Cache find 9494... love numbers like that! Good place to pull in and see the coastal scenery and grab a not chosen cache.

Trip log: When cheap flights presented the opportunity to go to NZ with GreyHams, who was keen to get the 5 2000 caches and the web cam I was of course very keen to tag along. I didn't want to miss out on that... Equally as keen for those caches myself and the first chance to get the passport out in a long time and head overseas while we could. Covid Happenings of course did put the trip in doubt and a last minute effort from GreyHams to get the flights changed and it was looking like this might actually happen... until I arrived I truly didn't think it would!

The cache list was quite simple, the 5 2000 caches and the webcams. Of course we did look at others as we travelled, types, DT, not chosen which were in abundunce and caches of quality, if your cache made our list it had a quality we needed. Many thanks for your cache that helped guide us along our way.

Certainly it was a memorable time, barefoot 500 plus metres across a mud estuary of shells and crabs was more fun than it should be. As was pushing through wet thick high flax or tall wet grass across to the caches. But the most memorable would be the fog, the thickest, most relentless fog but it provided some stunning scenery at times and was just crazy.

I loved seeing all the chinese takeaways that did fish and chips, the perfect hedges and a deserved shout out to Indian Zaika for its great food! Certainly with the fog and rain it was an interesting trip and we got quite drenched at times, it hid a lot that NZ has to offer but 'it's a caching trip' after all so it ticked all the right boxes and was very enjoyable regardless. Huge thanks to GreyHams for letting me tag along while he did all the planning, booking, driving and sending in the answers for the caches... as always!

Nice and easy

Trip log:

International travel!!...OMG it feels good. Grabbed some cheap flights and anxiously waited for some outbreak to derail the plan, but that amazingly didn't happen. Sure, I had to scramble and reroute our trip via Brisbane & Sydney as we were originally going through the plague pit...aka Melbourne, but we still made it.

Having done most of the North Island, it was good to finally have a crack at the South. 5 year 2000 caches and a webcam, thats a nice little haul. Sure, some of the year 2000 caches involved bush bashing....in the rain/fog/mist...but we got them all. We had lots of other little targets like getting all our types/sizes/DT, NZ in particular has so many 'Not Chosen' size caches, super rare back in Oz, so we made sure to get as many as possible. If you are reading this, its because this cache had a quality we were chasing.

As always, the Earthcaches and the Virtuals took us to some really cool places, the Steampunk HQ and the boulders being birthed at the beach being the highlights. My favourite cache though would have to be the one where we had to walk 500m over a mud flat, dodging shells and crabs with our bare feet.

This trip will be remembered as the 'fog trip' as we saw a lot of it, which meant we saw little else. Oh, that and how every Chinese takeaway also doubles as the fish & chip shop....its a thing!

Quick find on a brief stop travelling home from a weekend in Waimate. While showing obvious signs of a hard life, the log is still dry & holding together, thanks to the recent addition of a clothes peg. TFTC

Log book falling apart and wet. Dried out and put together with a clothes pin. Repackaged in a roll so may stay drier. Lovely spot to stop. Took the liberty of ditching some sopping wet papier mache which was unreadable. Thank you for placing this cache!

It's been a great long weekend in Oamaru, visiting friends and extended family after lockdown. Didn't do a lot of caching there... and what caching we did do was very hit and miss.
This was our 4th of 7 on our drive back to Invercargill.
As soon as I heard "cabbage trees", I thought "yeah nah", but wanted a beach photo for my daily Facebook report.
As the driver, and before I had a chance to load the app on my phone, my navigator SW had cache in hand.

01-Jun-20
A quick stop this morning. There was a freedom camping van almost immediately beside the cache so stealth was very necessary today.

I'm catching up on my logging which seemed to have stalled even though we have been in lockdown, my excuse is that I have been working throughout.
Found on our homeward leg. Heading for Ashburton so not stopping very often.
This started out as a Geocaching road trip to Invercargill to drop off some stuff for the niece and collect some other stuff for Mrs banian. It turned into a bit of a race back to Wellington to beat the Covid-19 lockdown.
We were able to rebook our Ashburton accommodation and ferry ticket to earlier in the week. When we arrived in Picton the vehicle queue was almost a kilometre long, and got longer behind us. Fortunately, as we had tickets we were still able to get on our sailing and made it back before "Level 4" kicked in.

Be nice and keep safe! TFTC hill55.

After visiting the Moeraki Boulders in the afternoon we continued just a few kilometers onwards to this nice freedom camping spot to spend the night, since I wanted to go back to see the boulders at sunrise. After dinner I used a quiet moment to look for this cache, which I found after some searching, since my GPS insisted on a different place. TFTC!

Down from Auckland to claim the last 2 Geotour caches and to pick up a heap of others for a challenge I’m working on. Not only that, I’m working towards my 8000th cache, oh where will it land I wonder??

it's getting quite chilly now in the late afternoon, I'm trying to leave my 99th Geotour cache at Karitane to the last minute, I'm getting hungry for wine, and cheese and ham sandwiches for dinner, but that has to wait - geocaching first. Took me a couple of goes looking for the right cabbage, but got there in the end.

During our holiday in New Zealand we have visited both the North and the South Island. We saw a lot of highlights of this beautiful country, but there is so much more to see. So many highlights, so many caches! The geocaches showed us a lot of special and interesting places. Sometimes a quick find, sometimes we had to search longer. A few DNF's, but that doesn't matter. We loved New Zealand and we hope to come back some day!

Today we have found the cache "Katiki Rest ( North Otago)". We first spotted a seal resting under the trees. Love it!

hill55, thanks for creating and maintaining this cache!

Greetings from the Netherlands,
