Out with the Flexi crew to challenge ourselves physically this morning.
This was a tough walk for some and the turn around point for those that had pushed themselves to their limits. Others forgot to navigate to the cache and had to be called back after overshooting.
All's well with the cache. Thanks for challenging us.

Quick found on my way down the hill. Too many mozzies around...Sad But cache was great, thanks.

Found while in Townsville to attend the Mega event.

I travelled up from Adelaide, taking a week or so so get here, meeting up with FeatherWaite to do some caching around the Cunnamulla area then continuing on to Barcaldine and Charters Towers.

While in Townsville I teamed up with Budgietas, Stainless-steel-rat and Gooseandegg on some days, including a day on Magnetic Island, and with Davidwazza at other times. When caching with Davidwazza, logbooks were signed DWEG1.

All in all it was a great week or so in Townsville, with plenty of great caches found.

Thanks corikra for the cache.

During the Easter long weekend, it was all about the Townsville Mega event! Highlights included a hike at Cape Pallarenda Conservation Peak, walks atop the local mountains of Mount Stuart, Castle Hill, and Mount Louisa, checking out a few shady spots along Ross River, sewer pipe / tunnel adventures, and a scuba dive to see the Museum of Underwater Art at John Brewer Reef. The Mega events themselves were fantastic: Gadget lab caches, GPS maze, trivia night, tree planting CITO, and Cal's Escape Room. There was also plenty of geocaching to be had, such as power trailing through the geoarts The Saint and the Book, and the collection of challenge caches at Bushland Beach mudflats. My view of Townsville had completely changed from my trip experience, and much kudos to the Cache Qld Townsville Mega Committee.

Following our visit north of Rowes Bay which included Pallarenda, we decided to spend the rest of the morning heading up to Castle Hill, hoping to use the current moderate temperature before the heat and humidity would set in the afternoon (or on another day). After making a stop halfway up, we then parked at the summit's lookout, and then admired the views of Townsville. We then took a descent down the hill, and proceeded to walk around its base along the trails.

That is sure one huge boulder nearby! The cache took a few minutes of looking at GZ before it was soon found. The cache container was in good shape, but the logbook is looking scrappy, so it is probably due for a replacement logbook. We decided to sign the geocache as DWEG1 (Davidwazza and e.gregory1) to save space in the logbook. A cute cache though! Thanks corikra for the cache placement and ongoing maintenance.

The best thing about finding caches while climbing a hill is the excuse to stop and have a break. Thanks for the cache

While it was easy to find the other cache on this track, I had to try this cache twice. If only I would have trusted my GPS the first time instead of poking around in possible hiding spots.
Thanks for the cache.

Found it! DEFINITELY took the wrong path here... rock scrambled all the way from the quarry good challenge just before dark in the end. TFTC!

We are now picking up a few last finds in Townsville before our last dinner out here before heading home tomorrow.

We picked up a couple and then headed off for one last climb, we don’t think there’s a mountain that we have left untouched here.

We have loved our caching adventure up in sunny Townsville!

TFTC Found after a good stretch & a nice solo hike (without the geo-munchkins)... Great walk & it’s so good to do in the cooler temp in our winter. This cache is definitely the first of its kind for me. Signed log, left SWAG, RAF.

(Note: only about 2/3 more spots left on the log before log needs replacing)

Tuesday. It was a nice warm up to this cache. Fun getting to Smile My arrow wasn’t playing very well, and was pointing several hundred metres away which made looking for the cache a bit hard. Only a few moments ago it said I was 10m away… So it was Que Sera who made the find amongst the rocky area here. Nice little container hiding the cache. Definitely something a geocacher would pick out easily. After this cache, we continued along the path and then found the sloped bit of granite rock which was easily navigated. Easy to see where the pathway is on this so many people walk it.

This was the 2nd of 15 caches found on today's trip.

Thanks ***corikra***, for showing us this place. Smile

TFTC. This was our last day in Townsville . We had just completed all the caches we could along The Strand. We were getting close to a milestone so we looked for some caches as we headed black to camp at Ross River Dam.
After doing the stretches, I clambered along the trail to GZ . GPS was playing games but eventually settled and I located the hide. I was not going to do the climb nd not leave with a smilie face.

Clever cache container. Enjoyed the climb so far. Continuing on and up in search of the next caches. Corikra thank you for placing this cache.

Did some maintenance today, however, I didn't have what I needed for this one. The outer container is broken, so I will find something new. The actual cache container with (slightly damp) log is still in place.

I decided to check this one out .... after all it didn't look far on the map. I almost died from heat exhaustion, and killed in the mozzie invasion when I finally came upon the severely damaged cache. Tossed out in the open and stripped of its back, the little cache was not at all happy. Nice view though.

27-Jul-14
A very interesting cache! Thanks for the cache corikra! Smile

Staying at a caravan park in Townsvillle, on our 3rd trip around Australia.
Today, we decided to tackle a few caches on Castle Hill.

Geo-wife tackled this walk, as geo-hubby planned to walk another trail.
She took the lazy approach, and the walk was broken up by finding a cache or 3.
GPS didn't settle down for a while, so this one took longer to find than it should have.
Many thanks for placing this cache, corikra, great camo.

Well, I'd stretched and wandered up to the Maidenhair track junction.

Decision time - grab some puzzles on the flatish Maidenhair track or challenge myself with another hill climb in the heat.

It wasn't very far to this one and I am a glutten for punishment, so I headed up the hill to finish my warm up. Except that I was already boiling hot (it was 3 pm!).

Cache was thankfully in the shade. That's two containers I've seen today like this. Another fine effort, Corikra. Thanks for the cache.

So far so good but i realised that i didn't bring any water for the climb so will probably not get to the top today. Quick find and sign some ants were moving in so evicted them. TFTC
