Weather seems to have settled, hopefully. Should get to it soon on a maintenance run.
Having fitness problems which have improved. Now waiting for weather to improve and water to go down.
We are doing the series today by Kayak. We couldn’t find anything but a bit of black cord. Hopefully we have better luck with the next one.
A great day on the water with all of team WolfgangRalph. Super fun and kid friendly thanks Codella.
This morning we loaned the 2 person Canadian canoe from the owner and started our paddling tour.
Quick find.

Checked today. Becoming a little overgrown with small mangrove trees but is accessible.
We paddled to within about 30m of GZ, but once we got to GZ we took a long time to find it. Once we read the description, we moved our search, and eventually found it. TFTC!
Found today on a nice trip through the sand islands after borrowing a friends little tinny! Awesome caches!

For years we've wanted to get out and do this series, for ages the kids were a bit young, or we didn't have a kayak, then when we did try last year we butted up against winds that nearly blew us away. When I learned a work colleague had a little tinny we could use, and lived on the lake (next door to the CO) we knew what to do! So today we teamed up with Banj5150 for an early start.
One for me! Navigating the shallows again in here, we beached and headed ashore. As usual, followed the GPS until it says 0m, then look out in front of you, there it is! TFTC!

Found with Dad, Samuel and Banj on our morning in the boat at the sand islands, lots of fun!

I joined Team 737 to find the Sand Island caches on this overcast Sunday afternoon.
We were borrowing a tinny from a friend of the 737s, and launched from very close to the COs house.
A nice easy find, just a shame some disgusting @#$&*s decided to dump their rubbish nearby.

Wasn't sure about the GZ, moving, and not changing the cords? Is it missing or in a new spot to the black cord?
Sorry - As we didn't write on the log this is a did not find for us. Anyone else good luck with finding the log!!! Don't let the black twine fool you.
Cache check today. All good except that it seems to have moved a few metres from where it should be. Have moved it closer to GZ rather than change coords.
TFTC the four of us almost gave up, two stuck around determined to find it and when we found, it was so obvious. Cheers.
Not quite at the coordinates for us but we do find it. It helped to look for the paths.
Having recently invested in a kayak, I decided today was the day to return here and finish off my one find here at the sand islands.
But as I was unloading the Kayak from the roof racks, I realised that it was a lot windier on the lake than it was at home.
I arrived to #1 and after a search from land, I got back in the kayak for a look from the water, but came up empty handed.
However, my not finding the cache doesn't mean that it isn't here, just that I wasn't good enough today, I'll be back when the wind isn't.

Today we decided to tackle a few caches in the Lake Macquarie area so we hired a double Kayak from Lake Mac Kayak hire and headed off at 8:30 am before it was too hot. Our 1st stop was number 6 and we worked our way in a clockwise direction finding 5 out of the 6 caches and this was one of them
The wind was up so off we went full paddle ahead enjoying what the lake had to offer. There were many boating/fishing muggles about making the most of the hot day.
Our quickest find of the series.
Thanks "colleda " for providing this challenge and placing and maintaining these caches for our enjoyment.

I was up here for the OZGeomuster weekend, packed up camp and came up to the CITO and the farewell events, and because I had arranged to have Tuesday off work to avoid the end of Easter traffic/having to rush back for work, I had an afternoon to have fun ... and have fun I did! ... I had my kayak with me, and I had spotted some islands with caches on them ... seemed like a good idea (seems it was - lol) ... so I found a likely looking spot to launch from ... not quite, but found somewhere just nearby that worked ok, and had myself a fun afternoon of paddling around exploring some islands, having a swim, taking lots of strange photos, and finding a few caches ... I stayed out there until my phone battery and my power bank were both flat (I cache, and take most of my photos, with my phone), and I was running out of day ... ended up sitting out on the water taking sunset photos with my camera then packing my Kayak/etc up as it got dark - lol
TFTC - this was the first one I found.
Thought I had found a muggled medium... but it wasn't one, it was some other rusty old container - cache was all ok
Finding this cache was maybe not the best thing to do when drying off from a swim and wearing nothing but a swimming costume... lol

After finding number 7 we headed across to this cache. The reeds are spikey sharp here , Little Roo and I got attacked . we were really enjoying this series and thanks to Colleda for placing them for us to enjoy tnln sl
A bunch of us HAVOC and C4 cachers were out in these seas today to attend the GC76ZBV **Mary Hyde & Seek?** event on Pelican Island. After hearing that CO colleda had offered up the use of their canadian 2-man canoe, we novos jumped at the rare chance to attend a water event and to come and attempt these freshly maintained Sand Island series of caches!
Mighty Minions, Little Roo, Bryzee, and us two novos all began the trip back north across the channel from #7 to this the first one of the series. We rounded the southern tip of the island into the inlet and landed ~30m to the south of GZ. Water very deep and crystal clear here - Little Roo appeared to be gliding across thin air! The cache was found by MM and LR who braved it through the needles while us novos were briefly distracted by snacks given out by Bryzee lol. Just as we were setting sail for #2 we were greeted by BillHill531 coming in from the north. This cache was our 4th and final 2/4 for the day bringing the novo tally up to 12. TFTC, colleda, and thanks again for the lend of the old skool pirate ship. We had a most awesome day of caching with good company on what was a fantastic day on the water today!

Once we got on land it was a short walk for a lengthy search, till I spotted a splash of colour.

Found while attending the 'Mary Hyde & Seek' event. Launching the kayak at the recommended coordinates and doing just under 8km visiting all the required sand islands to find all attempted caches today, this was the 6th one today, after #2 going south on the Eastern side I came here, the GPS hade me in the middle of all the spicky plants, nice little inner container. While looking for D2/T4 caches needed to qualify for a challenge cache, I saw this group of island hides. Launching my kayak from the beach at the end of Naru Street, I paddled the short distance across the channel to the island.
I didn't have GZ to myself, though, as there was a launch moored very close to the cache with an inquisitive dog watching on as I homed in on the cache. Managing to mostly avoid the needle-sharp reeds, I quickly spotted the cache and completed the signing duties. Thankfully GZ itself was out of sight from the boat.
I did have a couple of photos I was going to upload with this log but the new logging page won't allow that, or even let me caption the one it did accept, so this is the boat that was near GZ.

Mr Roo ask me come to Sand Island PT 1-7... He go to Bushwalking with his friends first then meet me ... Had so much fun doing this series of caches. Thank you Mr Roo for let me borrow his Kayak.. I love his Kayak to island.... Thanks colleda... put fav for you... WINK!
Out today with All7 and my bushwalking club. Today was a club event and I invited All7 to join us. The bushwalking club hadnt done much geocaching before but had heard about it from me. They all had a turn on finding one, even the ones who were just there for the paddle. We had a great time going onto the sand island that they had paddled but not stopped on the many times they had been on the lake.
This one. 3 members of the bushwalking club jumped out of their kayaks and started the search. Soon I heard the words found it and one excited member was very proud of herself. TFTC

Tftc. Had so much fun doing this series of caches. Pleased to say there was only one we could not find.
No chance finding this one today. Lots of muggles very close to GZ so decided to leave it...
We've been wanting to do this series since it was first published. July last year we arrived at a launching spot to be confronted with wind, rough water and cold. But we didn't abandon hope. This visit to Newcastle wasn't producing the best weather either. Two days of wind, expected rain and thunderstorms but today, early, it looked good......though there were no other kayakers around to back up this theory. We launched the kayak and started paddling to #1. GZ had the feel of a visit to the acupuncturist, it was kinder to just stand still and scan. Pleased the cache was eye catching in the sun otherwise we might never have found it. TFTC colleda.
We borrowed a canoe to have a go at this series, made it as far as #4 before giving up to get lunch. Lucky the high tide had just reached it's peak which made for smooth paddling back to the car! Thanks for the series, will be back soon to finish!
So many stabby reeds at this location but eventually found it!
So many stabby reeds at this location but eventually found it!
Well that was an epic
Not so much to get there as to find the minuscule bison (incidentally not black) whilst being stabbed by the ferocious reeds they seem to grow here!
Bring some goggles (seriously) as unless you are getting poked in the eye you won't get this one. Fortunately I am a bespectacled gent but even so had a few glancing wounds.
In a nearby tree hung a pair of a asics runners so took them to dispose of (as in a sad way - and they were the wrong size.)
Remarkable how much seemingly deliberate rubbish nearby ( a blue couch! Etc). I guess it could have washed up?!

Will be doing these over the next little while

Due to the storm conditions of the last few days we are disabling this series until we can check them out to avoid disappointing would be finders.
Cache check on this today. I'm sure I put a new log in this. Anyhow, it has a new one now. How could someone put this back together wrong, it's a bison tube!
Thank god we brought the boat. Had fishing gear on board and need a fishing hook to extract the inner container which had stupidly been put in upside down by previous finder. Oops! Quick find. Slightly longer job to extract/repair. All good now though. TNLN TFTC yay for boats and days off
We hired a boat this morning to have a crack at these caches, we ended up doing 4 only and will return back when we have more time. Arrived at GZ and soon spotted the cache only to find log sheet missing, we placed a piece of paper in it with our sticker on it, the only thing is we placed the container wrong way.. Oops. Sorry.
I think this series should be terrain 5 as you need equipment to arrive to the location. TFTC

TFTC... Nice paddle out to GZ only to find a smuggle camping nearby. Approached with stealth from opposite direction and soon had cache in hand, signed log and paddled off.
Fun find in pretty location. Didn't bring a pen while kayaking so attaching a pic.
Doing the series in order this, obviously, was our first stop after a quick paddle through the crystal clear waters we dumped the kayaks and ran over to GZ. Found after a bit of searching through the prickly plants, signed the log and jumped back in the kayaks. Glad we chose these at high tide as in some parts it would have involved walking and lugging the kayaks over sand backs if the water was any lower.
Thanks for the hide. Great idea for a series of caches

After number two we finally came to get this one. Goodness it was busy here!
So many people. There was one boat with a slide on it with, ending on the second level, so a 2-3m drop!
Spotted quickly, retrieved a bit slower due to spikes. Signed log and replaced.
The journey took longer then we expected and we were right where we launched from, so called it a day.
Will come back later this summer to finish the rest and redo number 3 hopefully.
Thanks for a most wonderful morning out on the lake!

Good time at the moment to do the Sand Island series as there are no campers on the islands. Perhaps they've been shoo-ed off by the powers that be. There are still a few picnickers though. Early morning is the best time before the summer NE breeze comes in, usually late morning and, typically, strengthens in the afternoon.
We started our Sand Islands PT paddling over from the boat ramp at the end of Naru road, collecting #8 first. A quick find on this nice island. Lots of people camping and playing nearby. Log wet. Sorry, but we were unable to replace or seal in a new baggie. We want to come back and spend Australia Day here Thanks Colleda for placing these caches out on these sand islands. So much fun paddling around admiring the wildlife on land and in the water.
Headed off with Grub Fred on a choppy lake to do the series and found it

A day out with Yella Belly who was kind enough to invite me on board the mighty Yella Belly 2 to cruise the lake for the Sand Island series, TFTC colleda!!
When we went to find this geocache it was jammed in the tree and we couldn't get out so could u please fix this
We were staying at Blacksmiths Caravan Park for the weekend, so we packed the canoe for a day on the water. The tide was coming in and there was a bit of a southerly blowing so we made it here in double time. One of the kids made the find on this one[^]
Thanks colleda, a great morning out on the water.

As pprass was staying a couple of days in Newcastle, we both had today free to do a spot of caching, so a plan was hatched to head out on the water and find this series...however...without access to a water craft, we were fortunate enough that the CO came to our rescue to lend us their kayaks.
After slogging it out against the tide and choppy conditions to get to no. 8 in the series, the journey back was much more easy going. Cruising along, we started to get a few light drops on us and I wondered how long it would be before it started to really open up.

Found at 11:03 AM GAFF5 in the company of Marcus Vitruvius. We were fortunate to have had a chat with Colleda the previous day when doing their Victory Bay cache and an offer was made that we could use their kayaks to do this PT series - and rubber booties would be thrown in as well! We jumped at the offer of course [^]
The only problem was that we had to provide our own muscle power , which on a calm and still day would not be an issue, but today the weather had changed and there was a bit of a breeze and the tide was flowing quite strongly - the wrong way of course
Now that was such a pleasure to paddle from No. 8 to here. The tide was flowing our way and the wind was behind us. Without any effort we were doing 7 kms p/h - ahhhh! Bliss!
Thanks colleda.

1500 GAFF1 I had come down from Taree (with Manning Valley Mountain Biker) to specifically get #2 and #7 in the Sand Islands Paddle Trail, as I am wanting to fill up part of my Difficulty/Terrain grid; (13 to go), and the others were a definite BONUS!
What a great weekend! With a couple of Events yesterday it is nice to get out and test the Terrain ratings on someone elses caches.
While the Terrains were discussed at the Events I was wanting check it out for myself, as I have done a few daring things in my time, before caching.
I personally think the T4 is fair enough, as I would be prepared to wade / swim over to get this one. (Most of the others are a different story).
Found cache (after a minor search) dry and the log a bit crumpled
Brought through for mileage: 3 Bros, Aust Light Houses, B 2 B ingot, I Bashed at MidWest 2007, Iconic Bridges, cache critters Baa, Neigh Neddy, and Oink, and trackable shirt.
TFT Paddle Series Colleda - looks like I will be back with Manning Area Pathfinders down the track.

When you are offered a lift and the use of an inflatable canoe I don't refuse. I had been wondering how I could raise the average a touch, as the close ones at home (Taree) I have already cycled to.
A beautiful afternoon, a short paddle (had to be very careful of the sharp things in the water tho), and we soon found the cache.

Great Series thanks for the oppertunity to Kayak around thes beautiful islands, Great coord's spot on, TFTC
Woah! , what a great little trail for us paddlers ! Spotted these just a few days ago when passing by on my way to work.
I never even knew these islands existed, I kept looking for Gilligan, The Skipper, or more importantly Ginger , but had no luck there. Plenty of signs on most of the islands that camping is going on, and littering [:(!] Watch out for broken bottles!!!
All hides are right on for accuracy, and you'll need about 4hrs to complete this trail in comfort. I found you can take a few shortcuts by simply going straight over a few of the islands instead of around them in annoying shallows .
I did this trail in reverse order and an incoming tide, the wind almost helped me on my return to the boat ramp.
All in all a most enjoyable day out, with huge rainstorms to the south threatening all afternoon, a multitude of birdlife, and Flora, not to mention huge tri-hulled cats, and even one I could paddle under
Only one minor gripe, the speeding boat traffic....so take your kayak skirts, towel, and change of clothes

Our first time on this island. Nice to see pied oystercatchers, and to know that we weren't there in their nesting season (Sept - Jan) and so not disturbing them!
Thoroughly enjoyed this PT series - well done, colleda, for putting it together.
