We continued today our tour of Queensland and thereby searched, found and logged this interesting Earthcache - part of the Carnarvon National Park. The weather was - said in one word simply best. The good hidden caches and the being on holidays kept us the whole day in a good mood. The cache had good coordinates, and thus was easy to find. The answers were sent. Thanks to fourpathfinders for the generation of this nice cache The Amphitheatre (with the proper agenda), for leading us here and for showing us this funny location as well as the ongoing maintenance of this cache.PS: Please forgive us the uniform log which is needed due to timing problems - if necessary special actions and happenings are there described where they happened.Greetings from Germany together with the hope to meet somewhere like event or wood. Words cannot adequately describe how wonderful this section of the gorge is. Absolutely my favourite. It is so peaceful and calm and we were really lucky to have it all to ourselves for about 45 minutes. Thanks for bringing us here
I spent 4 nights in the van park and visited a few EC,s while doing the walks, this was an amazing location and well worth the walk in, answers collected and sent to the CO, photo attached.A Fave point from me for the location. Thanks for bringing me here and TFTC
Beautiful spot, one of the highlights of our 15 Im walk through the gauge today. Family of five from NSW south coast, we will be back! Will send answers soon.
Visited the gorge! Marking this as a note, I will answer questions and send thru and convert to found at a later date.
I love squeezing every last second out of public holidays which usually combine with RDO's at work. So, with a 4 day long weekend in the offing, a few weeks ago I reviewed my adventure wish list and decided that a solo hike Carnarvon Gorge and specifically Battleship Spur would fit the bill.Viko Cz subsequently messaged me to say he was back in Australia for business for a few weeks and had some weekends free for a geocaching adventure, and was also keen to visit Carnarvon.Today, after a late-ish start (too late for the 4.30 am dawn service anyway), we cleaned up the balance of the local Roma caches, before grabbing some breakfast and heading north to Carnarvon, stopping for the odd cache along the way.We briefly paused at the carpark to scoff a banana and make last minute changes to the gear we were taking. It was nearly 12.45 pm when we finally crossed the creek (crossing number 1 of 17 for the day) and headed into the gorge. Out destination was Big Bend, so with all the side attractions to visit, there was no time to dilly dally. The hike started with a climb to Boolimba Bluff and having conquered that we are now hiking up the gorge. The entire Carnarvon Gorge walk to Battleship Spur is full of surprises, and the Amphitheatre is certainly a highlight. It was a little late and the day tripping hikers have now departed, so we had the Amphitheatre to ourselves. We enjoyed the solitude and almost religious atmosphere here, before collecting the clues for this cache and retreating to continue our walk. This earthcache is worthy of a crooked favourite point. Answers sent. Thanks for bringing me here, fourpathfinders. Lest we forget.Pete#7,860

We spent the day in the beautiful gorge, walking up to the top of the Boolimba lookout and into the Art gallery, all the smaller side trips and returned to the car park. Awesome sunny day and magnificent views of the sandstone area. Answers sent to CO. TFTC

This is just one of the best walks you can experience, the locations are just stunning and I think this one might just be slightly my favourite,so I better give a favourite point.TFTC
I acknowledge the Traditional Custodians of this land and pay my respects to Elders past, present and emerging. I recognise their connection to Country and their role in caring for and maintaining Country over thousands of years. May their strength and wisdom continue.

This was by far my favourite spot in the gorge. I had no idea what I was walking into and it was a jaw dropping moment when I arrived. I think I could easily have sat here for hours but Peppa, Davinells, Karicka, Davidwazza and I had to get to Big Bend before it got dark. Our answers have been submitted by Davinells. Thanks fourpathfinders for the earthcache
Next fantastic stop along our hike to Big Bend.
Somehow I had convinced 4 great mates to join me in hiking Carnarvon Gorge this weekend.
Awesome nature and good company
Thank you fourpathfinders for hiding this geocache.

An overnight group hike with Peppa, Beardman75, karicka and Davidwazza to big bend to take in all the sights of Carnarvon gorge.
I wasn’t sure what to expect of the Amphitheater but what I did see blew me away. Amazing geological formation and so incredible to be able to stand inside it. It was really interesting reading about how this came to be.
Definitely a highlight. Thanks for bringing us here fourpathfinders

A trip to Perth checking out some of the awesome places along the way in ACT, NSW, Qld and NT. Grabbing some old caches and missing LGAs. TFTC.
Finally doing Carnarvon Gorge. It's a great trek with lots of interesting places and many Earth caches. Awesome.
Finally doing Carnarvon Gorge. It's a great trek with lots of interesting places and many Earth caches. Awesome.
The tracks are open so we are going for a walk. Most crossings were wet. On the way up we were taking our shoes off but on our return it was straight through them. It was a great days walk and we are so glad the tracks opened today and we decided to stay an additional night after the road was passable after the flooding.
Wow what a surprise, was expecting something a bit different. We were wondering how the first explorers felt when they found it and how they accessed it. It's pretty impressive definitely wouldn't want to be caught in a flash flood inside there.
Thanks for putting this earth cache together

Thanks for the cache, loved the day out walking in this national park, this is up there with a
Wards canyon as a favourite spot today. (Loved each of the side walks for different reasons. Messaged co the answers through this app.
We really enjoy learning about geology and loved this site, as well as learning about how it was formed. What a fascinating cavern!
Thanks for placing this EC for us to find.
We found this EC on our first day at Carnarvon Gorge, along with Moss Garden, and enjoyed the cool break in each.

We are on a 2 month trip from Portland via the Mundi Mundi Bash to a wedding in Brisbane and then out west for QOGM in Charleville.
We are camped in Carnarvon Gorge for a couple of days - a spot everyone says we have to visit. Mr Morris headed off for the day to visit the gorge and many of the side trips - all in all a pretty spectacular but tiring day. All up he walked 22.11kms for the day.
Answers will be on their way shortly.

An amazing place. The serenity spoiled for a bit by Geo Dad trying to sing a John Denver song.
This place was stunning. I wish we would have tried out the acoustics. I didn't as I didn't want to disturb others. What an adventure!
Found with goldielover. We are heading to big bend to camp a couple of nights and enjoy this great place.
While we were sitting here enjoying the quiet as we were the only ones in here, a tree came falling down from way above. Gave us a bit of a fright. Another great spot.
Thanks forpathfinders for encouraging us to visit this great place

My favourite feature today. This is truly amazing, and the geology of how it formed mashes it even more spectacular.
Carnarvon Gorge was an absolute highlight of our holiday road trip. Amphitheater was a hidden gem along the gorge walk, and another great place to visit. We took some photos inside the amphitheater with some interesting shadow figures.
Thanks for another great Earthcache. Answers sent and another favourite point given.

We had seen many photos of this location prior to visiting Carnarvon Gorge.
However, nothing prepared us for the enormity of this. The geology and how it was formed is truly spectacular.
We were fortunate when we arrived at GZ, to have the entire area to ourselves, so we took our time and sat in the amphitheatre in quiet solitude.
Thank you fourpathfinders. Of course, another FP here. Outstanding!

Last stop on the 35km hike day, before head back to camp.
This was kungfuchickendingo request to stop here, and wasn't too much out of the way.
One small creek crossing, a set of stairs. I don't like stairs now, have climb so many to Battleship Spur, and Wards Canyon.
Kung Fu and I discussed answers, then climb the railing to inside the cave.
Dark in here, late in the day, mozzies.
Opening up to the theatre.
Silence here - except this drip of water on the far side.
In fact so quiet, that Kung Fu and I were whispering from several metres apart and perfectly hear each other.
Glad we did make it here, despite being sore.

Now to camp for a beer

I first discovered this amazing gorge about 15 years ago and visited it in a break between two spells as a volunteer tutor with School of the Air. I treated myself to a few days at the nature lodge in luxury which enabled to explore Carnarvon Gorge. I didn’t get everywhere during my stay and was delighted to be able to revisit earlier this year after we’d been to the Dayboro event. We only had one day so could only do one trip up the main track. In those days I was a lot fitter and didn’t have arthritis in my knees, as I do now. However I did manage to get as far as The Ampitheatre and after a rest I braved the ladder/steps up to the entrance again. If I hadn’t been there before I probably wouldn’t have tried it this time, but I knew what was waiting for me there and just had to go again despite my fear of heights. Luckily the steps up there are far more robust than they were last time , which gave me more courage. The effort was well worth it again and once again I was awestruck with it.
Last time I was here I wasn’t even aware of geocaching. This time I was after the Earthcache, one of my favourite types of geocaches. Thanks for enticing me to visit this wondrous location again.

Recently returned from a Queensland outback adventure which included a trip to the amazing Carnarvon Gorge and now catching up on all my logging.
This Earthcache was awesome to visit and I know it would be dangerous to watch but I would love to see all the water swirling around in the heavy rains to just see what the 'washing machine' action would look like.

The first place we visited on our trek thro the area. Beautiful and cool in there, a very serene feeling.
I came out for a hike in the cool of early morning. It was lovely to be here on my own to enjoy the peace and quiet of this secluded place.

TFTC! Logging this for 01/09/21 now that we are back in reception ... Our day with a 4 year old where he walked 16km! This was the second of our stops. Carnarvon still is one of our favourite national parks.

Making our way back down the Gorge, we stopped in here. The climb up the ladders was a bit hairy due to the wet weather, but it was certainly worth it once up there. Walking through the narrow gap doesn't really set the scene to what you experience when you exit the other end.
Mother Nature is amazing in what she is able to do given time. This place is spectacular.

We set out fairly early and headed straight to the Amphitheatre. We met a few people along the way but they were going further into the gorge. We had already walked to Big Bend a couple of days ago.
As we entered the Amphitheatre, a family we had met yesterday on the Bluff were just leaving. That meant we had the Amphitheatre all to ourselves. It was nice to be able to sit and take it all in undisturbed. After a while we headed back out. On our way down to the creek crossing we heard a splash. "What's that?" Mrs. Herbz said. We stood still and looked and saw a platypus swimming around hunting for his breakfast! What a great experience this has been. Answers have been sent. TFTEC

My husband and I spent 2 days at Takaraka camp site thankfully in air conditioned cabin as it reached 40 degrees on both days . The first day we went to carnarvon cliffs, Takaraka lookout and A matter of time and the second day we walked to cathedral cave and did all the off shoots bar bulimba bluff. We left at 5.30 and after 22 km and just over 7 hours we made it back to the car exhausted and hot but very happy. This was our second stop and wow this place is amazing. We took and seat and admired this place.. Thanks for taking us here and for placing this cache here for us to enjoy . Giving it a FP FOR all the fun
A favourite to fourpathfinders for the earthcaches. New hip stood up to its first major test. Nice one.
We spent a couple of nights at takkarakka at the end of our road trip so that we could do Carnarvon Gorge. What a grand finale!! It really is spectacular! In one day our family did the four main sites, covering 14km over 7hours, so we fully stopped to enjoy each point of interest. This was our favourite I think. Nature is amazing. So glad we made the effort and I braved my fear of ladders (coming down) and got to enjoy this.
Day 3 of of a Queensland road trip with EatSleepCacheRepeat and JACS Team. This day was all about walking the main track in Carnarvon Gorge. I had done this previously, but the weather at that time was bad, and the river quite flooded. Entirely different experience today. We walked to Big Bend, then came back to the camping area doing all the offshoots. The bits I had seen before were just as amazing as last time, and the new area (Wards Canyon) impressed me even more. Such range of unique areas to enjoy. Favourite points all around. TFTC!
We drove here from Brisbane and were lucky enough to get a camping spot in the national park where our walks turned into laughing about our sore muscles over our camp cooked dinner, and then quiet nights turned into waking up to the sounds of the birds in the morning We spent three days exploring the trails (even the ones without geocaches ) I’m generally not a huge fan of the heavy touristy tracks, but this one is a must-do. Everything we saw, I loved. Especially the Aboriginal Art. Added extras on the hike were some wildlife spotting! We saw wallabies, a sugar glider, platypus, and an echidna as well as some amazing bird varieties
On Day 1 we did Boolimba Bluff lookout then set up our camp site Within our 3 days, our biggest walk was 30km on Day 2 where we made our way to the Big Bend, then did ALL the offshoots on the way back. The 20ish rock crossings were lots of fun, I couldn’t help kick off the hiking books and do two crossing bare foot on day 3 ️ which is where we did The Mickey Creek, rock pools, and cliffs
This weekend I also collected my 5000th geocache which I was pretty excited about! sharing the adventure with friends made it all the more enjoyable!
Now with tents packed we are off to find our next camp site! TFTECs

Well, what a hidden gem. Stride up the step ladder like a champion and through the crack to the most amazing site. This goes deep, took some time to imagine the water swirl before heading onwards.
Such an incredible spot. We have been camping in a nearby spot and did the walk today. Art Gallery, Ward's Canyon, Amphitheatre and Moss Garden.

1) about 1.5m at the bottom, in the middle about 3m, and about 2m at the top.
2) slate
3) massive holes in the walls where there were boulders and horizontal grooves in the walls
4) Pink, mauve, green, dark red, and gold. Pinky-mauve.

Wow. Everything about The Amphitheatre is stunning.. the entrance through the crack and being in The Amphitheatre with high walls all around. And yeah, it probably would get a bit echo-y with a crowd in the chamber but we were the only ones there at the time of our visit. Our legs were telling us this was our last place to see today, Boolimba Bluff will be tomorrow. TFTEC fourpathfinders, another fav from us.
What a beautiful setting Great place for a concert.

Walked from the visitor car park to bBig Bend ( no earth cache there).
Back to Cathedral Cave, Ward’s canyon, Art gallery, Amphitheater, and Moss Garden. We suggest the Boolimba Bluff on a seperate trip.

We did a wonderful walk with the Takarakka guide and saw many things and heard many stories we would not have known about had we done this on our own. This was one place we visited. I have submitted my answers to the CO and am logging the cache hoping they will be approved. This place is just amazing
Away on holidays and decided to revisit Carnarvon Gorge 20 years after the first visit. We were not disappointed!
A recent fire through the gorge left lots of features exposed which I dare say would’ve been hidden from view under greenery prior.
Got up early and set off at 6am for a hike up to The Art Gallery, enjoyed a rest while taking in the artwork then made our (Dad & myself) way back out of the gorge stopping at the highlights.
This track was closed after the recent fires but figuring we would probably never be back here, we decided to press on. Once again it was well worth the walk and we were not disturbed by anyone else. It was starting to get hot by this time of day so the cool retreat was very welcomed. It was so much fun reclining and gazing up at the top of the canyon. Even gave a cooee or two! Amazing place, if you’re ever in the area make sure you see this one.
Dad & I both enjoyed the interesting facts of how this space was created. Just a magnificent place, enjoyed the climb up the steps - what fun! TFTH

Why walk 15.5 KM's, when you can do in 31km's, to get the exact same number of Earth Caches.
What I'm I talking about? The first day I walked to the end or as far as I planned to go, which was "Art Gallery".
What a wonderful track, but a major disappointment when I found I didn't have "ANY" of my Geocaching stuff with me.
Back home or rather to our cottage, I went. Sigh!!!
The following day I was up earlier and off I went again, same track.......
Saw different animals and birds this day, which is a plus...

**Day 3 - International Earth Cache weekend - Carnarvon Gorge*
When Nyssaflutterby mentioned this International Earth Cache weekend some months back it was always going to happen. This place has been on my bucket list since the first time I looked down from above while flying over the area many, many moons ago.
After a 2 day road trip (including caching to get here we are finally at the gorge
So today accompanied by 1MinnieMoo, Lady membsec, mnance101, Slow Puncture, and Nyssaflutterby we made our way up to Cathedral Cave ( well the narrow gorge just past here) to seek out all of the brilliant Earthcaches in the area.
Another stunning display of the impacts of the forces of nature. This day just gets better.

Woohoo! International Earth Cache weekend had finally arrived. After a long road trip from Brisbane to Carnarvon Gorge for 1MinnieMoo, Lady membsec, mnance101, Slow Puncture, Ruzzelz and I yesterday, we rested up last night so we could head off nice and early this morning.
We spent some time here to rest and enjoy the peaceful surrounds. The answers required were discussed as a group and then we started the trek back to camp, stopping at the last EC along the way.
Thanks for the EC fourpathfinders

About a year ago, Nyssaflutterby set out an invitation to go to Carnarvon Gorge. It was about 20 years ago that I had been there and had always wanted to come back. So when I saw the invitation I jumped at the chance. After going to Cathedral Cave and Wards Canyon, we (Nyssaflutterby, Womble, 1Minniemoo, Membsec, Ruzzelz, Mrs Slow Puncture and myself) headed to the Amphitheatre. This was my favourite of today. Absolutely amazing! I really loved it. We have sent through our answers as a group. TFTC and for bringing us here!
Nyssaflutterby,1Minniemoo, Membsec, Mnance1, slow puncture and Ruzzelz and I had headed up here for annual Earthcache weekend. each year NF plans us a weekend of fun and earthcaches.
We arrived late on the Friday and set off today to walk through the gorge, walking to Cathedral Cave first and then visiting a few side trips on the way back to camp.
I thought Wards was my favourite place until we arrived here!
Just amazing! I loved it here.
Thanks for placing this Earth cache and bringing us here. Answers for the group have been sent to the CO from at least one of our group.

Saturday. Day 3 of our journey to Carnarvon Gorge for International Earthcache Day - and we are here! We had been here several years ago and at that time, we saw palm trees inside here, birds flying around and other trees / plants growing on the sides of the rock walls. Today’s visit though was completely different. Some time in between then and now, a cyclone must have visited this spot and the trees were now all gone! I would never have thought that I would have seen such dramatic changes (I don’t think I expected to however either).
So this earthcache held extra significance for me, as I feel privileged to have seen such dramatic changes in this spot. We had rock-hopped several times and were on our way back from the last two earth caches we’d visited (Cathedral Cave and Wards Canyon), so this was the third of four earthcaches we found today. I also remember that the small pathway into this cathedral was different to this visit (it seemed the rocks were more exposed). Amazing and awesome! Answers submitted to CO for consideration
This was the 3rd of 4 caches found on today's trip.
Thanks ***fourpathfinders***, for showing us this place.

This road trip to Carnarvon Gorge was organised quite sometime ago and after our big driving day yesterday, today we set out early in search of 4 earthcaches to celebrate the International Earthcaching weekend. Lady membsec arrived in Brisbane late on Thursday and met up with 1MinnieMoo, Nyssaflutterby, Wombles&Co, Mnance101, Slow Puncture and Ruzzelz, for 2 days of discovering Carnarvon Gorge. We had decided to do 4 of the Earthcaches today which involved going to the furthest (excluding Battleship) so Cathedral Cave first, then Wards Canyon, The Amphitheater and Moss Garden. The Amphitheater is such an incredible site. Nyssaflutterby and myself sat down admiring what was in front of us (and having a snack) before climbing the ladders. We were impressed with the split rock face but then when we climbed and saw the actual amphitheater, we just had to have another seat! Once again we sat quietly for quite sometime taking in everything that surrounded us!Then the discussions began about the answers to the questions. Eventually I think we all agreed....didn’t we?

The third Earthcache for our epic Earthcache Weekend. With Cathedral Cave and Ward's Canyon done, it was on to the Amphitheatre next. The group (NyssaFlutterby, Wombles&Co, membsec, mnance1, ruzzelz, Slow Puncture and myself) were doing rather well with the weather and pushed on once we got to this junction. Then we got to within sight of a metal staircase and what looked like a narrow opening through the rock. Well that was unexpected but looked so intriguing. So we dropped our packs down began our ascent up the ladders.
And talking about unexpected. What greeted us once we had climbed and walked a short way through, was a hidden world, an oasis, a little land all of its own that time forgot. Some serious wow-factor. I loved this spot, it truly was one of my favourite places out here, and as Slow Puncture said, you almost expected a dinosaur or two to just be roaming around here. Absolutely Gorge-ous!
Thanks for the cache fourpathfinders.

A shorter walk today to ease the muscles back into it. Wow what an amazing place to visit. The coolness was welcomed after the warm morning sun.
Gotcha !!! Walked up to Big Bend and visited many of the side trips on the return trip. Thanks for bringing us here again. Answers for all the COs Earth caches in this area will be sent in one e-mail. Thanks again.
An early start to do a longer walk to visit several of the wonderful and varied places along this interesting track This was my first side trip with a very unusual entry to an amazing space. Being early I had the place to myself to just sit and take it all in TFTC four pathfinders
What a great spot. Thanks for setting up this EC. Answers soon. TFTC fourpathfinders. Found 6/9/18 1:42 pm. Cache 1569 for us.

This is our second visit to Carnarvon Gorge. The amphitheatre was closed due to storm damage on our first visit. So we were keen to do this walk.
And it did not disappoint. Absolutely amazing. It really needs to be experienced. Best part of the gorge
Fav point from us

Yesterday went as far as Cathedral Cave. Did the side trails on way back with exception of Amphitheater. So set off this morning to fill in the blank. What a great spot!! We were glad to have left it for last. NINO TFTEC
Amazing ,words can not describe what we saw when we ventured up and in the Ampitheatre
A hidden world in there
Found with members of dayseekers while hubby sat out on bench on the trail (worn out) he was disappointed when we showed him the photos .
A favourite point for bringing us here
