Completed the Earth Cache after hiking up to the traditional cache. Answers sent to CO. Photo from the top. Thanks for placing this cache for our enjoyment. Enjoying a caching holiday and attempting older target caches. Completed with mackay_geocaching.
An early start up the hill to get the information 1st hand to answer the questions for this cache. A quick hop up & down was a fabulous outing. Thanks Moneybox for enlightening me on another worthwhile environmental wonder.
Visited Mt Scoria to make the observation while travelling homewards after attending the QOGM event in Longreach. Climbed the peak noting the geology of the basalt and enjoyed the magnificent view over the landscape. Thanks for the interesting earthcache Moneybox!
It was the geocache [Scoria](https://coord.info/GCGNKG) that was one of Queensland's 100 oldest geocaches that was a priority stop here today, and I'm so glad that I did as it became one of my highlights of the trip! A small walk that took a distance of 1.3 km across an elevation of 76 m, with a moving time of 0:21 hr, and a total time of 0:26 hr, as per my [Strava record](https://www.strava.com/activities/9857447565). The basalt columns were amazing, and I really enjoyed the small adventure in getting to the top, even if it was in the middle of the day at its hottest time! Most of the information for this EarthCache was gleaned from the park's signboard, with additional research at home for further understanding. Answers were then sent to the CO for validation; Thanks Moneybox for the EarthCache placement and ongoing maintenance.----------This 1.5 week trip, the purpose was the Queensland Outback Geocaching Muster (QOGM) in Longreach, with its aim to encourage tourism and support in rural towns. Departing from Brisbane on Friday 15/09/2023, I travelled solo taking the northern route through Gayndah, Emerald and Jericho on my way to the event, and then returned through Blackall, Morven, St George, Goondiwindi, and Toowoomba arriving back on Monday 25/09/2023.My Longreach highlights included the two QOGM muster/rally days visiting Muttaburra and Isisford; the Qantas Founders Museum; Stockmans Hall of Fame; Silver Tails Rail Sunset Tour; and the general historical town vibe. Other highlights to/from Longreach included climbing Mt Scoria; Barcaldine's Tree of Knowledge and kayaking in the water park; Blackall woolshed scour; and the smaller intriguing and historical towns that I passed through.During my travel days when I was time-poor, I targeted geocaches that were older in age, high D-T, puzzles/challenges, and rare cache types. In addition, I added 7-8 visited LGAs to my statistics. The scenery was memorable with picturesque sunsets, and a diversity of flora and fauna. There were plenty of kangaroos and wallabies, emus, goannas/lizards, brolgas, hawks, and alas wild hogs, and goats.Today, a full travel day was pencilled, driving from Gayndah to Emerald via Biloela.I started the day visiting the towns lookout before attending the local parkrun. Well and truly warmed up, I closed out my Gayndah visit with a drive up to the lookout and then visited the [Upside Down Bridge](https://coord.info/GC8ZMQ3) in the town across the river - an engineering masterpiece!I tend to be far too slow in my travel days morning, perhaps stopping at geocaches more than I should, although I enjoyed my visits to various towns. Perhaps at the hottest time of the day, I hurriedly hiked up Mt Scoria, and the basalt columns were impressive.I had lunch in Biloela and completed the [Biloela My Home Town](https://labs.geocaching.com/goto/af82ce36-2dcf-4ff3-ab59-75a503cad4f2) Adventure Lab, and then I decided to take fewer stops to then arrive in Emerald just as the light was fading. Post dinner, I tried to find a few more town geocaches, visiting the botanic gardens to the south, and more of the Emerald cotton geoart.
Found on 12/08/2023 with Kyms Adventure ?? we were sore after climbing to the top the next day. Interesting facts about the site TFTEC!
Catching up on my logging from a recent road trip. We detoured here on our last day journeying home, for a rest break. Considered climbing it but the majority voted for another walk in a nearby gorge to visit a cave instead. Bummer, because there is an oldie traditional cache up there! And it looked like fun. Nevermind. We took our time with the geology lesson to appreciate this place before taking a good look and then moving on. Thanks so much for another EC offering, we always enjoy the places you highlight.
We always enjoy finding a Moneybox cache, Geo son and daughter still talk about the day Mrs Moneybox took us to the tip! They were less enthusiastic when I told them to write a paragraph about Scoria today though!
Thanks for another interesting earthcache. A fav from us.

Day 3 of the CQ Reflection tour. This notable mountain was actually the main target for the day. Spent time reading the sign and thinking about the Earthcare answers and the magic of an ancient volcano.
Then it was off to wonder the tails and push up to the top to take in the views and examine the features mentioned in the Earthcache.

After driving from Charters Towers to Biloela on the 31st, Mr CNQ started the New Year with some caches between Biloela and Maryborough. Collected information from the base and from the near the traditional at the top early in the morning. It took a while to recover from the walk, even with a few hours in the car. Interesting feature and earth cache thanks for setting it up Moneybox.
Looking back, we visited Mt Scoria in Sept6 2013, but for some reason forgot to log this one although I did take enough photographs to answer the questions. Probably we had no internet access at that time and location, so left it for later on. Arriving home after a trip away, other more urgent matters intervened. Will send off answers to the CO. Pity, as we would probably have been second to log. TFTC, Moneybox. A very interesting rock formation. We are all solid members of the rock family, metamorphic, igneous, and sedimentary.
TFTEC. We had a lovely walk around the area. Would have loved to do more and climb up to the top. I wasn't feeling well as my BP was high but I didn't want to miss coming here and seeing this rock formation.
We left home to escape the winter chill and to find some more caches on the way North.
We had passed Mount Scoria very often in the recent years, but this time we made the detour.
An interesting earth cache, and we took a closer look on the top of the mountain.

We did a detour from the highway to get to this spot. It was well worth it. Not too many people around. Thanks for bringing us to this area and preparing this cache
A side Diversion off the main road but well worth the visit unfortunately I didn’t have time to climb the mountain.
Catching up with late logs
We decided to spend an extra night in Rocky and try our luck at the Cry series and then finish off the CQ Adventure before heading for a couple of earth caches in a bit of a loop and anything else that popped up on the screen.
We nearly missed this one on our travels as it was a bit further off the road that we had been looking but as we both enjoy earth caches we decided on a quick detour to come here and we are glad that we did.
This was a really interesting location and the walks around the bottom had quite a bit of cultural history as well.
We collected the required information and that has been sent off to the CO and hopefully it is good enough for this log to remain.
Many thanks MoneyBox for another wonderful earth cache that we found to be quite informative., a favourite point from us.

A roadtrip for some old and rare caches this long weekend.
Came here on a hot Sunday afternoon, made it up to the summit and then collected the information for this EC.
A great climb up to the top.
Quick response from CO!
Thank you for hiding this geocache Moneybox

We visited this interesting location back in April but have only now got round to logging, and more importantly doing the research to answer the questions needed for this Earthcache. I take photos of almost everything when I’m there and read the notice boards, etc when I’m ready to write the log and send the message. I’ve heard of scoria and knew it was a basaltic but never really known how it differs from other basalt rocks I’m familiar with.
Detouring to this location brought us to a delightful, quiet patch of bush. Unfortunately lack of time and stiffness of knees prevented me getting closer to the base of the mountain. I did enjoy our short walk in the area.

After camping overnight in Mundubber I headed north today and stopped to grab some caches allong the way. It was getting late and I headed to this EC for the last of the day.
I gathered the information and wandered over to scoria and checked out the lower area. I didn't venture any further as I would have run out of light so best come back another day.
An enjoyable and informative ec and it gets a FP from me.

On our trek to Dayboro Mega. Read up on the hill I just climbed, maybe I should have read this first TFTC Moneybox
2/1/21 11:22 i’ve submitted my answers and was curious to see the columnar Basalt fields up close. My tactical all weather pluggers weren’t up to the task however to get up to the trad and I may have tried a bit too much bushtwacking but did get a close look at what can be seen from a distance from the parking spot. I did enjoy my little excursion into the conservation park . Thanks for the earthcache Moneybox

Monday. Wonderful area and enjoyed reading all the signs about the history of this area and how things were formed. There were a few campers in the area, seemed like I was the only one who climbed this outcrop though. Answers to earthcache questions sent to CO for consideration.
Thanks ***Moneybox*** for showing us this place

This place reminded me of Policeman’s Knob out near Rubyvale which I think is probably very similar. Interesting formation and great views from the top. Thanks for the cache
Grandad is a big troll in the mountains. He’s been known to get woken up from time to time. The result to the landscape can be scary sometimes.
Stopped here for a rest break on the big drive from Nebo to Brisbane.

Completed with CDAH55 whilst getting one of Queensland's oldest traditional. CDAH55 has sent the answers in.
We were traveling from Biloela to Monto and on the Mt Perry. I can not resist an earth cache so a detour was made. Interesting geology here. I have submitted my answers and am logging hoping they pass muster.
This was the easy cache of the day before tackling Mt Scoria.
Working on the answers and will send them on this Friday when I'm back in Brisbane. Logging now as I'm doing the cache for the Centroid Challenge on the way home as it's somewhere in woop woop south of Roma and it needs a few hours for Project-gc to catch up.

Hi there Moneybox. Today was a tourist day - so after catching up with and then saying goodbye to Team Pathfinder, we drove out to take a look at this spot. Unfortunately my legs would not allow an ascent to hunt the traditional cache at the top, so we settled for just this one. Answers have been sent in to the CO. Thanks to Moneybox for this cache - our find #6814.
Camping at callide dam for a couple of days and having a tour around
Good excuse to look for a cache or two as well

Day 1: Brisbane to Emerald. Travelling with JACS Team and Eat Sleep Cache Repeat to collect the cotton geoart in Emerald. Stopped for a few interesting caches along the way before finishing the day with a few caches in Emerald itself. Great caches all around. TFTC!
We did have the traditional here on our todo list today, but it was hot and we did not arrive at the right time of day nor did we have water. So we decided to leave that pleased to discover an Earthcache so close so we gathered the information with Ardom has sent on behalf of the three teams travelling together today.

I was taking a very zigzag route to QOGM in Barcaldine. After spending the night in Biloela, I headed out to Mount Scoria. I thought about going to find the old cache here, but decided against it. Instead, I took a lovely walk along the trail around the base of the mountain. With photos taken I then continued on my journey. Thank you for bringing me to this interesting place and TFTC
Blasting from Bris to Mackay and back on an epic 2000km 2-day solo roadtrip, because Geocaching . Day 2: another early start, heading South from Waverley Creek rest area reaching Rockhampton before heading inland in a big loop via Eidsvold and Gayndah before reaching Gympie then back home in Brisbane late in the arvo.

With recent knee surgery I was upset that I couldn't climb the hill, but this EC was a great consolation prize. It was interesting to read about the formation on the board, and after a few pics I was on my way. Answers submitted.

Crew153 and I wanted to climb this mountain, and with Fangsoki along for the fresh air up we went. Gave us an up and personal appreciation for the rocks here. Once back on terra-much-more-firma we made sure we could answer these questions before moving on.
Thanks Moneybox for bringing me to this location.

When Fangsoki and Pprime (P') mentioned about a road trip to get the old caches in outback Queensland I jumped at the chance to see some of our great country. The 8 day tour covered some 6,000km and a day on a boat in the Whitsundays. I wouldn't have missed the adventure for the world.
Seeing we were climbing the hill for the traditional cache we thought that it would be only fitting to get the information for the EC while we were there.

TFTC. Certainly a place worth coming to. I(Hans ) had been to the top of the mountain for the traditional cache. When I came back we gathered the information for the Earthcache. Certainly interesting geography. The view from the top,is outstanding.
How lucky are we to have a mountain like this in Queensland? We learned today there are only 3 in the world like it. Amazing! After studying the info boards and collecting our answers to the questions we climbed to the top. Fabulous!

Nice spot only just off the usual path. Geocaching is great for taking you to places you might otherwise skip past. Fairly warm climb to the top and an enjoyable shaded afternoon tea at the tables at the base. TFTC answers coming shortly.
Found while up visiting family from ACT. I grew up here but never made it out to Mt Scoria. Now done. Thanks for getting me out and about. Wish there were more caches around here. TFTC

It's been 2 years since the Bromance undertook a geocaching road trip, the last being down to Gloucester NSW back in March 2015. With the blessings of our respective spouses received (mine seemed rather keen to get rid of me for the weekend) we headed off from Brisbane Friday lunchtime for a whirlwind trip to Yeppoon and back with a lengthy target list of caches. After finishing our first 2 days of caching and setting up camp at 1.30am each morning, another early wake up call had us packed up and on the road again for more caches and by the time we reched this area we were on our last leg heading for home. Our target list included the nearby traditional list but through a failure of the J.E.F.F. App this cache hadn't made it on to the list. It seems I hadn't zoomed in on the map enough to spot this earth cache hidden behind the traditional. Luckily Swellerfngus picked it up as he perused the map on the drive in. After a walk around the base and a climb to the top we had collected enough information to answer the required questions. Thank you for educating us a little about this area. TFTC
It has been far too long since Seffnjarah, Swellerfungus and I did stupid things on a roadtrip a long way from home. So, a caching road trip from Brisbane to Rocky & Yeppoon and a few ports (and mountains) in between was planned. The well planned though overly optimistic caching itinerary included miscellaneous mind bending puzzles, half a dozen or so of Queensland's Oldest caches a few wee hill climbs, a healthy selection of unloved caches and any other interesting caches in between.
On the homeward run now - a handful of selected caches and a lot of driving to do. The JEFF app had a failure and had not even noticed this cache on the map. Thankfully ,Fungus noticed it on his phone and the answers were collected today during our visit. I enjoyed the climb to the top. Answers have been sent to the CO. A great spot for an earthcache - have a favourite point.

Admittedly, I was here primarily for the traditional cache. But it would be plain rude not to do the Earthcache while up there.
I am unsure if this Earthcache requires you to climb to the top - but my picture is me at the top in any case
This was one of the more interesting earth caches I have done. I had been here before a few months ago and DNFed the traditional. I was thinking it would be a great place for an Earthcache. A quick check on my phone showed the Moneybox had beaten me to it A very fascinating area with the columnar rock.

Travelling around Australia and now super excited to be finally starting our trek to the Easter Geocaching Event at Alice Springs.
This 38+degree heat has to finsih soon doesn't it? Aircon in the Cruiser unless stopping for a search for a geocache. So quick finds are the order of the day.

Last full free day in Queensland before heading to pastures new and then home to the UK. Took the drive over from Gladstone, picked up a chipped windscreen but it was all okay because I got to enjoy the tranquility (minus the ants eating my feet and the wasps eating my BBQ) of Scoria.
A wonderful place to visit and take a break.

Day six of my 2015 mammoth caching holiday. left Nanango at 4am on Monday 77th September via Condamine, Roma, Augathella, Longreachh, Barcaldine, Emerald, Rokhampton and now overnighting in Moura. So far I have driven just over 2000klm and todays trip was small at 287Klm. Found 22 today including this one and a few bush walks and a few multi's as well.
Slight deviation from Biloela down to this one then back roads and back onto the highway to get to Moura. I have been to this park a few times now and not even going to contemplate climbing the mount in respect of the wishes of the native land owners, Traditional owners, request to respect their land.

First time I tried to log this one I was relying on local knowledge to answer these questions and I wasn't correct on all answers.
Went out to Mt Scoria Yesterday to have a look at the board and get the answers to log this one, I also wanted to get a bit of quite time away from my home town for a little while.
This is a great spot.
While I was sitting at Mt Scoria I managed to make a contact in the USA via the 15 metre (21mhz) amateur radio band which also made his trip worthwhile.
Thanks to Moneybox for confirming my correct answers and getting back to me so quick both times

As we visited Mount Scoria a little late in the day for a walk (hmm, sounds like a common story in some recent logs, but honest we would had we had the time... truly ruly). However we did have the time to assimilate all the facts, gain a little extra knowledge, and "find the cache" So thanks for the EC Moneybox, & for the quick response.
It was getting late in the afternoon when we stopped by Mt Scoria. While we were too late to do the full mountain climb we were able to explore the mountain itself, walk the complete track and climb some of the way before the darkening skies forced us back to the Geo-Falcon to journey further south for the night. We enjoy places like this where education is mingled with leisure and pleasure (and a good bit of hard exercise to boot!). Completed the questions, submitted the answers and received the OK. Found at 4.35 pm on 2nd June 2015. TFTC.

I've only recently started caching and this was the first Earthcache that I've attempted. The site appears to be well maintained by the council and really is quite a relaxing and enjoyable spot. The information sign was really insightful and provided facts that I doubt I ever would have learned without it. Thanks for creating this cache as it, partnered with the other cache at this location, gave me a reason to visit this magnificent site that I otherwise wouldn't have!
Found with Drillerboy86. Having visited this site many times, once I saw this cache online I knew we had to do it. Many, many thanks to Moneybox for placing this cache. Had to add a favourite point.
Took the diversion from the highway and spent some wonderful time at this location. Thank you so much for bringing this to the world of Geocaching. TFTF
Visited here some time back
Gorgeous place and fascinating to read all the information provided!

I was in two minds about seeing this earthcache placed here. I loved the idea of this mountain being the subject, it really offers itself to such a lesson. But I was a bit bummed I didn't think of it first Although, it gave me a second good excuse to visit this mountain once more.
This morning I made a stupidly early start to climb the mountain to beat the 40+ heat we've had for the past few days. Having done that, the sun now up, and back in the carpark at 0600 and already sweaty in the 30degree daylight I remembered this earthcache and found myself once more reading the information board at GZ. It is always interesting to read about the uniqueness of this little pile of rocks. I also made sure to take the obligatory photo although iot is a bit of a bugger to see the mountain clearly from inside the National Park.
I love visiting this mountain and have done many times. The stark peace and emptiness of the area makes for a magnificent view up the top. I've climbed many mountains, but I still thoroughly enjoy visiting Scoria. It is short, sharp and interesting. Many thanks for thinking up an Earthcache to place here. The posted co-ords for this one look wrong. They are in private property - perhaps GemJay (congratulaions on FTF - what a mission!) may be able to confirm but I think they should be S24° 31.851 E150° 36.052 (just the minutes of the S look to have a typo), that puts them closer to the info boards in the carpark.
**FTF** @ 11:30AM | #523 | Biloela #2
Found on my second last day in Biloela following Pharmacy Placement. I'd researched this mountain and knew I wanted to see it. The races were on at Thangool, and I'd found out that there was a free bus from Biloela to the Thangool race track, so I packed a backpack of supplies and planned to do the 9km return walk to the mountain from the racetrack. About fifteen minutes into the walk, I was offered a lift, and cautiously accepted this lift to Mt. Scoria. I arrived minutes later, solved the cache, and went for the climb. After spending some time up there, taking some photos, I began the return journey. Unfortunately, I didn't get a lift back, so made the 4.5km trek back to the racetrack in the heat in fifty seemingly long minutes. Arrived at the racetrack to find out that the free bus wasn't returning to Bilo for hours, so ended up sharing a taxicab back to Bilo. Thanks, for brining me to a mountain that is unique to the Southern Hemisphere. Talk about being in the right town at the right time for a FTF!

Having visited this mountain a couple of times, I've taken enough photos that I could answer all the questions and log as found now. I will, however, leave the first find up to whoever is there first and log this when I next visit Mt. Scoria. Certainly a place deserving of an earthcache though
