We enjoyed the drive up (and down) Jacob's Ladder and the views from this lookout.Answers sent to CO.Thanks for the earthcache bedmakerTG.
Absolutely amazing, came in Summer can't imagine what winter would look like. May have to come back.
We continued today our tour in Tasmania, AUS, and thereby searched, found and logged this interesting Earth-Cache.
The weather was - said in one word – simply best. The good hidden caches and the being on holidays kept us the whole day in a good mood.
The cache had good coordinates, and thus was easy to find. The answers were sent.
Thanks to bedmaker and Tassiegirl13 for the generation of this nice cache Bens View (with the proper agenda), for leading us here and for showing us this funny location as well as the ongoing maintenance of this cache.
PS: Please forgive us the uniform log which is needed due to timing problems - if necessary special actions and happenings are there described where they appeared.
Greetings from Germany together with the hope to meet somewhere like event or wood.

Found this whilst on a wildlife tour as part of our month long trip around Australia. An amazing place to visit and thank goodness we were being driven on THAT road by someone with experience and the right kind of vehicle.
Answers sent to the CO and pic attached (complete with my lunch sandwich - or what is left of it). Thanks for placing this cache in this amazing place for us to find.

Hi bedmaker and Tassiegirl13
When I left home this morning, this cache was my highest priority as needed to find an earth cache this weekend.
Had never been up Ben Lomond before, so pleasantly surprised to see such a good road up.
Way better than the Mt Barrow road.
Out on the platform it was freezing as with exc views across to Mt Barrow and surrounds.
Loved the sheer vertical basalt columns rising up from the edge of the road...awesome.
Thoroughly enjoyed this Earth Cache....many thanks bedmaker and Tassiegirl13 for bringing me here....cheers ST.

We almost had Ben Lomond to our selves today. Certainly had the Jacobs ladder drive to ourselves thankfully, and the look out was ours as well to enjoy on this as always, changeable weather day in Tasmania. We were fortunate to arrive with clear blue skies and warm weather but upon leaving it was quite chilly and breezy. TFTC bed maker and tassiegirl13
Visited Ben Lomond on a crisp and foggy day. Great views from GZ but too foggy to see anything from the summit.
Yeah… my first reason for coming up here was to do the zigzag Road of Jacobs ladder and what a fantastic place ..!!!and then oh my god of course there’s a Geo !!!!…. Thank you very much for these beautiful spot
The aim of this morning's drive was to find the Earth Cache on Ben Lomond. With snow still on the ground in patchs, the drive up jacobs ladder was lucky ice and snow free, although the walk to the lookup was slippery at the start.

a belated log that i forgot to log, make sense, found this huge lump of rock on a beautiful day with no snow on top, it looks funny with no snow. some nice vista.
I was the only person on the mountain yesterday morning which pleased me as I drove down the zig zag marvelling at hard core Tasmanians who drive and ski up here in winter. View still eerily, spectacularly stunning as cloud rolled in and it’s as impressive as the CO suggests. Info board is excellent for a neonatal geologist. Fave for location too. TFTC
After a walk around Legges Tor and maintenance of 2nd Summit I stopped to admire the view down the ladder. A lot of low cloud covered the heights but the road still looked spectacular>

Some major white knuckle fever today , complete with tears and swearing from me, not David or B or E, they were excellent passengers. Jacobs Ladder is one of those bucket list drives I’ve seen photos of and have always wanted to do.
Today was the day...I don’t think the wheels had done a full rotation into the first switchback when I practically jumped over to the ‘safe’ side of the car and cried that we shouldn’t go. We recorded the trip up and I won’t be sharing as my language isn’t suitable for anyone to hear, I was more sedate going down.
Poor David in his short shorts and it started snowing at the top.
All in all, super glad we went, wasn’t actually as hard as my irrational self felt it was. Absolutely stunning.
Snow ️ in Summer, definitely the full Tasmanian experience.
A fav point from us

RLD4963 and I have travelled north from Hobart for a couple of days, and as the day was sunny and warm we decided to head up Ben Lomond whilst the weather was nice.
This earthcache is a lovely break after the drive up Jacob's Ladder!
Really enjoyed this one, a favourite from me.

Today TaurusSix and I made this area our primary target to visit. The rain/cloud obscured the view, so we will need to come back again, but what we could see was spectacular.
We did some research and have sent our results.

We didn’t get any service here today so thank goodness I downloaded on my phone all the coordinates we would need for all the Geos but I forgot to take what else I needed to do for this one so I hope have a photo is sufficient evidence that I was there until later in the year we go back up to play in the snow.
A day out visiting the Ben Lomond area sightseeing and caching.
Interesting but easy drive up and a short walk to the amazing views from here.

We were camping nearby and visited this spot after setting up in the early evening and then returned the next morning. On both visits we were blessed with fantastic weather and stunning views, and it was good to see the difference from the various sun angles. The geology here is fascinating, it almost felt like being on another planet! Thanks for setting up this earthcache - answers sent.

Another trip for the toolman to tassie and we bring him to a CO's cache who was a big part of a memory that we will never forgot.
Last time it was South Cape this time its Bens View, another outstanding cache.

It's been a while since I have done an earthcache. I like this one because it has REAL answers not wishing washy interpretations. It was an odd day on the mountain, great views one minute and then no view at all. When we arrived at the lookout there was nothing to see but after working out the answers it was clear so I snapped a photo looking down at Jacobs Ladder.

A really cool spot to stop and take photos.
After attending my own event this morning up mount Arthur, I was keen to go and collect some unfounded caches, a call to JL rockstar and a plan was made to head to the Fingal valley. A trip around to some mines and not so popular places discovered a lot of untouched history. A few finds for the day with a touch of DNFs along the way.
I am currently writing detailed logs because of a challenge provided by Project-GC. "The Author" Badge challenges geocachers to average one hundred words or more in each log. Given that I have found so many GC caches, I have to write many logs with well over 100 words for a long period of time to get my average to the target. Apologies to anyone who finds the logs tedious but it is the only way that I can strive to attain this challenge. After over 5000 plus caches (which includes all cache finds up and including yesterday), the average log length is just over 70 words. I am now entertaining the possibility that I might be able to achieve my task before the end of next year. It's surprising how much is has increase since doing this.

What a stunning view. We were the only ones up there as it was freezing! We did the summit walk and nearly had to crawl because the wind was so strong. But it was sunny and a real adventure doing it by ourselves. Great info on how Ben Lomond was formed. Tftc!
Checked out Bens view today while chasing the snow. Was veey chilly with an icy breeze, not much snow about though. Great views from the GZ.

Definitely the highlight of todays caching ! Went up to Ben Lomond National Park with my little Toyota Yaris rent-a-car doing a real good job on the steep and curvy gravel road . When arriving up here it was all worth it, beautiful views and a magnificent scenery . Mail has been sent and a favo will be rewarded! Thanks for bringing me here and of course

15:26 we stopped here to enjoy the beautiful view and to find anwers to the Earthcache (information table + hard counting) on our way to the second highest mountain in Tasmania, Legget Tor; excellent day, calm, 24 C, clear blue sky, one of the most beautiful days here; thanks for the cache! Hi there bedmakerTG.
We found your cache **"Bens View"** at 12:02:00 PM today. (This brings our total find count to 18528).
The original plan today was to log a random cache some distance from our camp site, and then find a few more caches using the "next closest" method. We then logged "Ben & Back" & thought why not - we will do that instead - - and we had a great day!
We ended up finding a variety of container types and sizes on our journey & found 15 caches (& DNF'd 0).
Thank you for placing this cache here, without geocaching as our guide we would never have found so many interesting places to visit on our nomadic wander around Australia.
Thanks for the hunt today,
Regards
Ian & Penny.

Last Sunday we visited the Earthcache at Cape Pillar in the far south-east of Tasmania. This Sunday it was the same type of rock and similar formations in the North-east at Ben Lomond. We stayed at Carr Villa where my son was celebrating his 30th birthday with family and friends. On Saturday we walked from Carr Villa to Legges Tor (Tasmania's second highest mountain) and today we returned to the top of Jacobs Ladder to be amazed by the road construction and to collect the required information. This is a truly remarkable area and well worth the visit. TFTC>
Amazing place. Been here twice but this was the first time I got to stop at the lookout. Very glad I did. What a road & what a mountain. TFTC! 0
A nice fine sunny at Ben Lomond today but blowing a gale. Going anywhere near the edge of the viewing platform the wind would push you back. This made it hard to get some pics but I got some. The view was just fantastic. I got down to business and got the needed answers, which have been sent. I enjoyed reading and learning about the formation of Ben Lomond. TFTC.
Ben's View was much like Astro's view. Gob smacking and I think I dribbled enough to wet my shirt. After winding up Jacob's ladder, there were enuf sparks in my brain that the name sakes ladder was an image in my brain. To top it off, I counted the bolts and looked down to see a bike rider sweating the last beer he had skulled out of his forehead. I am imagining that the only thing keeping his brain connected to his legs saying pump was the thought of that cool cool white ice at the top. I moved on to the ice and was careful to poke around in the white stuff. No other colours were spotted.
For the record there were no shops opened. I passed the rider some 30 mins later as he was cycling to the village. He looked way way dehydrated. I told him all the shops were closed. I was the purveyor of bad news...... He was way too dehydrated to cry so I passed him an eclipse mint to suck on. I drove off slowly and never looked back.
Thanks to bedmakerTG and **clear skies** from TeamAstro. [^] Cache the planet!

Love this place. Haven't gotten up here anywhere near enough since moving over a few years ago. I felt so sorry for the bike rider we saw, not like he couldn't see what was coming I guess, but geez you wouldn't catch me even thinking about attempting that climb. Still a bit of snow hanging around and the wildflowers are coming out, so was perfect for showing a mainlander what's in our backyard.
Many thanks bedmakerTG from the Wacky one

Travelling around Australia and spending a few months in Tasmania.

Unfortunately the view wasn't as good as it could be due to smoke from the west and north west coast fires. Nevertheless it was still impressive.

Such a beautiful place to be. And at all times of the year. The views towards Flinders Is. were well worth. Had previously had a picnic right on the lookout before while on a geocaching trip but never looked to see the earth cache. Just had to grab it on my next visit. TFTC
We "climbed the ladder" here at approx 4PM to be greeted with a perfectly still, sunny late afternoon. It would no doubt be a rare treat to experience a day on Ben Lomond with not a breath of wind & we were just slightly annoyed with ourselves for not allowing sufficient time on top for the full experience. However we certainly had the time to enjoy the view, gather the required info, marvel at the vista that surrounded us &, oh yes, enjoy the view a little more. This would be our 21st earthcache & we have enjoyed every single one of them, not only for their eductional value but because they bring us to such magical places. As an additional bonus it becomes our highest cache find to date. Logged with permission. [Blue]Find # 1963. Thanks for the EC bedmaker TNLN.[/Blue]
Went up the hill for a drive this morning the weather wasn't too bad on the way up but as we left the top of the mountain it started closing in so the view from the platform wasn't as great as it could have been

And what a view! The zig-zag route of the road up Jacobs Ladder is an engineering masterpiece. We are impressed. The interpretation signs are very informative and provided most of the answers to the "Down to business" bits and when we got agreement (with Sam Carter counting in a clockwise direction and me counting in an anticlockwise direction) we completed the task. I LOVE dolerite ... and there's an awful lot of it up here! I love the crags and the columns and the boulder fields (except when trying to clamber over them) ... and I love seeing it all on a gloriously sunny day like today. I learned a few things doing this cache, and that's always an added bonus. Thanks for the cache, bedmaker.
It wasn't until I got here that I really felt I was on holiday, Love this spot. TFTC

Our first earth cache (and CO approved to log). Thank you to the CO for giving us an excuse to stop and contemplate. Great weather, unfortunately no pics as battery chose this moment to give up! Still we have the memories and our extra information. Thanks again
Back again, this time to get the answer to question 3, after having completely overlooked this last one on my last visit. The weather, again, was cold, windy and a bit damp, but lots of fun for the kids (Beth and Jeremy) who had tagged along for the drive. We wandered around the village for a bit, then headed back to Launceston.

Logged with permission. We always like a good earth cache and came to the Lomond for this one. The views on the way in are fantastic and the amount of large scree is impressive. The weather was clear, sunny, almost no wind and 4 Deg C. The twist road up jacobs ladder looks like one of those old european roads up a pass except this is gravel. Great views from up top and interesting to learn of its formation. A fav pt from us. TFTEC

The weather looked quite threatening as we headed towards Ben Lomond but the conditions meant that there were no others in the area, especially on Jacobs Ladder. After collecting the required information, taking the photo and admiring the views (both landscape and geological), we headed back down. About half way down the skies cleared very quickly to a perfect day - we would have got a much better photo if we had been an hour later, but, that life. Although we had been to the lookout before, we enjoyed this visit as we saw things we had missed previously. We picked a great day to visit the mountain. Clear skies provided panoramic views from GZ Taking in Mt Strzelecki and Flinders Island. After finding the required answers and enjoying the view we visited the ski village and ate our lunch. A bonus was seeing snow. Thanks bedmaker and Tassiegirl for bringing us here and for the cache.
