With the Andrew Daniel Coy series having met its demise yesterday, buhfuhguh and I hightailed it to the Emerald area to claim our finds on these puzzles that have had our collective blood, sweat, and tears poured into them before their corresponding containers get removed.Targeting pretty much exclusively ADCs, we walked away with three finds from the six we attempted in a pleasant, if slightly impromptu, afternoon outing. The last attempt for the day took us to a random little spot I had no idea about. Two other people seemed to know, however, and even though they were probably far away enough, we didn't want to disturb them and tried to make this search a quick one.An obvious structure revealed itself, as well as some likely alternatives nearby, although our brief scrutiny of them all failed to reveal anything.Might still be there after a year's unlove, but we were hungry so we didn't really care about sticking around anywhere there wasn't dinner. Thanks anyway, day1976

Without the support of the local reviewer or Geocaching HQ, I feel there is no point in owning hides anymore. I therefore am slowly archiving all my hides. Time for this one to go. Its been fun reading the logs.

Did not find! Ok, so when I first started caching, these ADC puzzle caches, the closest to home, did my head in! So I put them way on the back burner and have only recently looked at them again. With some newly developed puzzle solving skills, mostly thanks to Covid, I have managed to at least solve this ADC cache. Ive been past GZ twice now and today with a second pair of eyes with no luck. Im not sure what the dog walkers thought about us rummaging around in the bushes. Anyway we didnt find it today. Ive noticed the CO has been archiving a few of his caches around here recently which is a shame. It would be a pity for this one to be archived too. I would be happy to replace the cache if need be and keep and an eye on it. But I might just be not seeing it! Anyway, thanks for the cache and the mind bending puzzles.

Sir_spectre and I managed to get away for a 2 week Christmas break and of course hunt lots of smilies. We were targetting LGA's, old caches, caches with lots of favourite points and the Ballarat Geotour.
Thanks to all who placed caches for us to find

04-Jan-23
Stopped here to get more caches in a new LGA. quick find.
Left with Mogni the day before Christmas to go down to Mount Gambier for Christmas Day. Then on the 27th left for Victoria. Plan A was to go to the Ottway Rangers, complete the Geo tour in Ballarat and then head to Geelong and take the Queenscliff ferry over to Sorrento then grabbing new LGA's on route to almost the New South Wales/Victoria border and the old 2001 cache near there. Also attending a community day event, a CITO and a couple of other events as well. Then head in to the high country and come back to SA in 11 days. Things didn't go to plan. Turns out that one of my almost new tyres was defective ( side wall blown out ) and blew in the ottway ranges on a narrow road in the rainforest, Drove to Melton to stay overnight and get a new tyre there, tyre machine broken and the other 5 tyre companies not open so off to geelong for a new tyre ( and some caches on the way and in geelong ) . The event we where going to attend in geelong didn't turn out, he was late by ALOT to his own event. Then to ballarat to same day since we had a b&b booked for the next few nights. Planned on getting the ferry at 1200 and ended up on the 400 pm ferry but we did attend a event and CITO in geelong. Then we drive into the rear end of a thunder storm with forecast 20 mm dropping for the next few days. Cancel the high country and change targets to letterbox D/T for fizzy grid only using letterboxes and same wirh the multi fizzy grid plus fizzy grid only using victorian caches plus any challenge caches we where near. Plus getting a few more victorian 2001 caches. And finally any caches that had 40 more more favourite points. Only got soaked to the bone for a couple of days but the water on the tracks was noticeable. On the return home tried to get the rest of the missing LGA's around the Melbourne CBD i missed in the last mega. Still a fun trip was had if not the planned one.

Finally solved the puzzle yay

08-Oct-22
After a few weeks of trying to solve this puzzle we finally solved it! Straight out to find it!
Thanks for the cache! We took the trackable!
Found with jackst2000

WOW! The cache was easier to find than the puzzle was to complete
This one was a bit of a roller coaster, just when you think you get it, the checker shoots you down...
I'm fairly new to these puzzle caches and i have learned so much from this one. the main takeaway is to not discount anything
Left a TB for the next finder
TFTC! not to tackle the others...

Sadly our short road trip holiday is nearly over and we are almost home. We took advantage of the generous parking here to collect this solved and very cleverly devised brain teaser of a puzzle cache. Such a mixture of frustration and addictiveness to finally get the result.

Thanks, we enjoyed finding your cache.

12-Aug-22
A great puzzle and my introduction to the deviousness of this great series.
And a really beaut way to teach people how to tackle a mystery cache.
Thanks for this one and for locus cache’s assistance in locating it.

We decided we would like to go to a Christmas Tree farm to get our Christmas tree this year so chose a farm and then looked at what caches were nearby …..as one does
The puzzle icon was quite close to the Seville Tree Farm so we set to solving, of course encountering not just a decoy but every decoy along the way! We stalled and so during the Puzzle Zoom session on Wednesday we asked for a nudge which was duly given and we a lot lol
Next morning after choosing the tree, we set off to this cache which was a nice easy find at GZ.
TFTC - this is the first of the series we have done and we look forward to solving more …… wellllllll.….maybe…. - GJMMelb

Vinz is clever, Vinz is smart, not only does he hold the many keys, his brain is adaptable to the solving of puzzles.
Well maybe not, maybe his brain is just an empty vessel capable of excellent storage, without the confusion requirements of calculation and observation.
I shall not indulge the secrets of this artifact, needless to say that the owner is somewhat infamous for such distractions and that in Vinz's former incarnation, he may have been here before....

We had been asked to look after the grandies as their mum is wanting a break. She is pregnant and overdue by more than a week and believes she might be going into labour. (As it turned out, she had it very early in two days time).
Having this sprung on us, we had nothing planned for entertainment so what better excuse do you need to grab some caches. The five year old loves it. He has been out with us a few times and did quite a bit of Winton Wetlands with us. He wanted to do more (which we did). The three year old doesn't mind but isn't as keen.
Thanks for the cache.

28-Dec-20
On our way back home after picking up the Grandies. What better to fill in time with but caching. The five year old was excited but the three year old, well . . . . The cache was found quite quickly but we definitely can't say the same for finding the coords. Thanks for the puzzle, that we eventually worked out and for the cache.

12-Nov-20
Covid was a bit of a slow time for geocaching but a great time for putting some extra time into puzzles that we had previously given up on. This was another one we had looked at previously and put back down several times but looking at it with different eyes, Joleen had a thought which after a little bit of playing around started to bring out likely co-ords and we were very happy when it continued through to the end.

As we had said with the Covid restrictions having been lifted we were in the area collecting labs and this one was a must do while we were here. We had no idea that gz existed even though we have driven passed many times before. Even with the lush spring growth the cache turned into a nice easy find right where the GPSr was pointing and the log book now contains our name.

Thanks again day1976 for the cache.

02-Nov-20
With the lifting of restrictions, I am enabling some of my caches.

12-Sep-20
I need to write a note on this one to say thank you to the CO for this FANTASTIC puzzle. It isn't solved YET but I will get there, even tho I am in Northern NSW. I LOVE trying to work on great puzzles. Stay Safe

07-Aug-20
Given the current State of Disaster declared in Victoria and the strict laws regarding movement around the state, I am disabling all of my caches within Victoria until restrictions are lifted.

26-Jun-20
Argh this is getting hard, hopefully the CO can help ive been trying for weeks to find all the cords

30-May-20
On a short motorcycle ride in the sunshine, before the weather turns crappy, I picked up this cache. It's been on my "solved" list for a while, so pleased to have signed the log.
Thanks Day.

13-May-20
As restrictions are beginning to ease, I am enabling some of my geocaches that aren't regularly found. I will monitor advice from government officials, geocaching HQ and the local reviewers with regards to enabling more or re-disabling these.

27-Mar-20
This cache will be disabled until the COVID-19 crisis is over. Please refrain from finding this geocache.

I was out caching with the CO day1976 and he suddenly said 'I have a puzzle cache in here' and pulled over. So we went in and I searched around for it but he found it first. Luckily I didn't have to solve the puzzle, I am not good at them! There was a bag of dog poo right next to the cache container unfortunately.

29-Sep-18
Finally, one of day1976’s puzzles solved. When that checker gave me the green light, I nearly fell off my chair. I did it . This CO’s caches have given me many hours of grief and I was so happy that our names are now in his log.

If I ever meet you day1976, I’m not sure whether to shake your hand or wring your neck Smile

As I can’t award a favourite for myself, I’ll pass this one on for you. Thank you day1976 for a great experience and the fantastic work you obviously put into all your caches.

This puzzle should have been a lot simpler than others in the series, but there are certainly a number of red herrings that want to catch your eye. However after a few different attempts, 1 seemed to be working and then the green tick appeared.

Today while driving past I remembered this cache was along here somewhere, but it was not in my offline saved list. Signing online, I quickly download it and parked close to the gz. I was then able to quickly find the container before some more rain hit.

Thanks for the cache Day 1976

Managed to solve this one easily enough ages ago. Today I was in the area and pulled in for a quick find.

21-Oct-17
This is a puzzle that has been sitting in the solved pile for a couple of years, but we never seemed to head out this way. Well today was the day and we pulled up to a nice location that we initially didn't realise was here. A loop back and there it was. All quiet today and a nicely tucked away hide. A handy spot to stop for an early lunch too.
Thanks to day1976 for the cache.

21-Oct-17
Out this way with Square_Pegs looking for solved puzzle caches so we stopped off here to find this one in a surprisingly good spot.

Thanks day1976

Thank you for the suggestions, I need all the help I can get with puzzle caches! However I have managed to solve most of the Andrew Daniel Coy Puzzles, so I set out to grab some today. My day was ever so delayed due to a late night solving last night, followed by getting stuck behind a horse float. Doing 40. In an 80km zone. Not managing to keep on their side of the road even at 40. It was a worry. A large convoy grew behind the vehicle, but nobody was game enough to overtake, since it spent half its time on the other side of the road. Anyhow, I solved the issue by... waiting for it to turn off (bit simpler than a puzzle solution, and probably less time consuming). Off I zoomed past a really cute roadhouse to find a park. A park I had not stopped at before. A park I probably wouldnt have ever stopped at if not for geocaching Smile I made a quick find, signed the log and replaced the cache as found. TFTC day1976

We found this cache today at 2:40pm as number 17 of 18 on our Picking Berries and More - April Afternoon. After having the co-ords for this cache for a good amount of time, we were finally able to swing our homeward bound route into the mix to pick it up. Thanks from D and HA B-A.

Having been kinda sorta in the general vicinity of GZ two days in a row it seemed ludicrous to not drop by at some point. So I did. It's been a while since I looked at it, and I remember even less about the puzzle than might be expected even allowing for that. 'Lots of red herrings' say other logs. That's vaguely concordant with what memory I do have. GZ was in a frightfully civilised location. The cache revealed itself swiftly in a not-terribly-surprising fashion, and I was shortly on my way. Thanks day1976!

28-Aug-16
found it! now the little ? fOr this cache sits very to our country retreat (otherwise known as Mark's house) so we had to solve it and Go get it in orDer to clear the way for some potential hides in the future. first off mark hAd a quick look and soon had a bit of a solution Yippy..Wrong!
so he had another look and found the Hidden way forwArd...wrong!
nexT armed with some Advice from anotheR puzzler he spotted the cluE and bingo...wrong!
then he gave it to kellY who teamed up with morcs4, omegaman1971 and (._o) and together they got it solved Over cheese and bickies.
tUrns out it is very close to home so today on the way home from work we bOth visited the gz aNd kelly made the find without much drama.
what can we say abouT this series Of mystery caches, They are wickedly evil in tHeir design. the team that tackled thIs had planNed to Knock over the whole series on the night They solved tHis and only managed to gEt this one. so very clever that even whilSt we log this wE are seeing things in how this series can lead one Up the garden Path...TFTC...

Road Trip? Hell Yeah, especially to a beautiful area such as Beechworth. Headed out with day1976 and GeoJosiah on a bit of a boys weekend, camping overnight. It was a beautiful day and we hit the road early, finding a few caches along the way.

I had with much difficulty solved this one a while back and was glad to be passing by today. A quick stopoff and Jo soon had the cache in his small hands. Log signed and off we went again.Cool

**Thanks to day1976 for the cache. TNLN**

I had spent some time over the last week or so trying to work through the Andrew Daniel Coy series as I knew we were planning a trip to Victoria this weekend. I got some help for a couple of them and had already solved a couple previously, and by the time we got on the plane we had six lined up to target today.
An interesting mix of red herrings, more red herrings, red herrings that were not red herrings next time, or was that last time?

In this case I tried quite a few things. I have been a fan of caches that help you learn how to solve puzzles but this approach was different. It was more about how to find red herrings. And then when the answer finally appears you alternate between muttering under your breath and berating yourself for not spotting that earlier!

This was the fourth one to try to find today.
Janet and I approached GZ from different circular paths. I was checking out a number of pontential spots and had yet to see her appear. And then I heard (yet again) her voice calling out "Can I borrow your pen?"
"Oh. Because you want to sign the log?"
"Yep"
All good.
that's the 4th one sorted.

How to solve a puzzle?
Open up Geocaching.com
Do a search
Find a puzzle cache
Refine your search to all puzzles except from user name DAY1976

Ohh sorry i thought this was how to stay sane doing puzzles......lol

I must admit i have learnt alot of recent weeks about solving puzzles and methods and more things to look for and reality is that Day's puzzles are exceptionally good for learning how to do puzzles.
This was a great puzzle with many turns and many false starts but all in all was a great puzzle!
The final location was a little tricky and although there is some extra camo at the GZ it is still there....
Thanks for the series Day....Have had a ball and now to get on with some easier puzzles and hikes lol

Sooo many herrings!
Thanks for the solving puzzle education, day1976. Cool
After walking around and around gz, the GPSr finally settled and we had the cache in hand.
Apart from the C.F. one, this was the last ADC to be picked up.
Thanks for some awesome puzzles day1976! Keep up the good work. Big Grin

Today we were out for a drive circuling the Dandenongs to pick up a number of mystery caches. All up 8 were found of varying difficulty and terrain. Good to have them ticked off. Now its time to get back to solving some more!

Back to the scene of mahem 5 months ago. I walked in a different way and found the container without incident. Whew Cool Thanks Day for the fun puzzle. Another ADC ticked off, but the harder ones still need to be solved.

Logging this 12 months after having signed.

I did an Emerald trip here 12 months ago picking up puzzles. I happened to have the coords for this puzzle so signed the cache, but refused to log as hadn't worked the puzzle and wanted the full satisfaction of knowing every aspect.

A year later I finally got the solve on the easiest of these so far, and can now rightfully log!

Cheers and thanks for another great one in the series!

We picked this one up in the company of Glanville Girls, McLookers and ST37E on a massive 2 day caching trip.
While out collecting the whole pre solved series (not solved by ourselves)
After hearing about all the work that went into solving this series it made us really appreciate them so much more.
Thanks to day1976 for the mystery.

Found in the company of Glanville Girls, McLookers & The Tritonz during day 2 of a massive weekend of caching, the solving of this one was a group effort, and it was definitely an effort, each of the puzzles in the series were quite varied and well put together, thanks for the brain workouts

The Tritonz and myself not overlooked the hiding place in this one but luckily for us Glanville Girls had a decent look and extracted the well hidden container

TFTC

A definite favorite from me

My interest was first piqued in the ADC puzzles about 6 months ago. As, at the time, I needed several of the D/T combinations to fill holes in my matrix ( I since filled those gaps). They are to date, my favourite set of puzzles. They were frustrating at times but ultimately solvable. Some were quicker solves than others. And decoys?? Oh My! Don't get me started. This one was another needle in a haystack to solve. Geesh! But I got there as it was of a similar style or maybe that's just how my cluttered brain works, like the CO's!

We were in the area of GZ today on an epic 2 day adventure with McLookers, ST37E and The Tritonz. We started in Kilcunda, made our way to the Dandenong Ranges, headed back through the city and on to Ballarat. At GZ, ST37E and The Tritonz both searched, couldn't find it and discounted the area. We widened our search. Nothing. I went back to the initial search area and had a 'girl' look and what do you know there it was! Thanks for the hide Day 1976. Another favourite added (this series is really chewing them up, but they are well worth it!)

Glanville Girls gets all of the credit for the solve. The hunt for the cache took a little longest than it should have however it was eventually found. Thanks day1976, these were very, very curly puzzles.

Caching today with Glanville Girls, ST37E and The Tritonz chasing 7 different cache sizes and some tricky D/T caches.

This week I solved three Andrew Daniel Coy puzzles. A couple more would have been nice but with the sun out on this perfect Sunday there was no time like the present to go and collect what I had. The plan was to collect the three ADCs and on the way back home pick up a few more caches until we got bored. Unfortunately it went from good (Family Photos) to bad (the original ADC) to ugly (How To Solve A Puzzle Cache).

This puzzle took a few goes before the customary ahhh! moment arrived and the geochecker confirmed success.

We parked in front of GZ and this should have been a quick park and grab. Dee sat in the car while I walked over to what looked like a typical hiding place. hmmm not there. Check the GPS - ahh ok a few more metres to another stump. Two steps later....

...why is the air all fuzzy and moving?

UH OH!!

I was besieged by a SWARM OF WASPS!!!

SurprisedSurprisedSurprised

Running like I stole something I made a bee-line (so to speak) out in to the open, looking a little bit stupid trying to whack away all the insects hunting for a piece of bare skin. After 50 metres or so I had gotten rid of enough of them to figure out where I was and start heading back to the car. By this time Dee had come out to find why I was doing a silly clown dance and not signing the log! [:o)]

The stings then begun to set in - a few on the left leg, a few on the right, and one or two right on top of my noggin [B)]

It was time to head home, licking my wounds. No more caches today. It just wasn't fun any more SadSadSad

The only good thing to come out of this adventure is I finally found out that I am not allergic to the stings. It only took three-and-a-half decades to find out! This was my first bee or wasp sting.

So we will be giving this cache a wide berth for the rest of summer. It gives me a chance to solve a few more ADC caches, maybe Decrypting as well, before another attempt.

Thanks day1976. You can't win 'em all!

27-Jul-14
A plan was hatched to go and pick up a couple of high terrain caches and also solved puzzles this afternoon so my buddy TurnerFamilyFTG had already picked up my extendable 5m+ ladder the day before and taken it away on his roof rack so we were ready to go. We met in Ferntree Gully, left one car behind and headed into the hills with a fair bit of driving in between the caches we wanted to grab in the few hours we had. We had a great afternoon in surprisingly good weather with no DNF's on the few we attempted.
Most of the time spent on these puzzles was I admit done by my buddy who has sort of got on the same wavelength as the CO. (That's a bit scary!)
This was probably the easiest to get to cache of the afternoon. After parking very close by we headed to GZ and made a nice quick find, signed the log and headed on our way to the hardest cache for the day. It was very easy to spot at GZ so we hid it a bit better than when we found it but still easy to find.
Thanks day1976 for the cache, the hunt and the fun.

Looked at this a little while back and was suprised that I worked it out quite quickly. Today Spiffy- and I made the way out to the GZ and found the cache in good condition. Thanks Day for the cache and the puzzle.

12-May-14
Another cold Monday night see's Rebel Acts and I on the trail looking for plastic. A small haul was made due to the number of multi's , muggles and tricky hides. Solved absolutely ages ago but finally got out here to collect it. Thanks

12-May-14
Another Monday and what a cold one it was, we clocked up a few KM's tonight finishing some Mulits and a couple of puzzles that have been in the solved pile for some time. Thanks day1976 for the cache.

Number two Andrew Daniel Decoy cache finally found today. This was another puzzle that had the brain straining and with a few ADC puzzles on the go at the same time I was beginning to lose sight of which puzzles I had tried which things to try and solve.

With the final safely in the database I headed out with one of my boys to find four of the day1976 puzzles. GZ was nice and quiet and together we searched for the cache. We checked here and there but it wasn't until rechecking one spot a bit more thoroughly, we finally located the cache.

With the log signed and cache rehidden, we had a drink and bite to eat before we were back on the road to the next one. Thanks day1976.

Started working on this one from day 1 (no pun intended)
Fiddled and poked it extracting numerous bits and pieces along the way.
Put it down, picked it up, threw it down, picked it up again....finally, a green light, yay!
OMG...it's a long way from home.
Just right for a Sunday drive, it's a nice day and I can get a few others while I'm out there.
Arrival, GZ, no problem, I have the place all to myself.
Hide found, log signed, cache rehidden and I was on my way to the next little braintwister.
TFTC (I think...)

[navy]My Day of Days![/navy]
I have felt my brain wither through this year and I lost my puzzle solving mojo. "What is wrong?", I would wonder. "Is it just life's pressures making me unable to focus on a healthy recreation or am I declining cognitively?"

A summer holiday is the time to put the brain to the test, properly, with less distractions! Look out you demons! TwistedTwistedTwistedTwistedTwistedTwisted
[br]
I solved about six puzzles. I confess to the odd hint and encouragement from previous finders and cache owners but hey, who doesn't?
[br]
Today was collection day for five of day1976's puzzles. After surprising both the CO and myself with a quick solve on the first of this series, I have been disappointed by my lack of progress since then.
[br]
The puzzle behind this cache bugged me until the geochecker gave me an unexpected green light. On this hot afternoon it was disappointing after a long drive to find another car at GZ, and very close to the coordinates, an unsavoury looking shirtless muggle on a picnic blanket with his lady friend. After I crashed about looking for where the cache could possibly be hidden the shirtless one got up and asked me if I was alright. I mumbled something very feeble about adventuring then moved away and played with my phone in effort to get a better idea of where the cache was hidden. The phone was not cooperating when I had the sudden joy of seeing the muggle and his squeeze head for their car.
[br]
Uninhibited searching soon had the cache in hand and I was stunned to see only one other name in the logbook. Thank you day1976 for a good old brain workout and a good excursion on a hot day.

Some may think that there is a reasonable distance to go to get a cache. Others know that this is not the case. With a day off and and the solution to an unfound puzzle cache in my GPS, a 40 min drive seemed reasonable.
I'm not usually a fan of red herring type caches but I always give them a quick look. I ignored the obvious solutions on this one and managed to spot the correct method fairly quickly.
Thanks day1976 for the cache. I haven't had much luck yet with the rest of the series.
