So cool! Now to find our way back to the track!!

18-Mar-23
Yes another early morning rise for another mountain climb.
Today climb I was with my normal caching partner The Green Geckos, Muggle65 plus DisSister came along for the walk. What a hot day it was.
It took awhile for us to reach the part of the track we need to detour to GZ found cache in good condition.
So happy to tick of another oldie.

I’ve had this cache on my to-do list for what seems like an eternity, so when The Green Geckos mentioned they were heading this way with Muggle65 and Brislions, I jumped at the chance to join them. We made an earlyish start but the sun was already heating the day up, making for a sweaty walk. I quite enjoyed the ascent, stopping to admire the views every so often (quite often). After finding the cache, we settled down for a snack before continuing on. Thanks JohnJohn. Always good to find an oldie.

18-Mar-23
For some inexplicable reason & I yet again woke up at ridicule o’clock to drive umpteen miles so we could enjoy the sun come over the horizon while mentally waking up to another mountain climb.
At least we weren’t alone in our cachemare dream!! Today we are accompanied by Brislions and DisSister. Meeting at Moogerah dam to climb Mt Edwards to find Hydrocamp Oldie, along with the Multi & Earthcache further up that rather large rock.

Relatively quick find amongst the lantana, but a path through was almost visible.

18-Mar-23
Muggle65, Brislions, DisSister and l met up at the car park and started up the hill. It was a beautiful hot day. The sweating started immediately . I was not well at all and this relatively easy walk was killing me. After what felt like forever, we finally got to the spot where we left the track. Cache is in great order and our names are in the log. So much fun to find such an old cache. Thank you so much

We decided to walk in Mt Edward's and decided to grab this one on the way. After choosing a good enough spot for our exit we made our way into the bush. Once near gz it was good the size of the cache and we soon had it hand.

Nice hike to the top worth the hike for the view case is as it states left it where I found it

Brilliant old cache, with plenty of history as I had a quick flick through the old log book date back to when it was first placed. Would have loved to have spent more time here, but it's late afternoon, and I simply don't have the time.
I took the marigold seeds and a trackable, which I will move on. Also took the Furby.
Left a toy caterpillar and a hacky-sack / juggle ball.
Fp for last this long.
I hope for many more years to come.
Get to the cache is ok, only 60 odd metres of lantana bash to the cache.

On my way from Canberra to North Queensland with a few detours for shires. TFTC.
I started this one at 3:00am. It's pretty dark. Founch cache at 3:50 after circling it a couple of times. All after a big day caching in Brisbane, Gold Coast and Kyogle.
Another tick on my Monthly Hides grid. Great stuff.
Now to get out of here.

Found it. A bit brushy at the end but the trail was nice! Thanks!

21-Apr-22
The main trail up is very nice, but I didn't like the last 70 meters through the brush. But fortunately the coordinates were quite accurate, so I could find the box immediately.

21-Apr-22
Quite the hike up from the dam, and then the walk through the brush to top it off! Wow.

A great cache, thanks for placing all those years ago!!

This cache has been on my list for a while as it’s an oldie. A cooler change in the weather and a break in the rain meant this one was doable even though it was summer.
I put a call out to Snickersallan who happily answered and we set up a time the day before.
It was fairly quiet at the carpark when we set off, almost had the place to ourselves!
The dam wall was pretty impressive to walk across, just don’t look straight down!
Because of the storm the night before much of the track was wet and muddy so we took our time going up so we didn’t slip over.
When it was time we turned off and made our way through the bush, moving and avoiding many spider webs as we went. As we neared GZ, Snickersallan spotted the hide and we pulled out the container still in great condition.
Happily added our names to the log and replaced as found. Now to keep going to the top! Tftc JohnJohn, FP added

My first visit to this beautiful dam with such stunning scenery and after meeting up with geo friend Davinells we headed off to look for all available caches at this location.
The overnight rains that made the track slippery in places didn't deter us in the least, we just took our time and were very careful.
This was the first for the day with a short detour off the track through average bush terrain. Very exciting to see the familiar ammo can (my fav) and signing the log book for such a very old cache.
Now the fun starts to make it to the top in anticipation of some stunning views.

Wanted a special cache for my 1000th and I needed one from 2001 for a challenge and this one fitted the bill. Out with Willis007 finding caches on Mt Edwards and others in the area. A fp for being my 1000th cache and such an oldie. Tftc

What a wonderful bushwalk to the top of Mount Edward. We left Brisbane at a good hour and headed straight down the freeway and off to Lake Moogerah.

Across the dam and up the Trail we went . With grey clouds above us, it was a good day to be out, since it did stop the sun bearing down.
Just prior to reaching the first steep section of the Trail, we came across Willis007 and Kolour, who had been up much earlier than us, and we were on the return trip. We continued on our way to find this one, where we bumped into a muggle, Felix, who was very curious about Geocaching. He was very keen to come and find the hide and added his name to the log sheet as well. We explained the historic significance of this one given it is so old. I think we found a new convert in Felix.
Log signed, and we continued our walk to the top. It was really lovely to find this oldie out on the mountain today.
Thanks JohnJohn

I was last in the area in October last year... on that day I ran out of time to climb Mt Edwards... today, with an eye on finding older caches, this was my starting point...

The car park was empty when I arrived... and I contemplated emptying my pack of everything unnecessary and removing my jacket... I decided to my later regret not to do this...

I would like to point out, being terrified of heights, crossing the dam was challenging enough... I stopped twice on the way up to this cache... got passed by a hiker going up (show off)...

I was questioning my need to find this cache with about 200 metres to go, but I talked my way through... once I did my bush bashing, it was a quick spot at GZ... a nicely stocked oldie... tftc...

Left Kia Ora ... from NZ Tb to carry on...

Today, I joined karicka in hiking up Mount Edwards. An early morning start had us arrive at Moogerah Dam, where the area was already filling up with Mother's Day group plans, and it looks to be a lovely day and picnic area. We then spent the next 3.5 hr making the hike up to the peak, and then returned via a detour to the west of the dam. We then returned home via Mount Alford, stopping off at the pub for a well earned drink, and made a few miscellaneous geocache stops at various creeks and cemeteries.

This geocache had been on my bucket/priority list due to its age; A very nice oldie 03/2001 hidden cache!
We walked from the nearby track as we were hiking up to the peak, and we didn't need to bush bash too much, so it was probably a good route. Just a few prickles along the legs, and otherwise, it was a reasonably quick find of the large ammo can container at GZ. The cache container and logbook were in good shape. Thanks JohnJohn for the cache placement and ongoing maintenance.

Great to put my name in another of Queensland 100 oldest.
This was a big reason for suggesting this mountain for the weekend walk. Little did i know that giving your mum a hike for mothers day is often frowned upon. We still met some mums that must have been gifted a walk up here.
A small company of 3 set off from the parking and made steady progress towards GZ
Found a good path in from the main track
Thank you for hiding this geocache

We've been hoping to find this cache for some time, so when the opportunity for a weekend of camping with family at Moogerah came up, we had to squeeze in the trek. We left the camper trailer, car and kayak parked near the dam wall for two hours as we trekked up and back. It was hard work, and we made harder work of the last little bit than we needed, bushwhacking 110m and encountering lantana on the way, instead of heading bush when we got to the 60m mark. Took some bark off during a closed encounter with a tree. A quick find, and despite my fears of getting lost in the bush (I couldn't get any trails to show on my maps), Mr STW navigated us perfectly back to the trail. Happy to have this one finally found, and exhausted when finally getting back to the car. I'm sad to see how my fitness has deteriorated but happy that geocaching forces us to get a little exercise in.
Took a TB that's been there a while, to move it on.

Chamad, Team Tyrrell, Willis007 and myself decided to go for a spot of geocaching today. We spent a good 7 - 8 hours exploring the Scenic Rim. We travelled to Mt Maroon, Lake Moogerah and several other locations on our travels back to Brisbane.

Today we ended up with 16 finds and bagged ourselves a couple of oldies. Woohoo!

A big thank you to every CO for placing caches at each of these location. Thank you for bringing us out to these wonderful locations. I always love coming out to this part of SEQ, it's always so magical, peaceful and beautiful.

Dropped at TB off at this cache.

Apologies for the generic post.

Out on a fun caching day with Chamad, GeoNayfee and Team Tyrrell.

After an early start to visit Mt Maroon Caves, we headed back towards Moogerah as we had this oldie as one of our targets for the day.

Getting out of the car after our Mt Maroon climb, 4 pairs of legs were not too keen to start another climb so quickly. But up we went, and up and up. Eventually it was time to turn off the track and do a spot of bush bashing. TT soon had the cache in hand, I love the sound of an ammo tin opening!

Thanks for keeping this cache going JohnJohn.

08-Aug-20
Out today with team Tyrrell, Willis007 and GeoNayFee to hit some target caches in the area. On the list was some particular D/T‘s, oldies, letterboxes, challenges and some trads. With a list set it was planned to get most of these in some form of order. But like all plans things are due to change along the way. It was a fun day with lots laughs along the way with a few long walks. In all we collected around 16 key caches and a few with some unloved.

Another little walk to grab this one, a nice walk along the dam wall and then onto a well formed track compared to the last track this was very nice with just a couple of places that had inclines. We had to jump off the track and do a little bit of a bush bash for 80mtrs before we found the cache. I love me an ammo tin, there is something that says congratulations and caching with an ammo tin. Dropped off a TB in the tin, signed the log and then it was the walk back to the car to continue our list.

Thank you for placing this one here, all good with this one and a favourite point for me.

Find number 800 for me here today. I did a little happy dance to entertain our hiking group of Geonayfee, Chamad and Wilos007.

Coords were spot on for this one and was found 78 mts after leaving the main track and doing a bit of Bush bashing.

Thanks for the upkeep of this one CO.

Thursday. This cache has been on my to-do list for years. Today we were out to collect a few other caches and I didn’t even realise we were going to go right past this one! Doh! Once I found out though, I wasn’t going to go by without collecting a smiley on this one. Just near GZ on the path, we came across another couple of geocachers who were taking in the walk on Mt Edwards as they often did, but they didn’t realise there were caches up here, so they joined us for the find here. Great cache container and well maintained. Lots of goodies inside too. Log signing duties performed, we were on our way again.

This was the 2nd of 6 caches found on this outing.

Thanks ***JohnJohn*** for showing us this place Razz

Oh wow, what an amazing corner of the world. I was lucky enough to join some friends for a trip to both Mt Maroon and Mt Edwards (yes, we are suckers for punishment!) for a fun day of caching. When our grand plans to tackle all four caches on Mt Maroon didn't pan out, we decided instead to head out and attempt an FTF for the multi on Mt Edwards. I was keen for that, so off we set. It was only half way up Mt Edwards that I realised there was an old old old cache up there - Hydro Camp! I am making an effort to collect the 100 oldest geocaches in Queensland and this one easily makes the list. Arriving at GZ, we ran into some fellow cachers who were coming down the mountain but didn't realise this cache was here. Come join us, we beckoned! Lovely to meet you both Very Happy.

After climbing about half way up (I admit, I was breathing HARD, harder than the other two :p, but in my defense, I've done three significant climbs in five days) we deviated from the path to find this golden oldie. I didn't regret it. Nothing better than an ammo can in the bush with a great view, after a great hike and with great friends. Yes yes yes all the way.

Well, Ruzzelz put up a note on Thursday saying he was going for a walk past a cache that I have been considering for a while. I checked to see how far it was from home - 146 km, so no Covid issues. Next, what time was he starting, and could I get there... 8.30 am means a 6,00 am leaving time, but doable. Okay, next, time to get a leave pass from Mrs FNG. Yep, happy to get me out of the house for the day.. Okay. touched base with Ruzzelz to say to expect me.
On the morning, arrived in time, and met up with Ruzzelz, NikiD1 and MMEandK. Off we went. I has not done a serious walk for about 4 months, and it soon became evident that I need to do some work on that. With regular stops for photos, made it up to the GZ for this one. Guys went in and signed the names while I set up a defibrillator and got my heart working again...
Thanks for this cache.

A call was put on Facebook for anyone interested in a walk. So it resulted in myself Ruzzelz fng_affl and emm&k being here. After a few walks in a circle a likely hide was spied and bingo there was the cache. A nice new container for an oldie. Lovely to see.

This cache is located about half-way to the summit of Mt. Edwards. The hike is strenuous so this cache makes a welcome rest stop. The always reliable cache container and amazing collection of swag here deserve a favourite point. Geokids making the effort to complete this hike would be well rewarded to stop here!

I've wanted to climb a few of these peaks in the Scenic Rim for quite some time, so decided to hike Mount Edwards today. I'd been up here about 18 years ago with a mate. We just bought ourselves a mobile phone each and was so amazed that we could call people while we were at the top of a mountain! If only I would have known about geocaching then - this cache was probably brand new then.

I started my day by grabbing a couple of ruzzelz' caches down by the dam wall, then legged it up the hill. I was definitely fitter 18 years ago! I picked a good day for it though, the weather was perfect. Would be quite a challenge in the summer heat. Soon I knew I must be getting close to where I needed to leave the track and venture into the scrub - found a spot that looked like others before me had taken and it wasn't long and I found myself this historic cache.

I had seen a couple of previous logs prior to planning my visit, and noted that the ammo can was having a few issues and wouldn't close properly - so I had bought another one along with me. It was true - when latching the clasp it would fly open. and the lid would stay partially ajar. I transferred the logbook and swag into the new can - which was already pre-loaded with goodies, so this cache is literally stuffed with stuff, ready for the next finders.

After having a little rest and loading the backpack back up, I ventured back to the main trail, but must have taken a different route as I ended up down hill about 30m from where I had left the track to enter the scrub. From here I walked up to the summit, rested a bit and made good time back down the hill as I wanted to be back in Lismore before it got dark.

Fantastic old cache - glad I have it checked of my list now. The hike was a nice bit of training for when I summon the strength to climb Mount Moogerah! Thanks for this one JohnJohn.

I don’t really think I can improve much upon JezNDez’s log below, so... what she said!
I have had my eye on this one for a while for Jasmer purposes, but ended up finding a substitute in NZ last year instead.
However, it is still one of Qld’s Oldest and Finest which makes it a must find.
Quite a steep hike up here so don’t underestimate it, folks. Thank goodness we headed off very early.
TFTC where all is basically fine, though a replacement ammo can would be thoughtful.

Love a nice old cache, especially one that fills a gap in JASMER Over some yummy pub grub last weekend, Seff, the Lady Sim, Swellerfungus, TeamTinda and I briefly discussed a walk this weekend. I put in a request for a shorter walk so I could come before work, and the J.E.F.F app clattered away to itself for a second, before spitting out the nearby Earthcache, and the added bonus of a nice old cache for TT and myself. Sounds like a plan!

The five of us, along with Sim's muggle friend & daughter, met in the carpark at 6.30, laced our boots and set off across the dam wall; so cool to see the water gushing through, and the queasy angle of the wall... the smell of the water was less lovely and hastened our steps up the slope, which started out gently enough but soon saw us sweating! Once we'd achieved sufficient elevation TT and I dropped our packs and headed off track. A bit of weaving saw us quickly arrive at GZ with no lantana scratches, to find an amazingly well preserved ammo can . Signed the log, admired the old log, and headed back to the track, and on towards the summit.

Thanks for this old one, the cache is still in great condition but the hinge is starting to rust a bit meaning the lid won't fully close. Still animal- and waterproof, just FYI if a future visitor fancies lugging a new can up the hill

Day three of a 3 day drive to the Sunshine Coast from Canberra. As we were getting close, today was focused on finding some particular caches (old ones and challenges). Milestone cache for me #100 and first T4. I had assumed the cache was at the summit and only realised it was a bit back after enjoying the view for while. On the way down I overshot the entry point and had to bush bash uphill for 160m. New respect for T4. All in all a superb day. TFTC

We were on a weekend adventure with no cache blockers, we were flying by the seat of our pants. This cache was not on our radar at all for the weekend but hey we can go off path and change our plans when its only us we have to keep happy.

This dam is amazing, we will be back with the jet ski here!!! But that’s another day, today we slapped on some sunscreen and bushman’s along with our new hydration systems, man we are getting better at this. We started off the walk over the dam wall and saw it in it’s full glory gushing away on one side and turtles swimming on the other side. Now we started to head up and up and up, we forgot the hiking poles, of course they are nicely tucked back in the car, we may be slowly acquiring all this equipment but it doesn’t mean we remember to actually use it. We took a couple of pitstops on the way and chatted with lots of other people also having pitstops along the way.

Finally we arrive as close as we are going to get to the cache before headed off path. It is so dry in here, one bit of ash from a cigarette in here would set the place instantly on fire, thankfully smokers shouldn’t have the lung compacity to get up here in the first place. On the flip side those wait-a-whiles are half dead and aren’t nearly whipping off the amount of skin they like to take from us. Once arriving at GZ we soon located the cache and added our name. Nice to have another old one under our belt that also comes with spectacular views.

This cache is in perfect condition.

Having warmed up my legs by heading up Mt Mitchell with a friend this morning, I decided I was feeling energetic enough to continue on and stop by at Mt Edwards for another climb. I have to say, the walk across the dam wall was the hardest part - it really did my head in today! Silly brain.

What a great walk and beautiful views from the top. Nice to wander off the track and find this old cache in such good nick too. Thanks for bringing me here, JohnJohn!

This has been on the "to-do" list for quite a while...Kestal mentioned she was keen to do the newish earthcache here so we penciled in a date for a walk. Thankfully a coolish day was forecast but we still left Tba before the sun was up. A brief stop in Aratula for a snack and we soon hit the trail. A great walk to this point and the cache was found safely tucked away in its hide before continuing on to the top. TFTC JohnJohn.

We were planning on doing Gap Creek but the weather put the kybosh on that and the decision was made to climb Mt Edwards instead.

As all the others had already found this, they waited on the path and made jokes about me having to find my way back to the path if I got bitten by a snake. At least, I hope they were jokes.

It was a quick easy find after bashing through the undergrowth. Of course, I found an easier way out. I left a TB.

Thanks for this old cache

Geopartner and I are doing the 7 container challenge (Not Chosen) that I signed the log for in Victoria last November at the Mega.
This was the hardest one of the group and the last one for the challenge.
Arrived at the park and set off and took just over 2 hours to complete it.
No time for the Earthcache which we will come back for later.
I got across the Dam wall and realised I did not have any water.
We were on a time constraints to get up and back before the gates shut.
It was tough for me as some of the step ups were large.
It was very humid going up and as it was getting late, we were glad of the little breezes to help cool us down.
Soon we arrived at the top and then we had to head into the bush.
Lots of lantana, wait awhile and other scratchy bushes.
We came upon the cache and signed the log.
We then turned around and saw the pink ribbon trail a much easier way out.

Decided to do this one later in the afternoon as it would be a little cooler than the 37 degrees in the middle of the day. It's been a looonnnggg time since I've visited Moogerah Dam. Had Ms Maddy's company for the walk up the hill to her earth cache on a great day to get outside.

At the appropriate spot on the track, Ms Maddy took a comfortable seat on a rock swatting a few stray insects that invaded her personal space while I went bush through the lantana. Finally breaking free of the lantana with only a few cuts, finally spotted one of the flag tape markers and knew I wasn't far away.

With cache in hand, dropped off a TB to join another that wasn't logged (?) and left a Ms Maddy path tag with the log book. Taking a different route back to the path, still had to run the lantana barrier. Now onto the earth cache!! Thanks for maintaining this 'oldie' JJ.

Thanks for the cache. Glad there was a few of us to mark or way back out of there! Hint:. Follow the pink ribbons

A couple of weekends ago, with some crazy mates, we did a 54 hour 2000km roadtrip to Rockhampton chasing older caches like this one as well as unloved caches, interesting puzzles, higher DT caches and everything else in between. Having logged these older caches, I took at look at the older ones a bit closer to home. Still plenty of oldies to knock over locally including this one.

After a tough week and a nice Sunday morning sleep in, I was looking for a short mountain climb to stretch my legs and clear my head. Mt Edwards fitted the bill perfectly.

I powered up the hill on a surprisingly warm Winters day - warm enough to get a good sweat up - and soon enough headed off the track. I found some pink tape and a faint footpad in places and managed to mostly avoid the lantana. The cache was found in good condition.

On the trek in to the cache, or possibly heading out back to the trail, I managed to lose my spectacles which were hanging from my shirt collar. After visiting the top of the mountain I retraced my steps but didn't find them. Another geocaching victim. on the bright side, my eyes are due to be retested anyway! Optometrist appointment now booked.

Many thanks for placing and maintaining this cache, JohnJohn

Dora the Explorer! and I had just completed "Something Spicy" at the summit of Spicer's Peak and not been satisfied in climbing just one mountain in the day we decided that we should climb two.

I had been to this area previously however did not do the mountain climb at that time.

We enjoyed our walk across the dam wall and soon after that we were on the up hill climb. My legs felt heavy as they had cooled down from the previous hike and they were complaining. Never the less we continued onward and upward.

When we were near GZ, Dora the Explorer! who had found this cache previously waited for me on a comfortable resting spot whist I went in search of the cache.

At GZ, it was not long before the cache was in hand.

The log was signed and returned to the cache and the cache replaced exactly as found. I may have added a few drops of sweat inside the container.

All is good with this cache.

Keen to get some more "old school" action, I am out today chasing three of Queensland's oldest hundred active caches. Dragged poor old Fangsoki along for company, despite him having been here a few years ago already - left him to sort business out in the carpark and motored off up here.

The views along the way are pretty awesome. GZ is slightly out of the way though. That last 50m took as much effort as the hill. Awesome spot though.

Up top the views are pretty good. Lying back on the edge there was a koala in the tree directly above - a bit obscured by foliage though. Ain't Aussie nature grand?

Dropped off a Lego man TB - but just realised I hadn't logged it in from when I picked it up way down south.
Thanks for placing this cache, JohnJohn. Found in good condition.

I camped on my Aunties property on the dam over Easter and wanted to come up and make this old grab but family duties meant there was no free time. I climbed up here many many years ago but I didn't know about caching then. Today I turned the weekend into a four day break and had a glorious day off from work and family. I enjoyed the walk up and met a couple of people on the way back down. I then had the rest of the mountain to myself for a few hours. I ventured off track and soon made the find. Dropped off a trackable and then continued up to the top for the view and a new earth cache. TFTC

**Smilie #4863**

We were heading up the mountain chasing a newly published Earthcache & just couldn't walk past a cache that is just short of 16 years old & only 60 or so metres from the main path.
Being as unfit as we both are we were already beginning to struggle a little & Geo-Mamma welcomed the break while I diverted towards this GZ.
No evident geo-trail but quite a lot of lantana so I was looking for an alternate way in but as I didn't want to leave Geo-Mamma on her own for too long (she does worry about me when I go a wandering! LOL ...) I soon decided on a fairly direct approach.
The co-ords were good & I soon discovered Hydro Camp nestled snugly in it's nook. Smile
All is in great order for the age of the cache!

Made our mark & replaced as found.

Went for a wander up Mt Edwards today with a bunch of bushies and what a steep little walk it was

15-Feb-17
Even though it was overcast and not too hot today it was still a hot, sweaty walk up Mt Edwards this morning. We met only two other walkers on the trail.
Where we chose to leave the track towards GZ was perhaps not the best spot - had lots of lantana to contend with. Coords good - cache quickly found. All in very good condition. Happy to find this 'oldie'.
We took a different and much easier route back to the trail. Smile
Thanks heaps johnjohn.

Had a lovely walk up Mt Edwards today. It was quite a steep climb but our geokid still managed to run most of the way. Decided to get the cache onbthe way back as we were being followed by four others. Great view and lunch at the top then made our way back down. I went in leaving hubby and kid on the path but coords all over the place. Came back and hubby went in. He seemed to have no problem. Log signed and off back to that dam wall Wink tftc

tftc,

Today is day 70 of an adventure that will take me around Australia with a group of trackables. My caches visited can be tracked by checking out the Key Ring using the code TB4P4C.

This 2001 cache was on my must do list and lived up to my expectations. About 1/4 hour after leaving the car the warning came up on the GPS that there was low battery. Do we go back to get new batteries or continue. We went on and after guessing it would take us 45 minutes to be close to GZ we turned the GPS off and just enjoyed the climb. After about 20 minutes, we turned it on to check and figured we were on the right path. At different stages, we climbed over a few trees and remembered one log talking about some of these helping them.
When we turned the GPS on again and we were 160M past GZ. Turned the GPS off again and headed back down to a possible location. At this time we activated the GPS and found we needed to go into the bush about 70M. Fearful that the GPS would die, I raced ahead and saw a possible location. Upon confirming this to be correct, the GPS shut down, how lucky for us. Adding a favorite.

As a part of my contribution to helping make the "Easter 2017 Red Centre Experience" GC6825Z a great Event, I will be leaving a card in every cache that is large enough to take it. This card provides a number for a trackable so you can "Discover me". There is also the Web page address "red.ozmega.com.au".

Happy caching.

After staying nearby, we realised how close we were to this old cache. Wazza9 drove to parking co-ord's, parked and started the walk, it took me longer to do than the suggested time. As wazza9 said the GPS was low on batteries and we walked passed the entry point, so walked an extra 200 meters. Wazza9 soon located the container, we signed the log and replaced. No views today, like there was 15 years ago. thanks to Johnjohn.

I had some spare time today and the weather was perfect and I felt like finding some caches. I decided to work on my Jasmer Challenge in my local(ish) area. This cache was number one on my list and the first found for the day. I parked at the suggested area and started the trek. The track is well maintained. Once I got close I left the track and headed to GZ. Luckily for me a large tree had recently fallen which gave me a nice raised path right to GZ Smile Log singed. Cache is in good condition. Thanks for placing and thanks to all who have helped maintain.
Cheers

Wow what a hike to the top of the summit!
The kids all did so well with the steep incline and we made it to the top in a good time and enjoyed the breath taking views.
I decided to have a go at finding this cache on our way down. The lantana cut up my legs a bit as I bushed bashed through to the cache but I came up with the prize.
What a wonderful way to spend Mother's Day.

This cache was the target of our visit to this area today. We parked the car and made our way across the dam to the walking tracks. Lots of green algae near the dam and it was rather smelly, too. Once across the dam, we began a gentle uphill walk. Then it got steeper and steeper. We clambered across rocks and stepped up over log stairs. I am not as fit as I should be and needed to stop a lot on the way up....but the views make this walk worthwhile. We stopped and chatted to a few other walkers along the way, too. Eventually, our phones told us that it was time to head bush. A short bushbash had us at GZ where the cache was quickly located. We added our names to the logbook and took time to read some of the earlier logs before we rehid the cache and headed back down the hill. I love finding older caches. TFTC

Wow what an epic journey to this one! SelvaGirls and I had lined this one up sometime ago and finally the day came when the weather was not too hot and we were both able to spend the time to make the walk up to the GZ. Numerous stops along the way, steps up and across, over boulders and along narrow paths, meet and greets with other walkers, the pleasant breezes and those views! The final few metres were the bush bash and we found a very neat and tidy container. A quick read of previous entries, mainly the first ones, created a bit of nostalgia - who were here before us? Are they still caching? Log signed and we made our way back to the track and for the slow decent. What a great place! So pleased to get this done. Back to the car for a much needed rest and cool down. TFTC johnjohn

I really do enjoy finding the older caches and this one has been on my "to do" list for a while.

I met up with Gaz'n'Kab, Fangsoki and Griffo and we set off. I had packed a raincoat but the rain we were expecting didn't turn up and it ended up being quite a warm day after all. We checked out the dam wall and found the dam track and headed up the dam hill. We stopped for a few rests along the way to hydrate and the cache was soon found.

I had a bit of read through the log book as we waited for the last couple of stragglers to arrive. Lots of familiar names have visited over the years.

Thanks for trekking up here and placing a cache JohnJohn. Cheers!!

This one has been on our list for far too long now, so during the week we gathered a small group, and made this one of two targets for the day. We pulled up at the parking bright and early, and were greeted by Griffo, Fangsoki and Radnoski Smile We set off and followed the trail up towards GZ. We edge closer and closer, follow the track around the bend and were the closest to GZ that we could be so we left the trail, and scrambled our way to GZ Big Grin This area really could do with a good bushfire Razz We soon popped out at GZ and spotted a likely hiding spot and soon had the cache in hand and added our names to the logbook [^]

Found @11:23:00 AM.

Met up with a few fellow cachers today to tackle this cache and also Sandy Creek. We set of around 0830 and made good time to the cache. Great to see an original log book that goes back 15 years. Only 2 finds in the first year it was published.
The cache looks as good today as the day it was placed.
A nice walk

Thanks to JohnJohn for the cache

Well, this was an unexpected adventure. Invited to an overnight camp at nearby Aratula hotel/motel with a bunch of muggle friends. Naturally the discussion turned to geocaching at some point and I said there will be some nearby for sure. Checked the GPS and what do you know, there's one up there on that mountain. What's more the oldest I have come across. Plans made to do an early morning walk with a muggle mate. With overcast skies we were off this morning and soon at the dam wall. Onwards and upwards we went. Well, I'll admit this old duffer struggled with old joints so a patient muggle mate had time to take lots of photos. As I struggled and clambered upwards I was focused on staying upright and at a drink break realised we had actually passed the cache. Oh well, on to the top and we'll get it on the return. I survived the assent and we were rewarded by wonderful views of the surrounding country. Once rested, the descent was easier and I kept a close watch on the GPS. Thought I found a likely turning off point and so I left my mate resting as I bush bashed. There were lots of trees brought to earth by recent storms so the going was indeed rough. GPS soon had me at a likely spot and there it was. So pleased to get this one. Lots of interesting swaps but I came unprepared so just a log signing for me. Returning to the track via a more likely route saw me do battle with a wall of lantana with the usual results. Ah well, whats a little blood loss for a good cause. I was very please to find the track agin though and the return to the car was uneventful, thankfully. Many thanks JohnJohn for the unexpected adventure. A favourite from an old cacher to an old cache.

Absolute pleasure to put my name on Queensland's 3rd oldest surviving cache, enjoyed the walk to GZ stopping to take in some scenic views and found the coordinates to be very accurate, happy to report that cache and contents are in pristine condition.

The authorities certainly don't waste lots of money maintaining this track. Had a really good workout this morning. Finally found a spot where I could happily leave the track with only minor skin punctures likely. Found! And it's not a micro in the bush! Yay! A real traditional cache container. As Nat parks discourage swaps, no swaps today. Last time I came herewith a friend, I did have usual trick of looking at the cache map when I got home. Duh! One of myvaunts married an Edwards - I don't suppose it was any relation though. TFTC and the exercise.

Well well well it was great to find this one. We made the walk to the summit first incase looking for this bad boy was going to take a while. What a view from the top. Well worth the walk UP! Smile
The mountain is getting very thick with scrub too but really only needed to keep an eye out for the crazy big spiders in their huge webs.
The Cache is in good nick.

Our last for the day. We parked near the dam and saw the cache was about 1.2km away. We then saw when the gates were due to be locked which gave us an hour along with the fact it would probably be dark at the same time. It was when we crossed the dam we saw the summit sign saying 3km so the timing just got tighter. We followed the rough track and distributed a few Roos along the way. The distance did not seem to close in much at first but then after a couple of zigzags the track seemed to be more first to GZ. So good views along the way and once within about 100m of GZ we saw a faint track And hoped it was more geo than animal. It dropped in and out a bit as we bush bashed straight to GZ for a quick find. Good to see an ammo can and an old log book. We completed the signs duties and headed back all before the official closing time. TFTC.

Camping at Moogerah Caravan Park and had planned to make the area a little more yellow and smiley.

2 weeks prior, had knocked off Dam Fine View which sat at the peak of Mt Greville. Noting that this one had the same difficulty rating by NP Queensland but had formed tracks, figured this would be a pretty straight forward endurance walk.

The first morning, Gmccul, a muggle friend who had been camping with us and I set out. Soon enough we were within 100m of GZ but with no real path. Here goes nothing! And begun bush bashing through zig zagging from side to side. Eventually with some minor scratches a few close encounters with Golden Orbs, we were in GZ +/- 3m. Spotted a likely candidate for the container and sure enough it was there.

Log signed, a few trinkets swapped for the kids and the container was put back as found.

We were 50/50 on whether to carry on to the summit but in the end decided to push on. Whilst the view was no where near as spectacular as Mt Greville, it was certainly a hard earned reward!

Thanks for bringing here JohnJohn; certainly would not have bothered with the climb without it.

Reperio at 1350.

Day 7 of the mega caching tour of Queensland, and the week leading up to the mega in Stanthorpe was largely spent finding some of the states' older placed caches. After visiting a few power trails the day before, I was itching to get out a do some walking...so on the way to Brisbane today, I stopped by to visit this beautiful location. Having expected to do some decent off track walking to get to GZ, I was pleasantly surprised to find the designated walking trail took me to within 60m of the cache. I followed the geotrail in, and after a few minutes of searching, the cache's location was soon discovered. Really enjoyed the walk, and the location.

Gratias JohnJohn.

Swellerfungus invited me for a weekend of picking geo-fruit out Stanthorpe way. After completing our list of targets on Saturday, we had the morning free to grab a few more local caches before returning home. With a 5am start we packed up our tents and said goodbye to Team Robins, who we had the pleasure of enjoying their hospitality and back yard for the last 2 nights, and started our journey home. After finding a couple of other local caches we still had some time to spare before geodaughter had to be at school for a rehearsal. Some quick mental arithmetic and we worked out that we might just squeeze this cache in. It had been on my target list for some time so I jumped at the chance to get to find it today. We parked in the car park and made our way across the dam wall. The going to start with was relatively comfortable but the higher we went the more he track started to become steeper and over grown. It was definitely a challenging climb. As we neared GZ we couldn't see any reasonable access point so continued on to see if things improved at all. As we arrived about 90m above the cache the scrub thinned ever so slightly so we decided it was now or never. We battled our way through the tight scrub and lantana and eventually arrived at GZ where the cache was easily found. After signing our names we resolved not to return the same way so battled our way directly back to the track. The going was again tough but we managed to find the track again, even though I didn't see it initially despite standing only a metre from it as a fallen log was laying at the exact angle to block it from my sight lines.Red Face The descent was accomplished in good time and we arrived back at the car to enjoy a well earned cold drink, and with enough time to enjoy a treat from the bakery in Aratula. In the end we got geodaughter to school with 5min to spare. A well timed expedition if ever there was one. TFTC

Wow did I underestimate this cache! Well to be honest we didn't really research it much before we set off for the find. You see we were heading home from Stanthorpe to Brisbane and had a window of a few hours to fill before we were due back home. We had both discussed that this one was one of the oldest so set out to make a find. With SNJ and Mini SNJ we set off at a pace. The start of the walk was most pleasant indeed. Eventually this changed to be a hard uphill slog that was not helped by the heat of the day getting stronger. Some wonderful views, copious amounts of water drunk, and plenty of rest stops later and we hit a point where we should be able to access the cache. To much lantana. We headed further up and eventually had a launch point. Back down and across, but it was tough going. We scratched our way through to the cache, and were surprised at the lack of view. Left a path tag or two before heading back down the hill to the car. Much more pleasant trip down than up!
Thanks JohnJohn.

Second time lucky for us here - we came early in the week and their was no access during the week. So here we are again ready to go. We made our way up path and almost at GZ we ran into some fellow cachers who gave us a bit of a heads up - thanks. In we went, closer and closer we got. Geokid spotted it first. Signed the log and checked out the goodies but TNLN. It is great to find one that has been in the game for so long. TFTC JohnJohn

We really wanted to do this trail but unfortunately there was construction happening at the base of the dam and the path along the top of the dam was closed off today. Apparently construction will end at the end of the year. Unsure if the path will be closed off til then or just for the day.
