Another of the awesome Rail series. Very early when I visited, so all quiet. Cache in excellent condition. Another easy find along this busy highway.I love these hides where it's a container within a container, guaranteed the log is always dry.

07-Sep-24
Decide to head north today to get away from the miserable Wellington weather. Most of the day was reasonably warm, but occasional rain and strong winds. On the whole the containers were great (2 or 3 inside each other) with dry logs, but the locations were mostly "throw me down" locations with very poor parking (if any) and lots of lunatics in this area driving down side roads at 100km/h+ speeds. Found the cache lying in the grass. There are also two warning signs - The cache was to the left of the left most sign. Replaced where I could see it should have been. T4TC.

06-Sep-24
Heading home after a fishing trip to the Tongariro TFTC

08-Mar-24
Off for a weekend away in Mangaweka on our 38th wedding anniversary. Not as quick a find as I was expecting but got there after a while. TFTC.

27-Jan-24
Just ahead of the rain! A quick find once I read the hint properly and it started spitting as I was returning the container back to its spot..made a quick getaway as I have one more cache down the road to get. Thanks for another forgotten station lesson the Seagnoid.

07-Jan-24
On my way home from Welly on a little geo adventure on the way back to Rotorua. Thanks for this one.

30-Dec-23
Tftc. I was a bit afraid because of the warning sign.

02-Jun-23
An easy find thanks to the hint. Thanks for placing the cache

09-Apr-23
Today TrinityNZ, Just_looking00, and I gathered in Foxton early in the morning to launch an assault on the Chewy Mint trail, the KAS trail, and assorted others that we happened across. Our aim for the day was 30 (absolute minimum), preferably 50. Our total for the day was 53, so more than satisfactory. We signed all logs as JMT. Most of the caches were easily found, some were a little rusty, some had wet logs. Where we could, we replaced any dodgy logs.
At GZ, we made a beeline for the hint object and hunted around with no success. Sitting back, we noticed another object not three metres away, but nearly hidden in the long grass. Quick find after that. Tftc!

09-Apr-23
I’m out and about on this fine Easter Sunday with JustLookingOO and matagouri. We are heading north of Foxton to work towards some challenges, including 100 finds in April and 50 finds today.

This did take a bit of time for us to find, traipsing around in the long grass, as there was more than one thing that matched the hint object. Matagouri eventually found the right spot (in a place I’d already checked twice!) Log signed as JMT. Thanks for the cache, theSeagnoid.

09-Apr-23
Chasing volume of caches found in a day with TrinityNZ and matagouri - this small series perfect for that. Team name "JMT" was used in log.
A quick and easy find once at right sign. SH1 sure busy and noisy today. TFTC Smile

05-Mar-23
A lot of roadworks along this road at the moment. I had someone right behind me yesterday when I went past so wasnt able to pull over. Today I had more warning so was able to park around the corner and grab it. Thanks Seagnoid

09-Nov-22
I've found a few of this series over the years as I worked in the area or just passing through. Time to tick another few off today. I thought I was smart and left the GPS in the car - not the best idea as I found the cache in the third place I checked. TFTC # 18,628

25-Sep-22
On my way home after attending twigs event in Levin. When I figured out what danger post Seagnoid meant, I was able to sign this beauty. Wonderful to read the history of the long gone railway lines and stations. Tftc

23-Aug-22
One of around 20 caches located today in the wider Sanson area. Nice to have a day without rain for once, after a very wet winter to date! Last one for the day. A reasonably quick find before heading home. #5290. TFTC.

27-Dec-20
Day 1 of my week long road trip of geocaching, camping and seeing a few bands. Today I left Wellington mid morning and battled the SH1 traffic most of the way, caching as I headed for Wanganui. For the fist time I am using the cachetur.no website and app to plan out my caching, and so far I am liking it.

Overshot this one so after pulling far off the road I walked my way back for a quick find here. TFTC.

16-Dec-20
Found a trackable which needs moving on so off we go.

12-Sep-20
tftc quick find on our way north and what a beautiful day to cache too

12-Sep-20
On our way back home after a weekend attending a meeting in Levin. Heading back to Marton for the night with the aim of picking up as many of the caches on Highway 1, on the left hand side, as we could. Mrs S found this one and we dropped a TB.

Thanks for another smilie on the highway the Seagnoid.

Easy find thanks

16-Feb-19
Nice day for a find

04-Jan-19
Today was a numbers run for us. Lots of caches to choose from in this area so we did all but 2 of the KAS series, the mint tin series and some railway ones. 98 caches found in total and 2 DNF's something tells me we are going to have to go out again to find 2 more today. Many thanks to all the CO's of the caches we visited today, hugely appreciated and certainly love the quiet roads after Auckland.

29-Dec-18
Day 3/9 of our New Years trip up to the North Island. This was find #94/100 for the day and #163/526 of our trip.
Today was a numbers run of mostly PnG caches. We started in Palmy and set off to see if we could Spell, then headed up to Bulls and after that rounded up a few Smurfs, Herbs, Airplanes, Railway stations and anything else along the way until we came in to finish the KAS trail we started in Oct 2016. Quite surprising how much busier the traffic is here compared to just down the road. A few red herring here but once we found it I ran back over the road to the car to grab some TBs. We also left our new signature item, a Rainbow Beadtail. Thanks for the effort involved in placing and creating this series for all of us to enjoy. Smile

30-Nov-18
I have set myself a goal to get the requirements for the mystery cache The well-rounded cacher challenge (Manawatu) This requires me to get 25 badges 5 of which need to be gemstone badges. So each time I now go out caching weather it is by myself or with fellow cacher I will try to get a least one cache that will help me get closer to my goal

Out today getting a couple of caches to finish off You might be a Social Butterfly if…Souvenirs before time runs out.

A quick and easy find

Thanks for the cache

12-Nov-18
Today was part two of my road trip home to Nelson from Auckland, after picking up my son's "new" car from Napier, taking me from Taihape to Wellington... with time to find a few caches along the way, of course. TFTC, Biggles.

19-Oct-18
Heading to Wellington Mega a day earlier with Squirrel Nutcase and NZ Flossy a day earlier.
Out to collect caches that we have previously passed.
So sorry cache owners, we had a fairly large find today so it's a copy and paste day.
Thanks everyone for their cache placements that we found. SLTFTC

19-Oct-18
Found - on the way down to mega thanks for the placement

19-Oct-18
WENZ Mega Weekend is almost here... Motoring south today with Gap (of Fap and Gap), and NZFlossy. Our intention is to cache our way to our accommodation in Lower Hutt... The big news of the day is that Highway 1 is closed at Pukerua Bay. A truck crash and chemical spill have shut down all lanes coming to and from Wellington. We have plenty of caches to find to keep us occupied, but this could be a long wait...

Friday: I have been looking forward to this next collection of caches; a sweep south from Sanson, along Highway 1. I am mostly looking forward to the historic railway caches in the Manawatu Rail series... Another addition to the rail series. TFTC.

19-Oct-18
On my way to the mega with Squirrel Nutcase and Fap and Gap. Having lots of fun and enjoying the ride and the scenery. It’s what I love about caching - great company and visiting great places. Thanks to all the COs for all their caches Hopefully we see some of them at the mega this weekend TFTC

18-Oct-18
Up for the Mega for the week, headed up the coast for a couple of days on family stuff, but did get few caches in for the day. many thanks to the cache placer's - Bitsprayer

15-Oct-18
Day 2 of my road trip for WENZ Mega. Flew up from Invercargill to Wellington yesterday and will end the day in Wanganui.
Pulled up the side road for a late lunch, then a quick find of the cache. Hint in perfect.
Also found a perspex window with wof details and electrical certificate. Must have blown out of a caravan recently as little condensation etc under it.
Took the TB to move on.
Thanks for the smilie the Seagnoid.

My family is staying in this area for a few days this week. We thought it would be nice to have a break away from Wellington, but the weather has somewhat dampened things... so to speak.

I've been looking for a decent sized cache for a TB I picked up in Christchurch last month which has a hair brush attached to it. This cache is big enough to hold it and I was glad to drop it off here. Its a bit too big to put in my back pocket.

It was a bit wet while I was here so I took it back to the car to complete the formalities.

The cache is in good condition. All nice and dry.

Thank you

Cherrys Rule

29-Jul-18
My bag, jacket, and food have been stolen the day before from the car, but thanks to Popmac I had batteries and some cache to keep myself busy until the flight in the evening. So that's what I did! I decided to find as many as possible with the petrol I had and driving without the driver side window. It did rain and hail some in the morning, but then it cleared up and it was all good except the wind! Thanks for all the caches along the way that helped me keep my sanity Smile TFTC!!

22-Jul-18
Taking my granddaughter back home to Turangi, wanting to get some caches on the way but the torrential rain is making it difficult. Managed to get this in a clear period but it rained on us just as we found it! TFTC

19-Jul-18
Nice quick find on a road trip north
Another Manawatu Rail cache logged

11-Jul-18
I took a day off work to do some geocaching up in the Rangitikei area. Mostly to bulk out my numbers for the Hidden Creatures, but to also finish qualifying for a couple of challenge caches, plus a few other geocaching tasks. All good here. More pathtags to leave Smile TFTC

06-Apr-18
Maintenance run. Cache in crappy condition, replaced.

30-Mar-18
Found today with TwigNZ on our way to the KAS power trail, TFTC The Seagnoid.

30-Mar-18
My son and I have been trying to get around to doing the KAS trail for quite some time now, ever since we finished getting through the nearby Chewy Mint trail.

The Planetary Pursuits event currently running, and an available free day with my son over the Easter weekend, seemed like the perfect excuse to finally hit it!

So I planned a route that also took into account some other nearby caches, such as this one, making a grand total of 84 caches to be attempted today, curious to know if we could absolutely blast our previous record (40) for the number of finds for a day. As it turned out, we had just 5 DNF's, so it was a tremendous result that propelled us almost all the way to Pluto in 1 day! I now have a very tired, but happy lad.

I apologise for the generic 'cut n paste' style of my log, but with 79 to do tonight I figured it was the only way.

This was a straightforward find. The cache and logbook are damp but otherwise fine.

Having just had my first placement muggled a couple of weeks ago, I am very much in appreciation of all CO's who place and maintain caches for the rest of us to find. Thanks for all your efforts.

28-Mar-18
Tftc log and everything wet needs attention
logged as sad

09-Mar-18
I had some spare time while in town visiting some of the rellies, so I thought Id do a few of the easy drivebys in the area. I had a great day and grabbed a heap of caches. Lots of damp and wet caches, but not surprising given the weather. I did find some that had been replaced, but found the original nearby. Signed one or the other depending on which I found first. Thanks to all the CO's for a great day and apologies for the generic log.

26-Feb-18
We 3 (rustynz and Rebel98 and myself) are down from Auckland for 3 days of caching, we regularly fly away together on grab-a-seat deals for 3 day caching trips, and today is our last day of our adventures.

A few more caches to try for inc this one for rusty, then we start heading back soon to Palmy to fly back to Auckland.

26-Feb-18
Caching around Palmerston North, collecting a few caches along the way with rustynz and gorby. Thanks for the hides Big Grin

26-Feb-18
Having fun finding a couple of caches in the series with a group of Westies (rustynz, rebel98 and gorby)

We have been lucky with the parking, able to find a safe spot nearby. The cache was soon found, and we were on our way. Thanks the Seagnoid for the history and the hide Big Grin

11-Feb-18
A journey from Kapiti to Whangarei was an ideal time to stop here and there and seek out some caches whenever the opportunity presented itself. Some of the caches were a bit of a challenge. I was accompanied by team geocacher Mr. T and we saw some beautiful scenery so it was an enjoyable trip. Thank you for placing this cache and for taking the trouble to maintain it.

29-Dec-17
The clue was spot on for this one. The log was slightly damp but still usable. Thanks for the find.

04-Oct-17
Quick stop on the way home. SL TFTC

24-Sep-17
A trip north to buy another motorhome and couldn't help but grab a cache on the way...and it is the Seagnoid.......jeez you get about. Took a bit longer than expected however the gps was spot on, should have believed the technology from the beginning..tftc

21-Jul-17
No problems with the parking as I snuck round into the side-road. Not a lot of trouble with the warning sign either - - - the geotrail, and of course the GPS ensuring that I headed for the right one. TFTC Smile.

14-Apr-17
Auf unserer Fahrt Richtung Turangi haben wir diese Dose am Rande der Strasse gut gefunden.
Heute waren hier Massen an Autos unterwegs. Da tat eine Pause gut.
Greetings from Germany!

Looked for ages... 200m north. Found on way back

31-Mar-17
#3798. I had the day off work so decided I needed another road trip to wrap up a very busy month (of geocaching). I am working on the DGSC challenge and foolishly decided to go for the bulk find elective which needs 1500+ cache finds in the year. But one month needed 300+ finds and I was close enough to that target in March so went for it today to get the remaining 61 caches I needed. So headed north to the tropics. Parked around the corner off the highway. Quick walk back and the cache was soon spotted. Signed and returned where found. Thanks for the cache.

22-Mar-17
Grabbed while passing and had some time. TFTC

25-Feb-17
It is a gorgeous saturday afternoon so while i was returning from the Levin fun day and CITO event, I thought I would log some of the KAS caches and follow them up with a manawatu rail. These rails can always be depended on.

Cheers.

This cache was attempted as part of the Palmerston North Power Leg of our "Road to 6,000" Extravaganza for 2016.

A quick find.

19-Nov-16
In the Manawatu for the weekend with some caching buddies- Uncle Sam, NZTravellers, Stik-a-crane, HeMaLuDy. The goal was to find as many of the caches in the area as we could in the space of a day, and we all had a blast jumping in and out of the cars, racing each other to the caches, and laughing and joking along the way, and in we general had an awesome weekend down here.
After a while we started playing "musical cars"- and would race each other back to the cars in order to vie for prime position.... or just to pip someone else at the post..... it was rather hilarious, mainly because of the creative ways of piling into cars or sneaking in just before someone else when you knew they were aiming for that seat. One or two people may have accidently (or not so accidentally) have got sat on!!!!!

This cache was celebrated as NZT's 4000th cache (although it turned out they had calculated wrong.... lol....) and a great song and dance was had on the side of the road when they made the find. It was rather amusing. I dropped a TB (Owl you need is love) to celebrate the occasion!

Log signed as Team SEAC (South East Auckland Crew) in order to save log space.
TFTC!

19-Nov-16

In the area this weekend looking for big numbers with the local trails and came across this one heading up SH1 we just had to make a quick stop....

The Nice history lessons continue on the rail system in the area...

Signed in as SEAC to save logbook space.

TFTC.

19-Nov-16
Special cache for part of team, as they got their 4000th cache.

--

Our team from Auckland wanted to do a major day of caching, so headed down to Foxton area for a massive day. We got about 205.

Very sorry for the generic logs, but when doing so many in one day very hard to make notes on each.

But a big thank you to all the cache owners for putting out all of the great caches we visited.

Logs signed as either “Team SEAC” or “SEAC” – South East Auckland Crew.

19-Nov-16
We thought this was our 4000th cache, but it turns out this was our 4008th cache, so the song and dance on the side of the road was for nothing except to entertain the people driving past! Oh well, we had great fun and finally reached this milestone having fun with friends. TFTC!

BTW MrNZT found this one Smile

19-Nov-16
We were down from Auckland for the weekend to tackle a number of the power trails in the area - the goal for the weekend was to increase our numbers and we achieved 140 caches today. A nice quick find here. Logged as team SEAC to save room on the logs - today we were with darthcacher1, purply, newlynfam, stik-a-crane, NZTravellers, UncleSamNZ.

01-Nov-16
Thanks for this series of caches. Will need to finish another day otherwise I might never make it to Wellington on time
