Darwin to Adelaide Road Trip
Day Four: Mataranka to Threeways
Weather: perfect.
Once again, I’m on the wrong side of the water, had there actually been any. If it had still been operational, I wouldn’t have had to move the car. Nice snug hide here, thanks Lumpyjrb.
It’s officially a mega - GCA1DNA “The Great Leap Forward”

Our Northern Territory journey began in Darwin around 3am after a very delayed flight. We drove as far north as Fresh Water Camp (northeast of Darwin), followed by a loop to Liberated Cox (out to the west) and Litchfield National Park returning to Darwin. We then headed south with overnight stops at Katherine, Daly Waters and Devils Marbles before reaching our southernmost accommodation at Erldunda. From here we did a day trip to Lamberts Gravitational Centre on onward past Finke. Our last couple of days were in Alice Springs with a side trip via Hermannsburg and Glen Helen, all up covering just under 3800km. My thanks to all the COs with hides throughout the territory for helping make our trip so enjoyable.

After finding the GCA caches on the way into 'town' we discovered this interesting bit of history and made a quick find.
This trip was sort of in place of a trip to a Mega that got canceled due to accommodation problems, I was quite happy when Goose said do you fancy to caching break in the Northern Territory as this would be the last State or Territory for me in Australia.
Our plan was to fly into Darwin on the Friday night have a couple days in the area then start heading South stopping overnight whenever we needed to, our next goal was the drive to the geographic centre of Australia at Lambert Centre and then head back to Alice to fly home ten days later.
We both had a great trip finding some important old caches, large ones and the odd clever one too, we found Ammo Cans all over the place which was nice as i think we have found most of the ones at home in Tassie.
Thanks for the cache.

Arrived at the Pub in the freezing cold and rain. It was 32 degrees yesterday. Who would have thought it? After we settled in I waited for a break in the rain and wandered over for a quick find. Tftc!
We stayed at Dunmarra overnight and drove into Daly Waters this morning. Checked out the Stuart Tree and the flying fox. Interesting history around here. Left a TB.
Necessity is the mother of invention, or on this case innovation.
Thanks for the cache Lumpyjrb.
Thanks for the cache Lumpyjrb.
We were in the area and decided to check out the flying fox. Pity it's not usable otherwise I would have had a go.
Nice easy find. TFTC

On the road again, and on our way to Daly Waters Pub for the night and then onward further south into the colder climates
Arrived safe and well, setup camp and then went for a walk and found the John McDouall Stuart Heritage Trail which eventually led us right to the cache. We then continued on to look for the cemetery. Nice hide.
**Thanks for placing this cache Lumpyjrb**

After a short Visit to this historic town the Cache brought us to this peace of history thanks making us aware of this place.
Went first to the wrong side but could see a sign on the other side and decided there must be a path there and walked around, finding the cache quickly and signed the log.
Was not able to see the basket
TFTC.

We are spending the night in Daly waters, and after setting up camp came to explore the area. It was one of the warmest days we have had over this last month, but the Heritage Trail was definitely an interesting walk.
If only the flying fox was still working, it would have been a lot of fun to ride upon.
The creek is dry at the moment, and we were content to find a cache, instead of riding the flying fox.
Thanks lumpyjrb. FP added.

On my way to Perth via Darwin with a few detours for shires. TFTC.
A very interesting little town. Great cache spot, too.

I made this one much harder than it had to be by being on the wrong side of the creek. I bush bashed through and soon had the log signed
A nice easy find after a short walk from the caravan park/Daly Waters Pub. Interesting place. TFTC
Catching up on some late logs, now that I have time, while travelling.
We are on the road travelling up through central Australian and down the coast of WA. I hope to grab a few caches along the way.
Found this on the way into Daly Waters. So much interesting history around this area.
Thanks Lumpyjrb for placing this cache and doing the maintenance, so we can enjoy finding it.

Found at 7:10:00 AM(t) GAFF1.
After staying at a bush camp just down the road, we set off early as we had a huge trip to get to Nhulunbuy by Monday. However we just had to stop at this cache to see what Bill Pearce had constructed which we had in our minds something huge - like a 100 metre span! When we got there we thought - what! Is that it? The floods must have been massive and constant to need this flying fox.
Cache found in a very logical spot and well hidden nearly in plain site
Thanks Lumpyjrb.
