I was impressed with GZ but not the questions sorry MPI came close to getting question 1 right But could not get my head around Q2
The three excellent examples of an Earthcache by the CO, were undertaken during the Great Victorian Cache Crawl. GC4QEPH, GCAR2Y4 and GCATAC1.We were following the greatest show on the road from Malmsbury, heading to Bendigo and eventually Echuca. It was at the Bendigo event that we met up with the illustrious CO, and asked for his advice on the above mentioned Earthcaches. We thought we had things under control and were sure we had, at the very least, a basic understanding of what he was trying to teach us.Is there a word that covers our level of understanding as below basic? With some good advice on a tool to use regarding one of these Earthcaches, and us answering a few questions whilst at an event hosted by the generous CO, who by the way made a few pots of the best soup I have had in a while. The soup contained a conglomerate of ingredients and had a perfect consistency and flavour, we were given the go ahead to log our finds, and spur us on to studying in greater detail the areas we are lacking.Thank you micaparamedic for the lessons and the soup, but most of all your love of teaching us something that you obviously love.dalerious will post each photo of us in situ at each site.
Visited between events on 17/8/24 ....again. This was not the first time that catnap777 and I have seen this remarkable geographical anomaly. We came to this very spot to attempt this Earthcache once before, but it was our first attempt at learning about Strike and Dip and we left feeling more foolish than when we arrived. We did nothing with the limited information we gleaned.Fast forward to our 2nd visit having successfully logged another earthcache on the similar subject of folds and plains and.....We were glad to meet up with the CO at his event in The Great Victorian Cache Crawl who gently instructed us on the errors of our ways enough to grant us logging rights after a short Q&A discission. All this was done as micaparamedic was serving us some of his delicious home made soup that he supplied for all in attendance.Thankyou G, for your soup and your patience...... and your Earthcache.
Happy International Geocaching Day!It was time to start the Great Victorian Cache Crawl and with scores of geocachers already in the area it was a great atmosphere. Plenty of social opportunities, loads of caches to find and just good fun to be had! With the car packed, there was only one thing left to do - Find some caches! This was one of the many stops made along the way.We bumped into to some fellow cachers at GZ. This one boggled our minds but between OzHockeyChick, delirious, catnap777 and I we came up with an attempt!A big thanks goes to micaparamedic for taking the time to add Anyone for a dip? to the geocaching map for us all to find and enjoy.----------------------------------------------------------Are you ready for Victorias next big event?Join us for Victorias first ever *Block Party* to celebrate 25 years of geocaching.**When:** March 22 - 23, 2025**Where:** Hume Global Learning Centre, SunburyLog your will attend at [**GCAP417: The Sunbury Event** ](https://coord.info/GCAP417) Visit our [**Block Party website** ](https://geocachingvictoria.com.au/the-sunbury-event) for more details on the exciting lineup of events and activities as they are released!
It's time for the Great Victorian Cache Crawl 2024!! Accommodation booked, bags packed, supplies stocked, RoamingHowies geovehicle (Tex) filled, caches selected and downloaded, all set for a weekend jam-packed with adventure, conversation, laughs, food and coffee!Arrived to find catnap777 and dalerious already here, so we joined in the discussions. Alfetola joined soon after.Together we measured this, that and the other.Answers sent. Thanks for the lesson. Thanks for bringing us here by placing this cache, micaparamedic ~~
Very confused by this one, but the fiveOf us unanimously agreed on the answer so at least well all be doing remedial geology together. Tftc.
Down this way with deanside who was up for a session in geo-ology 101. She paid attention and took notes. She used the phone tott in ways she did not know! She did not lick the rocks. Answers supplied by deanside. Impressive fold right in your face. Thanks micaparamedic and clear skies from TeamAstro. Found this returning from Bendigo with mum again today, and in the company of TeamAstro. This has been on my radar for a while but it took some knowledge from TeamAstro to answer the questions. Pretty obvious when its explained. Certainly an amazing piece of geology how lucky it wasnt destroyed but showcased as to what magnificent things Mother Nature can create! Thanks micaparamedic for showcasing this area and contributing to this great game for myself and others to enjoy. Happy trails!
Not too many caches to locate in Castlemaine so why not get the guaranteed earthcache find. This is one amazing bit of strata and well worth the visit for everyone. Thanks micaparamedic for the great earthcache.
On our way to the Canberra mega. What an interesting spot. Never seen anything like it. Not sure. we totally understood what we were doing but a chat with the CO will fix that. Favourite point from us.
Visiting Newstead for a few hours and saw this on the way back. This formation is very impressive indeed, so glad micaparamedic brought us here.
What a great spot for an earth cache! I can only write a note, because we are passing through and I also can't get my head around the complication of calculating dip and strike right now. Want to thank the CO for a great lesson and interesting cache though.
Yesterday I visited this earthcache on my way to a CITO event at Campbells Creek. After discussions on how to fulfil the requirements to log this cache I headed back for a look after a second event at the Botanical Gardens. Answers sent and hope it is acceptable by the CO. Thanks for bringing me to this great rock formation.
This was an interesting one, not sure if right answers were sent but very different to what seen before. CJ
While down at Ballarat with my Geo Chauffeur doing the GeoTour we called by this one.I have sent of what I think is the right answers, It is our interpretation of the answers.Do hope the are what you wanted. Thanks for teaching us something new. IT was a bit wet when there and I did have to get change after doing this. Lucky we had our van in tow. Thanks for this earth cacheLilDonna
Amazing piece of rock art made by nature. Answers sent of I am still a little confused but hopefully all good. Thanks GJ
A short trip up to Maldon and Heathcote this weekend grabbing a few caches on the way.Dip I have no trouble understanding, but I struggled with Strike. It seemed to vary a lot around this fold.Fortunately at a recent event in Eppalock the CO gave me a personal lesson about this earth cache. Thanks, Robmc.
Have sent answers and am hoping they’re correct!

We have sent our answers to the CO lets hope we have understood what was required. Thank you for bringing this to our attention.
I visited this one some time back and it is certainly a very interesting sample of what lies beneath the surface.
At a recent event I was discussing the answers with the CO and was given permission to log this one as a find.
**Thanks to micaparamedic for this Earthcache and showing me the area.**

We’re driving from Bendigo to Ballarat today, letting the cache map guide us along in ordinary weather, cold and wet.
Very cool…. We’ve done some measurements, will review them and send in tonight….

A wonderful earthcache. Took a few readings to satisfy the logging requirements, having read up on the technical details and found a useful phone app (Rocklogger) that I could use as a tool to make the necessary measurements.
Visited GZ as the first stop on a morning jog, and took the time to soak it all in. I would have never come here if it wasn’t for this earthcache, so thanks micaparamedic for highlighting this location. It’s a spectacular geological feature.

In the spirit of reconciliation we would like to acknowledge the Traditional Custodians of country (for Castlemaine, these are the Dja Dja Wurrung people) on which we geocache throughout Australia and their connections to land, sea and community. We (the pants people) pay our respects to their Elders past and present and extend that respect to all Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples today.

Wow. What a cool geological feature. I must say this is the most clear example of a e-cache I've come across. The folds are so clear and distinct and the shape perfectly fits.
To top this off I made a recent trip to Bendigo and did the underground mine tour. This is a beautiful example of what the miners were hunting for. Obviously this one was missing the gold as it would gone otherwise.
A favorite point? Of course!
Thanks so much for bringing me to this great location!

Out with my bush walking club for a 4 day base camp. This was our first walk around the town. Really interesting piece of geology here. Thanks micaparamedic
Well, what a remarkable feature! On pulling up I thought it was a kiln. Without the earthcache we would not have known this was here. Many thanks.
We detoured today to find this spot. Really a remarkable feature. Perfect for a Earthcache.
Found with GeoHubby TB142 on our way home from Queensland last year but forgot to log it.

This is a swish and dramatic geological formation, very much enjoyed it. Found with BoabTree and Geodad.
I had been to Castlemaine before, but had no idea that this rock formation existed in the middle of town. One of the best examples of an anticline that I have seen. I have sent my answers to the CO and am logging the cache hoping that they are acceptable.
Was on our way to Bendigo when we decided to stop over in Castlemaine for a couple of geocaches. We struggled with the concept of this one, but the CO was nice and gave us permission to log this one even though we weren’t very close to the actual measurements. TFTC
Hi there micaparamedic, we located your cache Anyone for a dip? today.

What an amazing rock formation - hard to believe that the shape is natural. We were hopeless at calculating the strike and dip - even with an app and watching YouTube videos at GZ! Made a guess and sent our answers to the CO.
Found it whilst travelling back to Gippsland.

Checked my gallery and noted the single photo I took on 4 Oct last. I measured, mused and thought I sent a message with my geologist answers. Back in town so could wander up and measure again but only if I get time. Cheers.
Thank you for showing us this interesting place. I can't really believe that this is naturelly formed.

My (our) hat comes off to you micaparamedic, we have EC's of all different D ratings and even on the lower D rated EC's we get people telling us our caches are too hard, I wonder how many times you have had that comment passed omn this one? Well that was me today, I checked the D rating several times after reading the questions. I'll admit it, even with the love of rocks that I (geo mum) have I still get confused with strikes and dips. I didn't turn upto GZ with a protractor and I hadn't used my Geology app for so long that my phone had stored it in my cloud other than on my phone, so I took some thorough observations and decided to answer the questions back at camp later. After telling the kids off for interupting and asking thier father every few minutes about thier homework, I too found myself asking him for help with my 'homework'. Geo Dad is pretty switched on with maths inclusive of measurments and angles, after a quick google geology lesson he felt confident enough to look at the fold and answer. I really wanted to know the correct answers if ours were wrong so I called the CO, full points for him assnwering at dinner time and discussing this fabulos fold with me. We were slightly out with one measurment but I will admit the revised measurment hubby came up with was much more accurate than the one I initally come up with, I was miles out!!
Thanks for enhancing our geology knowledge micaparamedic a fav from us.

The Bruces enjoyed a post lockdown reunion in Castlemaine this weekend, which mainly involved sitting around at the Caravan Park. We had a great swim over at Cairn Curran, but for me this fold will live long in the memory and I daresay in the memories of the younger Bruces too. Thanks micaparamedic for bringing me here.
In Castlemaine today for a strudel making workshop.. and a bit of geocaching. We had visited this interesting formation before but had not thought to pick up the earth cache. Well worth the short side trip to see this interesting piece of geology! Thanks micaparamedic.
Came up on the train from Melbourne today to spend a few days in Castlemaine. There really needs to be a big signpost to this amazing geological phenomenon. After a bit of brain strain worked this one out. tftc
I dipped my toe into the mysteries of dip and strike and hope I’ve struck it lucky. Thanks to recent instruction from the helpful CO. I looked with more understanding than would otherwise be the case. TFTC cache and the discussion micaparamedic
TFTC. We have Ben to Castlemaine many times and visited this site. It is also a way-ain’t for one of the multis in town. We have often bemoaned the fact that there is no app for iOS that will measure the strike and dip like there is on Android. We had a discussion with the CO at QGOM and got a great lesson in geology. We were also given permission to log this earthcache. Thanks micaparamedic for the detailed explanation.
Really interesting spot. Fascinating rock formation.
Have no idea how to go about this. Gave it a go and got the answers completely wrong. Lucking the CO believed I was here and gave me the answers, but still have no idea how they work.
TFTC though, the rock formation is brilliant.

After the nearby event, I headed into town to find coffee and breakfast. I had spent my spare time this past week solving the 3 puzzle caches in the area, so I was determined to find them while I was here as well as a few others nearby.
It is indeed a lovely anticline fold. Measurements taken and a surprisingly fast approval from the CO. I do like an earthcache that gets me to do something different.
Many thanks to micaparamedic for the cache. TNLN.

We had been past this formation plenty of times whilst driving through Castlemaine, but never had time to stop and figure this one out. Well, today we did and it must have looked pretty weird to anyone driving by. Three adults standing next to a wall, trying to figure out where on earth to out our phones... We had our story downpat though. We were totally going to be geology students if anyone stopped to ask us about our unusual behaviour!

Spent a few days over the Easter long weekend with the family in Castlemaine and Bendigo. Having been out early Saturday morning to grab a few caches I swung past this one as I headed back to where we were staying. As often with caching it led me to a very interesting feature that I wouldn't otherwise have seen. I even came back later in the day with my wife to show her the fold. I have struggled in the past with strike and dip at another earth cache but I examined what I found and took plenty of photos for reference. I submitted my answers to the CO who promptly replied with permission to log. My eighth cache on a pleasant Saturday morning before heading back to our family holiday activities. Thanks for the earth cache micaparamedic and for bringing me here. This one earns a favourite point from me.

On a well earned break in Castlemaine and I’m spending the time just touring the whole area, enjoying the sites and picking up caches as I go.
This was a great example of a anticlinal fold formation.
I must admit I had no idea of what dip and strike meant.
Measured what I thought was right and messaged the CO.

Visiting from Sweden with daughter living in Melbourne. It turned out that all sorts of events going on in Castlemaine this Sunday - artists' market, farmers' market, open gardens, etc. Nice surprises all! We spent our time taking in the history and contemporary culture of the area - this included the stories told through some geocaches in and out of town.
It felt right to start with this geological feature, a remarkable anticline on full display. Here I had reason to learn a for me new measuring technique, so thanks for that! My measurement is sent off, so now I'm just hoping for the best!

This was one of the first earthcaches we ever visited, back in our early caching days. Back then, the concept of measuring and answering the questions was too daunting, so we admired the rather striking (pardon the pun) geological feature and moved on.
Fast forward a couple of years later and the CO has since become a dear geo-friend. During some of our fun times together there have been a couple of tutorials on strike and dip at other locations. And we no longer find earthcaches daunting, but rather we now find them very exciting.
So while travelling through the area on our way back from our big Barcaldine trip, it made sense to finally revisit, measure up, and log this cache.
Thank you for this interesting and remarkable earthcache micaparamedic. A fantastic learning experience and a favourite from us.

I’ve been teaching my Y9 Science classes about plate tectonics and volcanoes and rocks under stress. It’s great to see such a clear example of an anticline fold. Cheers! Wasn’t quite sure how to take the measurements but have given it a go.

Having just arrived home yesterday evening after an 8 day trip away[|)], today it was time to head to Ballarat as Cybergran V had wanted to a ride to attend wozzle68's 50th birthday celebration.
Harry managed to find a tree branch while reversing and gave himself an injury: the rear window on the canopy shattered [xx(] at the 2nd cache find for the weekend and yet by the time this was discovered at Castlemaine, many kilometres later, nothing had fallen out of the gaping hole! Whew!! [^]
Cardboard and duct tape saved the day/weekend!
Answers were verbally given and discussed with CO at the birthday event
After attending the birthday celebration tea leafotwind, Rex and I headed out doing some caches until late in the night then after a good rest thanks to an extra room at leafotwind's accommodation (which was hugely appreciated [:X]), the next day we attended the breakfast event and then (after Cybergran V rejoined us) we headed out to claim some challenge caches accompanied for a short time by both Mrs and Mr Riddell
With the last cache of the 29 cache finds found at 6pm on the 5th, it was time for the drive back to Shepparton, having attended 2 events and only having 1 DNF and 1 Write note on a challenge cache that I do not yet meet.
As I am about 8 months behind in logging, I'm resorting to template logs to catch up.
My heartfelt thanks to the COs who have placed some tricky, funny, exercise required, scary, interesting and devious caches in some amazing spots! [^]
Rex and I have had some amazing adventures and enjoyed some incredible moments thanks to this fantastic hobby

While heading to Ballarat to attend a special event, we stopped in Castlemaine to do a few caches, and this Earthcache.
We estimated our answers and sent them off to the CO.
What an amazing piece of geology, and a favourite point given.
Many thanks for placing this EarthCache, micaparamedic.

I was surprised to see this amazing feature so close to the road. Whilst I was taking photos and guesstimating the angles, locus cache was busily downloading a protractor app on her phone, and then doing much more scientifically accurate calculations, which met with the approval of the cache owner.
Thankyou for granting us permission to log this unusual formation.

Doc dug his Dad's old protractor out of storage to make the measurements, because somehow it seemed more 'fitting' to make the measurement using a 100 year old instrument than to use an 'App' on a mobile phone. Must have got it near enough to right, because we got the nod from micaparamedic.
Having really entered the spirit of things we found an arched footbridge at the Botanical Gardens, so Doc measured it's dip and strike too. Reputation sealed.

Found in the company of 6hinemoa2 and 08151605. Certainly an interesting piece of geology here. A local newspaper writer ventured over whilst we were here and asked if we were geologists. LOL. He is writing a piece on it and wanted to know if we had any info so we referred him to your cache page. Thanks for highlighting this interesting feature.
Answers have been submitted by sorceysal on behalf of o8151605 and me for this EC. Located this fabulous site with sorceysal and 08151605. We were amazed at the geology. Something I had never seen before. We even had a local playwright come over while we were discussing our answers. He asked us questions about the site as he was thinking of incorporating it into his next play.
Thanks for the geology lesson and the chance to take note of something I had never noticed before micaparamedic

With a day off work, I joined Na'wal for a day of geocaching. With an early morning start, it was a chilly start to the day. The temperature hovered around 11 degrees for most of the day. We had a few periods of light rain, but it didn't dampen our spirits. A good mix of cache types and hides were our reward for the day.
This was a fascinating piece of geology right on the side of a busy road. Once we had a good look we set about gathering some answers. Thanks to the generous CO for allowing us to log this cache. TFTEC micaparamedic

I love an Earth Cache and was most interested in this one in what seemed like an unusual location. We parked right at the co-ords and I was surprised to see such a great example here. Thanks for the information given and allowing us to log this one even though we made a slight error in what to do here
**Thanks to micaparamedic for creating this Earth Cache at this location for us to discover and enjoy**

Visiting the Castlemaine area with Pacman and Bentley Parker.
Have visited this one before and decided was too hard so came back with a compass and app. Pretty complicated but in the end managed to get some answers! Thanks for the lesson on Dip and Strikes!

Out and about today with the youngest geokid (LukeSistema) and we decided to cache in and around Castlemaine. We stopped here and learnt about something new (never heard of dip/strike before). Answers have been sent - thanks for the geology lesson. Over100 EC finds and none like this so adding a fav!
Passed the feature on our travels , sent off the required information and received the ok from the CO

We were on a Car Rally from Melbourne to Sydney, and today we stopped for lunch at the Old Gaol in Castlemaine - fascinating.
We then also realised there was this nice cache nearby, so had to go and see it.
Really enjoying our time in the old 'Gold Rush' areas and learning so much about the history.
Mme LB was once keen on doing geology with the Physics degree, but this was the first time either of us have come across dip & strike, so this was indeed a challenge, and hope the answers we send are vaguely acceptable.

Found this one about a week ago and sent answers to CO. haven’t heard anything so either that means it’s good or it’s not good. But thought I’d log it before I forget about it. Very interesting and something different. Tftc.
The mere mention of an anticline in Castlemaine had me excited
I've spent a lot of time in the Flinders Ranges of SA,
where the landscape has more folding than you can poke an ironing board at
But where could you hide such a massive geological feature in suburban Castlemaine ??
I soon found out !!
This anticline is tiny, teeny, incy wincy
So cute [^]
I quickly got to work studying this 'midget of the geological world'
Despite the narrowness of the folded rock,
the limbs are quite straight
So armed with me olde compass from university,
almost an antique now !!
I set about trying to remember how to measure dip 'n' strike
It didn't take much remembering
Or so I thought !!
I composed me answers and mailed them to the Cache Owner in an olde Sardine Tin.
But last night,
I was worried about me answers.
I knew I had the strike correct,
but did I miss something with the dip ??
The angle was right,
yet somehow I was worried that I had not specified the direction of dip correctly !!
I rationalised that we were dealing with the western limb of the anticline,
therefore the angle of dip must be westward
Stop worrying
OK !!
Using the right hand rule,
I may have got the strike wrong by 180 degrees
Sorry 'bout that

Out for a school holiday caching adventure to Castlemaine, Maldon and Bendigo area from Melbourne.
Lovely mild summers day today making for excellent caching weather.
Logged with permission - despite wrong answers -> micaparamedic has kindly offered to explain it to us when we next meet up at an event.
This was our fourth cache for the day.
Thanks for this Earthcache micaparamedic - it was really interesting.
Certainly we had never heard of an anticlinal fold before let alone seen one. Dip and strike similarly new concepts for us! We would never have found this feature if it wasn't for your earthcache. It's quite amazing at how semicircular the feature is.. it really doesn't look natural - it really looks man made!
I've since shown photos to muggle friends and relatives and they all find it hard to believe that it is natural not man made.
This was a really amazing earthcache and not something you expect to find in a rural town street . It gets a favourite from us (well eventually it will - we are currently 3 favourites in deficit, or rather four now - will add it to our "favourites owed " and pay up after we next visit our nearest powertrail!).

ps fave finally paid up 4/2/18

What a remarkable Earthcache this is! We were both amazed by the sight. The task also had us scrabbling through the house for my old school protractor. Thanks for this wonderful cache.

Oh my, I was certainly lucky being on a date whilst attempting this one....
Re: dips and strikes
We are talking dancing where the gent 'dips' the female, right? And we are talking 10 pin bowling where the aim of the game is to 'strike'?
Multiple apps downloaded as I REALLY wanted the date to go well.
I didn't intend to scare him off, but my foot work was out of sync with my partner's - I was more Tango , he was more Waltz .....so when I 'plunged', during the 'dip' I smacked my head on the vertical plane - OUCH!!

Our day started with a tour of Bendigo including breakfast - I had another sausage roll, my favorite "new" food. Then the car stopped, I looked out, and realized we were at this earthcache, which made me happy.
Once again on our way to the Melbourne area, we stopped for a few caches, and had dinner with friends I first met in South Africa. It was so good to see them again and introduce them to micaparamedic. Then it was off for a short night at Team Crackers' place before our very early morning flight to New Zealand.
My bucket list has been shortened recently. It had included visiting the Yukon and Northwest Territories, walking around Uluru, seeing some Australian outback, spotting a kangaroo on my own, and seeing the Sydney Opera House. Other desires that came true are riding a train on my 5th continent (Asia happens next February) and a photo of myself at the Tropic of Capricorn on my third, last possible, continent. Many dreams are coming true on what will be just under 3 months of traveling.
Thanks micaparamedic for making sure I saw and did everything I wanted to do - even things I forgot that I had mentioned.

Went to this one with Flaggys and DreamyDragon while on the way home from Bendigo. An interesting geography arc here. Tftec.
I was in the area doing a few of the new Team Ninja caches so after lunching at 'Togs' I set off up here to this impressive cutting where this rock formation lives.
I do not have a fancy phone and haven't owned a protractor since grade 5 so to get my answer in 'the ballpark' will do for me.
Thanks Gary for highlighting this almost 'world heritage' site

Travelling home after a day up working in Maryborough, a long day but I need a couple of caches to relax and break up the trip down the highway.
This is one weird rock face.

Suscoe is logging this Earth Cahce with the permission of the Cache Owner.
Suscoe was up in Castlemaine today enjoying a cloudy but mild summer's day catching up with the local caches.
We have emailed the CO with our answers to this Earth Cache.
What an interesting geological formation.
Thanks to micaparamedic for this rock based learning opportunity.
A great day out and this was one of the many stops that we made.
