We are on a road trip from the NSW/Vic border to W.A. for a wedding. We stayed the night in Port Augusta and thought wed collect a few caches while travelling to Whyalla. I saw this series and thought we might as well find a few of them on the way in to town. This one was found easily

This was a great little series, the caches are all good and nice and easy to find. With a few days off I headed over to the northern Eyre peninsula for a 2 night stay in Whyalla, my main aim for the few days was the FITG and the FTF trail plus finding a few caches here and there along the way. Just under 300 caches found for the trip. Thanks for the cache

Making my way to play golf at the Streaky Bay open on the weekend. Day 1 was doing some of the August series just before Whyalla and also start the FITG Series on the Whyalla/Kimba road before heading to Cowell to stay overnight to pick up a mat who was coming over on the ferry after working night shift. Also did an adventure lab in Whyalla and grab other caches on the way. The caches were in good condition unless mentioned in the log. TFTC

We have come over from WA to do a few series. Did The Gone Fish'n one on the Yorke Penninsula and sadly couldn't find 44 of them. Enjoyed it so here we are again to do some more.
Great series thank you. This one was on the ground.
Loved that it was on a safe little road.

Found on a night run to grab a few of the August series caches as well as others on the way. Found quite a few along this section on the road or in the open, left them in the recurring hiding spot. Quick find under torchlight here, cheers.

Find #5909 on 26 Jun 2023.

What an epic journey we have had, just returned home from the holiday of a life time, we managed to catch up with PP2 for some caching at times, oh the memories and laughter!! Now it's time to catch up with the logging, thank you to every CO who has placed caches for us to find along the way TFTC

I had these on the radar for before we leave SA. It's unfortunate that 2 have been archived as I will not be able to find the whole of August. I suppose that's to be expected as they are nearly 9 years old.
We sang Happy Birthday to my Mum at #7 she would have been 99 this year. At the other end of our Familt Tree we sang to our grandaughter, Holly on the 10th, she will be 10 this August10th. TFTC The Scarlet Manuka

Checking out more of Whyalla, the steel city, where every corner has a rusty mint tin...
and some of the nearby coast today as well.

As usual, a day packed with exercise and great views. Cool

Spotted your cache along the way CoolBig GrinSmile

An august cache it is

Appreciate The Scarlet Manuka for placing and maintaining this cache on our SA geo game map Cool

---

Searching with Purrfect Di and Jack the Monkey, finding and signing cache logs alone or with family and friends using some or all of the resources of GSAK (Geocaching Swiss Army Knife), Whereyougo, Garmin Montana 750i, Montana 680t, Etrex 35, Samsung S21u, Samsung S9, with Geocaching App, c:Geo, or Geooh Go, and Android Auto and other maps... or often with just plain old dumb luck WinkCoolBig Grin Plenty of that luck stuff actually!!!
*Logs are composed and published using GSAK of course.*

A couple of maintenance assist tasks on the trail caches too. Looked like there had been some extreme weather since we were here last... oh yep, the floods the day after we left!!!

---
Caching is a hazardous activity!
Keep a lookout for sand traps, snakes, surprise cliffs, boxing roos, wombats, bulldust, and floods,
try not to get tetanus from rusty mint tins and don't fall out of trees...
-- -- -- -- -- -- -- but especially lookout for any old bugs from alpha to omega !!! . [xx(]

Try to keep Travel Bugs as the only bugs you share and pass on Big Grin
Now everything's opening more - even more important to sanitise and safely distance!!!

Really good of all those placing quality caches out and about around the countryside areas,
in sensible safe places especially! - it keeps our game safe, fun, and interesting Cool

Thanks heaps for reading all this addition to the log word count! There's a challenge somewhere, apparently! You win a virtual smile for the effort and getting to the end of the log Wink

Found with hevwalker after a much cooler day where we finished the caches we had planned to do at the Conservation Park during the day today due to the high temps and Fire Ban yesterday. We grab this one along the August powertrail after a lovely meal at a local hotel ...we are heading off for home tomorrow and wanted to get as many more caches as we can.....a great team effort on a perfect night to do a power trail.... In Whyalla on a 5 day mini break with scramping caching the area while doing some sightseeing...
Our last night so off we went after dinner after dark again...
Tonight it was all about the numbers and the smiles on my page...
Gloves donned for the spiders and pen in hand, scramping found and signed, while I drove...
The caches were found quickly and it did not take too long to get through the trail...
Thanks The Scarlet Manuka Smile

This weekend, I headed to Whyalla to catch up with a few other Geocachers and attempt some of the trails there. On Saturday, we targeted the FTF power trail from Whyalla to Iron Knob, and then spent the evening and the subsequent morning driving some of Whyalla's back tracks. On Sunday, I visited Cowleds Landing and back north, only to get severely bogged in one of Whyalla's clay pans. I then returned home via the August series.

Today, we started the day at a meet/greet breakfast event, and then I headed out with hevwalker and scramping for a few more geocaches south-west of Whyalla along the back tracks and main road, followed by the December trail series. I then continued south visiting Cowleds Landing and the proclaimed nudist beach. I next found *Potty Time*, only to realise that I had driven on the nearby clay pans, and then sank into the soft clay below on my way out. Eventually I had help in getting out, and finished my remaining time in Whyalla completing the pipeline August series, and calling into Whyalla Conservation Park for a few high favourite caches. I then made the long journey back to Adelaide stopping at a few miscellaneous geocaches along the way.

I quite enjoyed this August pipeline series, as the caches were predictable, and you could even time them to see the caches upon approach whilst driving. I had a few difficult caches, including some that appeared to be out of reach from hand during the 23-31/08 section, but otherwise, majority of the caches were quick, and one of the better "power trails" to complete. After a brief stop and checked the usual spots, I managed to find the cache reasonably quickly, and the cache container and logbook were in good shape. Thanks The Scarlet Manuka for the cache placement and ongoing maintenance.
Note I also didn't see any evidence of the previous finder, *Little_adventurers*'s name in any logbook during this trail. The CO may wish to investigate further.

Headed out on a chilly Sunday to do the August series of caches and to seek out some3 of the puzzles we found. All caches in this series found and we replaced a few full/grotty log sheets along the way too. Thanks to the CO for placing this series

17-Jan-19
Initially we thought this cache was missing as we looked around several locations and then a container was spotted on the ground, unsure if it was the correct container but it was very close to GZ. There was no log in it so we put a piece of paper into it as a temporary log.
Thanks for the hide The Scarlet Manuka.

24-Oct-18
We have been travelling since January when we left Geelong and travelled up the centre to Alice then Darwin. We crossed the border into WA at the start of May and completed the Gibbs river road which has been one of the highlights so far
From Broome we travelled to cape leveque to find the best beach ever
From Broome we have then zig zagged from coast to inland to make sure we saw as much as we could
We are travelling along at our own pace and so will cache and see as much of the area as we can
Honestly it’s thank to caching that we get to see so much
TFTC
We have decided to stop in port Augusta for a few days as it seems to always be a place we drive straight through on our way back and forth up and down the centre

I mush have been blind. Though as I went on some of the caches weren't put back too well so this could have been just tossed into the bush.

Thanks anyway The Scarlet Manuka.

20-Jul-18
Did this series on the way into town.
All found easily, replaced a few logs and a few rusted mint tins. Alas the small pre-forms with their inside taper causes log rolls to jam. A number in the series need new, untatty log rolls.
Spending a few days in Whyalla and found a few cache, or 300!
Had managed to solve all the puzzles before coming over too.
Of the nearly 300 found on the trip over and back from Adelaide, 95% were found within 50km of Whyalla Central, with approx a dozen dnfs also. Amongst all the finds was my 17000th find.
Also managed a lot of 'unloved' finds too.
What is it with Whyalla and mint tins? lol

Thanks

Day 4 of BarnZy and Cravo’s trip from Perth to Adelaide.

Today we travelled from Elliston on the Eyre Peninsula to Whyalla.

We kicked off relatively early, just before sun up and in some intense fog before starting our journey to Whyalla.

We travelled along the Birdseye Highway for the most part of the day, which was a fitting name as we needed an eagle eye to find some of the caches today.

Caching along the highway was good with a great variety of cache containers found, before heading into Lock, which was a very quaint small town, albeit we had little success finding the caches in town.

We moved along the he Cleve Cleaver series which was a great bunch of relatively quick finds, taking just under 2 minutes per cache as we started to get the rhythm of the caches along these parts. Great small power trail which kept us interested with some nice hiding spots.

Continuing along the highway we caches through Cleve, grabbing a few of the nifty letterbox hybrid hides which were most fun, were trying to collect more letterboxes which makes these caches really valuable.

After leaving Cleve we continued along the highway to Cowell, where we enjoyed a nice hot beef roll from the bakery for lunch before continuing up the Lincoln Highway towards Whyalla.

We arrived in Whyalla a little earlier than planned which was good as we had planned to complete the August series trail by torchlight. Before we completed the August series we eyed off a D5 cache Honeymoon Hilton which was an absolutely brilliant cache at a well staged ground zero and a brilliant hide, thankfully we didn’t have to resort to phoning the CO.

We then turned our attention to the August series and loved the quick finds of well setup containers. I thoroughly enjoyed the series.

We then cached around town and managed to pickup the 5/5 Schoolies Challenge, which we had managed to qualify quite some time ago.

We finished up with a great dinner at the camp kitchen at the caravan park we’re staying at.

Great day out and can’t wait to tackle the other Whyalla power trail tomorow.

Day 4 of the Perth to Adelaide trip where we started in Elliston and ended in Whyalla.

Today was about finding as many caches as possible and starting / warming up to the larger power trails that bought is over here.
We completed the cleve clever series with a find every 2 minutes, and the August series with around 2 finds a minute.

The day started with a slight sleep in as the travell today was considerably less all up after the 4th day 2900km travelled.

During the morning we would of done most of it through thick fog yet again for the rest half hour despite a later start to

Anyway we made more tracks to Cleve, Cowell and many more in between.

The day also included B12 getting his 11000th cache on cache “August 11” and a total find tally of 112 caches.

The Scarlet Manuka I found your cache 3rd August thanks for placing this hide for myself and others to find.

Dunsborough is where it’s all at this year check it out at GC7GXQA October 13th + 14th. Hope to see you all there at WA Goes Big 2018.

#6509 - 15:32; Day 7 of the Alice Mega Road Trip with Sol de lune and albida33, so most logs were signed S.A.L. as a result. After a night in Port Augusta, today's plan was to cache in and around Port Augusta and Stirling North before heading south towards Whyalla for a couple of nights and produced 88 finds along with only 4 DNFs. We were now headed for Whyalla along the Lincoln Highway. One power trail completed we were now working on the August trail before we headed into town to set up camp. All caches were found without any dramas, including the unusual 0th August. TFTC The Scarlet Manuka Smile

Hi there The Scarlet Manuka.

We found your cache **"3rd August"** at 2:26:00 PM today. (This makes our find count 15840).

We cached around the Whyalla area today. On our trek we found a wide variety of container types. & ended up finding 8 caches with 1 DNF's.

Thanks for placing this cache here, without geocaching as our guide we would never have found so many interesting places on our travels. We obviously didn't find this one last time we were here - so now we have remedied the situation.

**Coordinate Accuracy:** We found the cache around 2m from where the GPS said we should be looking. Wink
**Cache Condition:** The container and log book are in good shape.
**Took:** Nothing.
**Left:** A Smiley Badge.

Thanks for the hunt today,

Regards

Ian & Penny.

We decided to find as many of this series as we could today. Some were found out of place on the ground and these were replaced where they were meant to be. The ferocious wind may have had something to do with this. One cache was totally flattened, as noted by the previous finder and one seems to ne missing, as we could not find it anywhere. Thank you to The Scarlet Manuka for placing this cache

One section of this series was not quick or easy given the way they had been placed back into the tight spaces, but hopefully we have positioned the caches so they will be a little easier for the next finder.

4 caches were 'missing', 2 of them I located the vessels a fairly long way off GZ on the ground, but 2 I didn't find (as I was with a previous finder who knew where they should be we replaced 4th & 8th of August for you).

Found whilst on a fabulous Easter long weekend caching trip with CPwanderer travelling from Adelaide to the Eyre Peninsula.

Our weekend has been filled with fun, laughter and lots of crazy caching adventures [:o)] [^] I loved nearly all of the interesting little tracks we travelled and the bush we 'bashed' in my 'fake' 4wd....poor CP was getting worried at times Surprised, but I was quietly confident we wouldn't get bogged! WinkRazzBig Grin (oh and I may have had my fingers crossed at times as there was little/no phone coverage in many of the areas we visited).

The flies, ants and spiders are friendly on the Eyre Peninsula [xx(] WinkRazz; CP had a close call with a death adder snake Surprised and it was hard to find anywhere but road houses to eat at due to towns effectively being closed Twisted, but CP was a perfect travel and caching companion and good passenger Smile [^] whilst I tackled the 1500+kms of driving........sooo awesome!! I want to do it all again!! Bring on the next caching adventure!! [^] Big GrinCool

Day Seven of the WA road trip with BettyBoo3747. Today we played around Point Lowly and Whyalla, grabbing a handful of caches on the way..
It was way past August, so it meant we could grab the lot, although we wouldn't get any Souvenirs for them! We did a few days in August, but there was no one nice enough to do this for us.(and we were away for part of it)
We had done No.9 on the way in, but realised that we should be off the highway (which is a great idea!), so that is what we did today.
I got the easy job of driving and logging because all the caches were on BB's side Smile
Thanks for this nice series, Robmc.

# 7628. We had collected #9 of this series on our way into town yesterday afternoon as we needed it for a challenge we will be doing in Western Australia. Today Robmc and I decided to get the rest - you never know when you might need a whole lot of numbers for a challenge?????

Fortunately we started in the correct direction with Rob driving and me jumping out, retrieving, adding our names and popping them back. A nice quick 30 caches was the result. Some of the logs are getting a bit tatty but some have been replaced by kind cachers too.

Thanks The Scarlet Manuka

It was so hot and heavy weather was blowing in and at one stage big drops of rain fell.
even had some lightening.
As a series I really enjoyed this one.

This is a great PT, flowing on from our assault yesterday on the FTF PT. Today we haven't worked anywhere near as hard. Thanks for your work around Whyalla, we've gained quite a few smilies courtesy of The Scarlet Manuka and fishingmad.

Catching up with some very late logging, and do apologise for the generic log but we are so far behind it is the only way to catch up with the power trails

We think this was a great and generous idea for helping others to get all the souvenirs of August.
Although we had completed the 31 day challenge last year and had completed or tried to complete many power trails on this tip, this much shorter one was definitely on our list.
Heading out of town we started at number 23 and worked our way up to the tanks and some great views.
Then headed off to Port Bonython for a very enjoyable days caching and sightseeing around the area before we returned to start at 0th August and work our way back to town collecting what we could.
We really enjoyed this series and the way they were placed well away from the main highway traffic and also nice easy finds.
Many thanks to The Scarlet Manuka for creating this great series for others to get a souvenir.

By this cache I think I had pretty well worked out the cache hiding methodology.
With every cache find you get the opportunity to find a bonus Redback Spider (Latrodectus hasseltii) Big Grin

Watch out !! They bite Razz
