Had a rest at the picnic table then checked out the big trees. Somebody has built a small shelter out of logs, sticks and stuff. Maybe they used the cache because I couldn't find it.
Headed on up to Long Bay today after an earlier attempt ended in a blown heater hose, resulting in an overheated mode of transport....then the next 4 hours were spent sorting out a tow etc...... Today was a much more successful trip......
Parked up and took the bikes for a jaunt around the park.....
Fav. point for this one...great camo....

Looks like I'm the first one out here since the trail reopen.
Cach is safe and dry.
Not much of a view to nite.
Just some glow worms on the distance.
Thanks for keeping this going G-2.

This trail is closed at both ends until February 2022, so the caches along here can't currently be accessed.
Wow what a stunning place to hide a cache. Would never have come here if it had not been for this hide. We were looking around the wrong tree to begin with but soon eagle eyed husband had spotted the treasure. Very nicely camoflauged. Thanks!
Found with SquishyD and MischiefD as our last cache today. Lived the geoflage and the views. TFTC
Lovely wee find. Note to oneself. Bring a compass..... I went right around the whole tree. lol
After seeing a likely hiding spot I searched the area only to find I already took put the cache! Quite funny! Great clue made a quick find! TFTC
Showers of ran coming over but still mostly sunny great to be out and about. Great hide here loved the cammo. Thanks G-2.
Headed along the formed trail then saw the animal trail/geo-trail and headed towards the host. Nice camo here, found in the second item of interest.
After the couple of hours of mingling, chatting and 'hosting', everyone dispersed to their own plans and agendas and I had a plan to head to the end of the track and back, caching as I went (of course). I reckon it took me a full 2 hours to get to tracks end, but only 40 minutes from there back to the car. The sun was out, and so were the other walkers but all good and not seen by anyone for any caches, super-stealth mode.
Quite an interesting geocaching day for me today in a number of ways. First up I'm hosting my awarded Celebration Event at Long Bay after the Covid-spoiling one was cancelled at Hobsonville a while back. And that also means I get to attend/find my first cache-type of Celebration event, a new cache Icon. And best of all I get to meet the geocaching community up here in the mi8ghty Auckland area. I've cached here (in moderation) a few times over the last 13 years of living here in NZ, but never lived in the 'big smoke'. That all changed a couple of ,months ago and suddenly this target rich environment is starting to bear fruit (caches).
So, I was out of the house at around 0630 this morning with a wish to get some in before event a clock, which was all good as I managed a few finds early doors. All up today I managed just over 60 finds which was good, and after a misty start the sun attended and all was good, and hot. A D5 cache, meeting some new friends and a decent 15km walk was testament to a successful day, and a Silverdale Burger Fuel for a feed too, awesome-ness was experienced. I even managed to knock off the last few Smile puzzle finals to make my round face beam (geo-icon, not my real face!) T F T C all COs today.

Out at the community celebration event today. This is one of the caches I grabbed while here.
Decided to do a loop with Tramyard to do some caches we both needed and then headed off on a run by myself to get all the caches around the long bay point.
Thanks to all the COs who placed caches here!
Very nice camo on this one!

Oh my god! Finally after 2 visits to this site we found the cache. Fantastic hiding and camo! Thank you!
We found it it was very good disguise my little sister found the log it was on but I found the real thing it was odd. Lyle’s
Almost made a meal of this one. My maps showed a track through the "forest". Decided I would skip it & so walked on & then suddenly it all became clear as to where I was actually meant to gain access to GZ. Nice quick find. Great camo. TFTC
Nice camo here! Nice and easy find, nice going out and having a good time geocaching! Thanks.

After abandoning a couple of caches to find at the end of the walk due to muggles, it was nice to find this one! Definitely hunted around the wrong tree for a little too long, but upon stepping back and taking a different approach, the cache was quickly in hand. Another brilliant camo, TFTC!
As it was a long weekend and today being better weather than yesterday, work having been done around the house it was a chance to get out and find the odd cache in the company of 11HPG11.
Today we managed to find a grand total of 58 caches with only 9 DNF's along the way, and even managed to be home by 4,30pm so as not to annoy Mrs Dragon too much (although privately I believe that she may rather enjoy a day at home without an annoying husband being about the house).
Setting out from Hamilton nice and early meant that we managed to locate quite a few caches without any traffic to contend with, in fact Auckland is rather pleasant at this time of the day without both people and vehicles to contend with.
It has been possibly 5-6 years since I had cached in the Long Bay Regional Park so today it was a chance for a bit of a wander and see what we could gather without too much effort. area. Collected this at the begining off our little loop walk through the park, just having to keep an eye out for wandering muggles through the area.
Thank you to all the CO's for their hard work in making this day possible, in both the placing the caches and maintaining them. We both had a great day.

When Cats&Dragons suggested a day in Auckland collecting a few caches I was very keen. When I checked the weather forecast I wasn't quite as keen. Determined to stay dry I packed all my wet weather gears and my gumboots. Was happily surprised to not need any of this and we were treated to a stunning day of great weather and great caches. Logs were signed with either HOAC or a combination of our names.
A quick find here while I was catching my breath... puff puff up the hill. Some amazing views from up here

On a sunny Sunday we returned to Long Bay for a short walk. We often walked here in 2016 but were still muggles back then. If only we had known what we missed out on! Excellent camo gets a fav point, all is good. Tftc!
Second visit in Long Bay. Last time decided to skip this part of the park. Nice to be back on not so hot day. Still warm and I enjoyed my Sunday stroll here. Nice hide!
Today my lovely wife had an appointment with a group at Long Bay. So naturally I decided to tag along for the ride to see if I could grab a cache or two while she fulfilled her obligations. When we arrived it was quite sunny and so she dropped me off and I began my quest on foot. It turned out I really liked where this trail ended up... and would never have been here if it wasn't for me finding this cache. So the log book has been signed and the cache is nicely back in its spot all ready for the next geo-hunter. Thank you G-2 for taking the time to set up this cache. I really appreciate your efforts in doing so. This one gets a favourite point from me.
Found with Tuolei, Tinytree and friend, the girls picked this one up and then were trying to tempt them to put there hands in the hole to find the cache. Tuolei explained how good the camo was to them as he had spotted the hide. Cache is in good condition which is more than what could be said for the tracks around here. TFTC.
Third cache of the day and a nice one for our young muggle friend to find and take a look at since it was the work of the camo-master. Much time spent staring at cache without realising that that was indeed the object we were looking for. Clever work as always, G--2.
Bennett24 did the signing duties here again and shortly we worked out that this trail mostly goes through lovely winter mud but also takes you to some nice views. And a bit more mud. In fact the mud was peckish and attempted to eat Tinytree24's shoes at one point. Apparently my suggestion of a name change to Stinkyfeet24 will not be going ahead. Pity.
Thanks for the cache, all good here.

Now that the Waitakeres has been closed off we have to work out way through the regional parks instead. Out for a walk with muggle friends and hoping to find all the caches placed since my last visit. Short diversion from the track to a spot with good views of the boats out sailing. TFTC
What awesome camo, we know to expect the unexpected with any G-2 cache but this had us fooled at first glance. Closer inspection however revealed the well concealed container.
A definite favourite point from us. We almost decided not to come down this trail but this cache made it worthwhile.

This was the best. Had me fooled. Picked it up a couple times before I realised it was the cache. great camo. TFTC
Cache 5 of 5 for the day
Taking family friends out geocaching for the first time.
They had no idea what they were looking at for this one, Never seen anything like it, so I had to show them what it was and how it worked.
Sign and replace then on to the next one

Fridays are my adventure day with Mr 4 so I decided to take him to Long Bay to do some caching... or 'treasure hunting' as he calls it I was aware that there is a nudist beach at the Northern end so didn't take him that far
This was the number 2 find of the day... some good views from up here but Mr 4 was far more riveted by all the construction work going on close to GZ. Hmmmmm, not sure how that will impact the reserve. Love the camo on this cache, TFTC!

Out and about today enjoying the fine weather and a walk around Long Bay Regional Park. Of course, I stopped at the newer caches that have been placed since my last wandering. Where does this trail go? Allegedly back to the main trail, but it kinda petered out on me. But not before I found the caches along the route. Quickly spotted the well crafted camo on this one and completed the formalities. The Kikuyu grass is long around these parts. Cheers for the cache placement!
Heading out early to Long Bay today with yorkshirekiwi83 to hit some of our unfound caches on the coastal walk before meeting up with some friends for a day at the beach. Another quick and straightforward find here. The track was pretty quiet at this time of the day! Thanks for the hide.
New Year's Eve walk at Long Bay and picked up a couple of caches along the way. Forgot pen but this one had a pencil so were able to sign at least one of them.
Aiden29 and I headed to Long Bay to collect the caches in the park. We thought we'd see where this trail went first and once at GZ quickly found the stash mentioned in previous logs. On further investigation we also found the cache which had been hiding the stash. Nice one
Made plans for today to conquer Long Bay Reserve with merlot58. We took the trail and had to avoid many boggy patches on the walk to GZ. I found the previously mentioned baggy of the lighter and pipe, and thought this can't possibly be the cache. Not sure if this is the greatest red herring or this is the biggest coincidence that someone is hiding their stash right by a geocache. Further investigation turned up the well camo'd cache container.
A very nice camo and a good placement with a nice view on the Waitemata Harbour, TFTC
Walked past this one just after dark on Sunday, heading back to the carpark.
Nice easy find today in daylight, great use of local camo.
Had to laugh at the pipe and lighter also stashed in the hide. Not your usual swappable swag items, LOL

Out for another afternoon adventure with three of the grandchildren. Drove to the end of the Long Bay carpark and headed up the hill on the coastal trail. Our target today is to do the 100 Acre loop track. Rather wet out along this grass trail at this time of year - definitely gumboot territory. Its just a shame that one of us wasn't wearing his!
Followed this little trail to see where it goes. Set the kids searching around the tree and let them make the find. Turned up a plastic bag with what looks like someones smoking stash - with your cache being used to hide it!
Then it was time for a bit of tree climbing before we got back to cache finding. Thanks.

I thought I had seen enough G-2 caches, but I still got fooled on this one. Once I couldn't find anything in the spot I was sure the cache was hidden, I took stock of what I had and found the cache. TFTC.
Second visit and a successful find. First attempt was thwarted by a swarm of wasps. This time they are nowhere in sight. Brilliant camo !
Today it was my very first day at New Zealand and in the afternoon I decided to do a little walk at Long Bay Regional park. And it was a pleasure! What a lovely landscape! But it was funny, because you can find nearly the same in southern England. Only the plants are a little bit different.
But I enjoyed every moment and I' also was glad to pick up 14 caches (out of 20 I tried). Usually my hit ratio is higher, but for the first day in a foreign country (and a 24 hour flight) it was quite okay.
Thanks a lot for all the caches and greetings from Germany.

I had a couple of hours to spare for a bit of a walkabout finding a few caches round here. Very hot and humid today so it was sticky work. Luckily this one didn't take too long to find. TFTC, Biggles.
Tftc was a nice place to have a little break on the way back to the carpark. love the camo work, very nice.
This was another cool Glyn camo ! Thanks ! Really hot out caching today ......
Schools out for summer. Kiwiscot & friends enjoying an afternoon caching at Long Bay. We have had fun finding where part of this trail goes. On the homeward journey now. Another good camo job. TFTC
This turned out to be my favourite hide for the day! the best camo I thought. Whilst Gorby went to the right, I raced him to the left to find the cache first
Our group gathered around the log, and we all signed the log. Thanks for the hide, these amazing views, and for bringing us up here to admire them.

mrs h was feeding baby, when the group headed to find this one. after mr.s had signed the log, and the cache has been placed back, mrs h wanted to find this one, just to see its excellent camo. good effort. tftc +one fav from us.
Came by with rustynz, Rebel98 and the really keen harisee family. No worries with them pushing the pram over the grass, like a bulldozer they were, nothing gets in the way of progressing to a cache! Where does this trail go? Well, I'm glad you asked! we all found out, to a cache off course! Not just any cache either, a nicely camoed cache, made by the camoed-cache king!
Rusty thought she'd beat me to finding the cache - she did! I thought I might have to have a wrestle with her for it, but thought better of it....

Cool camo! Nice quick find for this one. Spending the afternoon collecting caches in long bay while the sun shines TFTC
Teehee Mr beconaze was standing there saying its been muggled, this is the most obvious place etc. Onawe then had a look and found it in the same place immediately

Love the camo on this one! Out with beconaze who managed to completely miss this one even after picking it up!
A quick find here on our way along this new trail we'd never ventured along before. Very nice camo used here thanks glyn
On a fantastic walk along Long Bay's Nature Trail I had to take my time to find this one - but finally made it!
Had the impression that the D-rating is probably a little bit too low?
Anyway: This installation is really great and deserves "blue" [^]!
TFTC & cheers from Germany!
