Back to caching after a 5 year break! A wee caching adventure in the North Island and lovely to see some familiar names. Hi!Thoroughly enjoyed this trail, loved that every hide is unique. Wandered here this evening with someone who had never cached before so it was great to be able to discover different things along the way. Thanks ever so much for the hides here.

Found this again almost 10yrs after first finding it with the kiddos as newish cachers on New Years Day 2015 while camping at the Ashhurst Domain. Cache in good condition, nice to refund it again on this full walk of the cycleway with my sister and niece (Siegelfamnz)

On my way to Hastings, doing some side quests SmileNice little walk to get out of the car for some time.TFTC#817

07-May-24
Doing a bit of a whirlwind trip around the North Island - Lower Hutt-Palmerston North-Hawera - to see friends and family. Have my eye on a few caches to fill in my "months hidden" grid, this being one.I would have enjoyed doing all the caches along this trail, but a lack of time and a bike meant I had to settle for just the first one. Cache was a quick find due to a nice geotrail. Thanks for the cache

18-Jun-23
Having been up in Wanganui for the weekend (as I often am) I had to head (back) over to Ashhurst on Sunday morning for some work related maintenance. After that was done, as I had had a nice early start to my day, I decided to do some of the caches in the area and this was one of them.

I didn't make it all the way down the pathway today as I had set myself a timelimit for the area. But I did get the first half done, and as half of the CO's had done maintenance here recently it was nice to know that I was likely to find them all. And I did.

---
Thanks to Etherlord and the Seagnoid for placing and maintaining this cache. I enjoy each and every cache I find, and it is only with CO's like this creating them and placing them out in the world that this wonderful game continues.

[DGSc-Bulk] tagging to help me generate a list for GC30AD8 - DGSc Challenge.

Stopped the night at Ashhurst domain while doing the north island geo tours. I hopped on my bike and came down here to grab some more caches. Thanks for placing Etherlord and Seagnoid. I wouldn't have come along here otherwise and it was lovely.

Out on a walk with geohound taking advantage of the medium nice weather. Cache was nice and dry inside and well hidden. The resident possum in the tree was very concerned after being bothered by the hound.

Picked up the TB and dropped one of mine off to start its journey Smile

Thanks for the cache

I'm staying at Woodville Ferry Reserve, and headed on through the gorge on my bike. Seeing this cool looking trail along here, I cycled over to the start, before making a quick find. Dropped off a TB as well, TFTC

TFTC 1st of the days walk, hopefully many more. Thanks for these & giving me a reason to exercise.

08-Mar-22
Took a short walk to the cache, followed the geotrail and was soon signing the log Big Grin

Discovered the TB which I see has now been picked up and moved.

On the way down the bank, had a nasty fall and found myself on the cycleway, a bit scraped, but no serious injury. Woops! picked myself up and dusted self off.

06-Mar-22
Family fun was a foot. We were all looking forward to going on an adventure. The medium family members were very excited to locate this one. Thanks for a great easy find.

25-Feb-22
Drat! We found this cache out in the open - though unscathed - so we signed the log, added a TB and put it carefully away. However, I now see that we have put it a little higher than the clue suggests. Sorry. Unintentional cache creep. Hope the next finder can put it back in it's right area. TFTC

Coordinates changed to:
S 40° 18.354 E 175° 45.425

Distance from original: 427.7 feet or 130.4 meters.

This series has been long overdue maintenance visit.
Thanks for everyone's patience.

Cache is in good order and in the correct location, which is not the right position.
There is a Thorn attribute on this listing for a reason, and I've never been happy about that. Especially as this is the first cache in the series and doesn't give a good first impression Sad

Today when I visited, I got stabbed and stung by bramble and nettle, so this location needs reconsidering.
I have moved the cache to a new location nearer to the starting gate. It's a much nicer location with much less of a scramble up the bank.

Hopefully this will give a better experience for finders.

11-Jul-21
Needing one more cache to qualify for the current promotion, and this is the closest.
Apparently it *IS* all about the numbers! Razz

06-Jun-21
with being a long weekend we decided on another trip to the Manawatu.
we based ourselves in Ashurst. with lots of caches around the general area.
main idea was to complete the 20/20 series which we had all the solves for now, plus anything else.
we checked ourselves into local pub, arriving just with enough time to have a couple of beers.
plan today head up thr valley one side back down the other.
caches all in fairly good order.
thanks to the owners for the placements.

With Gap (of Fap and Gap)... Roaming around the wide open spaces of the Manawatu this weekend. We’ve had the caching brakes on for far too long, and it’s a weekend to cut loose.

It’s a new day and a chance to knock off some hides we’ve had our sights on… This riverside trail was an easy stroll for the most part. Each of the caches we found offered something novel and different. You can always tell when a trail is popular by the well worn geotrails through the grass. Thanks Etherlord and the Seagnoid and TFTC.

05-Jun-21
A nice afternoon to go for a stroll on our way back home from Woodville. Thanks for placing the cache

13-Aug-20
I had a job to do in Palmy and knowing some of team bop (McJandals) were down here decided we needed to team up and do a few caches before heading home. Tftc

13-Aug-20
I was in the Manawatu and got the call from part of the team (Team BoP) who were on a quick day trip, a spur of the moment trip as one of our members had a job to do in Palmy so in the van we went trying to clear some of our previous un-found caches and some others as well.

This one dodged recent mulching.

I am logging using the Cachly app template so please excuse generic logging along the way. It’s just my way of keeping track, but I do genuinely thank each and every one of you cache owners for taking the time and energy to place these cache. Many Thanks for bringing me here. Cheers.

12-Jul-20
Out in Ashhurst today grabbing a few I didn't get when here for Community Celebration Event as the rest of my 'team' had already found them previously.
Having accomplished the finds I specifically wanted thought I'd take a walk along the cycle trail.
Because I'm carrying a heavy cold I only grabbed three this visit. This was the first one. TFTC

10-Jul-20
Did the trail from the other end so this start was our finish. Only one cache not found. Beaut day, sun out in the school hols. Thanks for all the caches

14-Mar-20
First find for today. Yes I see what people mean about the stinging nettle . TFTC.

03-Mar-20
Spent the night in Woodville on my way to Whanganui. Had the day to collect some local caches on route. Decided to do these caches on foot. Had a disastrous start and disturbed some wasps. Ended up being stung by a wasp and stinging nettles before finding the cache. After taking a few moments to calm down I found the cache. Thanks.

04-Feb-20
The start of what turned out to a really good cache trail. This was a nice straightforward find to get things going but it certainly didn't set any kind of theme for what was to come. TFTC.

30-Nov-19
Fairly quick find after a false geotrail. Only had time for the most obvious. Signed a new book!

20-Nov-19
Visited today with a replacement container.
I found the first container very quickly and the second one soon after. Not surprising really considering they were on either side of the same pole...
Both containers opened easily enough, but I replaced them with a 200mL sistema anyway.

If you find a cache that is *not* a 200mL sistema, please let me know! Smile

02-Nov-19
We decided that a walk along this trail would make a pleasant end to a wonderful caching day. Didn't get off to the best start here - spotted the cache after a bit of a search but no matter how hard we tried neither of us could get it to open. As we probably won't be back in the area for quite a while we have taken a phot - happy to send if needed. TFTC # 14,901

P.S. hmmm curiouser and curiouser - there is another cache there because the photo we have isn't either of those siblings

02-Nov-19
After a day driving about collecting caches it was time for a walk along the Riverside before calling it a day. No problem finding this one but couldn't open it. We have a photo if needed. Cheers.

01-Sep-19
Found but couldn't get into it.

24-Aug-19
We were heading back to Auckland after staying in Masterton for a few days and saw this series was here. Although we didn't really have time to stop we couldn't resist when we saw the beautiful walkway and decided to find the first few caches.
It didn't take us long to spot this one but we also had the problem many of the previous finders have mentioned and couldn't open the container so we have taken a photo as proof.
From reading some recent logs it seems there may be two containers there which would explain why some finders have no issues.
In any case, a great first stop along the trail. TFTC.

21-Aug-19
I found the gold container hanging on the fence but could not get it open (cross threaded perhaps). Didn't realise there was something else here as well. TFTC

10-Aug-19
Will write later

10-Aug-19
Took the children out to explore this new path.
We were surprised to find two different containers at this site. Signed them both.
The wet weather made this cache a slip sliding fun one.

13-Jul-19
Found on our way to Palmy for the weekend. We couldn't undo the container either-seen a few of these so know we were at the right end!

19-Jun-19
Completing the series today for numbers and also 175° Coordinates. This series gives another one we need.

Quick find. Not sure why pliers were needed as the cache unscrewed with ease. tftc.

02-Jun-19
Came over to replace the cache but found it opens easily. Are you all trying to open the wrong bit? Log full so new log added.

24-Apr-19
Found easily opening a problem have taken a selfie with cache as proof tftf

21-Apr-19
Nice to be back out and about collecting this cache we missed previously having parked nearby. Unfortunately we didn't read the previous log and turned up with no pliers to open the cache. So have taken photo instead. Any easy find. TFTC

11-Mar-19
Stuck, can't open, if you are reading this and intend to do this trail soon, could you please bring 2 pairs of gripping pliers to do the job ( photo of cache attached ). I have messaged the owner as well.

16-Feb-19
Sealed shut.....could be rusted closed or really really tight. We couldn't open to sign

16-Feb-19
This geocacher reported that the container is damaged.

11-Jan-19
Be careful of the thorns! Couldn’t open it to sign it sorry - it was stuck tight! Fun little walk with the pushchair and 4yo on his bike

25-Aug-18
Having traveled up to Palmy after work on Friday to spend some time with friends, I had a completely free day to myself. What to do with it? Well I can think of a lot worse things to do than take a casual stroll along a riverbank in good company, grabbing caches along the way.

This whole walk was virgin territory for me, having never been here before either as a cacher or otherwise, so I was hoping for a good result with these caches. There's no doubt I was greatly aided by having one of the Cache owners alongside me for the walk. It made for a speedier find on several of the caches simply by telling me if I was heading off in the wrong direction around GZ.

The final of our stroll along the river, as we had done them in reverse. A quick find once at the right level. A little care needed to get there due to the slippery conditions but all good at GZ. Log swiftly signed and all returned exactly as found.

Thanks for placing and maintaining these caches.

01-Jul-18
Quick find. Thanks.

01-Jul-18
Little slippery but great find

Was up in Palmy this weekend and had the bikes, so we went for a ride along the river trail with allepousse. The weather just held off and it was a very pleasant ride.

Nice easy find.

01-Apr-18
Last one of 10 caches we located today along this part of the river trail. Cycled the 3kms or so to the (current) end, with the intention of finding as many of the caches as possible on the way back. Made slightly harder work of this one than I needed to. Scrambled up the bank, endeavouring to avoid the brambles and sting nettles! Missed the initial post and spent time inspecting three others before returning to first base, which of course is where it was. #1739. TFTC.

Good hunt through all the blackberry bush. Will put on watchlist.
