The grass on the way to this cache was so long, it didnt even look like a trail leading up.
I'm down in Auckland for a geocaching weekend with Yvettetb. She wanted to go geocaching for her birthday and I wanted to get some big numbers to bring my December tally up. Today's plan was to do the walks in Long Bay Regional Park as well as a few others enroute. We walked 18.7Kms and got 30 or so caches. It was a good bit of exercise and quite productive cachewise too. I didn't make any sense of the title here. There wasn't even really a track up to this area and there wasn't an end as such either. We hunted around the traps and the little puriri tree which is being smothered by kaikuyu and a vine but couldn't find the cache. Thanks anyway
Unfortunately no Endgame for us today We had a good hunt around however couldn't find any sign of the Endgame so will need to come back another time to explore.
After not being able to do the walk I wanted I came here and spent 1/2 a day navigating about finding caches and clicking up the step counter. Thanks for all the yellow smiles!
Out and about on our bikes today and finding fun in all sorts of places. Wet & slippy track here still, after cyclone Gabrielle, so we stashed the bikes and continued on foot. Trailed through thigh high grass (this wet summer has been a boon for growing grass) and into the bush. Hmmm. About all I can think was that this particular pile of wood was at the end of it's life. Damp and earthy and not about to give up it's secrets. Well hidden by the last finder. Cache is all good. TFTC
The start of the grass track up here was pretty mushy but thanks to the sun over the last few days, the higher up we went the drier it got. Got to GZ and like the last cacher wondered where the end could be. Finally spotted something in the deep grass which might have an end. So whilst GeohoundandI was taking pictures of a stick insect with her new camera I was tasked with rummaging around for a cache. No luck at the end I started at and I was just about to give up when I spotted something cache like.
Signed the log and replaced it with a bit of camo to protect it from the sun.

No luck with this one. End?? End of what?! (I'll be back - and it's great to see this track open again.)
Nice - washed the blood off my leg from blackberry at the previous cache on the wet grass finding this one. Thanks!
Headed on up to Long Bay today after an earlier attempt ended in a blown heater hose, resulting in an overheated mode of transport....then the next 4 hours were spent sorting out a tow etc...... Today was a much more successful trip......
Parked up and took the bikes for a jaunt around the park.....

Followed the hint and very quickly had it in hand.
Had a read of the log going all the way back to 2013.
Unfortunately the log was full.
Popped a fresh one in.
Hope this one lasts just as long.

Happily strolled through a small portion of the bush here which provided some much wanted shade, before veering left up the hill to this cache. Upon arriving at GZ, I didn't notice anywhere to realistically place a cache, and spent quite a bit of time searching for this one! Into the bush I went and out again, and in and out but eventually I retraced my steps back to where I started and found the cache nicely tucked away in it's hidey hole.
If the cache title is referring to Avengers: Endgame, I'm not a big fan at all! Always have disliked movies, and in particular marvel movies as I can't stand sitting still for long periods of time... Hence my passion for geocaching TFTC G-2!
Super keen to collect some more caches and head out on a trip somewhere, I decided I'd bus up to Long Bay Regional Park and collect some of my unfound caches around the area this afternoon. It was a nice day for it - Not too hot, not too cold and ended up collecting exactly 20 geocaches over the course of nearly 6 hours on foot! No wonder I'm feeling absolutely finished right now, and especially because of some of the demanding terrain in the regional park. Thanks very much to all CO's who made this an enjoyable day for me

Didn't think we were going to find this one but we persevered and 9 year old eventually spied it out. Great hide. Thank you .
Nice hide here. The log needs replacing, sorry no spare log with us today. Liked the title Thanks G-2.
A nice diversion off this side route, soon at GZ and cache was soon in hand. Retrieved a Geocoin and a pathtag, one of two found today. All good and replaced as found.
After the couple of hours of mingling, chatting and 'hosting', everyone dispersed to their own plans and agendas and I had a plan to head to the end of the track and back, caching as I went (of course). I reckon it took me a full 2 hours to get to tracks end, but only 40 minutes from there back to the car. The sun was out, and so were the other walkers but all good and not seen by anyone for any caches, super-stealth mode.
Quite an interesting geocaching day for me today in a number of ways. First up I'm hosting my awarded Celebration Event at Long Bay after the Covid-spoiling one was cancelled at Hobsonville a while back. And that also means I get to attend/find my first cache-type of Celebration event, a new cache Icon. And best of all I get to meet the geocaching community up here in the mi8ghty Auckland area. I've cached here (in moderation) a few times over the last 13 years of living here in NZ, but never lived in the 'big smoke'. That all changed a couple of ,months ago and suddenly this target rich environment is starting to bear fruit (caches).
So, I was out of the house at around 0630 this morning with a wish to get some in before event a clock, which was all good as I managed a few finds early doors. All up today I managed just over 60 finds which was good, and after a misty start the sun attended and all was good, and hot. A D5 cache, meeting some new friends and a decent 15km walk was testament to a successful day, and a Silverdale Burger Fuel for a feed too, awesome-ness was experienced. I even managed to knock off the last few Smile puzzle finals to make my round face beam (geo-icon, not my real face!) T F T C all COs today.

Out at the community celebration event today. This is one of the caches I grabbed while here.
Decided to do a loop with Tramyard to do some caches we both needed and then headed off on a run by myself to get all the caches around the long bay point.
Thanks to all the COs who placed caches here!
Lots of ants here today!

Was enjoying the views along the track & overshot the track to GZ. Turned back & then found my way to GZ. Nice quick find in a quiet spot. TFTC
Nice and easy walk thru the bush (for our son, he walked thru the bush and then found out that you could go around ) Nice and easy find.

Great spot! At the end is a good clue! Left some swapables for the next peeps!
Originally walked passed it, but after some confusion went back and found the barely existant trail that lead us to the cache. Tftc
Log is full but squeezed mine and K-Adventures names on there just, good spot though it took a while hunting through the bush to get to the right place
Found this quickly, but had to wait for a group of muggles to traverse the rugged terrain before diving in and picking it up. Great hide here with some more stunning views! Log is full & damp, but managed to fit my name on the bottom. TFTC!
As it was a long weekend and today being better weather than yesterday, work having been done around the house it was a chance to get out and find the odd cache in the company of 11HPG11.
Today we managed to find a grand total of 58 caches with only 9 DNF's along the way, and even managed to be home by 4,30pm so as not to annoy Mrs Dragon too much (although privately I believe that she may rather enjoy a day at home without an annoying husband being about the house).
Setting out from Hamilton nice and early meant that we managed to locate quite a few caches without any traffic to contend with, in fact Auckland is rather pleasant at this time of the day without both people and vehicles to contend with.
It has been possibly 5-6 years since I had cached in the Long Bay Regional Park so today it was a chance for a bit of a wander and see what we could gather without too much effort. area.Nice little stop here for a quick find and we were off once again.
Thank you to all the CO's for their hard work in making this day possible, in both the placing the caches and maintaining them. We both had a great day.

When Cats&Dragons suggested a day in Auckland collecting a few caches I was very keen. When I checked the weather forecast I wasn't quite as keen. Determined to stay dry I packed all my wet weather gears and my gumboots. Was happily surprised to not need any of this and we were treated to a stunning day of great weather and great caches. Logs were signed with either HOAC or a combination of our names.
Slowly getting our way around the park and grabbing some more caches. Fantastic day and only a few muggles to contend with.

On a sunny Sunday we returned to Long Bay for a short walk. We often walked here in 2016 but were still muggles back then. If only we had known what we missed out on!
Gps on phone was a bit lost here so after a dive into the bushes we returned to the path and found the cache in good condition. Tftc!

Second visit in Long Bay. Last time decided to skip this part of the park. Nice to be back on not so hot day. Still warm and I enjoyed my Sunday stroll here. Looks like container was not closed properly and become home for 100K ants .... Before signed log had to remove them on the grass. It took a bit .... TFTC
Short stroll off the muddy path it was not bad up here and ground was a lot firmer. Cache was exactly where the coordinates took us. TFTC.
One of half of team Tuolei and Bennett24 ventured to get this one while others sensibly left us to it. I could probably also have left everyone to it as the pattern of me frankly not being very useful all day continued at the find was made. Certainly nice here and unlike much of the rest of Long Bay you get a bit of the place to yourself as even in August it's a busy park - possibly because so many other parks are closed to walking.
Another find for the team and all present and correct here, thanks for the cache.

Almost completed my walk round the Park this morning and I find myself here for a nice quick find. NB: The log is now full. TFTC
Now that the Waitakeres has been closed off we have to work out way through the regional parks instead. Out for a walk with muggle friends and hoping to find all the caches placed since my last visit. The track around to here was fairly muddy but the wet long grass on the diversion to the cache cleaned off most of the mud. TFTC
A small deviation from the track through the long grass gave us soaking wet pants but also a successful cache find which made it worthwhile. We were hoping to see a possum like the last finder but there were none in residence today. TFTC.
Just as I got to this one we came across a possum. Follow geo trail straight to cache. This one also had water in it. Tftc
Fridays are my adventure day with Mr 4 so I decided to take him to Long Bay to do some caching... or 'treasure hunting' as he calls it I was aware that there is a nudist beach at the Northern end so didn't take him that far
This was the fourth find of the day. I could see where the cache would be... it was just a bit of a mission for Mr 4 to get there in the very long grass It was a quick find once at GZ but there were ants all over the place, TFTC!

Out and about today taking complete advantage of the bright and clear day to hike around Long Bay Regional Park. It has been about five years since my last adventure round these parts. On that occasion I had Ross and FMZ for company; solo trip today. The trail petered out as I approached GZ and the Kikuyu grass got even longer. Still, it was clear where the cache would be and there it was. Now, do I retrace my steps and rejoin the 100 acre track and then the main coastal track...no! Where is the adventure in that? No, I am going to attempt some cross country navigation, heading for the northern end of the park and the two caches out that way. Wish me luck!
Heading out early to Long Bay today with yorkshirekiwi83 to hit some of our unfound caches on the coastal walk before meeting up with some friends for a day at the beach. Another quick and straightforward find here, really enjoying this track. Thanks for the hide!
Aiden29 and I made this one far harder than it should have been. There's a huge ant nest here and gee, they bite! We were almost ready to admit defeat when I had another look in one of the first places I had looked and found the cache, not sure why I missed it first time round!
Merlot58 and I pretty much figured out where this would be located on approach. However, finding it was not as easy. Plenty of ants here made the search slightly more difficult. We were almost ready to give up when merlot put her hand on the cache. How had we missed that earlier?!
Walking to GZ under the Manuka tree and the buzz from the many bees busy around. Quick find, a bit of water in the container but the waterproof log works the treat, TFTC
When we made the detour off the trail towards GZ we quickly spotted something that made sense of the cache name. Headed over to it and this time one of us had to show the grandchildren the cache. Thanks.
I walked right past the turnoff and had to backtrack 20m. There were no fences here, so I wondered what the hint could mean. I found that something and the cache quickly thereafter. TFTC.
Today it was my very first day at New Zealand and in the afternoon I decided to do a little walk at Long Bay Regional park. And it was a pleasure! What a lovely landscape! But it was funny, because you can find nearly the same in southern England. Only the plants are a little bit different.
But I enjoyed every moment and I' also was glad to pick up 14 caches (out of 20 I tried). Usually my hit ratio is higher, but for the first day in a foreign country (and a 24 hour flight) it was quite okay.
Thanks a lot for all the caches and greetings from Germany.
dG
I had a couple of hours to spare for a bit of a walkabout finding a few caches round here. Very hot and humid today so it was sticky work. This was as far as I was going in this direction today. No problems finding the cache but as noted it seems to be in an ants nest so I had to deal with some creepy crawlies before I could sign the log. TFTC, Biggles.
So i made it to GZ and the first thing i notice is the ants! crawling around everywhere. found the cache and that was full of ants... shook out the log and that was covered in ants... signed put away and continued on my travels... still feel like i'm covered with ants thought...
I was following Witchegurl's trail today ! It helped on a few of these 4 caches to see where people had walked through the grass ! I was also covered in ants and ant eggs ! Gave the container a good bang and all gone now .....Put a toy cow in there instead !
Schools out for summer. Kiwiscot & friends enjoying an afternoon caching at Long Bay. Took us a few minutes but we eventually got to the end of it. TFTC
The local Pukeko was not pleased to see us. Glad we do not understand their language. The series of squawks coming from its beak sounded rather expletive laden. Of course Kiwiscot & friends felt the need to respond with their own squawks. Not sure what any passer-by's would have made of this racket. Glad when the Puke decided it was time to retreat.

Another favourite spot, with sweeping views over towards Tiri Tiri Matangi, with the water sparkling blue. Diversion well worth the effort, the GPS and hint perfect, and cache was in good condition.
Our group from the West are slow and steady, enjoying exploring a part of the park not visited before. A combined effort from rebel98, Gorby and harisree

Awesome views here, too I thought. About my only thought too - apart from the decon from Woolongong!
Today we had an awesome day of caching with fellow cachers rebel98, rustynz and gorby. it turned out to be very productive and full of fun. energy draining out bit here and there, but all these wonderful caches are helping us to keep the spirits high. tftc.
Another nice quick find on our long bay adventure in the sun! TFTC and placing it in a place with such stunning views
Found with Onawe. Was busy talking about what the GPS was saying when Onawe piped up with found it. Nice view from up here
Much easier off track to get to this than Pukeko's nest. Great views at the top too. With beconaze enjoying the reserve today. TFTC
Another nice quick find here as we made our way around on these trails on a warm summer afternoon. TFTC glyn!
Joined up with Yorkshirekiwi83 to re-visit the Long Bay trail and find some of the newer caches out this way. Soon had the cache in hand here - a lot of ant activity nearby! TFTC@
On another lovely Sunday, out with Vistra to collect some caches at Long Bay, we found parking easily enough but it was still morning and the crowds hadnt gathered yet.
Walked along different paths around Long Bay this time and it was quite refreshing.
Wow what a lot of ants, thankfully they had their own plans and stayed well away from me. TFTC

Found while out for a walk with Mrs McMike2012 on Labour Day Monday ... weather forecast wasn't looking that good before we started but it ended up being a pleasant day, albeit with a cool breeze blowing in exposed areas. 5th of 11 caches for the day. Off the beaten track to get to this one but easy enough in the end & soon had it to hand. TN:LN:SL. TFTC. #647 for us.
Had only done a small portion of this trail last time we were here to great to do the entire loop this time. TFTC
Found it. Great view. Turns out the Muggles tracking us are ex-cachers. They new exactly what we were up to
Out grabbing the Long Bay series today. The weather is now awesome!! Logged as Team Smilie.
Nice quick find. Thank you.
Find #486. Thanks for the cache. 2/06/2014 12:12

We overshot the side trail but figured out our mistake. Nice easy find in the end.
Spotted the likely place as I approached and was rewarded with a quick find. TFTC.
Out for a day of caching with Lycurgon, had tried to come down to Long Bay a few weeks ago but traffic was horrendous . Much better today thankfully TFTC
Kids took the short jungle path. Parents chose the somewhat longer gras path. United at the END.
Ironically Rich and I had been taking about spies and such in Central Asia and then the name of this cache came up... Nice quick find during a break in the weather. t4tc
Went around a wee bit before finding the right way there. Tea-tree looks dense from some angles, but no need for that. I'd like to come back in 100 years to see it all grown up. Cheers for the cache.
Out with my sister soaking up the sun, trying to put a dent in some of the long bay caches. This was the seventh one.
Having fun walking along the surprisingly springy grass on this track, we ventured off in search of this cache. My sister apparently wanted to see what all the caching fun was about and decided to come with me to grab this one. Or it could just have been because there was no bench at this one.
Made the way up the hill easily then lost the track and wondered round in knee high springy grass until we found it again. I don't like to think about how many insects we must have disturbed.
Had a bit of trouble at GZ since the GPS was bouncing around. Had a look in a couple of spots a few times before we found it.
Had to be quick retrieving the cache since there was lots of ants around. Signed and replace .
