How interesting that there was a rabbit proof fence here. We could do with a few more of those these days. Soon found the cache. The log is almost full - I signed the log and also left an extra piece of paper to keep this going. TFTC.
Parked at the Northern foot of the pass and rode my E-MTB over the pass and down to the homestead.
Then turned around and biked back over the pass.
Great day out.
Quick find here thanks.

Saw the boundary ditch here - but such a wind, it is not a place I'd like to live. Must be vicious in winter.
Finally doing a Haka loop with nzser. Took a while to get the right angle - perhaps it's more obvious coming from the south? TFTC.
#19266. On the other side of the pass we saw a wallaby struggling to get over the fence (wonder it it's wallaby-proof). TFTC.
Found with StreetWalkerNZ on our Waitangi weekend to Kurow and environs. Today we are travelling from Christchurch to Kurow via the Hakataramea Pass Rd, a road that is new to both of us.
There was a stern warning at the start of the road about steep grades and fords. We came across several fords, some with water in them, but we must have missed the steep bits! As we approached one of the fords not far from this cache, we spotted a shag's? head in the dip, he was having an enjoyable swim in one of the watery fords and seemed a bit put out that he had to move for us. TFTC.

In the 21 years I've been in the South Island (21) the Hakataramea Valley Road is one road that I had never travelled. Today I decided to see what the road was all about. Starting out from Kurow it was my intention to go as far as the boundary gate between the valley and the MacKenzie Basin, visiting as many of the geocaches in the valley as I could.
Quick find. I had initially thought that this would be my last cache as I travelled up the road, but then I noted that there was another 3.5km further up. TFTC.

An enjoyable weekend enjoying the scenic McKenzie area, and finding some great caches along the way. TFTC
Cache in good condition. Geopup is a little wet after trying the full cattle crossing. Oh dear. mrandmrs out caching to Tekapo and back over Easter weekend - Tftc
For my personal challenge of working towards getting my calendar on GC.COM to be at least the same shade of green or darker I need to sign off at least 11 caches today. I won't grumble if I find one or two more. Today I decided to the the Hakataramea Pass and pick up the required caches.
Oh, there it is on the other side.
Cheers for the cache.

I had the opportunity for a trip up the Hakataremea today, something not to turn down especially if I might have the chance of grabbing a few caches. This was a quick find.
16.30: On the way from Naseby to Fairlie, approaching the Hakataramea as pass no. 2 (of 4). Once again a quick find along our journey up the valley. A typical hiding spot for New Zealand.
Weather: overcast with sunny moments, 19°C;
Wheelchair: no problem;
State: all good.
Thank you!

Came here this afternoon on a drive from Kurow to Lake Tekapo via the Hakataramea Pass. A quick find here. Signed log, TFTC.
Well it's about time I got this one off my list, it's been there nearly five years. - Bitsprayer
The (major road trip was about to begin) that was for the Oamaru Geofest trip in the company of HKCB and iammrwalker for a bit of a road trip across to the west coast, through Haast and in a roundabout way to Oamaru.
My trip stats were as follows: 617 caches (214 Puzzles), 3300kms, 500 litres of Petrol, 21 hours sleep, 100+hours caching time. THe weather was wonderful and apart from about a 6hour period on the sunday we had fine weather all the way and feel that we made a bit of a hole in the region.
Firstly thanks to all the CO's that put in the effort to to set up these caches and to all the CO's whose caches we did not find this trip, well we are already planning our next trip.
We worked hard at getting specific caches (especially the Geo Art around christchurch and hence our concentration on this area for the preliminary 24 hours. So after a couple of running repairs to the rental vehicle (fuses not working) we were off knowing that all ports could be charged and that sleep was for the weak.
Sorry about the copy and paste logs but that is what tends to happen with a number run of this size. Heading up throught he MacKenzie Basin to cross to Kurow on the way to Dansey's Pass before heading back and up to Oamaru

Came down this way from the North for the Oamaru Geofest, and decided to add a few more days to the weekend trip and turn it into a bit of a Mega mission, starting 5pm on Wednesday 18th and finishing 3pm Monday 23rd! Teaming up with Cats&Dragons for the first 24 hours then with Iammrwalker joining the team for the remainder.
Just a few of the stats for the trip were:
- 700 caches found, including 270+ puzzles (thanks to the Christchurch Geoart)
- 3300 km's driven, using over 500L of fuel $$$
- Just over 20 hours of sleep (about 4 per day on average), and about 100 hours of caching time.
Certainly a Mega Trip!
Day 4: With the lack of sleep starting to take a toll we finished Day 3 off early and got a few hours sleep before getting back to finding about 2am this morning. Todays mission was to find caches around Tekapo before heading South through the Mackenzine Country via Hakataramea Pass, and onto Dansey's pass before coming out on the coast and heading to Oamaru for the Geofest and caching around the area.
Sorry about the cut and past logs, but that seems to happen with cache runs of this size!

I found this Geocache on a Geocaching mega mission along with Cats&Dragons and HKCB. With only just over three and half thousand Geocache finds I was very much the over achiever in training. We were in the South Island to support the Oamaru Geofest event, hunt down some Jasmar and D/T harder to find Geocaches, lonely caches (those not found in more than 6 months), virtuals and try and meet some milestone numbers. We signed the logs HIC, an abbreviation of our respective Geocaching names, (H)KCB, (I)ammrwalker and (C)ats&dragons. A huge thanks to all the CO’s who placed and maintain the Geocaches we found.
I arrived in Christchurch late Thursday evening having left straight from work and was picked up by my intrepid companions in our four wheel drive rental to find they had already grabbed about 270 finds in the previous twenty four hours. I wonder if the rental company would have still let us have it had they known we would travel 3300km in it before returning it four days later? Our trip took us to Greymouth via Arthurs pass, Ngahere, down the west coast to Haast across to Hawea, Cromwell, Twizel, Aoraki Mt Cook, Tekapo, onto the east coast up to Oamaru and back up to Christchurch via Akaroa and countless diversions and small towns along the way. We slept in the car for the first two nights, grabbing some shut eye between cache finds, taking turns to drive. We rented a small place in Oamaru for the other two nights and appreciated a bed to sleep in and a hot shower. It was an amazing trip, in which I discovered the South Island has some of the most incredible scenery in the world.

Nice drive from Kurow to the Hakataramea Pass. We enjoyed the view on mountains around and farmlands. Thanks to geocaching we discovered lovely hidden places there. To many boxes to remember exactly so thank you for all of them. Most of them were easy to find.
Fefe.adrien and I signed on the logbook with our team name : Lekiprokos.

well what a mini adventure we had today, over the McKenzie pass, the Haka and finally over Meyers pass in the mini cooper, a bit bumpy but we all made it. Cheers for the cache.
finally made some time to head through the haka valley after doing some cache maintenance near otamatata grabbing some smiles on my way home to Geraldine tftc nice quick find
Day 2 of a 3-week summer road trip around the South Island with our kids: along scenic route 72 via the Mackenzie onto Haka pass, heading for Dansey's & Naseby. Clear blue skies, spectacular views all the way today. Breath-taking. Much as though I'd also love to stop at every cache along the way, the carefully negotiated plan is a few quality finds each day or risk divorce from my muggle husband & mutiny from the kids. We loved this cache description: amazing to think someone lived & worked out here in the depths of winter. Nice quick find, TFTC
Lovely drive through from Tekapo. A couple of marginal fords/river crossings for a car. Beautiful views . TFTC
Out and about with Karma Reprint on a weekend down south, nice spot when it's neither the middle of summer or winter. Thanks
Found with Kiwi Moose on a big weekend of caching. A good day to drive the Hakataramere Valley. A quick find. Thanks for the hide.

Nice drive over the Hakataramea Pass to find a few caches at this end of the valley. Extra bonus of a FTF.
