Time for my first published Earthcache to be Archived!

20-Nov-16
Might be time to go with this one

03-Jul-16
Looks like the rocks have gone, so I am disabling it for the time being. It lasted a lot longer than I expected and I'm glad it gave a few people the opportunity for another smilie!

30-Jun-16
Apparantely I missed it by only a few hours. They've been removed.

07-Jun-16
A good place for an earthcache. Answers were figured out without too much trouble (we think) and then we looked at that meteorite. Another Earthcache one day? Answers have been sent.

23-Mar-16
Thank you so much for this earthcache. I have been wanting to visit for a while, and finally had a chance today. I also wanted to get here before the massive redevelopment of the area which is suggested will shut the museum down for four years. Sad
I enjoyed checking out the rocks and figuring out the required answers.

05-Mar-16
I understand the rocks are still accessible here, although there is limited access until around the 13th due to Fringe World Festival 2016...

04-Mar-16
Ehhmm I think it's all gone. There's a pop up bar and a fringe world tent and some tables...

22-Feb-16
Came early in the morning, friendly and bored security gaurd let me through for two minutes. TFTC!

14-Jan-16
The area was fenced off due to work being done but I spotted the rocks and sneaked in the slightly open gate and had a very quick look and took some pictures and then made a hast departure. Answers emailed. Thanks for a great earth cache and for bringing me here to see these interesting rocks

Found with Disa Urq who sent in the answers

12-Dec-15
Found while on a short holiday in WA. While waiting for CT_ZA to fly in and join me I headed into Perth, looking for earthcaches and other more unusual cache types.
This was the first cache of a great trip, and appropriately an earthcache.
I enjoy geology, so locations such as these appeal to me. Glad to see them displayed to a wide audience.
I wandered around and took some notes. Answers emailed to the CO.
Thanks for the earthcache, Geology Boy.

04-Dec-15
Today I visited this museum together with Philippluca and a muggle friend. After the exhibitions inside we needed some air, so we got out and as we were there we tried to answer this cache. The answers were sent to the owner. Thanks for showing, now we just learnt more about these rocks!

Solved this Cache together with Jack Dalton. Thanks for these interesting informations! Jack sent the answers.

24-Nov-15
Day 23 of the trip and needed to pick one up on the way down to Preston Beach, where we were spending the night, in order to maintain the streak. I am trying to complete the most earthcaches I can while I'm in Perth so this was the main reason for coming off our route in order to get this one.

Another chance for me to see some Orbicular Granodiorite, which I had experienced in the Earthcache at UWA, earlier in the holiday. It really is a beautiful rock! I've never been prepared enough before to take measuring equipment with me, but this time I was armed with a couple of rulers which were very useful. I'm hoping against hope that all the answers that I've sent are correct, there was one question which I couldn't quite get my head round but fingers crossed!!

Thank you so much to Geology Boy for setting this cache and I hope to get the Narrows Interchange before I go too - fingers crossed!!

I examined these most interesting rocks while on a lunch excursion. Thanks for the info about them. Perhaps the museum should consider putting up a sign.

Email to follow shortly.

Visiting Perth for a work conference. This was just a short walk from where I was staying. Out caching with MelHarmon.

Thank you very much for the cache.

On our early morning run this morning, this Earthcache was our first port of call. We thought we were locked out and were just working out whether we could fulfil it from the perimeter when Geodad realised the gate as unlocked. In we went but we needed to dodge the sprinklers! We have submitted our answer and we retreated to the outside to take a photo. Caching this morning with Tomstache. Thanks Geology Boy.

16-Sep-15
Went to this cool spot very early this morning with McLookers. The sprinklers were on but we got close enough to answer the questions. Thanks for the EC Geology Boy. Answers submitted.

Passed by here on my way home from work. Great to learn about rocks. Thanks.

Kitti Kati and I in Australia - Day 23:

Today is our first day in Perth and so we decided to walk a down the street in direction of the Esplanada. Our first stop was at this earth cache. We didn't ordered some rocks but we get a lesson about the different types of rocks. Very Happy
We inspected the rocks and after a few discussions we think we had found the right answers.
Nice place to enjoy, thanks for showing. Smile

TFTC and greetings from Germany

I explored this area for the first time after seeing an Earthcache listed here. I had no idea this back area of the museum existed. Spent some time examining the rocks and taking photos, then went home to research them and submitted what I hope are the correct answers.. Hopefully my answers will meet with your approval, Geology Boy. Thanks for putting this Earthcache here.

04-Aug-15
Have sent answers to Geology Boy via email. TFTC

18-Jul-15
I found this a most frustrating cache to access, it's taken me four visits over four years to get inside the gates. This was a great earth cache where I learnt heaps.

Many thanks Geology Boy.

Sent answers to the given e-mail, thank you

Was visiting Perth for an event and wandering around alot. I sat on the bench here and rested for a bit drinking some water while I did the earth cache. Great rock specimens, I really enjoyed my time here.

A favourite for me, TFTC Geology Boy! Big Grin

My last cache for the day on my walking tour of the city. Fascinating to see the gold just sitting there.

Many thanks

05-May-15
Thought I would have a quick look at this as I had to go to the state library today, and saw it was close while looking for caches eating my lunch amongst some screaming children. I stopped by, admired the beauty, took a couple of photo's and had to run to catch my train!

Geology boy, a great idea for a cache and to teach people in the middle of a city! So many people wouldnt even know they are there, but at least you are giving geocachers the chance to look and test me on some of my rusty geology!!

Thanks!

Visited the rocks together with Apfelsine during our Holidays in Australia while exploring Perth. The gate was closed the evening before, but luckily openend during daytime. Had a closer look to answer the questions and relaxed on the bench nearby Smile
Thanks for this earthcache!

I sent my answers to CO a week ago but didn't get any reply so far, hence I'm logging this cache as found and hoping that my answers were correct Smile

The gate was open so had no problems with accessing the rocks. There is a bench nearby so it may be a good idea to sit down for a while and think about the questions. Thank you for showing me this place, I probably wouldn't know it existed if not this Earth Cache.

If my answers were wrong, please let me know and I'll edit them/edit this log entry Smile

Did this when I was there on business, it was fun to check it out. Thanks for it! Smile

02-Feb-15
This is our first did not find earthcache, we could not get inside the large fence to see the rocks and there information boards, everything was closed and behind bares.

01-Feb-15
I've wanted to find this earth cache for a long time, and I've visited this location previously but the rocks were unavailable. Alas, we came past again today and they were behind a construction fence once again. However, I took some photos and did a bit of research and came up with some good answers that the CO agreed with, and also taught me some more.

Thanks for the interesting earth cache Geology Boy!

It's not everyday you are walking around the city/Northbridge and you see native gold outcropping in a garden. GeologyBoy - your EarthCaches are A1 and this one combines gold and orbicular granite. A win-win. Free entry into the museum and lots of activity in the street with the Fringe Festival. Stopped for a beer at the Mechanics Institute with a great burger. TFTEC [(:]

You gotta love earth caches, and this is no exception! Interesting bit of learning and nice spot to relax in the big smoke!
Went and did this cache back in October, but as I wasn't sure about the accuracy of my answers I held back and only submitted them a week or so back. Was hoping for an answer to some questions, but will log as a find now anyway Smile
Thanks Geology Boy for another great Cache (Earthcaches are my favourite!)

Interesting collect of rocks which all seem to be be good specimens. Arrived just on opening time with no muggles around. Our favourite sample is the Orbicular Granodiorite. TFTEC

Have visited this twice now, had to show the kids as again the earth cache is so cool, they were all fascinated, answers emailed. Amazing that something that is essentially a kids play thing actually has such value, really appreciate the formation of the cache at this site. Super cool

This is nice, I have seen that Orb granite before too. Finland supposed to have about half of world´s places with Orbs, due to amount of granite and also grounding work done in searching. You might want to check GC28KVQ

Cool stone examples, I liked that one with gold Smile We have that a lot in Lapland but they just usually don´t contain any yellow when you pick them up along hiking paths. Easily collected required data, would have been a challenge if they were placed randomly in the area...

Thanks for the interesting earthcache and greetings from Finland!

06-Nov-14
Found these rocks on a trip to the State Library and museum. Thanks Geology Boy for making me really look at these rocks and learn about how they were formed. Otherwise I would have walked by them. The nearby asteroids are really impressive too.

04-Nov-14
Been meaning to do this one for ages. Had a few spare hours this afternoon, and being Melbourne Cup day the city was nice and quiet. Wandered in the front entrance and out the back and found what I needed. Took a heap of pics and gained the necessary info.

Logging now, and will send thru the answers later tonight. TFTC.

Thank you for taking me to this part of the museum GeologyBoy, the rocks are easy to miss (except when a large dinosaur has been set up next to them!). Hope the answers are in the range of what you are expecting... Thank you for the cache!

12-Oct-14
We have passed these rocks many times over the years with our kids, without our kids, with other kids .... with school groups .... also taken photos. The experience of doing this cache made the way we looked at the rocks quite different, somehow more meaningful. There have been many changes in this part of the museum, even an excavation going on (very exciting!) Some of the rocks have been moved since we were last here, and we actually headed for the wrong spot, then followed the gps (phew!) .... It was great to see these rocks together and have the opportunity to compare them .... Our answers have been submitted and we are logging this cache for International Earthcache Day ... (Hope ok .... keeping fingers crossed for we are not too sure about the answers, also we took a while to gather the info .... Actually two visits for we came a few weeks ago but had to leave it with one question to go [xx(] as the museum was closing and the gate had to be locked. Good to be back again today.) TFTC Geology Boy Smile

Hi we did your earth cache today. It was our first ever. We are not totally sure of our answers but we did our best. I was quite surprised that the kids enjoyed helping answer the questions and learning about the rocks that we had seen so many times.

Went in to the city yesterday with GeoSOn Claxxon_Cassidy to do this Earth Cache and Minted History as two of our 7 Souveneirs of August. Grabbed a traditional while at it too!!! HAve sent through all our answers and are waiting to hear back from GeologyBoy to confirm. Hopefully we are all good Smile

Thanks for bringing us here, it was awesome to sit on said rocks and watch the huge dinosaur 'breathe' and watch the excited kids running around too.

Thanks again and we wait to hear if our answers are correct.

Cheers

Had to make an unscheduled stop at the office and figured I'd 'treat' myself to a little geocaching on the way home.

Another great earth cache and lesson! (Particularly enjoyed the Orbs)

TFTC

P.S. For a change I wasn't put off by all the muggles.... This is a museum after all and you're expected to study the exhibitions! Great choice of venue!!!

Muggles everywhere. Had to come back 3 times. Emailed answers. Best guess based on my limited geology.

This was another find in Western Australia while crossing Northern Territory and Western Australia from Darwin to Perth on Gibb River Road through the Kimberlys. During this 8500km journey we've met many nice and friendly people [^], visited countless marvelous places, saw lots of interesting local wildlife (and plants), took some 2500 pictures home and logged some 300 Caches Cool.

This interesting place we've visited while exploring Perth and learned a lot about different rocks which (with the exception of #1) we have seeen many times before Cool. Nice spot, especially the little one besides the rocks Wink [^]. The answers were sent to the owner Cool.

Thanks for the E-Cache, we've enjoyed it very much [^].

Great learning experience but insistent dinosaur bellowing was quit annoying

25-Jul-14
We took the grandchildren to the Museum and gathered the required information whilst there. The kids loved the rocks and asked plenty of questions. Thanks GeologyBoy.

10-Jul-14
Its school holidays and we are babysitting our 4 year old grandson, so took him to the museum. First stop was these rocks. He was very interested and when we tried to tell him about them we had all these other little boys explaining too. There are a lot of smart little kids out there. Thanks for the cache. we enjoyed it.

was up in perth to attend the flash mob so we grabbed a few caches on the way. This was a joint effort with KrabiBoy, Helbren and wellsy. We will email you the answers for all of us. After another trip on the free bus we got here and soon found the required rocks, complete with a moving dinosaur to watch us. We found the required information just before a heavy shower of rain came over.

Having worked out the buses, we stopped here on our way back from King's Park to tackle this interesting Earthcache. Also good to see the nearby dinosaur move. Nice set of rocks - surprised there is no info board.

18-Mar-14
This is an educational EarthCache because as said one could compare iconic rock types that can be found in various places throughout Western Australia. TFTEC.

16-Feb-14
Foolishly, I tried this earlier on today and found it ridiculously hard to find a park. Something I learnt is par for the course in the Perth CBD... Wink Later tonight though, I snuck back and made use of a building car park for a few minutes, while I darted into GZ. Hmm, hang on, the cache is over the other side of that barrier... Can I get in...[?] I strolled up to the entrance, explained that I needed to visit "some rocks" and was allowed to continue my mission unopposed... That was easy... Big Grin

Once inside, I found myself in very close company to music loving muggles, but set about the task and got what info I could. All done, I chuffed off and left the revelers to it... Glad I didn't have to leave this behind, I don't get to the west often... [^]

Cheers Geology Boy.

Wandered by around Christmas time but the area was closed off for a function. Had the opportunity to drop by again about a weeks ago and collected the required information. TFTC Geology Boy

Email sent with all our answers. Found with dimor on our way to the big 11-12-13 event. I've been to the museum several times but never to these rocks. Thanks for an interesting lesson. The replica dino footprints were great. I'll bring kids for a visit next time we're up.

11-Dec-13
Since Rach2 and I had some time before the 11-12-13 Event in South Perth we thought we'd grab some caches and this was one of them Smile

I go to the Battye Library a few times a year to do some family tree research but hadn't been to the museum to see these rocks and they are right next to each other.

The things you learn while geocaching Smile on a very hot day Sad. I even remembered to bring a measuring device.

Thanks for the Earthcache Geology Boy Big Grin.

As it was a team effort Rach2 sent you the answers from both of us.

I went to find the rocks and I ended up visiting also Museum. TFTC nice one!

In the area to see some artwork by Vincent and Salvador and Pablo. Not sure if I can call a square piece with a bitemark in it art. And a large canvas with a few spots is hardly inspirational. But for the most part the paintings were fantastic and it was worth the trip in.
This earthcache is in a pleasant spot for some lunch and we sat and observed the rocks and contemplated the answers as well as some of the deep mysteries of the universe. Thanks for setting this one up Geology Boy. Hope we got the answers right. Or atleast a 75% passmark.

28-Nov-13
I walked over to GZ during my lunchbreak to check out the rocks. I had no idea they would be so big or so interesting. The orbicular granodiorite and the gold in the granite were definitely the highlights for me. TFTEC GeologyBoy

17-Nov-13
Had a day in the city for Open House Perth Day and thought it was a good opportunity to grab another cache while we were here. While the geowife rested in the shade I gathered the information required to complete the clues. We have been to the museum a couple of times recently but not taken the time to come over to these rocks. Thanks for pointing them out
