Great view!

A goodly little walk to the summit in a freezing cold day. Luckily it was a quick find while I enjoyed the stunning views on a clear day TFTC The GeoPrincess

In all our travels we would not have even thought to travel to this location. (HaHa). In your dreams, these cachers do. Thanks for an awesome effort. Devilish Brilliant and Clever I like it Another one off the list TTBLNSL TFTC/TFTH/TFBUH - Geoprincess

What a beautiful cache. The kids loved finding this one.

18-Feb-24
Overnight visit to Mt Hotham working with the old man. Family came along for the ride. Actually, our first time up here - drive up - is nothing short of amazing. An early morning for me to make the trek up to one, we were all going to do it yesterday arvo but not everyone was keen after realising how long it was.. pfft muggles.. Quite windy this morning as i made my way up, once at the top, I snapped a few pics and spotted where I needed to go. I made this relatively easy hide hard by an early oversight round and round I went till I went back to the first place I looked and found it.. Glad to be able to tick Hotham off my summit list. TFTC! FP awarded.

A lovely evening for a still to the summit.Ive driven past many times but this evening I had time to stop, so off I went with the kids in tow. They played in the small amount of snow on the way to GZ, then made a quick find there.Stunning views! TFTC

06-Nov-23
We were in Mount Hotham to attend a sunset event and we decided we had enough time to race up to the cache and get back before dark. It was a bit steeper than I thought but we made it to the cache and back before dark. Even though it was quite cold we were very warm by the time we reached the cache. It was worth the walk for the fabulous views

05-Nov-23
A brisk walk up the hill from Diamatina Hut before Ronice's event and sunset. We were power walking and weirdobiker was cruising while I was struggling. A quick find - how this cache stays dry and intact in an Alpine environment is a mystery.thanks for placing and maintaining this cache GeoPrincess.cheerskbucky

20-Oct-23
Lovely day and lovely spot with amazing views. There was only one other walker up the top and I just waited a bit for them to leave before finding the cache. TFTC.

05-Mar-23
Woke to a windy and cloudy morning so no one was particularly keen to do the Mt Loch track which was our original plan.
In the end I wanted one cache so the geowife and I hiked through the fog to Mt Hotham. Not much view at the top (though I wish I came here yesterday as the most alpine spot I visited). A quick walk down the hill to a quick find. Left a TB to continue its journey.

I absolutely love these alpine caches. The weather was fantastic, even with the -5 windchill. Thanks for putting this here as a reason to walk some of these stunning tracks. The cache was brilliant. Amazing views and love the snow gums. TFTC

**Total find count: 1246**

Not wanting to travel too far, and looking to find some caches, it became a case of locating caches within close proximity to the roads where possible, as well as a final cache near the summit of Mount Hotham.

The biggest issue for us today was the lack of planning on our behalf to bring insect repellant with us, although with the shear size and quantity of insects, I'm not sure anything other than a bug net would have kept them at bay.

Cache was found with Crzymelly, TeamPQS & JustWanderingAbout

What a way to end the geocaching for the day at the summit of Mount Hotham! Unfortunately the views were hazy, but we could see for kilometres and kilometres. Moving down from the summit, there was only one place the cache could be. GZ was located, and the cache spotted. Log signed and replaced as found.

Good quick find, beautiful spot

05-Jan-23
A relatively easy cache to find but the walk up from Diamantina’s Hut in gale force winds made this a real slog. Terrific location, thanks.

good weather today. getting cold... good location

13-Apr-22
It's been a while between finds but we always manage to find a new place for holidays giving us plenty of time for some caching and plenty of new caches to find finally. We'd spent a couple days down in Wandiligong but today was time to tackle Mt Hotham. While there was no snow we still couldn't wait for what the top had awaiting for us. It was a windy ascent to the top but it was sure worth it as we came up to the chilly main town. We enjoyed the pleasant walk up to the top, taking in the incredible 360 views around us. We made it to GZ and the younger two located while I got some photos. Thanks for the adventure and hide GeoPrincess

On a camping road trip with our caching buddies and picking up a few caches as we go. We are currently staying at Victoria Falls campground and today we headed up to Mt Hotham to walk to the summit. It was a little cool and windy on the way up. After admiring the views, taking lots of pics and chatting to the fire tower warden, who knew about the cache, we headed off to find said cache. The coordinates were spot on and Mrs Pooky made a quick easy find but it was Mr Pooky who did the retrieving. Wetjala was last to arrive at GZ. More pics, more chatting to the fire tower warden then we made our retreat. The wind had subsided and the sun appeared and it had warmed up. TFTC, an added bonus after our walk to the summit. TNLN.

Camping Trip: Home - Nug Nug - **Victoria Falls** (Camp) via Bright/Harrietville - Big River (Camp) via Omeo - Platypus (Camp) via Mitta Mitta - Home via Tallangatta/Benambra/Omeo etc.

After spending a couple of days camping at Victoria Falls we headed back up here to take in the views from atop Mt Hotham and of course, seek out this cache. I left the seeking part to my enthusiastic mates while I babbled to the guy manning the fire watch tower who just sighed and rolled his eyes when told why my two mates had their posteriors aimed skyward while bent over, poking around under a nearby tree!

As my friends observation skills are on par with those of Blind Freddy it must have been an easy find because by the time I joined them at the GZ they had signed the log and were re-hiding the cache again.

We did what would be considered a ‘gentle recovery stroll’ up to the summer of Hotham, having done a gruelling 23kms to Feathertop and back the day before. The wind had got up, and while the thick fog had lifted, we were almost blown off the summit! Nice hide and find, cache is in great condition considering it would be under snow for several months of the year. Had yet another reptilian encounter on the way down - lots of them about!!

Our turning point and a highlight of today's excursion from Wangaratta to Mt Hotham! We thoroughly enjoyed the drive and walk up here. Upon arrival, a few wanderers were about ro leave, but the fire warden in the lookout was happy to answer our questions. Relatively low fire danger for a summer's day was what we loved to hear from him. We took plenty of photos of the beautiful views, skilifts, plants, birds and rocks. Having two members in the team we attempted a stealthy approch towards GZ, with only one of us actually going all the way to the beautiful tree. Upon reuniting near the top, the fire specialist asked: Did you find the geocache?
So much for stealth ...

Lovely setting for a nice cache - found while on a happy out and back leg stretch from Hotham Village. All is good with the cache too. TFTC!

Fire lookout caches usually get favourites from me but this was just so amazing. Even after I found the cache I kept looking around at the landscape for another hour and took so many pictures. This cache was just amazing and as I close in on 15000 finds this will go down as a memorable cache.

Headed up Mt Hotham to find the trig and stopped by here first.

We did the Razorback (22km return) then returned to the car to find it wouldn't start. Sat around for an hour or two while we waited for roadside assistance to arrive, then I figured I might as well head up Hotham to pass the time. Though it's not long or hugely steep from Diamantina Hut, it felt easily the hardest hiking of the day, after sitting down for a while after a long hike.

Cache itself easily found after taking in the great views from the top. Some really nice cloud art going on in the sky was a definite plus. Thanks for the cache.

07-Mar-21
A long weekend in the high country led to a trip to Hotham to grab a couple of caches. This one sets a new altitude record for us! Found quickly in good condition while the fire lookout was facing the other way. Tftc

On a one night stopover in the caravan at Dinner Plain and grabbed a few caches this afternoon. Four caches have just about killed me, now for dinner and an early night Big Grin
I think I had the GeoPrincess in the car with me this time, well, maybe GeoPrincess2 (MuggleWifeDoes).
Had to kick here out of the car to get her to climb another hill, after a couple of SkullRacings hill climb caches.
Turned out to be a very pleasant walk. Magnificent views.

The heights of Hotham, to the depths of the Ovens at Bright - it was all downhill for us today!! WinkWink
The magic of the mountains - the fog/cloud cleared just as we approached the summit - fantastic to see the clouds drifting by over the ridges and in the valleys below us.
It was interesting to see such a variety of alpine plants in flower. A FP for location.
(This type of container should be used by everyone up here.)

Thanks The GeoPrincess for placing caches for everyone's enjoyment.

Between the bushfire at the start of the year then Covid its been forever since we got to enjoy it up here.....and that first hill took a bit to blow out the cobwebs. Once we got the ole joints going again we really enjoyed the trek. At GZ the wind was trying to blow us off the side of the hill while we got the log signed.

We headed to Dinner Plain for a walk and we enjoyed exploring the area. The views were spectacular - such a great day in the hills. On our way back down towards our accommodation we stopped at the cross so I could walk up to this cache. Found nice and easily before enjoying the views here too. Quite the panoramic views! Cache in good condition. TFTC TheGeoPrincess

The Diamantina walk is only 900m one way. But it's NOT flat. Groan... We thought this would be a short 30 minute walk, but with my fitness level, it took us 1.5hrs for the return trip, inclusive of looking for the cache, enjoying the view and building a rock memorial marker. Thanks for this cache. It added an additional element of fun to this walk. The zip lock bag needed replacing and as I had a spare on me, the log book should stay dry for another season.

Walked up here and talked for a while with the fire spotter - it turned out that he knows some Norwegian from a ski instructing stint there, so we chatted a bit in our respective Scandinavian languages. I said that I wanted to have a look a bit further down and he went inside for some spotting around the horizon. I found the cache all right (thanks, GeoPrincess) and returned via the summit cairn. We talked a fair bit more about fires, ecology, literature, history.... And he's of course aware of the cache, so no worries there.

When myself at Pacman arrived at GZ, blowing a gale by now, there was a man in a balaclava, small hiking poles and shorts.

Just come up to check out the view?
Yeah, just walked up from Hattietville.
It was only about 1030am! Heading back again to the start again after a quick breather at the top!

Very keen. Some people chase things other than plastic boxes. Like health, fitness. I'll take the former Very Happy

Day 4 of an epic 5-day roadtrip hiking and 4WDing between the Alpine and Kosciuszko National Parks with Jacko had us travelling from Omeo to Bright via Mt Hotham.

Which cacher can resist a trig point?! Smile
I'm not very familiar with Mt Hotham although I've hiked to Razorback to Mt Feathertop several times. This was a great opportunity to get the know the area better and I wasn't going to let the howling wind deter me. There was still quite a bit of snow on these peaks.
Some event nearby has runners and hikers walking up and down from Harrietville. Sort of puts our 2km into perspective.
A quick and easy find at GZ, which is what you want when your hands are freezing!
Thanks GeoPrincess.

Well my three days in the High Country have been awesome, but like all good things they must come to an end. This was to be my final cache of the weekend.

I parked up at the cross and used the access road to wander up.

I had a chat to the fire spotter up here and he was telling me that today looked as though it would be his last day up there for the season. He'd had a quiet season yet had spoken to "thousands" of tourists.

He had a coffee to finish and I had a cache to find so off I went.

Just in front of the cache hiding spot is a perfect spot to sit down and put your feet up.....and this is what I did.

Of course I grabbed the cache, logged it as well!

A new day dawns on the mountain, sunny with a few clouds and a cosy 10degrees! Sounds like a day to do a few hikes for some smiley faces. Thought we would start off with this ‘easy’ walk to the Fire Tower - our third Fire Tower cache this year! We followed on foot as the man on duty made his way slowly by car. Had a bit of a chat as he got himself organised for his day of spotting and we discovered the trig point. Then it was time for him to get into work mode and us to get into caching mode. SL at 11.17am Left: music PT Took a few photos - who can resist! and made our way back to our geoCruiser. #5108 TFTC The GeoPrincess and our first cardio workout today.

Sitting at my computer during these Covid lockdowns, I am trying to catch up on a few logs that I haven't sent in yet.

Over the years, geocaching has taken me on many adventures, including interesting destinations all over my home continent of Australia and many overseas as well. It has also introduced me to a diverse group of like-minded caching tragics, many of whom I now call close friends.

Today, I was lucky enough to be out and about searching for caches, something I do on almost a daily basis. This was one cache that was targeted and found.

Sorry for the late log, something I am notorious for. Thank you for adding to the adventure that is geocaching.

Thanks The GeoPrincess (F=95 H=6) for the cache.

We have been slowly making our way from Queensland down to Victoria to attend the Alexandra Mega Event and finding a few caches along the way. We decided to stay for a few days in Dinner Plains but ending up taking some time to explore a little further afield at Mt Buffalo Surprised We went for a few short walks and checked out some places for future reference should we be lucky enough to find ourselves out this way again Razz

We stopped by here as we made our way back up the mountain range toward Dinner Plain. We have been surprised at the amount of snow was still to be seen on the range Surprised We couldn't help ourselves, taking the opportunity to play in the icy remnants and throwing snowballs at each other Razz The GPSr didn't seem to want to settle but eventually we located the cache and with our name added to the logbook, we continued on our way Wink

Thank you The GeoPrincess for having placed the cache and maintaining it for everyone to enjoy Cool

Dad and 14yo spent three days up in the high country, hiking and sleeping under canvas while we hunted caches and generally bonded like men.

This was 17th of 20 that we grabbed over the 3 days, with no DNF's whatsoever - a family record!!!

We slept the previous night just down the hill at Diamantina Hut, and were greeted by a glorious sunrise which made it easier to pack our things, load-up the geo-mobile and get cracking for the day. Parked by the Cross and made the easy walk across to the GZ where we discovered the very pretty cache in no time at all.

14yo laughed as dad sat on a thistle, but other than that, all was good. TFTC GeoPrincess, this is a great spot to visit - must look vastly different in the winter!!!

Found while travelling from Bairnsdale to Mt Buffalo via Dargo and Mt Hotham as part of our 11 day caching, camping, cycling, climbing, caving and kayaking trip to eastern Victoria. I missed this one on my last trip here as TomTom misled me on our way out, took extra special care this year and enjoyed the short walk to the summit and playing in the last of the snow on the mountain.
Thanks

Today was a great day to go caching - blue skies, no clouds, not too hot, and a nice cool breeze. All today's caches were up around Mt Hotham and apart from 2, all terrains were between 3 and 4 inclusive. Even though I've completed the "Spread the Love Challenge", today's haul would have gained 113 months of unloved caches.

There were still large patches of snow around, and to gain access to the track to this cache, I parked opposite one of them and walked around it to shortcut the job. Once at GZ there was only one likely object, and there it was - a nice quick find. Great views along the track to the cache. Thanks again to The GeoPrincess for the cache.

Found it! I managed to convince my walking partners it would be a great idea to top off our morning meander around the cross country ski trails with a short walk up Mt Hotham, to enjoy the views. As it turned out there were no views by the time we made the summit! I was even a bit concerned that I may get lost looking of the cache! It goes to show that the weather can quickly change in the Alps and you should always be prepared and not take the conditions for granted. TFTC SL Smile

When we left Omeo this morning there was heavy cloud and we thought that we might be in for a wet today. However as we got past the 1100m mark the cloud cleared and we were in brilliant sunshine, ideal conditions for a visit to Mt Hotham. Being a caching team, we found a location much closer to GZ where Mrs y'stassie could get out of the car and then Mr y'stassie headed off to look for another cache. This tactic saved a lot a walking. After a short walk up a slight incline, Mrs y'stassie got to GZ where, after a short hunt, the cache was located in an excellent hide. The cache and contents were in good condition. The views from this location were spectacular in the ideal weather. Thanks The GeoPrincess for the cache and for bringing one of us to this great vantage point. It earns a favourite from us.

A cold one this morning and the wind chill colder again as I got to the top with the views not even enough to warm me up! Just when I though it couldn't get any colder, I needed to move down the hill to the cache location, wind was cutting like a knife! Cache is in very good condition with me hoping that the internal container was a thermos flask! Will hopefully return to some of these caches in the area when the snow comes in which wasn't far off today! TFTC!

Somehow I stored the information in my head that you can drive up to GZ. You can, but not without getting into trouble. Since that wasn't really an option I wanted to check out in detail, we walked Wink After taking some stupid pics we headed back to the car for more mischief up the mountain.

Thanks and cheers Wink

Found at 11:47 AM GAFF1 in the company of The Farmers 5 (but there were only 4 of 'em Razz). After finding some snow which was not an easy task to get to [xx(], we continued up the track to the peak of Hotham and just loved the panoramic view. The wind was quite stiff and cool here, but we really needed it to be like that as we were way overheated after walking up the steep slopes.
Took quite a few photos and then waited while TF5 went to find and play in some snow patches.
Gets a favourite for the location and because we could drive there [^]
Thanks The GeoPrincess.

Before attending the Hotham Gamble event myself and the wife picked up a some of the local caches. With success in completing Rippa Dippa nearby we checked out Diamantina Hut before taking the very narrow and busy track up to this cache. The views got better and better the closer we got to GZ. Once there it was a nice find and impressed by the style of container, so way this one its getting wet in winter. With logged signed we checked out the nearby Trig point and 360 degree views. Thanks for bringing us here today.Big GrinCool

The GPS today told me this cache was at 1863m and is the highest cache so far found in Victoria. Another cache for the 1700m Victorian Challenge.

We left the farm mobile back on tar and trekked to GZ in the Pprass mobile with 6 in tow.
Passed some walkers with a friendly wave from us and soon got to the day's best pic spot. Whilst 2 went to the cache , head farmer took the 2 girls to the snow with a 500 m side hill trek.
Got some top pics in the snow
at the summit and this is very worthy of a " favourite tick ".
Many thanks to The Geo Princess for a well placed cache that will be on most teams " must do " lists.

Find #4230
210 Days of unlove, this cache is now loved again.

I had been looking forward to the Hotham Gamble Event weekend for some time, so had done quite a bit of planning the caches I wanted to find while here. My main focus was to qualify for The Victorian 1700m+ ASL Challenge, but make sure I had at least ten above 1800m, the way the challenge was originally intended Big Grin.

After the excitement of two FTF's, I headed for my intended start point for today. I parked near Dimatina Hut and made my way up the hill. It was still quite overcast, so I didn't have much chance of a view, but headed up the hill anyway. It had been a few years since I was in the area, but I did remember this walk to GZ. Once there, a nice quick find as well as a bit of shelter from the wind.

Swapped a pathtag.

A favourite point for the High Country location.

Thanks to The GeoPrincess for placing this cache.

#785 - Meeting friends from Bairnsdale for lunch on Mt Hotham (about halfway). After lunch, we all did the 2.5km trek up to the summit and back. It was a cool day with moderate winds, a beanie was essential. Once at GZ the cache was quickly located and we admired the 360 deg views on a very clear day. Left Pathtag.
TFTC The GeoPrincess, our highest find to date.

Number 3 in an enjoyable days caching with thornbill3690. Had lunch on the summit then came down to this one - easy find! Then chatted to the firewatcher in the tower who knows all about caching and has been down to see this one.... TFTC, another 1700m Challenge one knocked off!

Managed to find a reasonably easy way to this one only to see a worker from the tower drive in! We had a chat and not surprisingly he knew all about the cache. A well constructed hide too I have to say The GeoPrincess. Many thanks for putting it here. Love your cacher photo too!
