#23123 @1015Day 2 of an 8 day trip: Drive from Canberra to Melbourne, then by air to Flinders Island, Launceston, King Island, and back to Melbourne, then drive back home to Canberra. Today, I was targeting a few old caches. Cache soon found thanks to the hint. TFTC.
I recently found out that my company offers a "Wellness Day" program, which essentially gives each employee an extra annual leave day to specifically take a day off for a mental health break. Well I also found out that if I didn't take mine by the end of November, that I would forfeit it. So I desperately started planning when I could take my mental health day and with the snuggle muggle attending a conference until late tonight, today seemed to be the perfect day to do so.So with an entire free day and night I figured I should take full advantage of it and attempt to find some caches that were a bit further out of my normal caching radius. Well this year I have been actively attempting to fill in some missing months for my AUSMER and with this cache being the only active cache in Victoria that was hidden in March 2001, I decided I had to make it the target for today. So I decided to get up extra early and hit the road. Well my morning adventures had me first making a stop at [tonymid's](https://www.geocaching.com/p/?guid=0121b579-13ef-4f76-b6c8-f06120bf75f5&wid=7f20cee6-7ec2-4080-b33a-45fb7928decb&ds=2) [Victorian High Country (GC372)](https://www.geocaching.com/geocache/GC372?luid=6c56a906-feb2-414e-ba57-e964dca42b80), in order to pick up another oldie cache, that one hidden in February 2001. So after making a quick find there it was back in the geomobile to make another long drive over to this one.The weather was absolutely perfect today. Nice and sunny, without a cloud in the sky and so it made for a beautiful drive. Well that is until I turned on to Billy Goat Bend Road and the bitumen road turned to dirt and rocks. Parts of the road was really quite rough, and although I could have probably done the entire drive in 2WD, I did indeed engage 4WD on a couple of the steeper parts of the trail. However, I just went slow and tried my best to avoid the larger rocks and branches that littered my path. Until I eventually made it to the Billy Goat Bend camp site.Once there I parked the geomobile and continued on to GZ by foot. It was a bit of a rough walk, albeit short, as the vegetation in the are was quite overgrown. However, it wasn't too long before I eventually was able to find this historic cache. With this find another month completed and one more step closer to completing my AUSMER!It is always fun to find a cache, but it is truely an amazing feeling to be able to find a cache that was hidden 20+ years ago. It is almost like taking a step back in time and seeing what the game was like in the early days. That reason alone would earn this cache a favourite point. Unfortunately I am on a significant backlog of owed favourite points, but as soon as I earn another one, I will be sure to come back and give this cache a well deserved favourite point. So a huge thanks goes to [the Nomads](https://www.geocaching.com/p/?guid=16d052bc-8e90-4546-b4fa-1006c6b1f8ef&wid=b2c69374-8806-4c87-b2d5-037ea9dae103&ds=2) for keeping this cache alive for all these years for me to find today. TFTC.**Cache Maintenance Status:**The cache container was in ok shape, but the lid has a crack in it, leaving it exposed to the elements. Luckily the inner cache container was in good shape and all of it's inner contents were nice and dry. The logbook was also clean with plenty of room for future cache finders to sign.*P.S. I ended up leaving my FTF pathtag in the container for the [COs](https://www.geocaching.com/p/?guid=16d052bc-8e90-4546-b4fa-1006c6b1f8ef&wid=b2c69374-8806-4c87-b2d5-037ea9dae103&ds=2) or next finder to have and I know that this cache was first found almost ten years before I even started caching and so it makes no sense for me to leave an FTF pathtag. However, it was the only pathtag I had on me and I felt it would be a disservice to not leave something in this amazingly historic cache.*
What a brilliant place to find & drive to. It fills an old space on my monthly placement chart. A favourite from me & I have left a trackable for the next finder as a reward. Thanks for maintaining this old treasure.
A day to myself before catching up for a girls weekend away. Up early in Bairnsdale to target some chosen caches for the day before heading to Metung. A real pleasure to find this golden oldie. The day was perfect for a cruise into the bush to this fabulous spot. Cache easily found, dry and container solid. Thanks to the Nomads Ray and Maya for being pioneers in geocaching and bringing me to this lovely spot. Regards kbucky
One of my primary aims for this trip was to find this cache to fill a gap in my Ausmer grid. I live at the far end of Gippsland. So near and yet so far! The Driver was a bit wary of doing it after reading reports of the trip in and out. I think hes getting more cautious in his old age! Hes not even 60 yet! The weather had been fine for a week or more, so I expected the road to be dry and it was. We took Wallers Road to Park Road before getting onto Billy Goats Bend Road and then the camping/picnic area. For a bush picnic area it was well appointed including toilets. It was a bit of a challenge getting to the cache as there was shoulder height rushes and other vegetation every way we turned. After finding the cache we wandered down to the lookout and enjoyed the view, being grateful we didnt have to get down to the river to find the cache! On our way back to Bairnsdale the rain started. Thank goodness we found this cache this morning before the predicted rain arrived.
Hi Nomads, We found your 1.5 1.5 Small Traditional The Billy Goat's Gruff on 1/4/2024.Find 3019 for BFMC.We attempted this cache around Xmas when visiting family in Paynesville, but not long after turning off sealed road. We decided to pull the pin.Fast forward a few months and I had investigated alternate paths to the campground and discovered that google maps took a smarter route than apple maps, so we set off again. Our pseudo-4WD was able to navigate this route without too many issues and this time we were able to fill another JASMER hole, only 7 left to fill Ausmer and 11 for Jasmer.
With Wombatwandering on our trip of Melbourne to Canberra for the Mega via Gippsland. I needed this for my Jasmer and as the previous find had taken 4 hours longer to do, we were running very late. So we decided to drive here and stay the night. My first experience of free camping and it was great. A lovely warm evening unlike the freezing one yesterday in Licola and my bed in the tent was perfect to rest after a very stressful road up and back to the high country. The road to here was also a challenge but George, my 23 year old 2wd car make light work of it. The GZ is very overgrown now, so I put my gum boots on for safety.
Out caching with ConnieandRick ahead of the Canberra Mega and this was a Jasmer filler needed by C&R. Bought dinner supplies in Maffra and then subjected George the car to more rough roads. After a glorious time in Licola last night (not), I was happy to break the tents out and camp here. Nice spot, lovely view of the Mitchell, and were joined by a super friendly possum at dinner. Up early the next morning and ConnieandRick dived into the long grass for the cache while I supervised with the snake bite kit at the ready. Im not sure Ive converted ConnieandRick to the joys of camping but I think I proved its better than Licola. Thanks for the cache and thanks to TheSmiths for the camping gear bc geoson had mine.
Wonderful to find this old cache. We were heading up the Dario High Plains Rd and diverted into here. TFTC
It was a great cache thank for the cache I found it with the welder and heymissjo
Ahh a nice spot to stretch my legs and feet. We were on our way to our holiday destination lakes entrance. Heymissjo and The Welder told everyone who was coming on the holiday that we had to get this cache. Thx for the cache a favourite point from me.Got it with Heymissjo,The Welder and Ge0_Ninja.
#1745This has been on The Welder and my target list for many years and finally with a family holiday trip planned for Lakes Entrance this cache is finally possible! We have been working in our Jasmer for years and although I have ten-fifteen to go, this is the second last one The Welder needs so its extra exciting, particularly with two mini Welders, Ge0Bug and Ge0_Ninja along for the ride! Thanks so much for hiding and maintaining this cache. ----------------------------------------------------------Voting is also now open for the 2022 Victorian Cache of the Year Awards. target cache of the holiday due to it's age. A wet walk to gz since the grass was knee to in places waist height and very wet after the recent rains and forecast 20 mm in the next few days with thunder storms. At least the light fog has lifted. Put a new container regular with a small inside to keep this old 2001 active.
Left with Mogni the day before Christmas to go down to Mount Gambier for Christmas Day. Then on the 27th left for Victoria. Plan A was to go to the Ottway Rangers, complete the Geo tour in Ballarat and then head to Geelong and take the Queenscliff ferry over to Sorrento then grabbing new LGA's on route to almost the New South Wales/Victoria border and the old 2001 cache near there. Also attending a community day event, a CITO and a couple of other events as well. Then head in to the high country and come back to SA in 11 days. Things didn't go to plan. Turns out that one of my almost new tyres was defective ( side wall blown out ) and blew in the ottway ranges on a narrow road in the rainforest, Drove to Melton to stay overnight and get a new tyre there, tyre machine broken and the other 5 tyre companies not open so off to geelong for a new tyre ( and some caches on the way and in geelong ) . The event we where going to attend in geelong didn't turn out, he was late by ALOT to his own event. Then to ballarat to same day since we had a b&b booked for the next few nights. Planned on getting the ferry at 1200 and ended up on the 400 pm ferry but we did attend a event and CITO in geelong. Then we drive into the rear end of a thunder storm with forecast 20 mm dropping for the next few days. Cancel the high country and change targets to letterbox D/T for fizzy grid only using letterboxes and same wirh the multi fizzy grid plus fizzy grid only using victorian caches plus any challenge caches we where near. Plus getting a few more victorian 2001 caches. And finally any caches that had 40 more more favourite points. Only got soaked to the bone for a couple of days but the water on the tracks was noticeable. On the return home tried to get the rest of the missing LGA's around the Melbourne CBD i missed in the last mega. Still a fun trip was had if not the planned one.

Out on a Christmas break with sir_spectre, exploring southern Victoria grabbing lots of smilies, finding caches in LGA's and of course signing a few more challenges.

Unfortunately the logs was very damp! Great to see such an old cache in action.
*Found on the 4 Dec 2022 @ 12:32 pm.*
*Cache find # 13734.*
This one has been on my to do list for some time now as it is a very early placement and it is a very nice area.
I tried to get here in January after picking up Lair but the road to this one was closed.
So now I am back and after attending the nearby event, a few of us headed for this one.
We arrived at GZ and the cache was found but it wasn't as I imagined and the logbook was absolutely soaked so in the end it was a bit of a let down, but on the bright side it still is a very early cache placement found.
**Thanks to Nomads for placing this cache.**

I was interested in the event happening at the Den of Nargun, as its a place that has always intrigued me but just never went. As such I left home early to collect a few caches that interested me and some that I needed for some challenges. Didn't get the whole list, but had time to collect a few others after the event
After the event, I was able to hitch a lift with SteMicMitSar with some other geocachers to come to this oldie. A lot of talk mentioned this one required for their AUSMER, but I had already found a cache hidden in this ones month. But I still wanted this historical geocache for its owner history.

Following our Geo discussions by the den a group of us drove to this golden oldie. Upon finding the cache we literally engraved our names into the moist log book.,
I was heading way out east on a camping adventure and noticed this AUSMER cache only about 20mins from the campground on the way in. It’s one of the few caches I need to fill my grid so it was a must do.
I noticed that Park Rd was still closed due to track damage, but Parks Vic advised that the campground and hence the cache can still be accessed via Billy Goat Bend track. Great I thought. As I was traveling on my own I googled the track to see if I could get any info on it. That’s when I came across a plethora of reviews and videos including a 4WD channel reviewing the track stating it was not to be taken lightly, requiring 4WD low, diff lock and experience driving. Hmmm, maybe I shouldn’t attempt this while on my own. I soon discovered that I was looking at Billy Goat Bluff track…. A completely different track (although in the same general area) to Billy Goat BEND track. Phew! As it turns out Billy Goat Bend track is nothing like that and was a relatively easy drive. I arrived at the small campground and set about searching for the cache.
Not to long after I had the cache in hand! Woo Hoo another AUSMER gap closed! Unfortunately the cache was full of water so I emptied it and tried to dry the log before signing it.
Thanks Nomads for placing this gamepiece in the wild for us to find.

This one has been on my to do list for so long and today I finally made the trip out to this area to have a look, after finding Lair close by I then went to go to this one but Parks Vic had closed Park road near the start at Wallers road due to public safety, what a bugger, hopefully they sort out the road so I can revisit the area again.
With restrictions lifted, we teamed up with Crustyvarmint, and his muggle friend Keith for a few days caching in the Gippsland area. Crusty had a list……..a very long list of caches we were targeting, this old timer being a priority.
It was a slow drive along the track, and a little too rugged for Keith’s van, so we left him behind:) After a short walk, we had our names in this historical logbook, then headed off to admire these magnificent views.
Thank you Ray and Maya (Nomads) for keeping this cache in the game.

With the easing of covid restrictions, allowing us city slickers into the regional areas again, I teamed up with Knight_shift, and my muggle mate Keith, to visit this site on our first excursion away from home.
It is the final requirement for my Ausmer Challenge, and I had read about the marvellous views, so was looking forward to spending the night at the camp site. Unfortunately, Keith's campervan was too large to negotiate the track in, with the ruts being a major issue, so the overnight stop wasn't possible.
However, Team Knightvarmint made it to GZ, and we soon had the log signed, and smiles all around. The view alone from nearby, is deserving of this favourite point.
Thank you Ray and Maya. A great commitment on your part to keep this historic cache running for our enjoyment.

Went for a drive while being camped at Angusvale, wasn’t expecting to find a geo, but youngest grand daughter was on the ball, fantastic views, love the area. TFTF!
Little niece found this one by accident! It was quite a surprise! Thanks, pretty spot!
Yey, so happy to get this cache.
We have based our 4 day Australia Day Long weekend trip to Gippsland, from our home in the Macedon Ranges on this cache.
We now only have a few more from 2001 in SA to gather to sign off for our AUSMER challenge.
Thanks so much for keeping this almost 20 yr old cache in play.
Mr Riddell says that on the 10th March 2021 this cache deserves an amino box to celebrate!!
( sorry we didn’t bring one!)
Now we are off to the lookout and Abaddon for more adventures.

Today was the day we finally had an opportunity to visit this one. Two reasons it is an old cache and the owners are friends responsible for us playing this game. We enjoyed the drive from Bairnsdale where we are spending the week and we found the cache quickly. We then checked out the view from the nearby lookout. What a great view. We took the opportunity to do another nearby before takin a different route back to camp. Thanks Ray and Maya talk to you again soon.
Since this is one of the oldest caches in Victoria, we tried to get up to find it in early February 2020while we were nearby, however the Mitchell River National Park was closed due to the horrific summer fires Victoria had been experiencing. Not long after, the Coovid-19 restrictions started and there was no more tourist travel and no more geocaching .
This week regional Victoria has finally been allowed unrestricted travel and we decided to come out for the day, see some different scenery and finally, finally claim this classic cache!
Thanks for find #1758

I had a great time finding your cache At first I was worried to get there because my car is only SUV, when I drove and looks ok to me till about 700m I have to stopped because of water paddock on middle of the road so I decide to walk there.
fav from me.
Ray and Maya (Nomads), thank you so much for placing it.

An oldie that comes up on Ausmer/Jasmer searches so I took advantage of a weekend away to grab the find. The amphitheatre view is worth the drive.
Planned to find this cache today but discovered the Mitchel River National Park is currently closed due to the fires.
This was one of my targets for 2019 for the one month I needed to complete the Ausmer challenge. I never got down this way but luckily on the first day of the New Year I was able to take a trip out here. I couldn't head further into East Gippsland due to the bushfires but I kept a close eye on the warnings and it was safe in this area. It was still an eerie feeling with haze around and the smell of the fires further away. The last few kms were on dirt roads but I seemed to be the only one out here today. Once I parked up it was a short walk and I was able to make the find here without too much trouble. Took nothing, left nothing, signed log and visited some trackables. Thanks for the cache Ray and Maya (Nomads). A favourite point for keeping this historic cache going.
On our road trip from Melbourne to Sydney, this was one of the caches I had spotted as potential caches almost along the route. Today we drove from Warragul to Paynesville, and since that is not a very long drive, we had time to take the 1 hour detour for this cache. My wife wasn't super happy with the road conditions the last 20 minutes to the cache, but a 4WD SUV did a good job.
A the parking area, there was no one else, and I walked the last 50 minutes to the cache.
The cache was easy to find, and around it I could also find wombat droppings. There wasn't much animals to see around the cache, but on our way back we saw a kangaroo (don't know the exact species) jumping over the road. Thank you very much for the cache and greetings form Norway!

SO I originally wrote something like FLTF of Found FLTF which of course means Full Log to Follow. I was full of good intentions but sadly life illness, children, work and all the rest of it took over and I didn't get back to write a decent log. So here I am apologising, SORRY! Thank you though for supplying us with a cache to 'find' or 'do' it's much appreciated.
Sorry for the crappy log hopefully the next time our paths cross I'll have more time on my hands and I'll be writing better ones!

So we have been working on the Ausmer Challenge for literally a few years now, with a few holidays providing opportunities for finding old caches, including a trip to Adelaide! So eventually we had whittled our list down to one month left - March 2001. We had a choice of 3 caches, 1 in Tasmania, 1 in NSW and this one ... then we got an invitation to an engagement party in Fernbank - excellent!!! However wouldn’t you know the weekend was sooooo busy and we were staying with friends and there was no time to go out and get this cache !! Bother.... well then the wedding invitation came, wedding in Sale, reception in Maffra ....fantastic!!!! But again staying with friends, there was no opportunity to find the time needed to drive out to the cache!!! Agghhhhh! Ok roll on our own wedding anniversary where we take turns to choose the destination and this year it was my turn ... excellent.... now usually I choose a beach location as it can be very warm in October (it was 36 deg in Melbourne on Thursday!) but that would be too far away from this cache so I found a nice little cottage in Stratford. Roll on to today and we set off following the car gps. When we arrived at the entrance to the park, we thought it must not be the right one as there was a road a bit further on called Billy Goat Gruff Bend Rd, so we headed there. Welllll let me tell you, about 500 m on that road was enough to know it wasn’t going to be a pleasant journey (read terrifying lol) on that one so we turned back and went back to the other entrance to Mitchell River National Park...... yes that one was much better although still rough in parts. We finally arrived at the car park and headed off to find the cache. It was a fairly easy find and we high fived after signing it!!! Lol Yeehah, Ausmer Challenge done!!! We headed to the Ampitheatre Lookout which was gorgeous! We then headed to the Den of Nargun but GMelb wasn’t up to the steep walk to any of the caches there so we headed back to the holiday house finding other caches on the way.
TFTC Nomads, a Fave point from us for the journey of the challenge and the gorgeous views at the nearby Ampitheatre lookout - GJMMelb

The weather was ideal to take the kids out to visit Billy Goat Bend and to find this cache. Littlies snoozed in the car with geodad while geomum made the quick find. Signed log, which showed it had last been found just yesterday, and replaced back in its spot. TFTC
This trip is the....
Mad Mega/AUSmer 9x9 Mission....
I need 9 hidden month caches to complete the AUSmer challenges and 9 D/Ts to finish my fizzy grid but on this trip, priority is going to the AUSmers.
It was a quick 4013 km trip from Brisbane to the Mega in Wooloongong.
5 states in 5 days (okay, one was a territory) to finish the AUSmer and a few other challenges....
Went through Qld, NSW, Victoria, a loop into South Australia then all the way back across to eastern Victoria for the last AUSmer cache. From there I turned north and went up through the A.C.T. and then to the Mega in Wooloongong. Phew!
This cache....
which CHALLENGE/ WHY?
AUSmer challenges
oldies challenges
This is the last of the oldie caches that I needed to qualify for a variety of AUSmer challenges so I was really sweating on it being here and that I could get my car into it. Had checked out wikicamps and got the heebie geebies from one of the posts about the road conditions in, so decided to leave this one until morning as things always lk better then.
Pulled up for the night in a nice little place called Lindenow about 20 kms away and in the morning I waited for the general store to open as lovely warm smells were emanating from within and it were a mighty cold morning outside! Grabbed a coffee and toasted sandwich for breakfast and a piece of home made cake for later on and got on my way after stopping to look at their War Memorial.
There was mist in the lower areas and also on the drive up which really added something to the landscape without hindering visibility. Got on the right track first time so the drive in was good and I pulled up in the parking area 50m from GZ.
Now for the moment of truth- was I going to be able to find this important qualifying cache?? This wee cache sure was carrying a large burden of hope this morning!!
Carefully I made my way down to GZ and in less than ten minutes I had it in my hands and was so excited that I dropped it a few times! Luckily it was tough, and that I was on my own up here as the the achievement was just too big to contain and I was laughing and crying all at once in between trying to happy dance on the uneven ground.
With a shaking hand I scratched my name into the log book and took some happy snaps. In the container was a pretty polished stone and I decided I'd like that as a souvenir so I left a path tag in its place before putting it back in its hide. I then went on the short walk to the lookout to enjoy the magnificent views over the Mitchell River and the Ampitheatre. What a great morning this has been!
Of course this one gets a favourite point and not just for completing my AUSmer grid. This is a really nice part of the world to be travelling through even before getting to the views at the lookout and well worth the effort to get up here.
Thank you to Ray and Maya for keeping this golden oldie going, I really enjoyed this one!
Today we found The Billy Goat's Gruff on our travels. This cache was target of the day chasing an old date. Having signed the log we went off to check out the view. Saw a large lace monitor on the way, he saw us too and climbed the nearest tree

Found with sharkiefan while heading east on a "car appreciation day" to grab a handfull of caches to mark off maps in the UBD challenge.
But this one was to help out with another challenge. and also seeing it was such an old cache we just had to go the extra ks.
took a couple of wrong turns and ended up on a 4x4 track but thakfully with the track being dry i managed to get to GZ in the 2wd triton.

Found with FUF009 while heading to Mallacoota on a huge day trip to add a cache find to some map pages for a challenge.
This one satisfies another challenge for date placed.
It was an interesting drive in, because we took the wrong track and it was almost a 4wd track but we did ok with a 2wd Ute.
Pretty quiet out here today. Tftc

This cache was right at camp in a beautiful spot which I hope to come back to again. We did have a little trouble getting the two wheel drive vehicle up the hill but with some assistance of two man push up the hill we made it through to the camp and were able to log this cache. The cache was easy to find and was in great condition. TFTC

I hadn't intended on finding this particular cache for my placed month calendar, rather I was aiming at a virtual in Tasmania instead. However given the planned road trip over to the west of the state and into Mt. Gambier had to be postponed because who likes caching in the constant rain this particular cache came back into play.
So after a long, long drive and a short walk the cache was found and duties done by myself and nirgalagrin. Now for some lunch and planning for an eventual finding of a cache placed in Feb '01.
Thanks for placing and keeping this one going, Ray and Maya.
A road trip east instead of west! nirgalagrin and I had been planning a trip out over to Mt. Gambier but given the forecast of rain, rain and more rain all through the weekend we scrambled to replan the trip aiming for the other side of the state. As it happened we went a little further than just the border and explored the NSW south-eastern coast. Thanks to all the cache owners for placing and maintaining the caches found along the way.

Road trip!
We'd meticulously planned a trip in the opposite direction to fill a few gaps on a variety of challenges, but with the weather forecast to be reminiscent of an Activities Week tour of all the wet holes in the southwest of the state when I was in high school, a mad scramble ensued to come up with a scheme to complement those goals towards the eastern border instead.
This cache, on the to-do list for what seems forever, suddenly became the top priority for the weekend.
So after a long morning's drive, and a short walk, here we are. And so, I've managed to find a cache placed in every month back to this one in March, 2001.
Ray and Maya (Nomads), thanks for placing and maintaining this cache, which was in good nick this afternoon, for such a long time.
Now, I think leafotwind and I will enjoy a late lunch to celebrate, then press on to the next challenge.

We were out this way for a Baptism, so I consulted the map fpr any potential AUSMER/JASMER fillers and this one came up. Lovely.
We were actually driving a "loaner" after an Audi pushed our car into a Porsche at the traffic lights(!) , so we were going to turn around should the road get too bad, but fortunately we are adventuros and the car made it okay.
Found the hide after a bit of scrambling and then found a much easier and more direct route out. Always the way! TFTC. TNSL
As we left we encountered two other cars, so maybe some more customers?

We now know why it's called The Billy Goat's road. Pleased that it was dry weather to drive here in our car as it had very low clearance. My 4W drive would have been better today.
A beautiful spot once we arrived and my heart slowed down. Tag along made coffee at the lovely picnic area while I sought the cache. It looked like somebody had replaced the logbook for you. The other more damp pages were still there though. Perfect clue meant for and easy discovery.

A very late night decision ended in Brodie, muggle partner and I driving from Shepparton to Bairnsdale yesterday Aah the things we do for geocaching!
I'd downloaded pocket queries into GSAK, drawn up my polygon based on Whereis.com's route, refreshed all of the caches within the polygon and then loaded the GPSr [^] We were set! [^]
Leaving at 6am, the Nuvi in Harry suddenly decided that we were NOT going to Bairnsdale via the freeway and Melbourne but that we WERE going to Bairnsdale via the Great Alpine Road [?] Amazingly we saw snow and snow skiers then had 32 degree heat and masses of dusty windy gales all in the one day on Saturday, the day of the 2 Months to the event in Alexandra - Bairnsdale event [?]
Then Sunday was more windy gales, scattered rain, more windy gales and sandblasting of our eyes and bodies while finding a multi in a cemetery and a free wash as we raced back over a pedestrian boardwalk at McGlockko's Beach
I did at least get to laugh as muggle partner tried to move an echidna off of the road and learned that their spines are hard, sharp and go through windcheaters The echidna was still saved though [^]
So many caches that I just did not have time to find however Oh boy! [^] So very pleased that I finally managed to find a couple of older caches that I have been wanting to find for some years now [^] The Billy Goat's Gruff and Devil Bend are now safely claimed as found [^]
Although Devil Bend, being the last cache for the day at 11pm before the mad freeway drive back to Shepp, had it's own story as yes of course the police arrived just as we got out of Harry [^] They loved Brodie and thought his ramp to get out of Harry was great
After breath testing muggle partner and checking both his licence and Harry's rego, they wished us good luck and made to leave
Seems they weren't interested in finding a fantastic old cache as they refused to come and help us find it!
Their comment as they left was 'if we get calls in about torchlights, we'll know it's you!'
14 cache finds today on a ripper caching day! [^]
I just could not be so close to this cache and not make the detour to find it, no matter how long it added to the journey today! [^]
Found myself wondering how the Corolla would handle the track in and most of the track would have been, it might just have been the two steeper sections that would have baffled a front wheel drive, pizza cutter tyred car
Arriving near GZ there was several others cars and more passing through too No one else found the cache while we were there though which was surprising as I'd guessed it would be very busy here today.
There was very little log book left, just a few loose pages so I took the liberty of adding a new log book, hope that is OK!
Thanks for ensuring the ongoing life of this older cache so that us noob geocachers can still find it in this awesome spot [^]

After attending the event in town, it was time to gradually head towards home, but not before finding the 2001 cache in Mitchell River National Park. I decided to also grab a few drive by caches along the way.
Finally arrived at this one, some tricky spots along the road, even for a 4WD. Always like to find caches from the early days and this one is no exception. A nice eady find here.
Many thanks to Ray and Maya (Nomads) for the cache. TNLN.

So very sorry that I had forgotten to log this one. Glad my name was in another log so I could see what day it was. Thanks for the cache.
Found on a road trip to Bairnsdale with Geoturtle37, OzHockeyChick and Pinkpiggy7. We couldn't resist picking up this one while we were in the area given its ancient hidden date. The cache was a quick and easy find and we were soon on our way again. Thanks for bringing us here and thanks for the cache
I made it back just in time to see Mr Tritonz lay his hand on the cache. Thanks for keeping this one in the game Ray and Maya.

Needing this very old cache for our Ausmer month Challenge we made sure it was on the top of our priority list to do while in the Bairnsdale area for the 2 month to mega BBQ. With our 4WD making the drive into the cache a lot easier on the dirt track , we enjoyed the scenery and ambience if the bush. The cache was found easily and we soon had our team name added to the logbook.
Thanks Nomads for the cache in a great location.

Even though this was a slight diversion from our planned route to Dargo, we decided to check out the area so we could plan future trips. I'm glad we did because the views along the Mitchell River from the Amphitheatre were stunning to say the least, especially with the bright, sunny weather helping. The day-visitors areas were well maintained and, surprise, surprise, no rubbish had been left behind! I wouldn't like to camp in wet weather at the designated hikers areas because it looks to be a tad muddy underfoot.
Anyway, I'm certainly glad we made this side trip and it's certainly going to be added to my favourites list! Thanks to "Nomads" for the cache that brought us here!

In an effort to complete the Jasmer challenge I made a fairly large detour over this way while on an 11 day caching, camping, cycling, climbing, caving and kayaking trip to visit this the last Victorian cache available to help towards the challenge.
We found the cache and then headed off to the lookout to be very impressed by the view.
Thanks for bringing us and maintaining the cache which was in good condition.

Well, at long last we got this one. We finished off with the HRA Southern Cross Gold Anniversary Rally on roads nearby. They are continuing all the way to Coff Harbor. We have a Mega Event to go to. :p Anyway, an extra 1 1/2hr to go go to cache and return....they are the sacrifices we make. The dirt road in was being grade and flattened. Cache was a quick find. Notebook a bit mouldy but still could write. Pushed it a bit under cover as was very exposed. Thanks fir keeping this cache in action.
A quick find while waiting for friends before walking along the Mitchell River walking track downstream to the Den of Nargun. A sunny day with a light breeze, perfect for walking! Great view from the lookout. Cache was out in the open and the contents were wet. Unfortunately I didn't have time to dry them out. Replaced cache in its hide! TFTC

So we spend a whole day together to indicate all the caches we found together out of his list. Hope you don't mind the standard text aslazy me has to log quitea few now. At the moment Pfote and me are on a work and travel backpacking trip through the world. After I've spent a full year in Australia Pfote joined me for my second year down here. We will definitely try to collect a lot of boxes and all the special things in every state all around and right through the middle.
We used this longer weekend to drive out of the city a bit further and spend a day on Raymond Island.
After we figured out, that one day is more than enough, we decided to drive to this campground and stay for the night. This cache gave the perfect reason for the detour, as placed in March 2001, it was about to fill my second last gap in the month / year matrix post 2000.
So we made this very fun off road drive with a broken shocker and arrived just minutes before dark. We definitely were surprised, when we met a whole school class or Scout group and two families camping up here as well.
But anyways, I grabbed my torch, jump into the bushes and hoped for a quick and easy score, but was unlucky.
The next morning we started our search again, together this time. We looked here, and there, and over there, and at this tree, underneath there and.. gave up after almost fourty minutes. After breakfast I started another search but came to the conclusion, that this box might be gone. But, as one of only four in Australia, placed at this date, I wanted it, so I checked a lot of logs again and realized, that the last find was not beginning this year, but beginning 2015.. Cheeze.. This may be something to keep in mind..
I crawled around again and looked underneath everything which may have fallen down during the last fifteen months - nothing to find but dirt.
Luckily Pfote is with Telstra and surprisingly has a tiny bit of mobile internet reception here. So we contacted Ray and Maya and explained the situation. After we got a response we placed a new sistema container for them at the most accurate spot we could find.
Now the hunt can definitely go on!
TFTC and greetings from Germany.

Great spot! Items a little bit wet from recent rain I think had to rely on the location finder
Thought I would drop by and find this one as I have been here a bit lately but hadn't had the chance to look for it. The cache is in good nick, nice and dry, log has been replaced recently. Definately had to relie on the GPS putting me into the right place as it is well hidden. TNLN TFTC
Took a little while to determine which was the road in to this cache - the map on my 'phone was suggesting that the road started in the wrong direction, so I ended up at the camp-ground before having to turn around and try again. Once on the right road it was a nice drive though the bush before arriving at the picnic area. Had some lunch and then took the short walk to the lookout and enjoyed the spectacular views and then used the facilities before taking the camera back to the look out.
With that done it was time to find the cache. Walked around in the bush for a while before using the clue to help find the cache, struck me as a pretty random place to hide the cache in what appears to be a moderately remote location. Thanks for placing a cache here and brining me to this lovely spot that I'd not have visited otherwise.

MuggleWife is off for a weekend away with the girls so what else is there to do but go caching.
Found the cache open and spread around the area, I suspect its getting disturbed by animals, maybe an Echidna. Replaced the soaking unsigned log with a new one and cleaned the contents up and reinstated to cache.
What a magic location, this speaks volumes when you consider "why are you bringing people here...". I came for a Jasmer month but I'm glad I came. Enjoyed the view from the lookout including watching a group of rafters on the river coming through the rapids.
Thanks for bringing me here Nomads
Retrieved TB to move on to new location.

Well I started at the carpark at den of Nargen then worked out I could drive a lot closer so off I went .....up hill....down dale..... and not a billy goat to be found.....glad I had the 4WD.
This was my number 100 cache. So I picked this one to be number 100 because of it's age. This cache is on the top of my list as the oldest cache placed. So it has been a must do for along time.
All Ok with cache nice dry log book but container had a little water inside so I gave it a dry and replaced goodies and added a Trackable.

Wow! It's been a while since this cache has seen a visit! We camped out here, our second night in the Mitchell River NP, along with many possums. The next morning, took a fantastic walk along the trails, saw a large goanna, and then trapsed through the woods to find this cache. Cache is good shape, picked up Recorder TB, and added a couple of trades. Loved my time in near the Mitchell, a quiet little gem!
This has been a long time coming hunting down this cache. Today armed with a new geocaching weapon it was easy pickings. The road in to the hide has suffered a little from the recent heavy rain but is still ok for 2wd cars. The river was looking mighty fine for a bit of kayaking. Plenty of whitewater coming through the ampitheater. This is quite an old cache and it is good to see it has lasted so long. Being 50mts off into the scrub has probably helped its survival. Only log in the container and I didnt have much with me either. Left slinky, pencil, pathtag and a TB. Hopfully the next cacher might toss a few things in. Thanks Nomads for placing a hide here. Finally off my list.
Found whilst on an overnight bushwalk from Angusvale to the Den of Nargun with the Bushrangers Womens Walking Group. Had an enjoyable camp at Billy Goats Bend. The Mitchell is looking so good, and many spectacular views as we followed the walking track. Easy find. The cache has no swaps in it, and unfortunately we didn't have any swaps as we were pack carrying. May need a replenishment of goodies.

Hidden away! Found on o'night bush walk with geo-twin and Bushrangers women's walking club TFTC
Wow what a great place to visit.
We all came down and did the 8 km walk along the river. I really felt it that night. The sun was shinning brightly and the sweat flowed a lot.
Found the cache with a friend.
Thank you Nomads for the adventure....
Just before we headed into the bush another friend spotted a Red Belly black.... so we were very cautious... lol

Travelling past today and ecided to grab the trackables to move along. New log book in good order but other contents rather 'manky'!
2011-08-05 08:05 I walked in via the Mitchell River walking track from the Den of Nargun the previous afternoon and camped overnight at the nearby camp site. I decided to save the find for morning after setting up camp and cooking dinner on sundown. So this morning, with the sun rising and having packed up camp I made the 50m dash for the cache It was a nice easy find. It looks like the cache could do with a good cleanup. Some of the contents has rusted and made of bit of a mess. Signed the log and dropped off some GCs and TBs. TFTC.
what a great spot for camping
bit of a shame that you can't really get to the river
nice to have toilets close by
shame that the cache really needs to be emptied and restocked
if the cache owner didn't want the old log books it would be good if they could be thrown out, I dont think anything in there is salvageable except the new log book but with everything else in there it wont last long.

Our last cache before heading on to Dargo. We decided to have lunch here before tackling GZ. There were a few Muggles around ( 2 lots of campers, camping over the Easter weekend). In the end, they weren't a problem.
After a quick 10 minute search, we found the cache. Contents are still very wet, except for the new logbook. But cache has been hidden well. Signed new, dry log.
T: pencil sharpener.
L: plastic cockroach.

Found after a very frustrating search with difficult GPS readings. The container was full of water with all the contents soaked through. The water was drained from every bag etc. The log books were mush and not able to be written in so we wrote in a new log book supplied by us and left it in a new ziplock bag hoping it would stay dry for a while. It was raining while we visited so unfortunatly were unable to dry anything out. Rescued the TB. This locality has great views, and well maintained picnic, camping and toilet facilities. TFTC
We fossicked around the marked spot for about twenty minutes not able to find it. Diddums.
Grabed this one with Geo junior after the rest of the Geo family decided they were still recovering from the hunt for the Lair.
Cache was very wet so spent a bit of time drying things out and trying to get it to a bit higher ground before the mozzies finnily drove us away!!.
Great spot, beaut views. Left Jeep TB for a bit of bush bashing!!.
