Like other finders, this one required us to come back with tools to uncover it due to it swelling a bit. We found it easy enough and it's such a good hide/cache. We appreciate the effort put into this one. Tftc.
Fairly certain Ive found this but am unable to move things - wedged in tight!
Returned with Mr SB. He used a stick as a hammer to get things out. Fantastic hide but wood has swollen lengthwise a bit making things tricky. Once out though- all fine. Thanks heaps!
Day 7: We ( TeamARF, Gcoven and myself) have travelled over from Brisbane, Australia to have a visit since we were not able to make it to the Mega. We have spent some considerable time solving puzzles and making plans in preparation. We have a gigantic list of old, interesting, highly favourited, challenges and a few Geo-arts to try and collect over the next 10 days. There is a good chance we got lazy with our logging, or space saving depending on the log size and do some joint variation of our initials - TGJ, GJT or JGT.
Today the plan is to work on collecting things of our list - some of the very old caches in and around Wellington and trying to complete Kiwi Geo-art. We are also picking up a few challenges (will check qualifying once home).
Please excuse the generic log, just have extremely little data to try and survive on it for the 10 days. However, you can be assured that if we have found your cache it was special to us for some reason or in a special location - so thank you for contributing to our holiday.
I will edit logs when back in Brisbane to add more details to those that need more details and of course I will be adding favourite points as I go along.

Another day in the land of the long white cloud. TeamARF, JACSTeam and I headed south to Wellington. Lots of rainy caching but still some awesome caches and spectacular locations. Thanks to all COs!!
After a big day cache collecting around Wellington we got back here about 4PM. Our aim is now to collect as many kiwi puzzles before the sun goes down, basically our last opportunity before heading north tomorrow. Some DNFs but this was not one of them. Thanks to SAROC for adopting and maintaining part of this series.
Driving past the other day I noticed the cache had gone, so this morning while on the way home from work I replaced the container and its holder. New log for you to make your mark on. Happy hunting.
Out with NZ_B after a CITO event this morning, collect the last few Kiwi caches I haven't found - NZ_B probably hasn't got them so some for her as well. Except I think she has this one. Anyway, I am not sure we found the current cache - looks like a really old one. Rusty as. Still has the log in it. I also found a bracket underneath that looks big enough for an eclipse tin, big enough for the one I found, although the cache was not in there. It was nearby, and I returned it there. See photo.
Was sticking out when I found, but cache container blends in well. Tucked back in. TFTC
We began the Kiwi GeoTrail mission back in December of 2014! Yea I know good things take time but today we decided to get out there and make a bit of a dent in the puzzles we have completed but not yet logged.
1st cache of the day and a nice simple quick find. Eclipse tin is pretty rusted and no longer has a lid but log was in great shape.

Sun is out, wind is chilly but its not raining. Found the original judging by its rustic nature! TFTC
I'm on a geocaching roadie from Whangarei to Dunedin. I've had lots of puzzles solved for such a long time so geoarts were the main target of the trip.
Now it's time to start writing the massive backlog of logs which is taking a while.
In Palmy area I wanted the shield series and the 20/20 geoart. Then Wairarapa was stickman (which we ran out of time for), the new M geoart and some archived skindo challenges. Wellington was finishing off the kiwi geoart. Nelson I had a few challenges I wanted before heading to Christchurch. It was family time there and perhaps the smile series but time ran out again. Off to Dunedin for the airplane geoart. Then it was time to fly home to say goodbye to my son heading to Denmark.
My friend Supernanny came along on the trip but today she spent with family. I teamed up with 0B80B8 - a fellow team G0LD mate from Whangarei.
This puzzle series I started years ago. Some I solved in September 2015. I collected some at the Wellington Mega in 2018 but time was against me as well as roadworks on Gray's Rd. I had to resolve some as the puzzles as hides had changed since I started solving them. We parked further along and walked back to this one. It took a while to locate and it turned out to be the original cache rather than the newer one. Thanks for keeping the Geoart going

Was down from Northland for a few days visiting daughter who has moved into a new flat in Porirua. The weather wasn't that flash on arrival day, but the following days were quite nice, so managed to get in a little caching.
The Kiwi Geotrail puzzles were nearby and I had made a point of solving them all in the last month, so they were the prime target today. As luck would have it, fellow Team G0LD member Lis was driving through Porirua today, on her way to the South Island and she still had a few Kiwis left to find, so we teamed up for a few hours, to see if we could knock the series off.
Well this was an interesting one. We had an idea of what we were looking for, but it still took a good 5 minutes before I spotted the cache, which seemed a bit rusty for having been replaced not that long ago. Checking the log showed the last signatures were back in 2021, so we must have found the original ... Signed the log anyway and replaced where found. And back at the cache mobile, we discovered a large colourful butterfly on the grass nearby, that I had never seen before. Turns out it was a Blue Moon butterfly, probably blown over from OZ..!! TFTC

Great Hide. Loved finding this one with KTG. Her Geocaching eyes were on form and she nailed this one. TFTC
Out picking up a few more of the Kiwi GeoTrail with the ever adventurous . This one had us initially looking in the wrong place, around the obvious feature at the coordinates. It was cool to find the cache in a slightly different spot than expected. Liked the cache too - always like seeing something different designed around the hiding spot. TFTC. KTG
Only a few left to find on the Kiwi GT. Stopped this afternoon to grab this one, a gorgeous day by the inlet. Found as per hint. All good, tftc!
A very cool hide, thanks for the effort SAROC. I didn't have this one solved (or it was disabled) last time I came this way so back today to pick this one up on my fourth visit to the area to keep progressing the kiwi geo art. I am not going to complain about the view this morning walking to this cache - absolutely stunning morning with bright blue water twinkling back at me. TFTC in such a great spot.
Another very cool hide along here, thankfully there is a good hint to help with a quick find, TFTC
Another neat cache. Might have to be the last one for today as the light is fading. Got some beautiful pictures of the sun going down. TFTC
Found after the beach cleanup event having solved during lockdown 2. Nice hide, container getting quite rusty without lid also. A rather large spider had taken up residence inside!
Thanks!
Thanks!
A lovely sunny calm day for a stroll with nephew along the inlet walkway. Lots of baby fish swimming nearby and water snails galore out in the low tide.
First to sign this replacement log. A neat cache for a well travelled area, discretion required, a fav from me. TFTC.

Drove past this cache the other day and I couldn't see it in its hiding spot. Possible gone. Disabled until I can fix
Found it, co-ordinates a bit out. Was on the other side to what I expected. Clever hide. Thank you. Lovely day for a walk.
Have spent last week solving these puzzles with just 6 unsolved. Spending the weekend in Whitby so decided to start collecting as many as I can today. Ended up walking round the whole loop. Another great hide. Will give it a favourite. Thanks for the recent maintenance done of some of these caches. Cache all fine. Thanks for the smiley.
Ticking off some more of the kiwi. This was a bit off co ordinants but found. Container a bit rusty.
I'm ticking this series off in dribs and drabs - this is my tenth Kiwi GeoTrail visit which allowed me to grab another five caches, and I am now two thirds of the way through the series. I'm a little concerned a couple of the series have been archived since my Kiwi GeoTrail trip so I hope I get to complete it before we lose too many more.
This was another mysterious find: I found the cache 50m up the path! I'd parked further up the road and had to walk a hundred metres to GZ. Halfway there, sitting out in the open on the side of the boardwalk, was the cache - complete with its disguise - and it was even printed with its name so I could see what it was without picking it up! I left it there because I assumed it was the missing cache that the CO replaced in October and I'd pick it up on my way back to the car, to return to the CO. Well at GZ I could see where a cache with that sort of disguise should go, but there was nothing there. I went back and grabbed the cache, opened the container and saw it actually was the replacement, so I placed it where it looked like it should go. Hopefully it will stay there a bit longer!

While passing did a spot check on the cache after information from a previous finder indicated there was an issue with the cache.
Gone. Fortunately had come prepared so have replaced with a new one. All good to go again.

A quick evening walk today. Didn't spot anything at the coordinates I had but spotted it nearby. Very few of these kiwis caches left. Thanks for the puzzle and thanks for the cache.
A clever hide for a track with limited opportunities. We were lucky with the slow dog walkers who decided to turn round at GZ.
After all these years, I still have a handful of caches to find in this series. All of which are in exposed locations I am not that enthusiastic about visiting. I had thought that the restrictions that are about to be implemented would be an opportunity to grab the remainder as there would be little traffic on the roads. However, after days of contradictory information, it became crystal clear today (the day after finding this cache) that driving somewhere to go for a walk is classified as non-essential travel and is therefore not acceptable. It's such a shame as geocaching formed a large chunk of my plans to keep myself occupied and fit over this strange period. While I consider there would be good grounds to allow hiking and similar activities as an exception, I can understand why the authorities won't allow this.
Anyway, this was a quick find today even though the vehicular traffic was much busier than I expected. It was actually the walkers and runners that made things difficult and I had to wait a while, firstly to retrieve the cache and then to replace it.

Hi SAROC, thank you for replacing this cache, one more to go to finish the Kiwi Geo Trail. The hide was just as I expected it to be. TFTC.
MightyMicra and I have been busy solving many of the Kiwi Geo Trail puzzles and now we are out for an afternoon to see how many of the caches we can find. We spent along time at this location but returned a few hours later after finding a cache with a theme which we thought would fit with this one. After a while we found a severely damaged outer container on the road side complete with Geocaching stencils but no log. Will message owner about this. Thanks for the effort of setting up and maintaining these caches for our enjoyment.
I fear this one might have gone missing as per RedEcho's info below. Thanks anyway for setting up this cache.
Cache maintenance this afternoon. Removed the existing cache and have placed a new one out a few meters away from where the original hide was. Cache page updated with an amended puzzle for you to figure out the coordinates.
Tried to get this one the other day but failed. Came back today with more information and made a quick find. Tftc!
Today is the 13th day of our journey to the south island. After spending a quiet night at the Waikanae River Mouth campsite we started the day with a morning walk up the hill to the lookout at the nikau reserve after enjoying a nice breakfast at the river. We located the two caches there before we continued heading south. As we were going to drive past the Queen Elizabeth Park we quickly grabed the oldie there before continueing our journey to Rivendell. After visiting Rivendell we stopped at another cache on our way out before heading back towards Porirua. On the way back we stopped for some dinner and I managed to solve the rest of the Kiwi trail puzzles. As we had planed to get them all before we continue to Wellington we had planed a long day for tomorrow.
On the way to the campsite we managed to find 7 of the 61 caches in this trail. This was #4.
I was overthinking this puzzle for quite some time before I had the right idea. Once at GZ it was a quick find. Like mentioned in privious logs the lid of the container is missing. Tftc.

Team GST (Gr33nslime, Stardust718, TwigNZ) got together again for another caching trip. This time with a focus on finding all the Porirua Kiwi GeoTrail. We had a lovely drive around the area over 7-8 hours in which I found 70 caches. The parking at times was quite tricky and crossing the busy road was even worse but we all ended the day mostly unharmed (except for a few scratches from gorse).
I started solving all the kiwi caches only 2 weeks before our trip. Fortunately most of them were quite straight forward and the information that was required was almost immediately obvious.
#31 of 70 today. Found after a short search. The logsheet was find for signing but the container has seen much better days.

# 1570 Team GST has assembled again (Gr33nslime, Stardust718, TwigNZ), for another caching mission. Mission for today was to finally finish the Porirua Kiwi, something I had solved about 5 years ago and have slowly worked towards finishing. Today would bring an end to that work. All up I found 28 caches today, and only 1 DNF, so unfortunately the kiwi is still unfinished but a sight closer than it was. We did the loop clockwise, and I feared for my life with some of the parking places and road crossings but all and all, it is well achievable to visit all 61 kiwis in the space of 7 or so hours. Thanks to the creators and maintainers of this series, it is a fantastic piece of geoart that still brings people to the region!
Found the container soon enough but it is literally rusting away. It no longer has a lid, as it is just rust. New container needed ASAP!

I was out and about today as part of Team GST (Gr33nslime, Stardust718, TwigNZ), working our way around the Pauatahanua Inlet finding all the Porirua Kiwi GeoTrail series of puzzle caches, plus a few selected others along the way.
In spite of the recent bad weather, we were lucky enough to have mainly sunshine today although the blowing southerly certainly left the air very fresh at times. I had already found a few of this series, as had Gr33nslime, but for the sake of ease whilst logging, all logs today were signed 'Team GST' regardless of whether we had found them before or not.
This one was found by Stardust after a bit of a search, but when in hand was found to be badly deteriorated. We were eventually able to extract the log for signing etc before replacing it all as found, but the current container really needs replacing and this cache could do with being made more like number 39 to help protect the future container.
Thanks for the Puzzle, and the cache. A great way to help me celebrate 2 years of caching.

Very nice hide here. I very nearly lost my balance stepping off here but managed to pull myself together before ending up in the water. TFTC # 13,747
This one proved elusive today, not sure if we were checking in the right place and there were a lot of muggles out and about. Will watch closely to see if it is found again or otherwise confirmed to be present and correct and then will head out again. No piece of kiwi will be left unturned!
We were staying in Upper Hutt for the week over Easter break and hoped today was finally the day we finished off the Kiwi Geo Trail. A pretty quick find here for Mum even though its starting to get dark. Just one more to go. Thanks to both the original owner and now the adoptive owner for the effort involved in placing and creating this series for all of us to enjoy.
Find # 211. Found with Aros71 on a sunny but blustery day. Had never walked along here before, mostly lovely! Log is nice and dry, but the container is very rusty and didn't want to open at first. TFTC!
Found and signed, in good condition though container going slightly rusty, might need replacement in the next few months. Watch you don't cut your hands opening it!
Out geocaching with Bennett24 day after Mega and came out this way to get a few puzzle caches on the kiwitrail - I didn't solve these before we came out so I've been solving them today so that I can feel justified logging the caches. In the end the solves weren't tricky. Didn't do all of them so just logging the ones where I was there for the ride.
Another park and grab here - bit of holiday traffic about so had to be careful here. Thanks for the cache, fine here.

Today was the last official day of the Mega.
Plans were to collect as many puzzle caches that we had solved in the area plus anything else that came along.
Most of the puzzles were road side witch was extremely busy so parking in some cases were peoples driveways and balancing on road edges and some we didn't go for as they were to difficult to get to. Another day and we have to return.
Al in all a very successful day. SLTFTC

TFTC. Kiwi GeoTrail was oe of the targets for three keen MEGA attendees. KotukuSI and warfi were great companions and puzzle solvers in prep for this adventure.
We manged to complete the caches in a day (minus 2) and were truely warn out after our activities.
thanks to the original placer and the cachers who have taken over maintainence of the trail.

Caching the GeoArt trail with purdiepurdie & warfi; getting towards the middle of the day now.
We had solved these puzzles over the last little while, in anticipation of spending a day out here during the Mega.
Thanks for maintaining these caches, SAROC.

WENZ Mega Weekend is finally here... Our big focus for today will be to clear out the Kiwi Geo Art trail around the Pauatahanui Basin. We are expecting some challenges here - narrow roads and lots of muggles. With Gap (of Fap and Gap), NZFlossy, and McJandals...
Sunday: We were a little more relaxed today, since there were no pressures to be at certain places on time... Onto the Kiwi Geo Trail. We enjoyed solving each of the puzzles in this series. Each one provided just the right amount of challenge. What a great variety of authentic kiwiana puzzles...
We managed to find most of the Kiwis in their hides. Some were in a lot better condition than others, and we can imagine how challenging it might be to maintain some of them. We found the speed and flow of traffic, and tight parking made things difficult at times. We learnt to be resourceful and resilient as the day drew on. In all, thanks to each of the COs for your input into this series... Apologies for the cut and paste logs. TFTP and TFTC.

Headed to the Nation's capital for a Mad Mission with Team_Gaters to visit the MEGA and have a blast hooning around in our rental car. I grabbed TG at 5.30 am to get to the airport and we picked up the car from the airport at 8am. We figured we needed to be back at the depot by 4.30ish. We had a blast we didn't get crazy amounts of caches but we did get heaps of different types and scored the oldest one for TG. We ended up only driving 150km for the day. The weather was good. Caches were fun and bumped into a few cachers on the road.
Another one off the art work.
Thanks for the cache SAROC.

Cache number 28 of a total of 52 for today!

Talking with TheWanglers, an age ago it seems; that if WENZ made Mega we should look at taking a daytrip up from Christchurch to visit.....It did; and as it worked out - we could. So here we are. Early morning flight in, and a late afternoon flight out. A day trip full of fun, caches, dodgy parking...and more fun.
We were soon to find out parking doesn't improve on the way around...some interesting spots pulled off into (kind of) at least no one tooted at us!

Solved this series a while ago, many of the puzzles were reasonably straightforward but a few required a bit more work to get the right answer. We came down this weekend to attend the MEGA nearby so planned to spend a few hours on the Sunday in this area to pickup this series. That proved a little more challenging than first thought as we had plenty of other distractions in Upper Hutt and there is a lot more walking involved to grab some of these caches than we had anticipated. We ended up getting around half of them on the Northern side of the harbour (some of which proved to be difficult to find places to park on the side of a busy road) before we had to get back to the airport. Thanks for this interesting series.
Found with Tuolei - not easy to park here and lots of traffic today.

Took a wee while but purdiepurdie spotted it. Maybe time for food loving the nature we are seeing.
Attending the Wellington MEGA, great to visit here from the sunny Bay of Plenty, these finds have been found with my team members, which include myself, NZ Flossy, Squirrel Nutcase, FapandGap, Philip Perry, TNXPRO and Davidson Clan (To save room on logs) We are having a blast and gathering lots of smileys along the way. Please excuse generic logs in advance. (as I have saved the template using Cachly) Many Thanks to all you cache owners for the placements. Cheers
Attending the mega with TeamBOP. Great time to catch up with other cachers and visit Wellington lLots of fun and laughs while finding lots of great caches Thanks to all the COs for providing all the caches and the work that goes into them. Sorry for the generic logs will try to add to them once back home Thanks
Worked out the co-ords with Teahan Family and as we are both over for the MEGA event we tried to complete the series today. Some caches were found in very good condition (being looked after by SAROC) and some that are in need of attention with wet logs and rusty containers. Really enjoyed the series, thanks CO.
4th of the kiwi geoart puzzle day with gely57. Had to get help from a geocaching friend as I had the right idea but not quite the right idea. Gely57 was the star here making the find. Nice view and a busy walkway. TFTC.
Returned to this one tonight and finally located the tricky hide. Thanks to CO for the maintenance here.
In the area trying to finish off the Kiwi. Sadly got a number of DNFs today, and this was one. Searched for some time and several meters either side of confirmed coords, but nothing found. Sad to see the mighty Kiwi remain incomplete.
I was extremely pleased to find this one. I arrived at 8.30 am and the tide was in! Nevertheless, I managed to access the cache without too much drama and with no-one around. I was fortunate, Sunday is a day for cyclists, and a couple of big groups of them passed shortly after I had returned the cache to its hiding spot. Whew - could have been tricky. Thanks for the puzzle and the cache.
Had to bypass this one when I first arrived owing to muggle and doggle activity on such a nice afternoon for a stroll. Managed to find enough of a gap to do the deed on the return journey.
Last cache of the day after doing 7 geotrail caches (needed ones easily accessible on foot as I had caught the Whitby bus to get to the area), and a couple of other mystery caches, in order to get up to the next level in the Planetary Pursuit which had been extended for a week.

#614. A nice sunny day, so a chance to nab a few of these clever Mysteries, and add to my Planetary Pursuit tally. Found pretty easily at 11.19 a.m. - first of 6 finds in the area today. Clever hide. I solved these Kiwi Geotrail puzzles a year ago, so finally nice to catch up with the caches. Tftc.
Thanks for replacing! A fast find collected for our 100, 10, 7 Challenge; logged as B&D. TFTC SAROC!
Dropped by this evening, Yes cache had gone. Fortunately had come prepared and a new one is back in place. Happy caching.
This one took a bit of hunting. Spotted as about to give up. Cleaver hide. TFTC
Lots of cyclists out and about today but managed to avoid any prying eyes by using the heavy rain as a form of personal camo!
A new day dawns and I have the whole day at my disposal, again, and wheels to drive around in too, yay! The forecast didn't look too flash but I had my beady eye cast towards the Kiwi puzzle caches that I have solved coordinates for and then hoped for a walk out around Titahi Bay. As it turned out I managed a difficult ten caches before the heavens opened and made any meaningful hopes of walking a moot point. Grabbed some comfort food to spend the rest of the day indoors and as soon as I got to my temp home the sun came back out again. So, in the arvo, I headed out for another 10 caches and a good day out.

On a road trip with my mum (CNAH) last weekend with the primary goal of seeing where my grandmothers grave is at Makara Cemetery. My mum lived her childhood in Ohariu Valley so it made sense to explore this area en route. Had a fantastic time hearing snippets of her childhood as we travelled these local roads - it brought back many memories for mum. From there we shot up to Taita Cemetery to visit another gravestone and then back to our motel in Plimmerton. Could not resist stopping for more caches en route. This is home turf for us. I lived my childhood on the Paekakariki Hill Road and went to the Pauatahanui School (I was the only pupil in Form 2 and there were only about 60 kids in the whole school). Learnt to drive on Grays Road - no traffic on the road back then.
The cache was nearly missed as I did not expect to find it where it was. I had presumed it was going to be harder to get at than that. TFTC

13 August 2017 11:37 found this whilst being observed by a soggy cormorant (or similar species), it wasn't the only thing that was soggy! Cache was fine though
My daughter decided that we should do a mini streak of Kiwi Geotrail caches. This is the first one. I have a plan to drive round this side of the Inlet every day for the next week!
Thank you

Looked more closely at the clues and decided to give it another go. Ethnz found it quickly. Lid was a bit difficult to prize open but all was safe and sound inside.
After nearly sinking inti the mud on Sunday we decided to come out and look for this cache again, taking more notice of the second hint. And BINGO, there it was. TFTC
We had checked our coordinates with Geochecker but had no luck with finding the cache. It was really muddy and we had recently had heavy rain that often leads to flooding in this area. It is possible that the cache got dislodged or possibly we just weren't looking in quite the right spot.
We decided to come Wellington way today as not too many caches to get our direction this is the 4th for the day so many muggles but we went for the cache inbetween one muggle to the next. cars going past left right and centre maybe not a great day to cache along here but which day would be ? signed the log and placed it back where we found it as quickly as we could before the next muggle appeared. thank you for taking the time to design the kiwi trail and bringing us to all sorts of different areas to enjoy TFTPC.
I stopped and bought a yummy date scone from a nearby cafe. After eating it for lunch I managed to find this geocache.
Today is day 2 of my Wellington solo trip began. I decided to start at the Hutt as I was staying at the Top10 and then see what happened next.
