We bush-bashed for a while trying to get to this one. It's pretty steep and thick bush, doesn't appear to be a track anywhere. There's some fresh slips in the area too so we wonder if it's been taken out
Cache location appears to be at slip site. CO might need to do a check to confirm cache is there, sounds like log needed replacement too.
More a did not attempt as a very large tree has fallen disturbing a number of rocks so doesn't look safe to scramble
Never managed to find the original either, and its taken me this long to make my way up here for this one. Managed to find the 'track' up so was actually pretty easy getting to GZ.
Cache is damp, but still ok. TFTC

Terrain is more of a 3.5 to a 4.
Cache had rolled out and gone quite a bit down the hill but found it eventually, the pup was every so slightly damp but all in all quite good condition. Added a new temp log in. Cool hide. Horrible climb to the top of the hill in the middle of winter. TFTC

(2128) Great spot with a nice wee walk into the cache. Missed the track first and had to backtrack a little. Once on the right track we soon found our tree and eventually the cache. TFTC
Kids had a lovely swim at Forest pools after geocaching in other parts of Puketi Forest today. The water was a bit cold for my daughter - I too found it a cold swimming hole as a kid. I was pleased to get back into the bush after baking in the hot sun watching the kids swim. Neat themed cache, thanks
Very cool tree. Lovely walk after a kayak on waipapa river. Tamariki liked Barnies toys. An inspiration for my first cache.
#878 WOO HOO! On second try, I found it! I took the other half today, and with two sets of eyes it made hunting easier. The track was MUCH easier to traverse then last time I was here and after a good rummage in spots I had looked before, I spotted something that I disregarded last time and lo and behold it was the damn cache! Can't believe I didn't investigate more last visit. Oh well, it was nice to be back in this great area.
Fantastic cache- I give it a fave point for both the cache and location. Glad to tick this one off! TFTC!

Another great find while on holiday in the area.
Good short walk up to the cache site - pretty easy going as nice and dry.
2x gin traps and a tunnel trap or bait station near the cache.

It might be there but in the thick forest I don't come closer than thirty meters.
It's enough to drive you up the wall.

hmmmm, another DNF...
Sorry folks! I did not intend this to be so difficult... I put the terrain up 1/2 a mark due to Cookies comments, but it's only a 10-15 minute walk (OK, maybe 4-paw drive is helpful sometimes? It was placed it on a very muddy wintry day)
will try to take a waypoint to mark the trailhead next time I go there;
I thought the GPS signal was quite good up on the ridgetop. The cache is up there on a small spur just off the main track.
It would be very interesting if people noted what GPS device was used....just curious how different devices perform.
I'll have to take the ole Garmin45 out for a jaunt to remind me the frustrations of no/poor coverage under trees when I 1st started caching.

Having arrived 'last night' we had a look, and when the GPSr showed 25 m off the trail I thought better of bashing off into the bush. On waking up in the morning guess what there is a track behind the rock just over there! So we packed up, and headed on up. Mind you there must be a different Terrain rating in NZ, as I had thought a Terrain 2 walk would be something that I would be willing to take my mother and grandmother on. Not up here I wouldn't. Didn't see any dead critters, just a few traps.
Soon zigzagged my way to the top of the ridge, and with good coordinates soon spotted the cache.
Think I left a Correct Site Marker here - a surgical marking pen.
Brought through for mileage: 3 Bros, Aust Light Houses, BEAGLE BIXBY, B 2 B ingot, BROWN BEAR 15, Coin of Danmark, CRDAVIS-Scottish Thistle Geocoin, Fishing Bell TB, Iconic Bridges, land rover TB, Lil' Miss TB, cache critters Baa, Neigh Neddy, and Oink, PAP, Rienan TB, Spooky, steben6's DNF Duo - Super Cacher Geocoin, Trakabulldog geocoins, and trackable shirt.

This is my first geocache found in New Zealand. Thanks for great place chosen for this cache
I had the afternoon off today so decided to finally pick up this cache. Was really excited about returning to this area- it's a beautiful spot! Arrived and there was a muggle car parked up- I was hoping it would be another cacher but alas, didn't see the muggle in the end. Saw the track and started on my adventure and the GPS was not settling.... Not a good start. Carried on my way anyhow, and eventually got to a spot that fitted the hint. That was confirmed when I saw the same trap that CHYLBYN posted a picture of. By now the GPS was +/-5m and was pointing at a likely spot. Well, I searched and I searched and I poked and I prodded but nothing revealed itself. Spent about half an hour searching in every possible place and eventually gave up for the day as I still had to find my daily cache and also I didn't want to be in the bush by myself as the light faded. Walked back disappointed and with mud all up my jeans and a few battlescars from slipping in the mud but thankful for a walk with mother nature nevertheless. The terrain rating is too low at this time of year at least! It was a real mission getting to gz today. Thanks for the hunt anyway, I'll keep an eye on this one!
Talk about puppy love! Loved the cache and the location. Found some interesting walks in the area to return to. TFTC
This was my favorite! I loved the stuffed dogs tongue. I managed to scramble up the wet hill in my jandles...not so successful going down. Had a great day with Russell School.
Out and about with Hokiangler enjoying revisiting this beautiful wee place. Managed to spot the wee trail and headed off to Gz as Hokiangler wandered along the lower well formed track. GPS was spot on to find this cute wee pup surrounded by such beautifull trees. Loved all the goodies and such a cheeky face to greet me. Signed re hid and hugs to Barney for this great cache.
FTF #40! And what a great cache to mark the occasion! We come here lots during the summer for a refreshing dip late in the afternoon. Found the now archived cache nearby ages ago so naturally thought it must be along the same track. How wrong I was! Stood looking at a cliff face with 40m still to go and rather puzzled until I back tracked and spotted a small track leading up hill. I had Txt'd the CO with my puzzlings but reception meant I received a bulk of texts as I uncovered the cache. An Awesome cache too! Carefully prepared and well placed, it should give lots of other cachers the thrill of the find. Got a bit of a fright when I turned to spot a 'local' that had lost his head! Collected Barney TB for more running. Great cache, great spot, Fave'd... T4TC! CHLYBN
