Walked the 5 Huts loop, but this was the only cache that downloaded so I finished the weekend with just a single find TNLNSL TFTC
Taking the scenic route from Canberra to Thredbo and stopping for some caching along the way. A quick find today and the log was signed and replaced as found. TFTC

Awesome piece of history! Almost unfathomable to imagine there was a small school here but I guess a lot has changed in more than a century.
Found with Baristayan late on a Saturday arvo on the way home from Yarrongabilly. Thanks!

Along with T4mmmy, oz_bean_counter and Captain Terror we are on an adventure to the Snowy's. Grabbed a couple of caches driving south on the road less travelled. Amazing views here of the homestead, and great to stretch the legs after the windy road.
Thanks Sol de lune for entertaining me at this location.

This is my third trip to Canberra this year, and day three of the trip. Today is exciting as Pprime, oz_bean_counter and I are leaving the ACT to head for Jindabyne and some Snowies action. This morning the three of us found a few geocaches, picked up T4mmmy from the airport and now heading south into New South Wales.
We chose to go the ACT route south, on the agreement we'd take the eastern route back north in a few days. This turned out to be an excellent choice as while fresh, we could enjoy this back, slower road. It's a lovely day and what I've heard about Namadgi is checking out to be true. I could spend a lot of time here, I am sure.
On our way through the area, I was long without reception, but Prime in the driver seats was in the know. Unsure if he had Telstra reception, or an offline list. But, this geocache happened. I was initially confused about which geocache we were looking for here, but eventually caught up to everyone else.
It's a nice little walk in here - stretch the legs after a decent time driving. Later I would read the description and learn about the history of the area. How wonderful that so many historic huts and schools and places are still known about. Did I mention I could spend a lot of time here? Probably just visiting all these such places.
Up at the site of the school, Prime made a quick find. I got a bit distracted looking at the remain of the school - just some stones which I thought might have been the front stairs, but were evidently the fireplace. I can imagine there must have been some cold days in this weatherboard room!
At exactly 15:00 the logbook was signed and headed back to the car. Now off to the next exciting geocache. Thanks for showing me all about this area, Sol de lune

Found this one while road tripping from Canberra to Jindabyne. Cool history here! TFTC
Accompanied ALL7, awesome drive and some caches on way.. wow very interesting about history school, but can’t see where is school area, possible collapse ,TFTC
I took the e-MTB down to the southern ACT border today for some solo caching, mostly along the Long Corner fire trail and then a detour into Westerman's and Brayshaw's huts as well. Boboyan Rd is in quite good, recently graded, condition now so a reasonably quick drive down. A great day for caching - mild, dry and no wriggly sticks to be seen (although I'm sure they were watching me).
This was a straightforward find after a short walk.
Thanks, Sol de lune.

What an amazing way to start my holidays from work. Geo-events, traveling, meeting up with friends and finding many different caches made it fun! It’s so nice to finally be able to do all these things… again. The following descriptions are my adventures between the days of 12/11/21 and 16/11/21. Each cache has been logged to the end of my adventures for the day of finding them. If you would like to read my full log, please find it on any cache I found on the 16/11/21.
Day #1: I finished work at 4pm and headed over to Wagga for the only GIFF event in NSW. Apart from the CO, I was the first to arrive at the event. It was great to finally attend a Geocaching after many months without them. All talk Geo was had by all until we were told that dinner was ready. Soon after, the popcorn was ready and the movies were on. Congratulations to all the GIFF finalists and they were all a great watch. Also, Congratulations to BMG for receiving the FTF on the event. Then it was time to head home and get ready to head to Canberra for the next few days.
Day #2: I was nearly late to my own event. O’well… It was still fun with the small group of us that turned up. We also discovered many Moveable caches before heading off to today’s main goal. This happened to be finding the ‘A’ part of the GA geo-art series as well as the lone GC caches around the area which I hadn’t found as I pasted by them. I wasn’t alone as AKM came for the walk as well. After finding all but the last two we headed our separate ways as it started raining heavier. Hopefully, it won’t be raining tomorrow so the event goes ahead but well will need to see. Also pizza for dinner tonight.
Day #3: Today’s adventures included the CCE down in Booroomba and as many of the nearby caches as possible. I didn’t do the walk to the ‘Booroomba Rocks’ but I am still able to log the event. I then headed off with a large group of others to find the nearby caches. After that, I caught a lift with Kittykatch, Joolay, isopeda and Barb2e and we headed down to the ACT boarder finding the caches along the way many caches were found and a new GCA cache placed (Gudgenby – GA25097). It was great to see some ammo cans out in the wild, even if they were slightly damaged by the fires. As we arrived back in Tharwa we had afternoon tea and headed our separate ways. Another great day and so much more to go.
TB visit on all found caches. I would like to thank all CO's of the caches I found and for allowing them to bring me and the rest of the caching community enjoyment.

I have been here before, but that was with scouts yeaaaars ago. I had just found my first cache using a GPS, my fifth cache overall and the 2nd in Australia. I wasn't aware that there was a cache here.
Always a good area to come back to. We stopped here on our way to the southern border of the ACT.

With a planned walk in Canberra postponed, we headed out on Plan B - a loop from Canberra to Cooma, Adaminaby and back home through Namadgi. After the others grabbed caches in Cooma, we headed out towards Adaminaby, and then home through Namadgi. Next find of the day. I do love the small bits of history we have scattered around the ACT. Quick find at GZ after checking a couple. Signed the log, replaced the cache as found, then headed off to the next one on the list.
Thanks Sol de Lune !!

Out With BonEm on a lovely walk to check out the pockets of interesting history in this area.
We finished our loop of the other huts in the area and crossed the fire trail to grab this hide.
Interesting history of how the school came about and how the parents had to build the school, along with housing the teacher.
Thanks SDL for the experience.

Contesta led the CBC loop bushwalk from Brayshaws Hut today which provided the opportunity to seek out several geocaches. One was clearly missing while another defeated our collective wits. This cache was a straightforward find, being in an obvious spot on the coordinates, in spite of the snow cover. Thank you to Sol de lune for installing and maintaining this cache.
Found it after walking the Settlers Track loop. Cache is in good condition. This is the first weekend this part of Namadgi has been open to the public this year. Very sad drive down through all the burnt landscape. This area is untouched by the fire
Thanks Sol de Lune
Thanks Sol de Lune
I love this location. Cache found im good order with plenty of room in the logbook. Signed DSD or Darksidedan
Appreciated the history of the site, and made note of the available walks around the area... lovely countryside, looking forward to a return visit. TFTC Sol de lune
Pretty easy find, close to the road. We didn’t have a pen on us so couldn’t sign the log.
**This Cache**
This cache was a quick find thanks to the hint as GZ was 3m away. Not much to see in at the actual side but evidence of the history with the signage and old posts. Certainly makes you think of times gone by when at this location. TFTC Sol de lune.
**Our Day**
Heading for the south of the ACT at 8am and home again at 5.30pm after a total of 19.5 km of cycling after first walking some 8 km. In total the ascent/descent was just over 800m. The cycling out to Horse Gully Hut was more demanding than we had anticipated with an ascent/descent of 420m over the 9.5km stretch.
First thing this morning we walked the Yerrabi Walking Trail, off the Boboyan Road, to enjoy the views, the geology and pick up the EarthCache. We then headed for the southern ACT boarder to collect a few caches while also exploring around Brayshaw's Hut and the Tin Dish School. From here we headed to Mount Clear Campground to ride our mountain bikes to Horse Gully Hut. On the way we also visited the Demandering Hut which is currently under major repairs with the tank and stand being recently rebuilt. The hut was out of bounds as a number of the supporting piers have rotted - see photos of the cache 'Demanding Ride'. Famished from our earlier activities we started lunch here and finished it at Horse Gully Hut as we explored the hut and its surrounds in the sunshine.
Cycling back, not far past Demandering Hut, we saw a lyre bird with it's beautiful long tail and were delighted by some of them singing to each other not far off track. Of course we saw hundreds of kangaroos and wallabies and despite their numbers they are always fun to watch. It is clear that there is a drought on with the ground soil powdery and dry despite a few water puddles from recent rain.
Back at Mount Clear camping ground we talked to a friendly gentleman camping overnite solo despite the cold. He was curious about GeoCaching and joined us in the hunt for a tricky cache before we headed home.
Another great day bites the dust and it's now time for rest and reminisce over today's activities.

Joined JohnnyBoyACT for a day of caching in the deep South in an overnighter at Mt Clear camping ground on a CBC organised hike. Arrived around 6.00pm the night before after a skippy incident free drive in. Set up tent before the light faded then joined in around the camp fire. Dinner, a chat and a few drinks as the sun set, everyone off to an early night's sleep not so long after the last drink was downed. A cloudy, cool evening, frogs busy croaking down the creek.
Up at 5.30am for an early breakfast and breaking of camp, just as the 'dingoes'(?) howled. The plan to head out on trail with JBACT on bikes while the remainder hiked a similar (for the most part) path. Right on time we treadled off around 6.15am, still cloudy, cool but with a little mist as we slowly gained some elevation.
First on the list was 'Southern Outpost' at the ACT's most Southern post. Continued up to 'Twisted Tree', and at the summit 'A CLEAR Loop'. Zooming a good 2.5 all the way down with hardly a turn of the chain was 'Frosty Hollow'.
Pulled into the well maintained Horse Gully Hut for lunch, having a quick a chat with two local riders also out for the day. After a well earned rest we continued towards the closed for renovations Demandering Hut for 'Demanding Ride', quickly followed by 'Clear to Caloola: Dinosaur Head Rock'.
Starting to get a little tired now, but the on home stretch. Had previously worked out coordinates for 'Colour in Canberra Too', landing that one without too many difficulties. Almost there now, just a few more small hills before pulling back into the at park, nabbing 'In the clear' at camping ground proper.
Sat down with JBACT for a cold drink and a chat, the hikers yet to return (as assumed it would be). Watched the Ranger arrive for toilet duties, then time to hit the road a little less travelled. Thanks passed on to JBACT for great morning, I headed South to 'Brayshaws View' and the across the road 'The Tin Dish School'. A wander around the former grounds of both, then continued along to the smelly 'It's all about soul'. Hung around there for a bit then looking at the watch decided to finish the day at the most relaxing 'A tranquil bend'.
After the easy find (took pathtag), unfolded the camp chair and plonked it at the rivers edge. Cracked the remaining R&C and enjoyed, as the description describes, a most tranquil 30 minutes listing to the frogs and birds chatter away.
109 kms later I was back home, just in time for dinner.
Thanks to CBC et all, JBACT and all the cache owners and maintainers.

We found ourselves here after an epic cache hunt and wanted to grab some caches. But after grabbing this one and almost freezing to death, it was decided that we would have to give remaining caches a miss. It was snowing and only got heavier as we made our way back to Canberra. Thanks for the cache
Heading home after caching day with the canberra cachers. We decided to take the back way home to give us a chance to pick up a few more caches, and stretch our stiff legs . Great spot for lunch. Really amazing to imagine a school out here, love the history. Area has had a burn go through but cache and GZ is all good. Tftc
As I was looking for this one and the other near Brayshaw’s hut, I heard two trees departing this world with a crackle of sticks and thundering crash onto the ground. A natural part of the hazard reduction burn nearby, which happened yesterday but is still smouldering.
Nice quick little walk to serve as a break from driving. A quickish find. TFTC.
Great day exploring and grabbing caches along the mountains between NSW and ACT with AWTYOW, Brizzle11 and the geo-gangstas. TFTC
Went for an adventurous drive spanning parts of both NSW and the ACT today with AWTYOW, Gabstar and geogangstas. Beautiful scenery and great caches to be found in the snowy mountains country. TFTC!
Gabstar found this one before I got up there... She'd gone wandering ahead of the group and got lucky. Thanks for showing us this bit of history. TFTC
After finding the cache across the road we wandered over to this one. Not much left of the school.
Appreciate the local history in your cache description... interesting stuff.
Good coords led us straight to the cache.

Successful traverse of the Settlers Track with home made Bishop's cake and icy Sangria afterwards, a solo reward of this cache. Would you believe three Muggles out of the blue? Lovely spot - thank you.
I came past here after my walk past the nearby huts. I guess I thought there might be a bit more left of the school! ...foundations, a chimney base etc, but nought but a pile of stones.

The fifth find of the day. Having done a lot of biking today, Fox in Jox and I thought we might enjoy collecting a couple of leisurely trads whilst on the way back home. We pulled off at the carpark for Brayshaw's Hut and then hit the footpad to this one first. Once in the area of GZ, the hint was able to narrow down the number of possible hides which helped our struggling GPS devices. Found after about 2 minutes of searching. Log signed and cache replaced. TFTC Sol de lune!
A great day out in the Naas Valley. After the bikeriding was over, Cankid and I began our return trip to Canberra, but not before stopping to check out the old Tin Dish School site and Brayshaw's Hut. Cache quickly found and signed. TFTC SDL
After Brayshaw's Hut So and I headed for this one and after missing the start of the trail we managed to pick it up about halfway in. From there is was an easy walk to the cache and an easy find. It would have been an experience going to school here, especially in the winter. TFTC
Another one done. Woo Hoo! I love the challenge of the geocache hunt - read the notes, decipher the cache requirements, and go searching for the hide. This is an amazing world-wide game of hide and seek. I love it! I also enjoy caching with my family, and meeting fellow cachers. It really is a small world when I read over cache logs. **Thanks go to Sol de lune** for placing this cache and maintaining it. It's a great contribution to the Geocaching community and much appreciated.
I enjoyed finding this one at 6:45:33 PM with Jackson Lightning and geo-family on our tour the area.

Our current visit to Australia had been in the planning for over a year with the very significant help and advice from friends who live in Melbourne. The original plan was for a 2 month visit, but as things progressed we just couldn't help extending our trip to the full 90 days allowed on our visas - after all it's a big country and so much to see and do, especially with our favourite pastimes being birding, hiking and of course geocaching! Our journey started with our arrival at Perth airport followed by a day cycling around Rottnest Island before travelling on to Adelaide where we met up with our friends. We then continued on to spend some time on Kangaroo Island, before heading to Melbourne via Goolwa, Strathalbyn, Coorong, Mount Gambier, Cape Bridgewater, the Grampians National Park, Port Campbell, Cape Otway and Lorne, cramming in as much as possible on route. The second leg of our journey was a fabulous 9 days in Tasmania. Having then returned to Melbourne we set off on the third leg of our journey, which is to Sydney via Wilson’s Promontory, Lakes Entrance, Mallacoota, Pambula Beach, Thredbo, Canberra (where we are heading to at present) and Fitzroy Falls. After a visit to Sydney we will travel on to the Gold Coast, then after spending a few days in the nearby mountainous birding hotspots, followed by an overnight trip to Fraser Island, we will fly from Brisbane to Cairns, visiting yet more good birding sites. We will then drive up to Cape Tribulation before heading back south again to Port Douglas and a day out on the Great Barrier Reef. We then return to Cairns for the flight to Alice Springs, where we will hire a 4x4 camper and set off for a week on the circuit to and from Kings Canyon and Ayers Rock. We then fly to Darwin from where we will spend the last two weeks of our holiday making our way to Broome via Kakadu, Cooinda, Katherine Gorge, Kununarra, Lake Argyle, Emma Gorge, the Bungle Bungle’s and Fitzroy Crossing. Our last two nights in Australia will be spent in Broome before we fly back to Perth, from where we will connect with the flight all the way back home to Zimbabwe via South Africa. We already know we can't wait to return!
A nice quick find at Ground Zero. Thanks so much for the cache and for bringing us to this interesting site.

Having chased down a windmill from Brisbane to Canberra, we decided we could not leave the area without a few more trophies!
Interesting spot - both the school and the hut across the road. Well worth the visit.

We initially missed the track but soon found our way back onto it. A short stroll and the cache was quickly spotted.

A short hot walk saw me finding this one pretty easily, getting very hot now as the day wears onwards.
Seeing a couple of caches either side of the road we parked and head over.
The Tin Dish School was first and we spotted the trail and made our way up to GZ. A quick search followed and the find made. We completed the signing duties and re hid. TFTC.
It was then back over the road after looking at the old hut to Brayshaws View. A bit of a look around and the cache was soon found. We completed the signing duties and re hid. TFTC.

It was a picture perfect Spring day in Canberra and a good solid walk in Namadgi was in order. I mapped out the 28 kilometre route suggested by keswick kid (on the GC4X0GQ Kids at home(stead) 1 listing) and it was a great way to spend the day. The country out here is just gorgeous and the fire trails made for good, easy walking. Very satisfying, if pretty tiring by the end (especially once I added in Shanahan's Mountain, just before sundown).
The only problems with the trails was along parts of Bullocks FT and Waterholes FT where there was lots of water about, meaning at times I had to walk in the grass beside the trail. I figured water, long grass and a warm sunny day was a bad combination, but luckily I only had to dodge around one snake (a red-bellied black, I think - the front section was hidden in the grass). Otherwise, all was great and each of the huts, homestead sites and school site were well worth visiting.
A nice, straight forward find (but the hint did help). An intriguing spot. Even though there is not much left of the school, it is just enough to help focus the imagination on what things must have been like for those kids and teachers, especially in the depths of winter. TFTC and for leading me here

After a nearby family picnic, we ventured across to the Settlers Track and walked the shorter loop of 6.5 kms (2 hours in total: with 3 kids in tow, could probably make it in 1 hour un-encumbered): we had wanted to check out the old huts for a while but was thwarted by road closures over the recent winter.
Not much left of the old school, unfortunately: we were able to make out where the fireplace was and asked our kids what they would have done if they went to this school 100 years ago-play football and drawing was the response.
TFTC: thanks for bringing us out here.

Driving back from the nearby mystery cache we found a couple of drive by caches to tick off. This was one of them. I am pleased we discovered these as it was such an interesting place. I imagined all these little children who would once have been running about and doing lessons in this area. I could almost hear their laughter or perhaps that was my two kids who had gone over to see Brayshaw’s Hut. Thanks for putting a cache here and giving a reason for us to stop and explore…. eatmorchikin from Brisbane
What a beautiful spot with some snow on the ground and some roos bounding away. Didn't sign log as I had no pen TNLN tftc
Not much of the school left. Reminds me of the one I went to that had only 12 students and then closed. Also gone now. TFTC Sdl.
It's hard to imagine a school here, but it is a quiet spot and the cache was easy to find. The spoiler photos helped and ensured minimal disruption to the area. Thanks SDL.
Heading home via Adiminaby today and this was the first stop. A quick walk through the grass to the old site and cache was soon found by Pagan. Interesting spot.

Great day out bush walking with Relish64. Beautiful area and a bonus being able to find some caches.
Took a little hunting as I had no reception and just had to search.
There was also a pen on a rock at the site of the school.
