I think I looked for this one previously but expended too much fuel getting to GZ. Today, I knew the most direct route, so I got to GZ with something left in the tank. TFTC.
We really enjoyed the walk on top of Takaka Hill! Has a great mountain feeling, with the rocky areas but also nice foresty areas. Plus the beautiful views, so lovely here!Got this one back from the parking lot as a nice dessert, tftc!
I headed to the obvious place for the cache only to find the distance from the cache increasing!! About turn and then I realise it was time to start climbing. Despite the beautifully fine day there is evidence of recent rain so I took care not to slide down the hill.Day 2 of The Wellingtonians are back tour with TwigNZ, YetiNZ, Mr-Mcgoo. After the last trip, with more caches for us to find, we decided we had to return. And, of course, there will be days of laughter, usually at my expense During our time here, all found caches were signed as NMTY (regardless of whether 2, 3 or all 4 of us hadn't found it previously), or with individual names for Challenge Caches according to whomever was claiming the find.Kia ora rawa atu for the cache bumandworker.
Back in June, four Wellingtonians (NZ_B, Mr-Mcgoo, TwigNZ and YetiNZ) came down to visit the Nelson region. We had such a blast that we decided to do it again, and here we are!
During our time here, all found caches were signed as NMTY (regardless of whether 2, 3 or all 4 of us hadn't found it previously), or with individual names for Challenge Caches according to whomever was claiming the find.
Day 2, and having spent 1 night in Takaka we are driving back down to Nelson via Kaiteriteri and Motueka and various stops along the way.
A relatively easy climb to GZ, and then a hunt around. Even with so many eyes looking, it took a little while to find the well hidden cache. A few photos were taken before we headed back down to the car.
All is fine here, thank you for setting this one up.

Some time ago a group of us from Wellington decided that what we should do is come down to the Nelson region for a long weekend of Geocaching. So we did. We had such a good time that just a few months later we decided to do it again. The same team to the same location, with the same agenda. The only real goal for this four day break is exploring, having fun, and finding more of the unfound geocaches in the area.
Day two of this trip took us from the labyrinth rocks of Tākaka over the hill to Kaiteriteri, through Motueka and back to Nelson. We stopped at many caches along the way, and this was one of them.
Most of our finds here we signed the log with the collective name of N.M.T.Y to represent the four of us: NZ_B, Mr-Mcgoo, TwigNZ, and YetiNZ.
---
Thanks to bumandworker for placing and maintaining this cache. I enjoy each and every cache I find, and it is only with Geocachers like this creating them and placing them out in the world that this wonderful game continues.

(# 8155) On a caching trip to the Nelson/Golden Bay area for a repeat trip for the four amigos. Day two of this trip took us from Takaka over the hill to Kaiteriteri, through Motueka and back to Nelson. Tripping with NZ_B, TwigNZ and YetiNZ. Another day full of hilarity with nobody being spared being the butt of the jokes. I think this should have been Yards Up and Up. Signed the log with NMTY.

In Nelson for some relative's birthdays. Working remotely most of the week, but took today off to cache. My eldest grandson and I went for a drive to Takaka and back (from Stoke) to grab a few challenges, do some walks, and top up my 1.5/1.5 find numbers. 38 caches all up including 5 labs. Cache easily found. TFTC.

On our way to Pohara for the long weekend & this was a scramble up the hill to grab this one. I wasn't wearing the most ideal footwear, surprise, surprise, so I took it slow up the track. RNZ was all over it & nabbed it quick!!

A few caches for RG72 and I today on the way out to Pohara, which is where we are spending the long weekend.
A short walk up here. RG came up as well although she didn’t really have the footwear for it.
Found within a few minutes, but the hint could have related to a few objects around here. TFTC B&W, all good.

Found after a bit of a hunt as we headed back to our accommodation. Four wagging tails enjoyed the hill climb in the dusk. All good with the cache
Tregearp and I parked, made our way to the general vicinity of the GZ. The find took a few minutes, but great views. All in good order. Signed log and replaced as found. Thanks b&w for No. 3 in the day.
Time for a quick cache and stretch of the legs on the way home to Nelson today. Found by us and NZ5 who is taking great delight in being able to sign with his own user. TFTC.
Out walking the Takaka Hill Walkway today grabbing a few caches. Had just done the loop and the legs felt the final surge to grab this one. Thanks for the cache.
A nice quick find thanks. A nice day from scrambling up rocks!
Found as we moved from Motueka into Golden Bay. The weather has been the best since we left Christchurch.
Thanks to all CO's for publishing and maintaining their caches. Cheers.

A successful climb, as the starting point for the Takaka Hill Walk.

Having completed the delightful (but tougher than anticipated) Takaka Hill Walkway this morning we realised this T4 was right by our car. I was sent up to get it as the rain was just starting to come on heavily!
Luckily it was in the first place I looked.

As the rain started in earnest again, the lure of a final cache before lunch was too great! 10 minutes later we are eating our picnic in the car. TFTC
The logbook is a bit wet anyway I didn't have a pen. So I made the picture instead. My husband (with the pen) didn't want to climb.
Thanks for the cache and greetings from Hamburg Germany

Having just conquered the other mountain climb, why not 1 more! This was also an interesting 1 to reach but after my delay in finding the last 1, I was happy to find it in the first spot I looked!
TFTC A friend took me walking, and I took her caching!

We had taken my 82 year old dad for a walk along the nearby walkway to do the earth cache and to find one traditional. We were having a cup of tea and a bite to eat when I said to GK that there is one really close - just up there somewhere. I left the phone on and after our cuppa he suggested we go and see if we can find it. Dad stayed at the car and we headed up the hill, it was a much quicker find than I thought it may have been. I took a photo from GZ so that dad could see the views as well. Thanks bumandworker for placing this cache
Nine days to do some caching for the price of four leave days - who could complain about that! I found a quirky place to stay near Motueka, and decided to base myself there to cache in the wider area. I had a few on my hit list, and ended up finding a great variety of different caches on the trip.
Day seven - the weather was promised to be a bit less stable compared to the previous days, so I picked a shorter walk just in case. Except for a few occasions of spitting, I remained dry!
This was a great warm up for the walk, and I am glad I did it first thing! Thanks for dragging me up here, amazing views!

Good scramble and a few new scratches but well worth it. Found a much better way down than i took up.
Much fun, thanks very much!
Much fun, thanks very much!
It took a few minutes to spot the cache but perseverence paid off. Nice hiding spot, great views from up here. TFTC
Thought this was a short walk for a last cache after a long day caching. Didn't look at the T rating. It wasn't fun to climb up in the hot sun through gorse to get to a well hidden cache. Still, a good view from here. Tftc
Climbed and scrambled to this one but no luck. Certainly longer that 1 or 2 mins Felt we were in the right area. Found evidence that someone else had been in that same area. Another day.
One of the geocaches that we did during a trip to New Zealand as part of our Lions Tour Holiday. TFTC.
Sat in the car and had an early lunch whilst waiting for a vanload of walkers to depart. Once they left headed off to grab the cache.
As we came back from Golden Bay last weekend we were going to look at popping in and doing this cache but as we approached there was extremely thick low cloud over the hills and as there were others here to do we decided to come back this weekend and do them all so a bit of a scramble up for the first of the day - cache was soon found and log signed - took the oppourtunity to take a photo of the view back down to the carpark - thanks for the cache
A slow start o the day and the sun was well up as we started the climb to this one. We had a quick look up the hill from the carpark last week but left for a return visit. Set off full of vigor and I wasn't too long before the cache was spotted. A quick sign and amber back down to start a walk up the track to grab a few caches that have been placed since our last visit. TFTC
I went Up while Alastair stayed Down and did his instagram / snapchat thing that the younger generation of today do to let the world know what their up to. It was a little more "Up' than I initially expected but the cache was soon fond and i was on my way down again. Cheers and TFTC
On Wed 7th the brand new Oregon 700 hiccuped and lost all cache details from the Takaka PQ. Still showed icons with cache names- but no details. So a trip to the Takaka internet cafe to note down the directions and hints for a handful of essential Takaka caches... saw this was by the carpark so noted details for this one too. Some in the family had detoured to see [Petrified Buttercup](https://www.geocaching.com/geocache/GCNP1W_petrified-buttercup-nelson-marlborough?guid=c466b1e9-c9d4-41f0-9b01-e80e100b2600) again - yes, she is still there in all her glory - so took the opportunity for a short scramble up the hill and an easy find.
I have been up here looking for this cache before, on a caving trip here. But I got thoroughly boxed in by gorse, decided it was too hard and flagged it.
Today, however, is Go-Find-A-Souvenir day and the TaybeeDragon and I decided to to visit the great green fields of Nelson and Takaka and turn a small patch of it yellow. After all, there is an earth cache just down the path. So up the hill again. Sure there is lots of gorse, but it was clear to the cache - I must have picked the long way last time! Thanks for the cache!

Its Souvenir Hunt Earth Cache Day- Road trip to Takaka via St Arnaud! Hey What! Lets Go.
Keep look out for some sheep yards ahead. Yep right. Now up the hill - bugger prickles but thankfully not many. Seagnoid bags this one. Cheers

Park and get? Yeah, eventually. It was a bit more of a walk than anticipated for these old legs but got there in just a few minutes then spent more time looking for the cache when the GPS offered a few options. In the end Hazedarus was on the right level to find the cache. It took just as long to get back down on the dry slippery grass but managed it without mishap.
Thank you bumandworker.
Thank you bumandworker.
This I found as: Yes, yards up. No: A short "walk". However great fun and the kind of caching I really like. I'm not sure for how long I'll be able to get these. Our muggle companion for the day as a former station owner was fascinated by the yards. Thank you Bumandworker
We have been on a road trip trough New Zealand for 25 days. After finishing the eastern part of the Takaki Hill Walkway and the Bush Walk I ran up the hill to find this cache.
Thanks for the cache

A fun day out with kids, cousins, lollies and Dads that needed exercising. 5yr old and I found this a bit more than a P and G but was fun. TFTC
I think maybe my footwear wasn’t so appropriate for the climb – lots of young gorse making the trip a slow and careful picking of the route. Still, all worth it once I got to the top and sat down to admire the view. Thanks for placing this cache. Apologies for late logging
We wanted this one to add to our terrain rating so decided to go for it but just take it slowly. It was windy on the way up and with no clear geotrails we had to decide what was the best way to approach it. We were pretty happy when we got here and found the cache. We sat there for a few minutes taking in the view before dreading the decent back down. The grass was pretty dry and slippery and just when I thought we had gotten down unscathed Mum slipped and did this bent splits type thing. (ouch!) We decided not to do the walk to the Earthcache after that. Thanks for the cache though
A quick easy find after a steep wee climb. We probably should have looked at the terrain rating before we reached the cache. TFTC
After walking around the Wharariki headlands in strong wind this felt like a T17.5. Feels like we've aged 20 years since this morning. TFTC bumandworker.
On our way to the Bay for the weekend.
We found time in the misty drizzle to go for a walk and clean up this park once again.
Nuggety little ascent here while Ms M waited in the Car.

Find #2407. Exploring Tasman district for a few days, this my second day. Made an early start to get over the Takaka Hill (some 12kms longer and 250m higher than my local Rimutaka Hill). Cold wind blowing but sunny. Bit of a scramble to get to this. SL TFTC
NZDi and I have been planning a long weekend in Golden Bay for a month or so and today these plans came into fruition. Of course a long weekend out of town would not be complete without the odd cache thrown in and so a few caches were planned along the way. The weather back in Blenheim had been crap all week and the forecast for the weekend was not that flash either, however as soon as we got across the Whangamoa's we could see this part of the country was bathed in sunshine.
This was our eighth cache of the day and after parking in the handy car park we headed towards GZ. It soon became apparent that to get to the cache was going to require a slight gain in elevation so up we went. A good set of coordinates had me in the general area and as I have about 250 of this CO's 2000+ caches, my geo-senses soon had the cache in hand.

We found this cache today in the pouring rain. We are only in the nelson area for 2 days so thought we would make the most of the trip despite the rain. It was a quick puff up the hill and we saw one of the giant snails that the sign talks about. It's shell was about 4cm wide. We were very impressed. After the brief distraction the cache was a quick find. TFTC
Found during our road trip From Nelson to the wild west and return. Great day's caching was had.
This was distinguished itself by not being a 'drive up and grab'. A bit of a breeze running through the saddle and a snow capped vista to the west. Would liked to have roamed around here some more. Will have to be another day.
Cache find was straightforward.
Log signed. Cache safely re-hidden, just as found.
TFTC found with team cacher Sweet P too

A day trip to Nelson with my caching daughter nightowl19 and to boost her, and my, South Island cache finds. The day was 'planned' around the earthcaches at the top, and bottom, of Riwaka hill and entailed few inevitable stop offs, park and grabs, small walks etc, you get the picture. In the end we grabbed just over 20 caches and I moved closer, but not yet at, my target of 3000 finds (that will be done tomorrow)
Had a great day including a swim in the sea at high tide at Tahunanui, seeing the Riwaka resurgence and a fish and chip supper on Nelson waterfront, getting 'home' at 9.30 (for the second night in a row).
Temperatures today ended up reaching the magical 30 degree mark, too hot for some caches in the end so the plan was reduced a little bit.
A small 'diversion' on the way through Richmond to try and find ten normal (not Premium member) Traditional caches, as was the intention for most of todays finds as nightowl19 isn't a Premium member.....yet
Arrived at our destination and the temperature is too high for poor nightowl19 and she feels a bit ill. Grabbed this close cache then turned round and headed for the resurgence cache(s)

It's been many years since we had been to Golden Bay, and a long weekend seemed an ideal time to reacquaint ourselves with the area (and find a few caches as well ).
A few yards from the car park, yeah, right. I was still panting up the hill when StreetWalker found the cache, so missed out on the view from GZ. TFTC.

#8430. The cache proved to be quite a few yards up. Easy find once I'd scrambled to GZ. TFTC.
Straight forward find after a short scramble on a beautiful day. Will have to come back some day to do the walk. TFTC
Fun climb but having just done Queen Elizabeth meets Takaka Hill it was a piece of cake TFTC

A quick find late this afternoon on the way to Takaka. There was a faint geotrail leading to it which made my job a lot easier. Enjoyed the stroll up the hill Signed log, TFTC
Gosh that was easier than I was expecting. I should have popped up here sooner but kept putting it off due to the T rating. The long grass and hay fever was the most dangerous bit for me today. Otherwise all good and cache found instantly at gz.

Old enough to appreciate the double meaning in the name, Mrs S looked at the area and decided she didn't need to wait for another trip with the other part of the team. She was sure the CO had checked the terrain was OK and a SAR callout would not be needed to retrieve Mrs Sobad from the bottom of a tomo. A fun finish to a day visiting Kaiteri.. and caching here as there were no caches left unfound there. A lovely summers day before the Christmas crowds arrive. So why was there another person climbing the hill... a 9 year old boy so what would you expect. Cache spotted before he arrived and retrieved after he left.
Thanks for the fun - and a relatively easy T4 from the CO.

The Cretan Runners took a walk around Takaka Hill and picked up some caches as we went. We really enjoyed the walk and the diverse landscape and terrain in this area. Thanks to the cache owners who have placed these caches for us to enjoy. This one was the eighth and last cache of the day. It's a steep climb out of the car park but we didn't think there would be any tomos here so we took a cache and climbed for the cache. TFTC.
Even the sign says "stay on track" we climbed up the hill an found this one at the first spot. TFTC
Caching with Sidewaze...of course muggles had to arrive as we were "scrambling" up. Luckily I could pose as a photographer... TFTC
Nice one! Enjoyed the scramble up to GZ although the wind was really biting. No problems finding the cache as coordinates seemed spot on to me. TFTC, Biggles.
Found this while on holiday in the South Island, a bit of a climb but was well worth the views. TFTC
Went for a little jaunt a few yards up. The forecasted rain arrived on the way back down but not for long. TFTC #5120
Our last cache for the morning the rain had realy set in and the low cloud made it impossible to even see the road TFTadventure
Seized the opportunity to pick this up on our way home today .. Easy find but damn that hill is steep, especially the second time - I realized once back at car I'd left my GPS at GZ
