There had been quite a bit of clearing around GZ, including some obvious stump ripping. The 'Roos may have been eliminated?
Had a free day today so rather than sitting at home being lazy I decided to head out and do some geocaching! This trail looked like a good idea so drove down from Northside with my bike in tow and tackled it. All caches were found however a few were worse for wear and I have noted which ones on the relevant cache page.
Thanks for the placement of this trail Sol de lune, I don't watch AFL but I do support NRL so not sure why I chose this trail first! *end of generic log*
----------
Cache was lying out in the open so I returned it so a likely spot near GZ

Went out caching today with Cache Hunter 83 as we realised how few caches we had found over this year!
Completed the entire trail in 3 hours on foot, with all found and signed. Along the way, we saw a massive brown snake, and then later decided to bush bash between two caches, in the middle of the Australian summer. (I'm not sure why either!)
Thanks Sol De Lune for the series.

Teenage daughter had an old school friend arriving from overseas, with 10 other teenagers at our house for a surprise party. I made the only sane decision - go geocaching. Ran around for 2 hours, picking up the series, Stromlo Sights and Around the Clock. A great afternoon in Stromlo. My D2T2 tally is now above the default D1.5T1.5. Happy with that. TFTC SDL
Out for a walk before it heats up to much with Slack1962 we decided to try for the AFL Series. Well it too us about 3 1/2 hours to walk the route but we found them all. Pretty warm by the end but happy we completed it first time.
With a nice sunny day forecast, we packed up The Woofer and headed for Stromlo. We completed the AFL series, as well as a few others in the area. Found 21 of 21 - a great day! Took nothing but left something in every one, usually a Pokémon mini.
An easy find - probably too easy; it was sitting in the open! No problems figuring out where to replace it though, and the log was nice and dry. TFTC Sol!

**Mission AFL Trail**
After having done the NRL Trail last week, I decided to do this one this week. Lots of great views and not much mud.
#4 for today
With the GPS still not working I took a look around and came up with nothing, so it was time to get it working again. After about half an hour I almost decided to give up but I gave it one more try and what do you know it started working again and soon had the CIH. Tftc

#1510 This was a great series, which is why I took my brother with me to stretch his legs. We totalled 7 kms in 2 hours 10 minutes. Found all 18 with no troubles. #3 & #17 need new containers. Thanks Sol de lune.
Only two to go here. The clouds were starting to rush over, meaning it was a bit cooler when the sun was hidden, and the wind was still fierce. Found, no problems. Thanks Sol de lune
Saw some kangaroos but they hopped off before I could ask them if they were from North Melbourne. TFTC
I decided I was keen on bringing up my 500th find while caching up in the Brindabellas this weekend and having checked where I was up to (fewer than I recalled) I had to add in a few today to make this feasible. This series looked just the ticket and was an area I felt liked walking in.
With a series like this, these will end up being largely generic logs, but with some extra details where I can recall it. All but one of the caches in this series was easily found and most were in good shape. As the individual logs will show, a few were lying out in the open and one was damaged - probably animal intervention. The old tree stumps out here are disintegrating very quickly, thanks to weather and a large local population of hungry termites. Some of the hides in these spots may have to be relocated soon. Those in rocky hides are faring better.
This one was lying in the open, near what was clearly GZ. The container was undamaged, so I returned it to where I figured it should be.
Thanks SDL for all your efforts in this series - very much appreciated

Great day for a walk/hike so why not go find the AFL Team Caches
Number 16 find in this series
This cache was also found out in the open and not in it's hiding place. I have moved to where I believe it should have been and covered it up again.

I had driven down to Canberra last night on the pretext that I found a few caches today before picking Shell up from the airport later today. It was great weather for walking and I found each cache fairly easily. I managed the entire loop in about 1hr 18min listening to The Moth podcast as I wandered around. I love a series that highlights such a great code.

Found at 8:24:00 PM with TikvaNZ.
I needed some stress relief tonight, so why not some FCC (freezing cold caching). Met up with TikvaNZ at just after 8 pm and completed the series in 6km (we cut some corners) in around 100 minutes on foot. Each cache was easily found with only #3 needing maintenance (hole in the lid). I'll have to come back in the daylight one day to see what the heck I just walked through. It was a strange experience doing these at night.
Thanks SDL.

After dinner, as I sat down at the computer to decide where to cache tonight my phone pinged with a facebook post from Noikmeister asking if anyone wanted to do some 'freezing cold caching tonight' - specifically the AFL series. I thought why not - a brisk night walk would be good rogaine training. Time and place were soon organised. I rugged up (more than needed as it turns out) and headed out. We started walking about 2005 and got back to the cars about 2140 having found all 18 caches in the series, on average 1 every 5 minutes. Most caches were found immediately, a few took a few seconds longer. It wasn't long before hat and scarf were discarded, and even then I still had too much on. Towards the end I was starting to struggle to keep up. There was no wind and it turned out to be quite pleasant. Some light drizzle as we did the final few. As I drove home I was on an endorphin high. A thoroughly enjoyable evening. Thanks Noikmeister for the spur of the moment opportunity and SDL for the series.

Great series.
We came across a few damps logs that we took care to seal back up.

Returned to get some more of the series today. Found this cache out in the open on the ground. I signed the logbook and returned it to its hiding spot.
We were up early to do this nice litttle series and glad we were too because by 9.30am when we were heading back to the car it was already very hot. We enjoyed the walk and finding this cache. Lots of roos to be seen and little bitsy flys that wanted to be very friendly. Thanks to Sol de lune for placing this cache and Happy New Year.
Found @ 5:29pm with Shadow! and Goo67
Another cache exposed. The 'roos might squeak into my top 10. Thanks again Sol de lune

Found with Goo67 and allrounder
I wanted to go for a caching walk and allrounder suggested this series which fit the bill nicely. We got to educate Goo67 about the finer points of geocaching along the way.
Thanks for the fun Sol de lune

I had planned to do the AFL series for a while, but various things have caused me to put it off. Yesterday it was the weather, but today was a pleasant reprieve. The only thing that spoilt the day were the grass seeds.
Thx SDL.
Thx SDL.
With the weather man saying "max 25 with rain" and it was currently 28 and no clouds, I decided to go for a bike ride.
Threw the pushy into the car and decided to head out the AFL series. On arrival, I assembled the pushbike and off I went.
Once again I was being cautious of the longer dry grass, however cache was quickly located. The weather was beginning to turn on me now and the clouds were coming in quick and fast and the drops had started. Well within a 30 minute period, it went from clear and warm to cloudy and spitting. Hmm not happy jan.
Due to the thickness of the clouds and the fact they were as far as the eye could see, I had to make the call and head back to the car. Very annoying as I was looking forward to doing the entire series today. I will be back though, need to get this pt knocked over
Cache located, signed and returned. On the pushy back towards the geomobile, got nice and wet on the ride back to the car.
Thanks for the cache placement Sol de lune, happy to report cache and contents all in good order.

[green]The 2014 season was a tough one for a lot of supporters, but we're all looking forward to what lays ahead in 2015. The Shin-Boners are doing a lot better now that they've reclaimed their heritage - something the Doggies should pay attention to [^] [purple]Binni[green] and I took on the AFL series today to get a few k's in our legs in preparation for next week's assault on Mt Gingera http://coord.info/GC5ETRW [blue]Thanks for the series Sol de lune
2014-11-02 11:45 Being back in town visiting SikmaD I thought it would be good to do another Sol de lune series. I had really enjoyed the 50 Must see places back in December last year so this time I it was the AFL series. On this run, SikmaD joined in and we took the MTBs. It was a perfect day for caching. We found all in the series with a little detour for Stony Stromlo. My thanks to Sol de lune. Go North!!!!
I decided about a month ago, when I got back into caching, that I should do this series today. What better day to do the AFL series than AFL Grand Final day? Headed out this morning and got back in time to watch most of the pre-show.
A pleasant stroll on a lovely sunny day through hill and dale beneath the Stromlo Observatory. I started at Geelong and ended up in Fremantle, visiting the once mighty West Coast Eagles (and one or two other teams - all 18 in fact) along the way. Thank you Sol de Lune for your significant effort in creating this simple and entertaining series of caches - loved the team colour theme
We have been meaning to do this series for a while now and today was the day.
Enjoying the walk and the views across to Mt Stromlo.

#2363 - 11:35; Out on a bright sunny Canberra winter's day on a caching run with Mr Damage. I had been wanting to come and do this trail for a while now and the opportunity came up today to make this a reality. Parked in the designated area and headed off along the trail where this was our fourth find in the series and fifth of 24 for the day. Great theme and we certainly had the weather for what was a very pleasant stroll around an area of Mt Stromlo I'd not explored before. My one and only attendance at a VFL Grand Final was North playing Hawthorn in 1976. Bit of a bummer as North lost that one, but picked up the ones either side! TFTC Sol de lune
Found 11:36 am with LuckyL10n. All I can say is go the Crows. TFTC I'm enjoying the walk and views and the quiet atmosphere.
Thought it would be a great day to get the bike out and do the AFL series.
Once we dropped off the kids to school the goewife and I headed to the destination point to park the car. All up it took us a bit over 2 hours to do and thanks for bringing us to this location Sol de lune:)

Out this way with the scouts today for a Jamboree On The Trail Hike (JOTT). There was a junior bike race out to Uriarra which made it quite interesting getting to the starting location. We did the "must see places" series last year and through it was a bit of fun. so though we would give this one a crack. Have to say that we really enjoyed the scenery and bushland for this series much better.
58 of 78 for the day. Great series of caches. Fun day. Thanks Sol de lune for this next series.
A great day out bike-riding with Ewan H. I was the logbook signer (AKA, Old Fashion Guy), and Ewan was the GPS checker (AKA, Technology Guy)! Unfortunately we could only do the first 12, as we had to go a bit early. Still, we had a lot of fun! We will be back to do the last six.

Decided it was time to get back on the horse that threw me...or the bike that threw me...or more technically the bike that I threw the other week. So taking the dog for a run around Stromlo sounded like a good idea albeit at a slightly more sedate pace than I may normally. After a short back-track and detour to Around the Clock in Stromlo I was back into the loop and feeling good to note there was only one more left.
I've been waiting for a cooler summer day to do this series - today was perfect. Did I mention, I played Rugby Union 50 years ago - still got good legs to do this series in a day. Thanks Sol de Lune
Starting to get the hang of this - find a like-minded cacher/walker and get out early to beat the heat. A very short pre-season for the AFL and Marmaduke Rothschild and I won the NAB Cup in about 2 hours. Another huge investment by the CO for our enjoyment. TFTCs and TFTS.
With The Rats trying to find #10,000 before July, steeba and I were easy to convince to come on a trip to Canberra to have a big day of raiding numbers. Despite the temperature hitting 37°C we still managed to find a lot of caches. Although it sure was testing in that heat.
We hit this trail early in order to beat the heat. Saw a black snake, some buzzards, a dozen cows and found lots of caches. We didn't really beat the heat though. Thanks for the trail!
Cheers

Found on a quick overnight trip down to Canberra with The Rats and Hoojar.
This was our first powertrail series for the morning. It was already getting hot and by the time we made the circuit and got back to the car it was a relief. Everything was a pretty straightforward find. I always think it is a shame this is not the national game but I'm one who loves my rugby league! TFTC!

Headed down to Canberra for a bit of caching with steeba and Hoojar. This was one of a few caches we found on a very hot day in Canberra.
These 2 footy series were our main reason for coming to the nations capital. Starting very early to avoid the heat we got this series done before 9.30am. I can't say I'm a huge AFL fan but do support the swans.
Thanks

3013. Lucky last for the series and not what I would call a great team to finish on, but oh well.
In summary, a great walk around the area on a very pleasant coolish summers morning. All up, just a tad over two and a half hours which included a couple of the other nearby caches. I would highly recommend the walk to anyone and I probably will be in trouble for not including the other half. But you get that!
Many thanks to Sdl for this one and the series.

The weather cooled today so we took advantage of it and headed out to complete this series with seabreezeAK. Nice walk through the Stromlo forest, we completed it a little over 3.5hours. TFTC and the series Sol de lune
This was a fantastic cache series that the WEEO and I completed this morning on our bikes, hoping to get it done before it reaches 40 degrees later today. Thanks for setting it up Sol de lune .
A Great early morning Geocaching session with the Geoson. It is going to be a hot day again today so its a matter of keeping going. Thanks Sol de lune for setting this trail up. TNLN SL.

Came down from Newcastle last night ahead of the upcoming 10 year Earthcache Event at Wasp head, and so with a day of caching planned for today, I kicked things off with this series. Got up just before sunrise as the day was going to be quite warm...and was back to the car by 0730. Enjoyed the walk along this loop this morning, both for the serenity, and as it was a place I hadn't explored before.
Gratias Sol de lune.

Thanks at Sol de lune for this second series. We made the 50 series just before this one. Smittengranny showed us this series aswell and said we could do both on one day. In the end we walked over 20 km and were very exhausted. On the other hand it was a great day with 70 finds.
All the caches are placed on very lovely spots.

There was a mountain bike caching party of MajuraHathi, Cleared For Takeoff and The Split who had north west Stromlo and Sol de Lune's excellent AFL series to themselves this morning.
After crossing Stony Creek, we were starting to get into the rhythm of things and guessing the visual destination point up ahead for the next cache location. We stopped at about the right spot to find the North Melbourne Kangaroos, which were the only roos we found today!
Thanks for the great series SdL. We rated the difficulty of todays MTB ride as "Moderate", based on a combination of age of riders, distance, terrain and track condition. Very satisfying!

We had a nice walk round to find this AFL series with the wildlife and the flies in abundance. Thanks for the series SdeL
As the day started out coolish I decided to head towards this circuit to increase my count.
I could have improved the start somewhat if I had bothered to put on my glasses so I could
read what Little Red Riding Hood (my new GPSr) was telling me, but after scrambling over
the barbed wire fence I was soon on the right track.
These were so much easier to find than the series I tried down near Monash last week,
where the caches were all micros. Many, many thanks Sol de Lune for yet another great series.
It is wonderful to get into the outdoors for pleasure rather than work all the time.
