Today we went on a hike to Mount Ainslie with our holiday dog Ziggy. We took the more leisurely way up and then made our way back almost in the fall line. On the way there were a few Tradis, a Wherigo and a Virtual to collect. Thank you for the caches, which made our hike more varied.

#3251 I think the last time I picked up a bubble & squeak cache it was on the side of Black Mountain, and this cache took a similar amount of cardio to reach from below. Found well in good condition. Cheers b&s!!

Perfect direction to start heading back down after a loop hike around Mt Ainslie (hill). Tftc

I went around in circles homing in on GZ for this one. Not sure if it was the GPS playing up or my own fatigue from a day up and down the mountain (I came here via almost the top from Ainslie Quarry on the other side). But once I'd honed in, I made a quick find.

So peaceful sitting here alone. Fantastic. TFTC.

12-Oct-20
Found on a pleasant weekday ramble around the western slopes of Ainslie with the GeoHound. This was a nice heartstarting climb up from the Hometown Ramble series on the lower slopes. A straightforward find at GZ - thank you!

18-Jul-20
I was out on Mt Ainslie to target a pair of caches I have had my on for some time. It was a steep afternoon, but I made it to the puzzle and multi I was after and even managed a traverse around to a traditional that was not too far away. Back up was a challenge in the gloom of the early evening, but it was a great view out over Canberra. Lots of people up the top doing the sunset thing.

Thanks for the cache bubble & squeak

Our niece was in town and wanted to hike up one of the local hills. We chose this one and I found a few caches along the way. TFTH

22-Feb-20
Oh dear... I was in Canberra to speak at the Australian Microscopy and Microanalysis Conference in February...
But I got a TB at my event and the holder of it kept promising they would 'drop it tomorrow'. In the end I grabbed it, but by then my schedule had become fairly hectic at work so I logged a few caches but not all of them. And then COVID-19 hit full on (there was already body temperature screening when I arrived back in South Africa), and then work got even more crazy. And then we got locked down and work stayed crazy shifting to remote teaching. And now we are allowed to exercise a short window in the morning and I found a nearby newish cache so now I have a very good motivation to finally catch up with logging, more than two months after the find...

I met Lisa here who was surprised to find someone on this trail, which she hikes often. I explained about caching and how it takes you to off the beaten path places, and she helped me reach GZ and might have her own account by now!

Nice views from here and a bit up! tftc

Big cairn. Great spot. Tftc.

29-Sep-19
My second consecutive afternoon of wandering around the base of Mt Ainslie clearing green things off my geocaching map. In this part of the series I got to pretend I was climbing local mountains by finding caches named after those mountains, which is of course much easier than actually climbing the mountains (though I have actually climbed each of them in the past, so that makes it OK. Plus I climbed Mt Ainslie today as well, just because).

So, this is the part where I deviate from the generic logs for the other caches (and instead of a small number of semi-generic logs for these). While walking peacefully and easily around the pleasant tracks at the base of Mt Ainslie I made the mistake of looking at the geocaching map. There, far from the easy base caches (but not quite far enough...) green icons taunted me. These were caches that had been on my radar (so to speak; Mt Ainslie not having the kind of radar its next door neighbour mountain does) for a long while. Today, I decided, was the day to clear them off.

From the easy paths of the base I took off up the side of the mountain. It's not the biggest mountain around, of course, but it is quite steep once you go straight up the side. Which is what I did. I duly found this and two other caches, leaving myself weary but satisfied. Such is the way of geocaching... TFTC Smile

There are cairns and there are piles. Tftc

25-Jul-19
Time to clear out some long awaited finds on Mt Ainslie that have been haunting me for years! I have been all over this hill numerous times collecting caches and doing multi's but there always seems to be so many left to grab, it really is quite a workout!

Managed to grab 8 caches today, which took me just under 2 hours. Decided that was a good haul and left the rest for another day.... not going to leave them another 5 years this time! Razz

---

Heading back up the steep hill towards my car at the top and this was the last cache for today! Was happy to join a path again after finding it too!

After reading the hint it was a quick find, all in good condition.

Thanks B&S

Had a day off, the weather was beautiful and I wanted to go for a hike... what more could you ask for? Oh, and there is that Mystery at the Museum that I hadn't finished yet! Hadn't cleared Mount Ainslie yet so it was the target for today. Started at 11, finished at 4:30 with all finds! Thanks to all the cache owners for the amazing variety of hides and field puzzles!

04-Jul-19
Thanks for encouraging me to continue my walk up the hill. I might have given up without caches along the way.

03-Jul-19
Not sure when I last went caching, this was a nice find near a track I was already taking.

26-Jun-19
Found at 12:56:00 PM

Went for a lunchtime run to see how far up this track I could get in 25 minutes from Braddon. After I stopped I checked to see how far away this cache was. 35m! Bonus.

Thanks bubble & squeak

19-Apr-19
Day 3 of our trip to Queanbeyan/Canberra for the Clear Waters Mega Event. After spending the morning at Googong Dam completing the Queen Power Trail series, we headed back in closer to Canberra to find a few caches on Mt Ainslie in the afternoon. We approached this one from above, which was interesting because it meant the walk back to the car was straight uphill. It was a nice quick find at GZ. The walk back to GZ was good aerobic exercise!!

16-Apr-19
We'd been heading down, then up, and across Mt Ainslie grabbing a few caches, and stupidly having not have breakfast, I was beginning to feel a bit average. We did the last bit of down to this cache, then I waved the white flag and we returned to the top to admire the views before heading off in search of a bakery. TFTC

16-Apr-19
Dez (JezNDez), Lennondayz29 and I headed off on Friday from Brisbane, making our leisurely way south towards the Mega event in Queanbeyan. After finally arriving in Canberra yesterday, today was our first full day of caching in the ACT prior to the start of the event. We have been truly fortunate with the weather on our trip so far, yet another cracking autumn day with sun shining and blue skies.

A problem with my car's auxiliary battery saw a tweak to the running order of our to-do list, in order to fit in a visit to an auto electrician, but this was one of the caches we managed to visit on an early morning drive up Mt Ainslie. Having contoured around from the south to reach a nearby cache, Dez and I decided to continue the descent to this cache before heading back up to the look out to enjoy the views on offer there. No problem with thefind, and the logbook was duly signed TFTC

Bit of a scramble, great bush scenery, fresh air, exercise... love it. TFTC

Last of the Amaroo Scout troupe caches, it took as much time and energy coming back down as it did getting up. Great views.

Lucky last before heading back for dinner tonight. It seemed to take ages to get to GZ from the last find but once there, I soon spotted the camo and was signing the logbook not long after at 17:20.

TNLNSL, although our BYO pen geocoin had a visit to mark the occasion. Thanks bubble & squeak.

We had a great hike to this one today and even saw an Echidna along the path. The exercise felt good and Dino enjoyed the nice hike.

Thank you bubble & squeak for putting the cache out and maintaining it.

11-Oct-18
I was out for a walk getting some exercise with D, who'd already found this cache. We started with finding a nearby, just off the walking path, that I'd already done, and then we sidled along the mountainside until we got close to GZ. Unfortunately neither of our GPSs were settling down, but there was an obvious spot and soon I had CIH. We then got some serious exercise going up the mountain through the bush. TFTC.

01-Oct-18
I hadn't been up Mount Ainslie in a long time, but the other weekend I decide to climb up from the base, and take some geocaches on the way.

... Not sure where the "meadow" is here, but it was a nice little detour from the path, a fair workout and (thanks to the hint) an easy find.

TFTC!

17-Sep-18
I headed off early for the Monday evening Omnia walk to Mount Ainslie which gave me two hours in which to seek out the remaining traditional geocaches on the Civic side of the mountain that I hadn’t previously found. I collected four in all. I walked 5.8km, climbed 323m and came to appreciate the casuarina groves and the many fine views over the airport, the lake and North Canberra.
This cache was a straightforward find, being in an obvious spot on the coordinates. Thank you bubble & squeak for installing and maintaining this cache.

07-Sep-18
A nice out of the way spot and an easy find... when you stop looking at your gps and use your eyes (note to self).

An early star to our day with Wilbert67. We decided to collect a couple of cache in the hill before moving on to easier once down further.. TFTC

06-Sep-17
I am not sure I did this in the right direction...at all. I came from 'the tree' and bushbashed up and across the hill. Not a good idea at all, but the cache was found and the log was signed

05-Sep-17
Finished a meeting at Brindabella Park. Why not divert to Ainslie before heading back to Barton, to collect a daily while there's no rain - still cold and windy though. Parked at the top and walked to GZ in suit - might have looked a bit odd, but who cares. Quick find, then the walk back up, then back to the office. Two Hidden Dates to go on the calendar - nearly complete. TFTC

A steep downhill path for me and geo-son! Easy find. TFTC

02-Jun-17
I spent 9 hours hiking around Mount Ainslie today with the goal of picking up solved puzzles. I may as well call this Pacmania day since most of the caches belonged to one CO. I did pretty well with only 2 DNFs. This was number 19 of 28 for the day.

28-Apr-17
A long cross-slope walk for me along the range today. I was rewarded with nice views when I got to this one. It was an easy find. [8d]

11-Dec-16
11:05am Wandered across from the last cache, really lovely area, the weather is warm, but cool amongst the trees. Obviously found easily, dug deep enough to discover cache. Tftc!!!

11-Dec-16
Having decided to walk straight through from the previous cache it was a scenic if somewhat slippery walk through. Dty73 living up to the mountain goat label awarded and skipped and bounced ahead while I stumbled and slid behind. I arrived at GZ to find log signed and watched it being replaced! Moved out of this little 'meadow' to sit in the shade to log. TFTC!

29-Apr-16
Was in the area, so grabbed it. TFTC.

05-Apr-16
The word 'meadow' conjures mental images of lush green open grassland, perhaps with a few sheep grazing contentedly... This location may not offer quite that idyllic vista, but the view certainly isn't bad! On the other hand, the freaking slippery Casuarina foliage that I traversed to get to this cache certainly isn't good! Wink Thanks for the cache, Bubble and Squeak!

02-Apr-16
Found it! The mount of rocks was really difficult to find though. Saw some cool lizards on the way. And forgot the pen, so will just log it here. TNLN. TFTC!

27-Mar-16
I bushbashed my way across from the previous cache to this one, up the hill and along. Had the heart rate up and the sweat flowing by the time I neared GZ, and then it was pretty clear where the cache was going to be! Not a bad view from up here though.

TNLN - Thanks bubble & squeak!

#3820 - 17:55; The time had come to make a close to final assault on the caches I had remaining to be found on Mt Ainslie. After gathering information for an earthcache on the ascent, I parked the geomobile near the summit and headed off towards the old quarry for the first of three remaining caches. With that one under my belt, I located a track which saved me the worst of a climb back up the hill, so I took it around the mountain, until I was close to GZ for this cache. I still needed to make a steep descent, but not as far as I might have done. Once at GZ, a quick find was made. I signed the log and headed on my way again. TFTC bubble & squeak Smile

21-Nov-15
Phew, that was a steep track up! It was nice to stop along the way for this cache. Easy find, great views. Thanks bubble & squeak Big Grin

Vague memories of this path were rekindled when progressing to this one. Haven't been this way in years. Thankfully the trip was down rather in than up - might've been a bit too much on a hot day. TFTC.

25-Jun-15
Found 9:10 pm with SkyPirate~. I was up here on Mt Ainslie recently on an early night finding a cache, I like the views around here. I had seen this one but decided to leave it for another day as we were headed back already to the geovehicle. Today was it to come and find this cache. We had first looked nearby for a GA cache and after completing that one headed over to this cache. We pretty much took a direct route but also used the track for part of the walk. Noticed a couple of kangaroos along the way. Finally arriving at GZ originally this one seemed closer than what it was. The SPOR was very obvious and cache quickly located. Signed the log for both of us and replaced as found. Then it was the climb back out of here, huff and puff back to the top.
Thanks for the cache.

Set out to find a couple of the caches around Mt Ainslie today, so we parked the car at the top and headed down and around the tracks on foot. Ainslie Meadow, is the Forth one on our list and was very happy to make it to GZ. Thanks for bringing us to this location bubble & squeak.

Sunday 22 March 2015 - a perfect sunny Autumn afternoon in the mid 20s - not hot not cold. Combination of a bike ride from Belconnen, and a walk to the top of Mt Ainslie to find four caches for a walk of 6.5kms. Log is full but squeezed it in. Thx p2p. TFTC.

Went on a mini caching collection with TikvaNZ this afternoon around Mount Ainslie - literally! I collected three puzzle caches and one traditional (TikvaNZ had already collected one of the puzzles).

So this cache was not far from a nearby puzzle we had just collected, so it seemed logical to collect it on the way to another puzzle. Well - logical on the flat surface of the phone GPS - not so logical on foot! It was only when nearing the cache that I realised that it would have been soooo much easier to come down from the top to collect this one. Never mind - I needed the exercise, and TkivaNZ was generous in taking it slowly while I caught my breath! Not too much ambiguity about where the cache was Smile

Surprisingly, when at GZ, four muggles were in the vicinity - two walking up the hill and two walking down the hill. We did not encounter any other muggles while on the journey, so that was just weird.

Anyway, TNLNSL and thanks for the exercise bubble & squeak!

Out for an evenings caching with AngelG27. This was our third stop, as we zig zagged up the hill from cache to cache. Cache easily spotted thanks to the hint. TFTC & the great views. A lovely evening to be out.

First finder in 2015. First cache found with my new phone. I think my old one was better, but it has a fried motherboard.

The geo hound and I climbed up the mountain and I apologise to all the spiders whose webs we walked through.
Have to have a look at the old maps again.
Not much of a view directly from GZ as the trees are in the way, but great views of the city from nearby.
