We stayed at Nicau Bay last night and got off to an early start to make low tide for estuary crossing. That brought us by here at around first light. The cache took some finding but thanks to the clues in the description I was able to uncover the stash. Fumbled my biro into the dewy grass so it didn't want to play ball with signing my name, but I did manage to leave a mark. All returned as found and we were back on trail heading south on the Te Araroa (this cache is very close to the 352km mark).. aiming for ocean beach tonight. My thanks to riser5 for placing a cache here which certainly added to the enjoyment of this long day. Cheers!-- This log is trackable ! ---- Feel free to discover ---- Please mention, in which cache you've seen this code: ---- 3TABQX --

1341. 11:56 am. Like most I parked up and walked the last portion. My GPS was acting up and I just couldn't locate the "rocks". I was about to give up but decided to have one more look through the heavy shrubs that the GPS seemed to point to the most and thankfully bingo! I had expected the rocks to be visible in front of the tree. Definitely not one for tourists. TFT(end of the road)C.

End of the line indeed, in fact I parked at the top and headed down on foot. Took me aaaages to make the find before spotting the hidey rocks from the rear of the host. The log was soaked so added some RITR paper strip and placed the wet log in a nearby drinking cup. T F T C Riser5

It's our turn to look after Kaiah today as her parents are heading off to the North with visits to Waitangi, Kerikeri and other places on their list of places to visit. They were out for most of the day, so caching opportunities were likely to be at a premium but amnaged to get out for some fuel and a few caches on the way back from town (via the ford road).

Heading north for Christmas, we're off to Ngunguru for 6 days along the Tutukaka coast and accompanied by our youngest daughter, middle daughter and family, and will meet up with one of our sons and his family too, so a busy time. Had a great time away and ate well, watered well and a bit of fishing and kayaking, awesome weather mostly too in Northland.

Yah found it. I had work in Whangarei today and I needed (not wanted) a cache that hasn't been found for 1000 days. I'd spied this one the other day so I left home at 5.45am to grab it before work. The log was a bit damp but still writable. Thanks for the cache Smile

Out for an evening caching jaunt down N Ford Rd. Went to this one at the far end to start the day.

Stopped at the top of the hill and decided to walk the last 600m, just as a 4wd wagon went past. 4 or 5 mins later when I was ready to leave the car, another 2 cars went by, 2wd this time, so I tossed up whether to take mine as well, but decided the exercise would be good anyway. And I thought this would be a quiet location.

No more vehicles though before I reached GZ and the split bark tree was a nice easy find. However, whilst reaching for the cache, I somehow scratched my arm and it bled and bled and bled... Managed to keep the log clean though.

No more vehicles on the way back, but still bleeding when I reached the car... Sad

One would think that there wasn't going to me much traffic up here, right? right.. wrong! Not many seconds after having replaced the cache and gotten into the car, another car came up the track.
Slightly interesting in the rental, but it worked just fine Wink

Found at 16:01 - #6744

I have been meaning to do this cache for ages, as it is right at the end of my parents road. So I drove out there this morning, parked at the top of the first steep downhill section and walked the remaining 600m to GZ, where I made a quick find of the cache. TFTC!

A beautiful warm Northland day for a caching day with flowernz and grandsons. Chickened out here.....that is quite a steep road and even though we were driving the 4 wheel didn't have the confidence to attempt. Will come back with mr tikitour.

CFTF.Luckily we were traveling in the trusty ute so we rocked on up to GZ.Found easily, was reading the signs at the gate and wouldn't you now it we heard a distant 4wd getting closer.Just as we left two "locals" appeared at the gate,we left them in a cloud of dust and they later passed us at the next cache up the road .TFTC.
