Today we headed up Mt Wellington to tackle the first 12 caches on the Thark track. We arrived at the nearby parking at 11.45am so decided to have an early lunch and then head off.Really enjoyed the walk and the rock hopping to the final of the 12 caches. Then the fun began as we cached our way back to the car. We ended up skipping one of the hides as I was all rock hopped out and it was 90m uphill from the trail. Other than that one all caches were found safe and sound. No snakes spotted but we did see a kazillion lizards. We thought the weather was going to be drizzle all afternoon but the clouds dispersed and we were hit with the searing Tassie sun. Sun burnt necks for both of us as the sunscreen was in the car .Added a log book and a baggie to this one TFTC
Nyssaflutterby walked with me to this cache, she had done a few on the track earlier in the year. Rocks like this aren't my favourite so I was glad to just do one of this series! It is a very interesting location compared to the surrounding areas. TFTC
TFTC JENPETEH, The H,s , South Africans living in Tassie GeoCaching our way around Australia and loving it found the container but no log inside. Will be back to do the trail so will fix if not done already
Found this one today and CO has b been messaged as maintenance is required. Was a nice Cyrus day today. TFTC from the inspectorrexteam.
I was somewhat led astray by the hint, but yes if you look at the right angle the cache isn't actually hidden TFTC
A great day out with the wife and kids for extra searching capability and banter on what at first was looking pretty grim weather wise but we were rewarded for taking a chance as it cleared up and the rain stayed away for the time we were out. We managed the first few in the Thark ridge series with firm plans to come back for the rest when we get a better day. Shout out to Zozetta who came along as well and while she had already found them was great company on the trail. TFTC
Up in Brisbane there is a challenge cache where you have to find 10 caches above 1000m on a TUESDAY Knowing I would be down here in Tassie on a Tuesday, I made sure to reserve this day to visit kunanyi. What better place to collect the caches I needed. Of course I had already found the easy ones on previous visits which left this trail of Thark ones. The not so easy ones!I made this find harder than it needed to be! Wish I had have looked at the picture earlier. It took quite a hunt before I finally checked out the spoiler photo. After that it was in hand quickly. Took a photo for proof of find. Thanks for the cache Sue&Peter
Found on a trip from South Australia to Tasmania, mainly to visit family and friends and to also find a few caches.
After completing a couple of caches in Hobart first thing this morning, I headed up the mountain to find a few caches of interest including this one, before going down to the Huon.
Thanks Sue&Peter for the cache.

Wow what a day, at 5am the alarm went off and the day began. Mr T met up with goose & SSR and we made our way to Betts Road, parked and we were driven to the top by Membsec. We met up with the others at 8am, Mr_Johna, KingSmev, EeePees, Budgietas, TeamSwampy, Jabs and Zozetta for part of the walk and headed off to the event. We found some caches along the way and this was one of them.
To start the track was reasonably good, but as time went by the terrain became a little more difficult. The company was great and we all had a good time in challenging conditions. Near the end of the track we encountered steep sections, up and down as we descended down from the mountain.
A great day out, blue sky’s until the end of the day where we all got wet but dried out when the sun came out as we headed to the car park. A 13.5 hour trek, arriving back at the cars in the dark, All logs signed Team Tassie.

In Tasmania for 2 weeks to attend the Oceania Orienteering Champs. Caching all around for DT combos and counties. Perfect weather this afternoon for this walk - sunny, warm and windless. Just over an hour to Thark Ridge with one stop. An hour and a half back to the car, finding all the caches on the way. Cache easily found thanks to the hint. TFTC.

Eighth find of ten today with Zozetta.
Today’s caching trip started near the Waterworks, where we had a DNF, then up through Ridgeway, collecting the caches on Chimney Pot Hill Road, then into Fern Tree, where we walked some of the Pipeline track, and then partway up the mountain, where we walked some of the Organ Pipe track and a bit of the Thark Ridge track, with spectacular views along the way.
We were frustrated by the first few caches we attempted, having a couple of DNFs and muggles near another cache’s GZ however we still managed to find ten caches, but also had three DNFs. We found a lot of excellent caches and a few favourite points will be given out.
After an unsuccessful and very frustrating search for a letterbox, we walked up a little bit of the Thark Ridge track to try and get some quick finds. It was a quick find here, I’ve never seen a cache that looks like this.
Thanks for the cache Sue&Peter!

Nice hide - if you could call it a "hide"
Couldn't sign log as it was too wet.
Tightened the screw a bit, but not enough to cause problems.

After leaving huonville on the first bus out this morning and connecting with the wellington Explorer in town, i arrived to the big bend carpark sometime after eleven to tackle the thark ridge series of caches and any others that happened to be nearby.
This was the second cache i searched for and the first one i found today.
It took a super long time to find this, but after a failed letterbox near the carpark, i wasn't letting this one go without a tharking good crack.
Eventually i discovered the cheeky hide with photo and spoiler help.
Thanks sue and peter for hiding a cache (or two) along this great 'ridge'.
Here's an upside down photo to celebrate.

A nice walk in to this one with a nice view from GZ. Took about 5 minutes to find but it was eventually spotted and the log was signed at 12:27 on Friday 19 February 2021.
I have so many tracks to explore up here and further down the mountain now Tassie is my new home [^] I look forward to it all

Today we decided to tackle the Thark Ridge walk and the associated caches. Found this one on our way out. Nice hide in plain view. The log is wet. TFTC
out and about with 1 Lil Rafa caching while we were on leave for Kempsey, that didn't happen this year. it good to tidy up caches that had been searched for or started and forgotten this is one of those. TFTC TNLN log is frozen solid, couldn't seperate paper, needed a little heater to keep it dry. scrawled something on ball of paper in green that was me.
What an evil way to finish the caches on the Thark trail. This one took us the longest to find and because it was our last cache we weren’t going to leave it unfound. All we wanted to do was get in the car knowing that a bottle of wine had our names on it but instead we spent some time looking for a tricky hide.
Because we were getting desperate I was ready to kick over every rock on this ridge, and thankfully I had four or five decades free because that’s how long it would take to get the first quarter of the mountain uncovered. If I ever find myself faced with the drastic situation of a rock shortage I know where to come. Hopefully there is no baggage/weight limit on the flight home because I’m trying to smuggle as many rocks in my bag as I can.
Thanks for all the caches on the trail which really made the walk enjoyable. The only thing that could make this walk better is a nice bottle of wine. The walk is even betterer and the only thing that could make it the betterest is another bottle of wine. The only thing that could make this walked betterestful is... tftc

Another great day in Tasmania with some found geocaches. There was also a ghost at the Remarkable Cave and Mount Wellington. On the way there was still some bycatch. Thank you for the caches !

As we made our way down from the top of Mount Wellington/Kunanyi we realised why it was a mountain of such mystery and power throughout the ages.
The cache notes answered all our queries about the name when it popped up on our list.
Thanks to 'Sue&Peter' for placing this cache on the geo-gameboard.

Tassie Trip Day 105 - Today was a walk on Mt Wellington to collect a few caches whilst it was a little cooler and the mountain was clear so after making the trip to the top and going to the toilet it was time to begin collecting some caches.
Well it was off for a walk with the car parked it was one at a time this was the first one on the trail and it was a nice quick find with that all important hint helping narrow the search area.
Thanks Sue&Peter for bring us here to admire the view and the track along the way.

I ended up finding quite a few caches of yours today - I’ll try not to repeat too much

Last time I was here I spent ages looking for it. TaurusSix turns up and finds it within minutes. One DNF avenged.
Reperio at 1445.
Staying in Hobart for a few nights with the family, we headed up to Mount Wellington to take in the views, and then I set my sights on completing a few caches along this trail. I was hoping it was going to be a little less technical underfoot, but being so rocky, the going was slow for our youngest, and so we decided just to log this one.
Once at GZ, the cache took a few minutes to uncover, and then we made our way back to the car before it became even more chillier. Hopefully the next time I’m back here I can get out this way and walk the full length of the trail.
Gratias Sue&Peter.

Actually, yesterday was planned in the weather to tackle the trail to feel the rigors of nature. But the road closure has thwarted my calculations.
At the barrier I had a nice and detailed conversation with the ranger. He explained to me why with some snow and ice the street is blocked. Hard to understand for me as an European. In the end he gave me a great tip for the day and so I was in the grandiose MONA.
Today, the weather calmed down and I started the trail. He is a bit exhausting, especially if the track is still a bit snowy and slippery.
The cans (7 + 1) I could happily find all that was not so easy in the snow.
For the trail I like to leave a favi here.

Searched a bit, as I was looking for a standard hide. But after checking the photo, it was very easy. Rocky road to reach the location, but worth it. TFTC
After enjoying the view from Mount Wellington we stopped here and walked up the path.

Main goal of this little hike was Thark Ridge with its interesting D/T rating of course ! I really enjoyed this demanding hike on the rough surface leading me through the area up here at Mt. Wellington with not a single muggle around . I left some caches for the way back as pleasant changes [:o)].
This one took some time and I had to use the spoiler pictures at last . Then it was a quickie and after that I arrived at the car for more exploring at Mt. Wellington .

Down from Brisbane visiting friends and family and grabbing a few caches along the way. Out with a muggleish friend (she's certainly interested in, and enjoys caching, but not enough to have her own account or write logs!). Jez found this one fairly easily, and Chloe signed the log... which is unfortunately wet again. Luckily the mighty powertank wrote our names with ease and we trotted off to the next hide. TFTC
After parking my car at the large place available I popped on my day pack and set off to do the first 6 caches in this series.
Nice to walk on such a well cared for track

Hi Sue&Peter, thanks for this cache. I have wanted to do the series of caches along the Thark Ridge track for ages. However, as it's a sensitive alpine area (i.e. no dogs) it's not a place that I can head to most of the year. However, just before Christmas one of my sons always seems to migrate back home, and this year it was the youngest home for Uni break. This means I can head out for the day and go walking without feeling guilty about leaving the GeoGSP at home, who instead gets to spend the day with his human brother. So a plan was hatched with Mr EeePees at work one day to head to Thark Ridge on one of the days over the Christmas/New Year break, and Boxing Day was the day selected. We met at the car park just above Big Ben and upon leaving our cars were immediately set upon by hundreds (nay thousands!) of large hungry mosquitoes! They were biting right through the long sleeves of the female member of the EeePees clan and the rest of us were too scared to stand still so off we went! This cache was found, and as mentioned by EeePees a nice fresh logsheet presented itself. Thanks again for looking after this series of caches, it's a great track and is in much better condition than the last time I walked it which would have been about 14 years ago.
Hi Sue&Peter, TFTC, and for its recent maintenance, so nice to sign a fresh new log.
Found BoxingDay on a lovely walk with all 4 of the EeePees clan along with Lil Rafa.
Once we were happy enough that the cloud cover had lifted enough, we met up and left the car park just up from Big Bend, at a leisurely pace as one member was nursing a rather sore back.
Never been on this track so thanks for bringing us here.
'Tis the season, so I was singing "thark the therald angels thing ..."

After not being able to find the cache we had to ask the last finders where they found it. Thanks to that help we located the cache today, replaced the log and repositioned to make it easier find.
Went to replace log but we couldn’t find the cache.
The last finder mentioned it was found behind a bush, so maybe it has moved a bit from the original location.
We will try to get a bit more information and search wider next visit. Otherwise!!!!!

It wasn't until we got to GZ that we noticed the DNF's but we started searching all the same as it was a challenge now, after a few minutes with us both searching different areas one of us found it and shouted out 'Found It'
The cache had water in it and the log was very wet and unwritable so we added a sheet of notebook paper in a fresh SS bag after adding our names that is.
We re hid the cache as found but the correct way up.
Thanks for the cache and the stunning views.
Myself and Goose of GooseandEgg had long planned to do these but we disagreed on when was the best time of year, I wanted to do them when during the winter so we could add in "Trash or Treasure Island" so the ground would be hard and make for easier going but he said spring or summer.
With that said even today was a bit of a last minute event since we had planned all week to do the caches out at seven and five miles beaches but come late Friday night he raised the idea of doing this area since the forecast looked so good for the day, so come the Saturday morning I picked Goose up and while we got our morning coffee we made the call to go up the mountain and not the beach.
We made it to the parking location about 10:30 and after changing feet and getting our warmer gear on we set off at 10:45 and didn't return until 15:30 after which we drove down to lost freight to grab another coffee.

The plan for Saturday was a nice leisurely stroll along the beach. Stainless steel rat and I had decided to ‘clean up’ a handful of caches at Five and Seven Mile Beaches but I threw a mad-cap idea at Andy on Friday night, suggesting we head out to Thark Ridge as the weather forecast was pretty good for Saturday. We agreed we would assess it on Saturday morning over coffee (all our caching days start with a coffee ).
The morning dawned clear and sunny and the decision was obvious so we grabbed our coffee from our usual place and headed up the mountain. We parked the car and jumped out. Thark it was cold! The breeze was strong and biting so, as well as putting on our walking boots, we put on jackets and beanies to keep warm.
We started up the track having noted (just now) the last two logs were DNFs. This didn’t fill us with a lot of confidence but of course we were going to have a good look anyway. We got to GZ area without too much fuss but both had very different readings so were searching a wide area. It didn’t take too long before those two words we long to say or hear rang out from behind a bush. ‘Found it’ said a jubilant stainless steel rat. I moved over to where he was and looked down to check my GPS and it read one metre. The stupid thing had originally sent me nearly ten metres away.
The cache was upside down and the log was wet so we added a piece of paper from Andys precious note book and a new plastic bag and, after signing the fresh page, replaced the cache up the right way. One down! Thanks Sue&Peter

Much time was spent looking for this cache. My GPSr was consistently pointing in one place. I'd search farther afield and it pointed back at the same place.
After far too much time had elapsed I gave up.
After far too much time had elapsed I gave up.
I'm sure it's there somewhere! I don't know if it's just me learning how to use my GPS but it didn't get me to a very accurate location here, just the general area, and the satellites seemed to keep dropping out... My tablet GPS was struggling and jumping too. So I can't be sure I was even in quite the right area. And if the hint in the name is the "rock" part then it's useless as where I was was a field of boulders.
On the plus side, I did find what could very well be one of wyrdsister's hiking pole tips!
I got to this area in the most difficult way possible - bush bashing from the Arthur Bigbend cache. Took forever and was quite steep in places, and tricky with climbing through the scrub and over the rocks. Next time I go hunting I'll just walk from the road!
There were gorgeous views along the way though and it was a beautiful day. I had to stop searching though because the light was fading and I didn't want to be stuck in the dark. Next time I'll go earlier in the day and hopefully the satellites and my GPS equipment will be working better!

After watching the sun rise from the top of Mt Wellington it was time for a nice walk on what was shaping up to be a warm day.
A fairly easy track to follow given the amount of marker poles.
Took a while to locate as its well hidden by natural camo.

Apologies for the delay in posting our log. We've just had a great 16 day holiday in Tassie. Now back home on the mainland it's time to log our 108 finds of the trip.
Spent a little time wandering around with GPS all over the place. Eventually averaging helped & the right rock found.

That was tharking hard in the dark i think i said "thark" many times treking over all the tharking rocks. Thankyou for this cache. Rock in a hard place.
Very cool cache, looked around for quite a while before finding the correct rocky location. Cold and windy day. Last few caches before returning the Darwin. TFTC
Sorry it took a long time to locate, it sometimes gets hidden away too well. Last time Peter went past he couldn't even spot it (didn't have the GPS) . Will try to make it easier, maybe another photo closer up to it.
After correspondence last night around a mystery, I was extended an invite to tag along today with Mr and Mrs membsec. When I first got up I assumed they had given it a miss but after getting a leave pass for the day, it became a possibility. I sent them a message and they had already arrived and started looking for this cache. I hot tailed up the mountain and sprinted to the gz which they had found after an extensive search...
I had looked for this cache a few times before but never had any success finding it.

Yesterday we were considering today's Thark Attack when discussion with Mr_Johna about nearby puzzles led to an organised group attack. The early morning start was aborted by the rain but as the weather improved the "Attack" was on.
Mr_Johna was running a little bit late so we pushed on to this cache from the car park. We need not have worried because for nearly 45 minutes we searched rock after rock after rock. Eventually a short pause to identify any useful ideas in the past logs and we revised our ideas of what to look for. Soon, very close to our GZ male membsec spotted a possibility which turned out to be the cleverly camouflaged cache. It is a little damp but still OK for use and well hidden again. We all signed and happily moved on.

We couldn't find this one as we were walking into Thark Ridge.
After finding the other six along this track we thought we will give it one more try on our way back.
Found the camo container the log was just pulp. Replaced with a piece of paper didn't have a spare plastic bag as this one has a hole in it.
Thanks Sue&Peter we enjoyed the hunt to find this one.

Plan for the summer. Hike, 4wd and Geocache around Tasmania. It will be a great adventure. After many trips touring around Tasmania i have finally made it up into the North West corner. It is great to see this trail of caches and drive that i has been made. We spent 2 1/2 days travelling around. Seeing all the sights and collecting the caches. Thanks
No luck finding this cache today, I searched for awhile. Moved onto the next one and checked again on the return. Lots of options but not anywhere i searched.

It's been some years since we did the walk to Mt Montagu. Boy that's a lot of rocks! Reminded us of the Potato Field. We examined approximately 867 of them, spreading the net ever wider before examining the one we needed to right where we were told to look, more or less. As reported previously, logsheet is rather a sorry soggy unsignable mess - & we'd just used our spare logsheet for one up at the lookout. This spot must get buried under a metre of snow at times. Took a photo as proof of find but we won't post that here. Cache left as found, ie "how could we have missed that?" - even though we did for some time. Thanks Sue&Peter.
Found this cache this afternoon whilst walking out to the Thark range and on to Devil's Throne.
This cache was open and sitting out in the middle of a rock slab which I'm assuming isn't it's intended hiding spot. The Log is really wet to the point it couldn't really be written in
I left the cache to one edge of the slab it was found on as it isn't so noticeable there but should still be found if looking for it
Lovely walk though!

Set out intending to do the whole trail but the weather wasn't the best and the going was a bit slower than expected, so just grabbed the first two before returning. Back another time for the rest. TFTC Sue&Peter.
Together with Silli1310, we went on holiday for a year. After travelling South America for three months, we went to New Zealand for another two months and then to Tasmania. Since ElMapa had also had Tasmania on his wish list for a long time, we met up for a good three weeks to travel the beautiful island. Unfortunately, the weeks flew by and we had already arrived back in Hobart. As we still had our rental car today, we took the opportunity to quickly drive out of town to Mt Welligton. From up here we had a great view of the city and the sea. After enjoying the view, we drove back again. Since we didn't want to just sit in the car, we did a short hike on the way back on the Thark Ridge Route to the Mt. Wellington East Peak. After reaching this peak, we went back to this cache, which we had saved on the way back. Many thanks for the cache.
On our [trip around the world](http://www.hoppundweg.piekar.de/) we came to Australia as well. We started in Tasmania, rented a campervan in Melbourne and went up the Eastcoast to Cairns. Then we drove all the way to the Red Centre. We finished in Darwin. We searched many caches and found almost every cache we searched for . Thanks to all the owners of these caches. Now, 2 years later, we recognized, we will never be able to log every cache seperately... So: Sorry for this standard logtext and thanks for one of the caches, which accompanied us on our journey.
Found the cache during our round trip through Tasmania. What a lovely island. The TFTC
Auf unserer dreiwöchigen Tour durch Tasmanien gemeinsam mit smellfooth, silli1310 und kapi84 hier vorbeigekommen und ins Logbuch eingeschrieben. TFTC.
A quick hike from the car park but once arriving at Gz...so many places it could be.. But with 2 sets of eyes and 10min later CIH. TFTC

This geo family stopped on the way down from the summit to make a snow man here so I thought I would make a detour in the freezing conditions and look for this one. It was a fun climb / walk and very wet. Once I found myself at GC, I was left wondering hmm. My geo senses must have been turned to high as I saw something a little different then laughed. Cruel Stamped and returned as found.
We enjoyed a wonderful 2 week trip around beautiful Tasmania soaking up the sights after visiting here almost 8 years ago. This time the little Na'wals are with us and some caching is to be done. We had a wonderful time time even the the terrible weather that we uncounted most of the time here.
