An afternoon trip north for Dad and the kids BBQ and a few caches.A cool piece of history, but a very green trough. The find took longer than it should have, I assumed something about accessing the hide

06-Jul-24
(9935) Got up early this morning to do a spot of caching around Feilding. Liked the variety of hides. Would you believe I got the information in early April 2019. Finally in the area to retrieve. Can finally put this one to bed. Thanks watcache for taking the time to place the cache and for bringing me here.

29-Jun-24
It's always interesting to find historical features when out geocaching. I quickly obtained some good looking coordinates and made my way to the final site where I made the find without too much bother. I dropped off the Noodle trackable that began its journey in Australia and which I recently found in the Wairarapa. It's good to get rid of another multi dot day.

23-Mar-24
We solved the puzzle during the week, then took the kids + a friend to find and sign. Thanks for maintaining this cache watcache.

found with minecraft lad and his dad

23-Mar-24
Dad and I solved the puzzle during the week and went out with a friend (Kiwi_kid123) to find the cache.

08-Jan-24
After a lunch break at Palmerston North Wendys, Etherlord, sky crane kid and I went on a camping quest, with a geocaching detour. After finding the starting coordinates we set off to find the final. After finding the final the next challenge met us, how to retrieve the cache. Once Etherlord retrieved the cache I felt like a total dummy for not thinking of that method for retrieving the cache. Thanks for the cache.

08-Jan-24
The EtherClan are heading out for a few nights under canvas. EtherLady is already there, which means I'm the driver *and* navigator!Between camping at Apiti and inlaws living at Kiwitea, we've been past this intersection countless times in the last 5+ years yet never had the opportunity to stop and find this cache.Today I've got no immediate timeframe to be out at Camp, so stop we shall! The numbers were quickly identified and inputted and then off to the final. EtherGirl made the find but struggled to get the container out of the host.I've often been accused of being backwards, and today it paid off as accessing it from behind make extraction a lot easier. This is another example of "I would never have known this was here if it wasn't for Geocaching"Thanks for highlighting this item!

Greatful for having a checksum on this one. Thanks spudnz

I remember being here on a previous trip with Sidewaze. Not sure why we didn't sign it off that time but here again today with Paddle Chick and worked through the numbers again - and again till the checksum worked. TFTC spudnz # 20,313

06-May-23
Once again, as it is every couple of weeks, I find myself spending the weekend in Wanganui (from Wellington), and after my real life responsibilities had been dealt with for the day I headed over to Feilding as the nearest location of geocaches I have not yet found. I had no set plan for the day other than driving around (somewhat in concentric circles) finding geocaches, and this was one of them.

No problems gathering the data required here, and the cache was found safe and well, exactly as described.

Thanks to spudnz for placing and maintaining this cache. I enjoy each and every cache I find, and it is only with CO's like this placing them out in the world that this wonderful game continues.

[DGSc-Bulk] tagging to help me generate a list for GC30AD8 - DGSc Challenge.

18-Apr-23
Stopped and had our egg sammies here and worked out this multi while doing so! A quick-ish find once we had some coords. Thanks for showing us this interesting site.

01-Apr-23
Collected the information I needed on my way out to the Kimbolton Sculpture Festival and then stopped for the final on my way back. tftc

29-Aug-22
Gathered the required information and headed to gz which matched the hint but unable to locate

03-Jan-22
Had previously been solved but not found by emmacbl. Didn't take us too long today, especially as it was on the ground in the open. Tftc.

03-Jan-22
Solved this a while ago.

After a quick search and lots of rubbish, the cache was found out in the open. Though a little damp it was in good condition and easy to sign. The cache has been replaced as per the hint

Driven past here many times and did not know about this little bit of history. A nice quick little cache and a morsel of local history too, thanks for that! TFTC!!!

Had planned to do this road trip with BrolgaandTui. They have been here:) Straightforward multi. Tftc

27-Sep-21
Having had a brilliant day yesterday ushering in Daylight Saving for this year, I had today off work to be able to attend an event in Palmy and also to go out and find a reasonable number of caches to fulfill my personal goal of finding X caches every single month. I've pretty much cached out my immediate locale so I'm having to go further and further afield to find caches, so found myself in Feilding for a few hours.

I don't normally bother much with Multis as they are my least favourite sort of cache. But this promised to be a simple 2 stage one, and that's exactly what it was. No problems getting the right answers, and then a short drive away to locate the cache, which was a quick find at GZ.

I was a bit surprised to find that in spite of the double container arrangement, the log sheet was sopping wet. I had to dry it out enough to be able to sign it, but once sorted then the whole lot was replaced as found.

Thanks for placing this cache.

01-Aug-21
Shook out as much of the water as I could, but a tad damp!

We are on our way home from a fun weekend away collecting the last of the PWGT Rua section caches. We happened to be passing by this multi so thought - why not? The answers were quickly located and then we were off to the final - cache promptly located and in good condition. Thanks for the fun multi.

29-Jan-21
After a long day on the 20/20 trail, I stopped to get this one before heading back to the Holiday Park. TFTC.

07-Sep-20
Found at 7 September 2020 2:53 pm.

I'm on a two-day geocaching roadtrip, logging my finds as I go (where possible). Will expand when I get home. TFTC

05-Sep-20
Nice quick find here
Log signed and returned

29-Aug-20
Slow cross country journey to Whanganui for work. Caching today in Ashhurst and on to Fielding. Nice day to be out on my motorbike. Must say I enjoy simple multis like this one particularly with a close cache. (Long multi with a DNF at the end are a pet hate) Thanks

Thanks for this great multi, solved ages ago & finally managed to get today.

A nearby quick find on a cold wet day. Loved the fungi on the old hint. Thanks for fixing it. TFTC

Maintenance done here, it now has a new container and a waterproof log.
The hint has also been updated.

Hitchman's Corner (Manawatu) was transferred from spudnz to user watcache

19-Mar-20
Quickly found the required info and progressed to GZ where we found the container lying on the ground in full sight with only a blank scrap of paper inside. We added a temporary replacement log in a plastic bag with drying sachets. Thanks for the history info and TFTC

09-Oct-19
No problems finding the required data. Found the container hidden in a logical place once I got to GZ. TFTC

13-Jul-19
Replaced container and log, will need another log soon as only had on me a piece of paper from in the car.

22-Oct-18
This geocacher reported that the cache might be missing.

20-Oct-18
Destroyed by a bulldozer by the looks of things. The original site for information gathering is fine but is close to significant works at the moment. The final area has been cleared and I could not find any evidence of the cache.

08-Jan-18
Found it this evening, sorry no pen so will.call in tomorrow to sign log book. TFTC.

19-Dec-17
Was in the Manawatu for work and decided that since I was in the area I might as well go and pick up a cache for the day.

Managed to get the information that was required for solving this multicache a while back when I was passing the published co-ordinates and put the final co-ordinates into my list of unfound caches.

As I was in Feilding for work I decided that today was a good day to go and have a look and see if I could find this cache. Arriving near the final GZ, I was able to find a safe parking spot not too far from GZ and then it was a short and easy walk to GZ.

Arriving at GZ, I soon spotted the hint object and after a quick search I soon had the cache in hand, glad to be able to find this cache quickly without any issues, signed and replaced back as found. Thanks for placing this cache here and for bringing me to this spot and also taking me to a spot that I didnt know about as well, TFTC TNLNSL (12857).

#9419. Interesting stop at Hitchman’s Corner on Kimbolton Road in Feilding. No problem to find the answers and got the check sum to agree. Proceeded to the final GZ, where it was all quiet when we visited. Found after a short search. The cache was in excellent condition, all nice and dry inside. Took nothing, left nothing, signed log.

Thanks for the field puzzle, and for bringing us to the sites, and …

Having just run the Map compare tool with Scoria I have discovered that there were a few caches that we found on our outings that for some reason I failed to log on the day.

28-Jan-17 headed over to fielding with Scoria for some afternoon caching. Picked up “Who you going to call”, “Hitchmans corner”, “Heading out of Fielding”, then while heading back home “Ohakea Plane Spotters” and “Historic Putiki”

Back dating the log to the find date to keep it above board. Sorry about the lateness of the logging.

28-Jan-17
I know I looked for this one over the break but I must have forgotten to log a DNF which is weird since I did so for the nearby traditional on the same excursion. Turns out I had the wrong idea of what I was looking for last time, as I quickly spotted it shortly after turni g up on site (I was taking the clue to literally )

Cheers.

18-Nov-16
Found a while ago. Just catching up on logging.

18-Nov-16
Mrs HeMaLuDy lived only a few hundred metres up the road from this spot as she was growing up and had no idea of the historical significance of this area. A quick wade through the long grass to the trough and the maths was quickly done - the pen was almost dropped in the water but luckily fell just short as I was not going in looking for it. Then it was off to the final. A nice easy find here with darthcacher1 and purply.

11-Sep-16
Love seeing the old troughs around. Solved multi but when we got to GZ took us a while to find as we were out by about 10m. TFTC Smile

22-Feb-16
Straightforward at the original co-ords though I, like many others, didn't even know that this was even here. Went to the GZ site and Teeps perservered for a good 10 minutes all on his own until he had the cache in hand. Got to admire his tenacity I must say. TFTC.

16-Feb-16
Quick work out of the puzzle and on our way to final ..... About to give up as couldn't work out what the hint was and couldn't see cache. As walking back to car the hint object was spotted. Not sure if we did puzzle wrong slightly as the co ords we got were about 10m away from cache. Tftc

07-Feb-16
TFTC. Interesting trough.

24-Jan-16
Got the puzzle answers on our way through yesterday, but wanted to turn off there, so worked out where we needed to pick up the final piece today. Having a very successful run, number eight today.
Have driven this road many times and did not the water trough was there!! Great places to find!

07-Jan-16
Heading to Feilding and grabbing some caches on the way. Stopped at given cords and sorted the puzzle then onto the final coords. Parked up down the road and walked to GZ where the cache was quickly spotted - TNLNSL. Thanks for the local history puzzle and the placement spudnz.

03-Dec-15
Tried for this one a few months ago - was looking 10m away on that occasion and then lost my phone and the cords with it... today it was a straightforward find!

Thanks for the multi and the history. Took nothing and left nothing. The log was nice and dry.

17-Oct-15
Yeah YEAH Yeah YEAH - I don't know how many times I have revisited this cache trying hard to find it over at least four months and not found it and today I got there ! Have been looking in the right area just not in exactly the right spot. Great multi and great that this historic spot has a cache - that I have now completed !!!!!! Tftc Smile

30-Aug-15
Nice easy find

12-Jul-15
My younger brother had a four-day table tennis tournament in Palmerston North. Rather than sit around and watch paint dry, I decided to take a caching tour of the Manawatu... Joined by Gap (of Fap and Gap).

Our last day of caching in the Manawatu... We've had such a great time visiting some heavy cache-populated trails. Now we need to find some specific caches for our current license challenge... This one was definitely on our target list.

We gathered the required information and quickly found the cache. Another enjoyable multi based on local history. TFTC.

11-Jul-15
Third day caching down this part of the country and today is no exception. We are on a mission.

6.35pm - Boggy and dark at information board. Guessed we had the right answer....Bingo...spot on. Cache all good, now back to base for another days caching tomorrow. SLTFTC

02-Mar-15
No problems solving the co-ordinates for this multi today, and a short search netted the cache. Thanks for the hide.

Another nice quick multi while in the area.

29-Jan-15
Today was a dot-day and having collected the required information yesterday it seemed like a good choice to grab this cache. A quick find at the final and our caching streak carries on for another day. Took TB to move it on its way. TFTC

09-Jan-15
Great multi!! Always a surprise to find it. Left one of my favourite trackables for the next geocacher!

07-Jan-15
The day didn't start very well for Mr P and I, we had some bad news from home, couldn't find the first cache, noticed we didn't have enough petrol for the trip planned and when we went to find the last stage of this multi I put the wrong decimal in and we had a crazy unnecessary hard walk...came back to the car. I changed the coords to the right ones and the cache was 8 metres away! T4tc

05-Dec-14
Co-ordinates took us straight to it. Quick find. Thanks.

22-Nov-14
Caching in the MW, on a blustery spring Saturday.
An unknown bit of local history. Nice one.
Once we got to GZ, happy for a straightforward find. All in order; log signed, cache safely re-hidden, just as found.

On a bit of a roadtrip to Turangi with bkj97. He decided on an early 5am start and breakfast in Feilding so it was obvious he was planning a few caches on the way. This was number 8 for the day. Nice place to water our horses. T4TCSL

13-Nov-14
Nice bit of history and a good watering stop. Worth the short backtrack to tick another multi off the to do list. Found with little blue hen on the way to Turangi by a rather circuitous route via Fielding. TFTCSL

22-Oct-14
Great multi once we put in the right co-ords and went the right way a favorite from us many thanks

04-Oct-14
Thanks for drawing my attention to this, I'm aware (via geocaching of course!) of a few of these around the region. TFTC, #6894

Wow! What a nice multi! Really enjoyed doing this one! Nice location and hiding spot! Tftc 8/9/14

24-Aug-14
Checked on this cache after the events in Kimbolton. Replaced the log.

24-Aug-14
Found today with Adventure Collectors while attending the event and CITO in Kimbolton. a great day caching and good company. Lots of familiar faces and some from out of the area. A quick find on the way back to Fielding having solved this one in the morning. TFTC

24-Aug-14
What a fine water trough. Could have done with a passenger in the car to point out the best parking place for the final, but got there with a couple of U turns. A straight forward multi, and good to meet you today at the Kimbolton events, spudnz.

24-Aug-14
Today's mission was a good one; 50 caches, getting my bronze CITO and FTF Addict badges, moving from bronze to silver in both the Mysterious Cacher and Social Cacher badges and going up a belt! And, probably most importantly, becoming part of team FASTA which, along our travels, took part in probably one of the largest unplanned cache convergences this region has ever seen.
Grabbed the details for this one a while ago on a Feilding mission but sadly the cache wasn't in place (turns out it was on the ground not far from the search area).
To finish today's mission we stopped in on the way past for a nice quick log.
TFTM and have an FP as this was a nice easy multi and at an item people drive past everyday without even seeing so good work on finding this piece of the Manawatus history SpudNZ!

24-Aug-14
This Sunday was designated a "Caching Day" due to an event and a CITO in Kimbolten, as well as some new caching and a nice little back country road power trail. With the 4WD loaded up with SpudNZ, Tommygun9, Myself and Baby Tommygun9 we headed off to complete a 50 cache day. During the day we partnered up with Firewoof and Adventure Collectors to become Team FASTA (some of the nano logs needed space saving). At one cache we met so many people it almost became "Team EVERYONE" and an impromptu event! Yay finally a found log on this one.. and a multi as well! At least now I know I was looking in the correct place last time.

Firewoof and I completed this multi in two stages. As we headed towards Kimbolton for the CITO and Event we stopped here and gathered the required information. Our calculated GZ though took us in the opposite direction of where we were heading so we decided to grab the cache on the way home.

After teaming up with the CO as part of Team FASTA we were challenged by the CO to grab the cache without getting out of the car. Game on!

We pulled up to GZ and we could see the cache lying on the ground but couldn't grab it without setting foot on the ground - damn. We placed it back in its rightful hiding spot.

TFTM Smile

19-Aug-14
Solved this enjoyable multi some time ago, back for the second time for an easy find as the cache was on the ground uncovered. Signed log and covered the container. My multi for 7 souvenirs of August. Thanks for this Multi

05-Aug-14
I needed a multi for my 7 souvenirs of August and this one happened to be the closest so off we went. The information was easily gathered at the first site. After overshooting a parking spot at the final location we stopped 200m further down the road and walked back. This cache took a reasonable amount of searching to find it but we got there in the end. Cache and contents all in excellent condition. Thanks for an interesting multi.

13-Jun-14
What an interesting snippet of our rural past.
I sorted out just 2 caches, both non-traditional, to chase on the journey north last week, with a view to solving the puzzles during the holiday and then looking for the actual caches on the trip back home.
The 'longacre' paddocks most of the way along the Feilding-Cheltenham road always make this a varied drive as cows (and a few Jersey bulls this time) graze on the other side of flimsy electric fence tape seemingly indifferent to cars & trucks hurtling by, inches away, at 100kph (sometimes more!).
This location is certainly worthy of a cache. Like others, I had no idea the trough and its history were here so thanks for enlightening us. Nice idea to make it a two-stage cache too. TFTC Spud.

Checked on this one toady as I was driving past. Found the cache lying out in the open. Contents still in good condition. Placed it back where it should be.

27-Apr-14
Not too sure if we were blind or not but even after using a PAF to establish we were looking in the correct place and got some very exact instructions we still couldn't find this one.

11-Apr-14
We have driven past here many times without noticing the trough, so thank you for bringing it to our attention.
+ a marble, - nothing.

A quick check as I was driving past. All is well.

09-Feb-14
A rather busy day's caching today but pleased I took the time out for this one. Obviously water troughs were a significant feature in days gone by and good to see this reminder of our history still preserved.
No problems getting the numbers or making the find.

Many thanks spudnz

22-Jan-14
A great cache. Could not make the check-sum add up until we realised we were interpreting a question incorrectly.

Today was a Feilding Geocache Day! An early start in the company of MJMNZ we set off to “knock off” some of the many new caches appearing in and around Feilding; mostly with success!

22-Jan-14
After the wind and rain of Tuesday 21 st the 22nd of January was fine and clear. Jono S and I had decided that we needed a day in Feilding to start finding all the new caches and would need an early start.
I picked him up before 8 am and we were off on our day geocaching following a worked out route that tried to avoid doubling back.
We found 19 caches so of which were straight forward and others more of a challenge and took a bit of time. We didnt find three.
A multi cache was added to the list to add some variety. quick to find the answers but we were wrong so needed to redo it with more care. Just as well there was a check sum.
We were amazed to see the horse trough full. I wonder if horses still use it.

An enjoyable multi, with interesting history that would otherwise just be driven passed at high speed. Thanks spudnz

22-Nov-13
Driven past here many times, & didn't notice this was here. Even knowing it was here, we had to look for it in the long grass. Wouldn't want to do it in the wet.
Nice straight forward multi, so had no problems working out final co-ords. Followed by a straight forward find at GZ.
Left a pet rock - a badger, & took the TB. TFTC

#6629. Well worth a cache based on the trough. While the trough maybe retired now, walking away from the cafe where we had our afternoon coffee, our noses told us that the saleyards were most def still in use. TFTC.

Despite the trough being one of the biggest I have ever seen, it was hard to spot with all the rank grass around! Well worth a cache. TFTC.

My mega NZ MEGA 2013 Trip!! Split into two halves - first, the journey up, and then the second half was the actual MEGA time.

This was the first half. I ended up deciding that the best way to travel up for the MEGA was by doing a rental relocation. Jucy had FAR too many cars in Chch that needed going to Auckland, and so with the pick of the crop I went for the 4WD... naturally, being a cacher, I knew this would come in handy!
They paid the vehicle on the ferry, paid the insurance, and gave me a free tank of gas as well as 5 days to get up to Auckland! What more could you want?!!
This was my 186th cache of the trip.

Sorry about the mostly copied logs - but otherwise I would still be logging till Christmas - and that's Christmas 2014 I mean! Haha.

Nice multi! Would have never seen the trough otherwise!

TFTC!! Smile

We quickly worked out the answers required at this very long water trough, which must have the capacity for a number of horses, and the cache itself was a quick easy find, not too far away. TFTC

A MEGA Adventure

Both Nova Lightning and myself had set ourselves caching targets that we were hoping to meet in time for the NZMEGA in a few weeks. So with a plan in progress and fuel in the tank away we set.
Departed home at 6pm Friday, returned home 3.30pm Monday, 7 hours sleep approx 470 caches and a great adventure.

Thanks to all those that have placed caches especially Skindo as I think we gave his caches a bit of a nudge

Thanks for a great weekend of Caching and Bull.

Mega Weekend

It all started about a month ago when Cats&Dragons brought up the idea of heading down the line to collect 350+ caches. We both had targets that we wanted to meet before attending the NZ Mega. Plans and locations were drawn up and puzzles were begun to be solved. It took me a while to get my head around a few of the puzzles and with the help of a cacher I was soon on a roll.

The weekend finally came and we departed Hamilton at 6pm on a Friday night. 3days, 2,000km, & 11hrs sleep, later 472 caches collected. Thanks to all those who's caches I found especially Skindo with a huge number laid.

[Green]Cycled to Feilding again. While on Milson line a van overtook me, and 2m past me one of his hubcap/wheel cover thingies came off. It skittered across the road, and got run over by an oncoming car (which had no time to dodge). It shattered into a pile of bits - it's made of plastic - and one large piece skittered back across the road and went between my wheels. I wasn't worried at the time, but if it was a bit higher it might have made a nasty gash on my leg.
Got to the page coords, solved the puzzle and got a checksum match on the first attempt! That has to be the first time I have ever managed to do that - solve a read-the-sign puzzle correctly on the first attempt! Looked at the bike computer and headed off to find the final. When the bike computer told me I was about 300m away, I saw two very likely spots ahead, one on either side of the road. So I stopped at one, put the bike down, and was just pulling the GPSr out of my pocket when I saw the cache! I had parked the bike just 200mm away from it! What a woohoo moment! Big Grin

My streak now 79 days long...
