Perry and Mc Jandals. We brought the bikes today and semi planned to get as many caches as possible along the bike trails.

Unfortunately, it looks like it may be inaccessible.

Searched and searched but no luck. Lots of fallen pine branches and foliage from nearby workings hampered the attempt to find. I'll definitely revisit this one, a beautiful spot

Caches like this is the reason we geocache. A lovely little walk and then down some steps to somewhere magical. Love this spot to enjoy the magical nature it has to share. We originally rock hopped a bit far. There is no need to rock hop. Saw the 3 pungas which told us to come back and from here cache was quickly found. Stayed for a while enjoying this gorgeous location. Fav pint from us Smile TFTC

26-Apr-17
Cache is still there

19-Apr-17
Yeah nah, no luck for us today. Found 2 tall pungas with another fallen in the river that matched where we wanted to be and had a really really good look and could not find a thing..... wonder if the rains have dealt to this cache and looking at the photos in the gallery we are pretty sure we were in the right place. What a shame for us Sad

Found with livee_nz on a night walk. Awesome place for a cache! Nice to come at night and see the glowworms on the other side of the stream. Found cache quickly. Log wet but still able to sign. TFTC

A lovely walk and scrabble in the dark to pick this one off. Going to come back in the daylight to really appreciate the spot. Out with georunnermatt, he had the advantage of the better head torch and pole position to lay hands on this one first. Drained some water out and added a TB tftc! A fave too

20-Jan-17
Such a cool spot So the location gets a fav from us , although the hint is very vague as there are lots of pungas in groups of three.

Cool spot not too hard

This took a lot longer than I would have liked but through perseverance I got there in the end. Lovely peaceful spot.

#8789. Took a nice walk in Whakarewarewa to look for the big rock overhang. A few cyclists, runners and walkers were on the track today, but GZ itself was all quiet when we visited. Considering that it was so close to State Highway 5, it was a surprisingly lovely secluded spot. GPS reception was quite challenging here, but managed to find the container after a short search. The log book was a little damp, but just writeable. Unfortunately, Poetry in Motion was not in the cache. Took nothing, left nothing, signed log.

Thanks for bringing us to the site, and …

Had a lovely walk and searched for quite awhile but no luck. We couldn't decide which of the three tall pungas you were talking about but looked opposite all of them but no find.

About 3 years after first finding this cache I return with sveppi to show her the lovely Hemo Gorge walk. It's changed a lot again since I was last here, with the construction of Te Ara Ahi. As we neared GZ I left sveppi to find the cache by herself while I took the tripod out to try and take pretty pictures of the stream. I watched her sign the log through the camera lens, then she disappeared out of frame again to replace the cache, and we went on our way for another find.
Reminded me how lovely and secluded a spot this is, so I'll add a favourite point this time around.

Out with fanfan-77 on a Sunday walk. This cache and walk has been on my radar for a while now. Today seems like a good day for it. What a gem of a spot... so close to town but pretty much hidden. Thanks for the placement, it's lovely here. Found after a short search. The log book is very wet and a bit difficult to sign. Took the TB. TFTC

11/05/16 12:05 After having to invent a tool to replace the prior cache, I took a walk. The tracks been upgraded a lot since my last excursion along here, to find a Hemo Pump Cache. Interesting to think that the gorge used to drain L Rotorua... The GZ was a rare treat, intriguing to find brickwork just past it... Thanks. Cheers, GC.

Thanks for showing us another cool Rotorua Location! I've been looking at your heli-pad cache and wondering if my bush nav is up to the challenge.................

Absolutely amazing. Was quite literally speechless when I found this spot. Of all the natural wonders I've seen in Rotorua so far this little spot for some unknown reason is right up there with the best of them for me. Peaceful and quiet. Spent quite a while here just enjoying the view.
Thanks alot for this placement. Will definitely be bringing the family back here for a lakeside picnic sometime soon.
A favourite point from me!

What an awesome spot, sat there for a little while and just chilled out, so peaceful and secluded. Found cache fully exposed out in open, tucked up under. Log book quite damp but could still write in. TN, left whistle. Thanks heaps for this placement.

I hate admitting to not finding a cache, but just couldn't find this one today. At least it was only one DNF in 13 caches on a fun morning. Still a beautiful spot to visit, and will be back to find it. I've just read through all the logs and think I have a little more idea for my next attempt, although not sure when I will be back in the area Sad

Got near and then the GPS signal lost accuracy, looked and looked ate an apple and looked some more.
Once I looked in the right place it was easy to spot!!!! Left glow in the dark creature. Does not require re arranging the vegetation or rocks to grab this.

Coming to the end of our holiday in new Zealand and we'll soon be heading back to Scotland via Australia. We've really enjoyed exploring NZ's wildlife and interesting geocaches.

Picked up a few nice geocaches today and will move on the TBs, No problem getting this one. TFTC

Last cache for the day and one that clear's the Rotorua map once again (except for the Lake Tarawera ones).
Had looked at the Satellite map at this cache and had wondered the best way to get to GZ, I should not have worried as an easy track got right to GZ from the Waipa Mill MTB carpark. walked the bike down the stairs and parked it up while I scouted for the cache. To my surprise I found it almost straight away, this gave me more time to enjoy the views and take a few pics.
I am glad I didnt attempt this from the track up the hill like I was originally gonna do, that could have seen me come straight down over the rock overhang!!
Thanks for showing me this spot, worthy of a look!!
