These youngsters are helping this turtle across Hambley Boulevard near the Public Library in Pikeville, KY. Claiming a 'find' as this bronze sculpture captures the spirit of this cache. We helped many box turtles on their way this summer while caching in Eastern KY.

We decided to take a detour in the Everglades while traveling to Fort Lauderdale and then on to Colon, Panama. We saw this poor guy just north of "Shark Valley" and the Everglades NP. Unfortunately, we weren't quite in time.
I helped this box turtle get across Hatley Detrot road in Al.

I found this turtle near hillside drive in burlingame, ca today... boy they sure move quick it was hard to get the photo! he was heading for the road, I picked him up and pointed him away from the street, he made a beeline for sunny spot.
I'm keeping today's date 12/12/05 even though I saved this turtle back in May (Memorial weekend)during geowoodstock #3. It took this long for my good friend Joe (who took the pictures) to e-mail them to me. My next task is to be able to find the pictures and post them here. If I can't retrieve the pictures then I will delete this log. Thanks from earth angel of the ecorangers.
KD4ADC, 7:02am #1708. As I was preparing to leave for work this morning, I saw this fellow who needed a hand. Rather than allow him to continue into the street, I photographed him and then placed him in the woods behind my house. Thanks for the fun!
Edited to add photo and waypoint.

I was at Sawgrass Lake Park in St. Petersburg, Florida checking on one of our caches and this guy was trying to get across the road. Cars were coming so he was picked up and placed in the grass away from danger. He's a happy fella now thanks to geocaching!
This guy was crossing a busy street in Myrtle Beach. It was too dangerous to photograph him in the street with all of the traffic, so I snatched him up and placed him on the curb with the GPSr. After taking the photo, I placed him in a flower bed about 30 feet from the roadway. I hope he didn't go back toward the road after I left.
The turtles in the city of Barcelona are not a typical species, but people leave it in freedom when these grow. Its reproduction is very easy and immediately it expand. Every certain time they must make cleaning in the city of these animals.

Helped this little guy across the road just in time because a big monster truck was coming at top speed.
Last month two of my fellow cachers and I were on a two day caching binge in the Madison, IN area. We'd camped in Clifty Falls State Park and had just started out on a foggy morning for our second day of caching when I spotted this turtle on the road. We pulled over and I hopped out, camera in hand, only to find that the turtle had reached the edge of the road!
I picked him up and put him back on the road so that I could take a photo or two, so I guess that this log is a fraud! After he'd posed for these photos, I picked him back up and put him in the grass by the roadside. I watched for a while as he ambled toward the woods.

I found this turtle upside down on the side of the road. I saw him on the blacktop trying his darnedest to flip back over. I stopped the car as soon as I could, slide down the hill and flipped him over. I then carried him to safety, away from the street. I was thankful that it was a box turtle and not a snapping turtle. Unfortunately I did not have the GPS and the camera with me. That is why I am writing a note instead of claiming a smiley. All this happened at an overdeveloped section of Exton, PA between PA 100 and US 30. At least another turtle was saved thanks to the awareness that this cache generated.
Found it.®

Saved this poor fellow on Chalet Rd in Newberry County, South Carolina. He or she was in the middle of the road. I rescued the turtle and put him into safer ground in the woods. Photos taken. Thanks for the cache and pet rescue idea.

I saw this cache a few days ago, and today I came across this guy in the middle of Highway 49 in Gads Hill, MO
Found this guy going thru the parking lot at Barefoot Beach Preserve in Bonita Beach Florida. He almost got hit by a car. I got him to move out of the way and back on track to where he was suppose to be crossing. Check out the pix.
We watched anxiously as three cars snaked around this guy in the middle of Flamingo Road, Port Charlotte, FL … But we got him* across safely!! The males only cross the road for sex and water. (He was headed for water!)
Thanks, Tom and Chickie
*P.S.
Tom says "I know how to tell the difference. We had a few large pet Red Ear/Slider turtles plus a small Gopher Tortoise like this one ... the family joke was that I was a turtle in a prior life." See http://www.gophertortoisecouncil.org/tortoise.htm

Found this guy on a Very rainy day...crossing the road. Not a busy road so I got some pictures. Placed him in the direction he was going and he took off. TFTC!
Came across this turtle on Nash Brick Road in northern Nash County, North Carolina. After the photo session I placed it in the grassy area on the other side of the road.
How lucky can I get? My grandson Isaac was visiting us & playing in the yard. He came running in to the house & said he had found a turtle in the street. I grabbed the camera & GPSr to claim a locationless.
I was taking my son fishing and we saw this 3 toed box turtle crossing the road. I remembered this cache so I figured we would log it. we put it in the ditch and watched it run away.
We were visiting our son in Byron, GA and found this little guy wandering across an access road between the houses in a subdivision. The road is just off 6980 Andalusia Drive. The builder of the subdivision has a storage area behind the housing area and this small guy was on his way to the deep woods. He didn't appreciate us placing the GPS next to him and closed his door as soon as we put it down near him. We stood around waiting for the little guy to come out but after 20 minutes we decided he wasn't going to move so we had to take the picture with him shut up in his house. Thank goodness the gate was open to the road so we could get this picture. Thanks for an interesting find in a virtual cache. We hope these can stay on the website because they are always so much fun and so interesting.

Ok, i had to do this on the fly, a car was coming in a high traffic area.
in Maysville/Jefferson, Georgia--just south of Hurricane Shoals Park on Hwy 82.
i saw it in the road, had to pull a Uie. snapped pic of him in the road, my coords, grabbed him and crossed the road.
no reason to be in the road, the stream obviously has a lot of room under the road. most likely a tributary stemming from the shoals.

Ever since I read about this cache we've been keeping our eyes peeled for turtles crossing the road .
Finally, after doing a cache on the way from Kansas City to the SLAGA Fall Geocaching Picnic we saw this little box turtle crossing County HWY 209 near US63. After getting his photo, we put him safely in a nearby pasture.

On my bike ride of the Canal I saw a few turntles and moved them across the trail as Park rangers and many bikers are known to cruise thru. Figured after 5 Turtles in one day I could Log one. You would be suprised how many people do not pay attention on a trail known to have so much traffic. *Will post pics within 24hrs*

Exploring the Richland Creek Wilderness, I wasn't too far from the Ozark Highlands Trail when I came across this Three-toed box turtle crossing from west to east. Fortunately, it's not a busy road. Still, when they do come, they come fast. Since it's dirt, one wouldn't normally swerve to avoid, because if one did, it would cause the car to leave the road or to otherwise fishtail dangerously. So....I stopped to give this one a leg up and over to the other side of the road. He looked at me rather indignantly, but I felt better nonetheless.
We found this turtle as it was starting to cross County Road F05 north of Onaway, Michigan, USA, near Black Lake. Mr. UsTwo spotted it and agreed to turn around so I could get out and rescue it. (You gotta love a guy who does u-turns for locationless caches!) The turtle didn’t seem to be anxious to be rescued as it tried to scamper away when I made a grab for it but I prevailed and got it to the other side. Probably a good thing for the turtle as there was a sharp turn in the road ahead and drivers coming from that direction would not have seen the turtle in time to avoid hitting it.
We went for a walk on South Manitou Island, in Lake Michigan off the coast of Leland, MI. The island isn't very big and doesn't have many motorized vehicles, but we found two tiny, tiny turtles squashed in tire tracks. As we walked closer to the lake, we found and rescued probably a dozen more half-dollar sized turtles. They sure were cute! A little ways past where this photo was taken, the road turned from gravel to sand, and we saw the holes where the turtles hatched.
Thanks for the fun cache!

I found this little guy just past my driveway on the gravel road, this was really his lucky day, I've had my eye out for a turtle for awhile for this cache. They don't get much cuter than this.
Helped this box turtle on her way while out geocaching. She was in Fallasburg Park, just north of Lowell, Michigan. Thanks for providing this fun cache!
Well I'm not certain if I am allowed to log this one or not for the fact that it was a tortoise not a turtle - but we were able to get him off the road we were driving on in South Africa.... He was not moving so we had to pick him up and move him on his way!
Found this one while caching in south east Illinois. Didn't have to worry about it biting us as it became very scared or very shy. When we touched it it closed up tighter than a drum. This was a busy area with fisherman and mushroom hunters so it was matter of time before this one was squished. We moved it off into the woods after our photo session. TeamCooper
Found this ornery little turtle in Shreveport, LA on Rd. 3049. Upon closer inspection, we found this young snapper really needed help crossing the road. One of his legs had been bit, torn, whatever, off a long time ago, it seems. He tried to bite my hand, my GPS, and my shoe but we got him safely across the road. No sooner than we had, a group of rednecks in a big truck came barreling through. I am certain we saved this little turtle’s life!
Helped this turtle cross the road while geocaching in Fort Smith, Arkansas. He didn't seem too happy at the time, bit I'm sure he was grateful.
Back Shelltown Rd, MD
I found this guy crossing the road (headed north) while searching for 2005 Cache Across Maryland (CAM) caches. After posing for this picture I deposited him on the bank of the nearby creek - which he promptly dove into...

Came across this gal sunning herself on a sunny trail. There was a large pack of bikers behind me so I picked her up and helped her to safety. Looks like a snapper which we don't usually see around these parts.
Well, after alreadey helping ONE turtle across the road last year, and losing the picutre after the PC crashed, we were extatic to have the opportunity once more! Well, shold we say Goofy was, since Butterfly was driving her crazy trying to get this one off her hit list! While on the hunt for another cache in the Swamps of Alligator country FL, with gators all over the banks of the river only feet from us, this poor turtle is stopped dead in his tracks right int he middle of the road. Now we knew there was a SUV of gator-sight-seers only minutes behind us, we also knew we HAD to do something to get this guy off the road, but not too close to the gators. So we edged ever so slowly with our truck, took the waypoints and the pic, and watched him duck into the tall grass to safety! Whew! What an awesome feeling to have saved yet another life!

This turtle was crossing the street in front of our house in the Orlando area.
Saved on 21/11/04 at 1630 AESST approx. This Eastern Long-necked Turtle was rescued from being squashed on the Shepparton-Dookie Road in Victoria, Australia. The phot does not show him at his best because when he saw me coming to move him he retracted into his shell
