Logs
Found it, didnt want to touch it, did so nayway.couldnt fund the log as was so dark
Great hide. Didnt sign the log as its tiny and I have trouble rolling them up again. Did take a bit of thinking to figure out where the log was tho. Tftc
Found after a short search, when I started paying attention to the hint. No need to freak here.TFTC
Cute little cache. Had me going in circles for awhile but soon found it. Signed the log and returned. TFTC
Coordinates changed from:S 39 54.637 E 175 3.387Coordinates changed to:S 39 54.632 E 175 3.387Distance from original: 30.5 feet or 9.3 meters.Cache has been moved, but not very far away.
Freak hasn't moved far, he got a bit freaked out when his abode got flooded and manky. His new home shouldn't have those problems. No need to go poking about with sticks. The hint will help some more.
Forgot to log this....we checked after a finder reported finding Freak in another position and kindly left a log in a pill bottle. Uponcloser inspection, Freak was in fact intact, with his log....he had just been moved. Looking closer, we found his home to be flooded out and manky, so will scout out a new home for him.
We don't normally do throw downs but given it has obviously gone and the CO may have trouble getting here we left a waterproof log inside a pill container in the obvious spot based on the hint. Will send email photo to the CO. Interestingly I think we found the freak but no bison tube atached so left that with the container as well.
Reviewer Note: This cache is either being reconstructed, has already been reconstructed and is awaiting replacement, or is waiting for a maintenance trip. Mrs RRR had urgent surgery last week and treatment will be ongoing for some time. There IS a plan, albeit a loose one, and it hinges on many things, but please be assured there is a plan, and we make headway when we can. Many thanks, cheers RRR
Looks like Freak has gone for a walk....we'll see if he's found a new home in a new hole somewhere close...
We are in NZ from Australia. This is our replacement holiday instead of Seattle 2020, not quite the same but that’s all AirNz can muster up for our credit. But we are happy it’s a holiday and we get to see all our NZ pals. As well as this there is geocaching to be done.
When planning this trip I asked my friend in Upper Hutt where we could stay on the way back to Auckland she suggested Whanganui which we thought sounded interesting as we haven’t been here before. Little could she have guessed that it was the home to many many wonderful caches. What a bonus for us.
I drew up a list of caches with lots of FP and it did not disappoint.
This one definitely earned its name today, fun hide. TFTC
SA’s Leap Year Mega Event GCA1DNA - keep the date free - 29th February 2024 - Adelaide South Australia . Can’t wait!!

I spotted something a bit freaky but luckily am not frightened of them. TFTC
Found with Nutty Nora. Coordinates were misleading so spent a lot of time exploring the wrong tree (which was very cool anyway)
Found with Piwaka54 who is not very brave! Searched a really freaky neighbour - stuck my hand up in some really freaky places. Met a man with a dog. Nearly got flattened a couple on e bikes - another freaky experience. Don’t you find the new silent ‘electric’ cars freaky! TFTC
Out finding caches for 2023. First for the year. I have looked for this on previously with sucess. Today I just walked right up to it. must be my lucky day. Thanks for hiding RachelsRiffRaff.
18 September 2022 13:17. A previous DNF ably avenged by GSEL. TFTC RachelsRiffRaff for placing this cache, number 11728 for me.
#11,728. I am having a weekend away from Wellington geocaching in the River City. Have come up with geocaching buddy Infoferret and we got an early start today as we need to head back to Welly early in the afternoon. After visiting the cafe at Upokongaro for lunch we stopped here on the way back into the city. We both had a DNF here last time. Got fixated by a suitable looking hiding spot nearby. Today I checked some other areas and quickly spied it in a rather nasty hole with sticky stuff. Has it been building a nest in here. I plucked it from the hide, squashed it under my boot and made it safe to handle (just joking) then passed it to IF to extract the log. Signed the logbook and replaced the cache as found. Thanks RachelsRiffRaff for placing this freaky cache here.
I wanted to head away out of Auckland, was going to be just an overnight thing, but one thing led to another and I stayed 3 nights at Whakapapa Village. I had in mind cache maintenance in the area of Mnt Ruapehu and to place a cache too, and to collect several EC's as part of a challenge cache I signed in on a few years ago in the USA.
Now I'm in Wanganui collecting EC's etc and some gadget caches and a few caches with several FP's. I pulled over in my van and walked to a tree, but initially was the wrong tree, but still would have been an excellent location for a cache. Eventually I found the little beast and after some persuasion the cache was released and now mine.
Thanks for the hide RachelsRiffRaff.

Fortunately, this one did not have us Freak'n out, and we were able to locate it without my trouble at all. TFTC

I got distracted by the tree inside a tree with a vine growing on the outside... but back on the case and made a quick find. Being a person known to scream at plastic pests I did take a moment to gather myself to find the log.
I have been thinking about the perfect place to do five caches at night as part of my Masters (GC2J6AY). The perfect opportunity came when staying with relatives in Whanganui - surrounded by undiscovered green dots. Even better my brother is travelling with me - a partner in crime and torch holder. Its a beautiful clear quiet night as we headed out, after being fed by nanna. This was always in the plan as being last! It had to be given its description. So after completing 4 others we headed here. We had a couple of choices as co-ords were moving a bit, but it was my brother who got the joy of being freaked first. A great cache, luv the effort here and a great one to finish a night's caching. Gets a FAV from me.
Well wouldn't you know it....it WAS cache creep. Either a cacher found it and forgot where to put it back, or a muggle found it and put it back, but the original was around the other side of the tree in a groove. Have removed the twin and checked on the newcomer. All good.
Well that IS freaky! might be a case of cache creep....will have to investigate!
Visiting Whanganui and had time for a quick cache and this one was close by. Youngest son and I were hunting together. Checked out a freaky looking specimen but it wasn't there so looked a little further away. I called out "found it" from one side at exactly the same time as he called out "found it" from the other side, well that was freaky! Turns out I found the old cache and he found the replacement! I signed the new logsheet (he's not a premium member so didn't sign) and we replaced both where we found them. TFTC
We went to put in a new log today and Freak has crawled off somewhere, so will disable while we find a replacement. stay tuned
Out and about on our bikes today, exploring the riverside trails and gathering smilies as we went. Spotted this one quite quickly, thanks to the great camo! Earns a fave from us. The log is damp and has been ripped in half, but we were still able to find a place to sign. It is pretty full though. TFTC
Freaking awesome cache! We struggled to find this to start with as we were looking in all the wrong places. But we persevered and made the cool find. TFTC, very clever and FP awarded.
Oooohhhhh this one made me shudder. I wouldn’t go near it then trayc.g put it in my hand while she signed the log and I gave her the most dirtiest look ever. FREAKED OUT! TFTC
By reading the description it sounds like everybody is a bit of a ‘freak’ in some sort of way! I obviously come under the ‘freak-ishly awesome’ category of course….or am I just ‘freak-ing full of it’?? What I do know is that this cache is freaking frightening! FP for the lurker
It’s day 101 today of being stranded in NZ. Thanks to lockdown and trans Tasman bubble pause, all my flights have been cancelled. I am (im)patiently waiting for more flights to open up to get home to my family in Australia.
Having been housebound due to restrictions (and taking a tumble at the local plaza ending up in a moon boot and crutches) I decided to reactivate my geocaching app and go a hunting. Certainly less scary in Nz. No snakes or dangerous creepy crawlies to contend with!!! (Or so I thought!!!)
Log is quite damp may need to be replaced soon.

After finding one of two caches near by I headed to this interesting looking cache.
I searched the most likely spot for a while before trying another spot. That one looked to be no good however in standing up I jumped when I saw what turned out to be the cache - slightly different than I expected but along the same lines.
FP for the jump it gave me.

ANZAC weekend in Taranaki/Whanganui . Focused on Adventure Labs and also whatever will be handy. This hide was one of them.
I had DNF here before. Almost gave up. Then reading previous logs helps. I was at wrong spot!
All good here.
Last cache on town.
Heading back to Auckland slowly....

Took a trip from Taranaki to National Park for the long weekend to walk the Tongariro crossing again but the weather wasn't playing the same game,
headed home through Wanganui and stopped here to grab this one that I had in my Wishlist I had to look around for a bit before i spotted it but just as I did a car pulled up beside me,
Well what is the chances of a car pulling up at the same time at the exactly same place as the cache? It could have stopped anywhere along this road but nope he stopped right there! what was strange though is the passenger got out and walked about 2-300 meters back from the direction they came from and threw a loaf of bread on the grass while the driver stayed in the car watching me watching him.
The passenger returned to the car and they both sat there doing nothing, saying nothing, so I had to walk over near there car and intimidate them into looking away, after talking out loud and making my presence very obvious they looked over the road in the opposite direction, this was my chance to snatch the cache and lurk around the bush and sign the log, Now I had to return to GZ and try to replace without being spotted putting it back, luckily for me the occupants were not keen at looking at me still so a sly replace then return to my car and gone!
Thanks to the CO'S for the placement and maintenance up in this area.
Apologies for the generic logs

Let little blue hen retrieve this one. Had to skip it yesterday as a muggle was parked having lunch at gz. Impresse.d the chicken didn't utter a sound as she nabbed the container. Probably because we have found similar but larger before. Tftcsl
Freak !!!! Passing through today and walking along the riverside.
Freaking awesome !!

Traveling down from National Park to Wanganui this morning, and nothing else planned, so plenty of time to pick up caches along the way. We picked up quite a few along the river and then there was this one - ugh! My muggle hubbie found it and waited for me to retrieve it - so kind of him!! TFTC
#12,142. Park, walk and grab on Anzac Parade (State Highway 4 and Te Araroa Trail) in Whanganui. Fortunately, apart from passing traffic, GZ was all quiet at the time of our visit. Relatively quick find. Freakin’ awesome. The cache was in good condition, all nice and dry inside. Took nothing, left nothing, signed log.

Flowerydaze and I are up in Whanganui for a few days of caching and this one was on the list. A great day for caching, FD found this one I knew by the shriek ! TFTC
Well it certainly freaked me out! Talla64 and I had been searching in the wrong place, then I moved to another spot, not expecting to find anything, and it gave me a helluva fright. Thank you for the cache (I think).
Freaking little blighter. Even though I was pretty sure I still had to give it a couple of good shoves to make sure.... Co-ordinates also had me in the road bit just thought logically and there it freaking was
Thanks RachelsRiffRaff
It was a bit scary... I wondered how many more were lurking just out of sight!

coords are a bit off here, search here there and everywhere, ok, not in that spot, change places, then spot something that looks a bit freakish, tftc
A good find on the 13th even though not a black Friday. Glad I did this in daylight. TFTC
Nope not this time. Coordinates settled in the middle of road which doesn't help. Did look on both sides of the road but mostly around the one rather large object with lots of hiding options. Just couldn't see anything that would freak me out. Hopefully I will discover it on another trip to the River City.
What an awesome cache. Nice and easy find on this drizzly evening. I thought it was freakin’ awesome but my son was totally freaked. TFTC!
Up from Wellington, visiting Wanganui for the weekend, and out for a stroll on a beautiful Friday evening. No problem finding this one, and even though I kinda knew what to expect but was still a bit freaked All safe and dry. TFTC.

Out for an evening of caching once the rain had cleared. Had a good idea what we were looking for but still needed a bit of nerve to tease it out. Great hide and a favourite from us.
Find number 6392. In Wanganui with a German friend who is doing part of the Te Araroa trail. After dropping her off at where she had previously go to I spent the day caching. I had my bicycle so spent the day on the cycle trails each side of the river.
Tried a few options before finally seeing it. Signed and replaced. Thank you for the placement.

This is my second full day in Wanganui getting lots of caches around town. I looked at the other, larger possibilities before I got to the right one. TFTC.

Spent a pleasant day caching in Whanganui. The forecast rain held off until late in the day which was good. Even though you know its not for real it still gives you the shivers. Cheers and TFTC
Lol this was the funniest. My man did freak. Fooled me at first then laugh and said that is the cache. He still wasn't taking any chances. Thanks for a great cache. A fav from me.
We spent a long time looking in the wrong tree. After some morning tea my brain was fuelled up and I spotted a little gleam.
Good cache, great hiding spot too. It was more subtle than I expected ao I was not looking in the right place to start with
Soon found. TFTC

Freak has indeed gone. Will make another and replace shortly, perhaps a little bit further away as this hidey hole has been damaged a few times.
We walked into town and back today from the Whanganui River Top 10 Holiday Park, following the riverside and caching as we went. An enjoyable stroll with plenty to keep us amused.
No luck here.
No luck here.
I'm sure we found the right hole and the right tree- but couldn't see the cache. We must have been missing something!
Loved the last log.....we feel your pain! checked Freak on our way out last night...he is also snug in his hidey place, sometimes cachers hide him a little too well. Will also check the other DNF on 'Water'...hope you're able to give Bird and Freak another go sometime. Cheers
Found the freakin' hole in the freakin' tree, but no freakin' cache to be freakin' found! Perhaps I was in the freakin' wrong place! Sigh
second time be to be muggled this time by the CO lol so glad to finally have found this while hubby did the find.. which I am thankful for it was really good to have a lovely chat with the COs while signing the log, its been a long day and we had plans to go get the night cache but the boys were over it and bed was calling thanks for the tricky hide and the well thought out cache gets fav from us
Had to put a new nano on cache as didn't have a lid to match the last one we used (that got lost). All sorted and ready to go. Happy hunting....
messaged the co - pretty sure we are looking in the correct place just waiting on confirmation.
took the wrong road after the mega so taking the long way home and finding some great caches along the way. TFTC
