We did not have time to check on this cache after the fire. We will relist the cache after maintenance.
Area is very very burnt out. Unsure if we found the cache or not. Maybe CO should check it is here still.
We looked long and hard hoping the cache survived the fire, but we think it didn't. I think cache owner needs to confirm if this one is still here and replace it if not. Thanks.
After I found this plain location I felt so depressed that I almost set my car on fire. Don't drive here if you value your bodywork.
9:38:00 AM. Camped at Cape Le Grand beach and running out of caches to do. Needed one for today and this was closest. After reading the logs and seeing our friends Jason & Jannine hadn't found it we weren't sure what to do. Well we parked on the road and set off in the track. At least it was exercise and sheltered from the wind. Made GZ and let the GPS settle while I had a drink and started to look. There it was in the 3rd spot I looked. Was glad to sign the log and walk back to the car. There was a big snake skin in the wreck but we didn't see a snake. Thanks bushmechanics for placing this cache.
Track very overgrown so decided to walk. After a few ant....ics found the cache TFTC
Nope ... no luck here . Really not a nice place to be looking for a cache ... in an overturned, smelly, 1982? Sigma wagon with broken glass & redbacks everywhere . We had a really good look over it though, seeing as we'd put a sh#*load more scratches on the car to get here. Not that that really bothers us .. just would have been nice to claim a smiley for the trouble [:(!]. Certainly won't be back for another look!
Yes. Another FTF for me. Went and looked for this one about 3 weeks ago and had no luck went back today and had the cache in my hand In 30 seconds. TFTC and the hunt. The Snake has left home
Went to find this cache with Crasha10 but after about 20 minutes the only luck we had was to find the snake that pollythecolie found and the Red backs and a lot of broken glass. We will return at a later date for another try because I have to leave Esperance tomorrow. TFTC and TFTH.
Went out looking for this one yesterday and what a adventure. Took the first very scratchy track in that led to the cache. Found the old car on the side pretty easily but no cache could be seen by us...must be a great camo. Geo-hubby lifted up part of the upholstery and found a snake.
Tried to exit via the other roads that looked more major on our maps. Only to sink to the bottom on the fist intersection/water crossing. Ah so that is why it's recommended to come in from the other side. What looked like innocent sand was just a thin top layer concealing sticky fine grey clay. This took awhile of digging and winching but no luck. Many locals in town we talked to thought we were crazy going out there at this time of year. Yes we were, things you do on a FTF hunt.. So I wouldn't recommend going that way in the wet and by the look of the gaping holes in the track we were not the first to be stuck. These are the things in life you learn from, and from this we know how far our car can and can't go. How well the winch worked, which didn't skip a beat, trying to drag us through rather up and over the bog. A shopping list from ARB for our next trip (kangaroo jack, possibly a rear winch). But after all this we meet a truly wonderful kind farmer named Hans.
I'm not sure what this cache is trying to show us, when Esperance has such a amazing natural landscape. I find the best caches are one or more of the following innovative, show a amazing known or unknown location, unique camouflage, clever engineering and share a history or story I'm not sure which of these this cache is. With so many other caches for us to find in Esperance I don't think this will be worth scratching our car for again. This certainly turned out to be a adventure.
