The Rocks have been relocated.

26-Jul-24
Rocks relocated maybe?

07-Jul-24
The Rocks are no longer here. They have been moved to the Arboretum. All of the waypoints need to be adjusted

07-Jul-24
Logging this as a DNF until I find where the rocks have been moved to

04-Jun-24
Well, I've DNFed a few cache types over the years, although this is the first EarthCache to meet that fate!I was deliberating whether to tick off this EC today only to rock up and discover that the federation rocks have all disappeared! There's one pretty nice red rock left in their former location, although I couldn't derive any information from it.The last of the rocks were reportedly removed on May 30, so I've chosen to log a DNF as the answers couldn't possibly be collected here after that date.Hopefully I can visit them at the Arboretum when their exhibit opens "later in the year" (if the NRG's website is to be believed) although **this EC should probably be disabled until then**.Thanks for highlighting this collection nonetheless, Cankid!

I think I'm the last person to claim the earthcache at its current location before it moves to the Arboretum. Thanks Cankid

Day 5 of mogni and sir_spectre visit the ACT. Today was a mixed bag, old caches, letterbox, trad and wherigo and hunting letterboxes, more multies and stamping challenges as we passed and of course targetting favourite caches, oh and what everelse we happened upon. As per normal if a cache needed a bit of love, it got it. Lots of micro logsheets added today.Answers have been sent by sir_spectre.Thanks to Cankid from mogni RazzRed FaceBig Grin

Stopped here for morning tea and did the earth cache afterwards. That's a lot of wp's. answers sent. Logging with approval. 1st earthcache in the ACT for me.Found with Mogni. Myself and mogni are headed off to canberra on the " I missed the Capital GeoBash Mega " holiday, since last minute family problems came in to play and we had to adjust our plans by a few weeks. On the way over we targeted multi's, wherigo's and puzzles to make sure we had 25 in each or at least close to that total ( or more ) as possible, getting as many new New South Wales LGA's as possible, the 17th most favourite point NSW cache and every cache size in New South Wales. In the ACT it was getting 2 of the 5 oldest letterboxes, oldest wherigo in Australia, 2nd oldest earthcache ( with a side trip to get the oldest earthcache of course ), and ACT oldest cache too. I also hosted a CITO and planned on getting every different cache type i could and eevry different cache size as well. I also needed 9 more virtuals this trip to get my virtual count over 100. Finally canberra was far enough away from from house to complete the well aged well travelled cacher 0 to 1000 kms with a cache every 10 km's ( i only need 7 more caches to complete )Leaving the ACT it was going via Victoria to get there last active web cam cache and slowly getting a total of 20 finds in each LGA i passed through if i had enough time plus also hosting a CITO in Victoria as well. A busy 11 days. Trust me by the end of the holiday you would have thought the 6 meter ladder weighed more than 13 kg's to amount of times it was used or carried up hills or over creeks. If your cache was found with a broken container/lid it was replaced or if the log was full it was replaced or a extra log if the container was big enough ( except for nano's, do your own maintenance on nano's.

Such a cool location, easily earned a favorite point! This hands down is the coolest rock exhibit I've seen; I loved how they show the natural stone but then also a polished cross section. Attached is my favorite of the collection - brockman iron formation from Western Australia.

A super cool collection of rocks from around the country. Its amazing what a cut and polish will do for appearances. At Capital GeoBash with Tweety2 & Tilda241 and Tilda needed one more earth cache for her space hunt. That brought us here and it was an enjoyable earthcache. TFTC!

Thanks to Martini.989 for sending our answers through and to Tweety2 for the way points. Really interesting cache. The collection of rocks are all incredible histories of our ancient past.

September is Earth cache binge month for this Geo-battler, and gee whiz Im learning quite a lot about rocks! So good.Id been here once before but not looked too closely. The last day of our mini holiday we decided to take two hotel bicycles and cycle around the lake. ACT is loaded with geocaches and even during our ride around the lake my partner would not put up with me stopping at each single cache. So I picked up a few, but not all geocaches along the route.
An interesting, but tricky Earth Cache. The waypoints are close together, and on the path and not the rocks themselves. So that made it a challenge to understand which rocks were meant to be inspected.
Nevertheless an interesting collection!

TFTC Cankid.

With many a protester still lingering in this area (with a myriad of flags in tow and lots of interesting slogans written on nearby parked cars), opinions may be divided about various aspects of our federation, but one thing is for sure: these rocks certainly rock!

The diversity of all the geological objects highlighted by this earthcache is superb, in terms of various features: shape, size, colour, texture and many more! We loved learning about all their histories and unique elements, as well as spotting the various crystals and veins where relevant. Thanks for the fabulous and excellently educational journey Smile

In the spirit of reconciliation we would like to acknowledge the Traditional Custodians of country on which we geocache throughout Australia and their connections to land, sea and community. We (the pants people) pay our respects to their Elders past and present and extend that respect to all Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples today.

Visiting from Coffs Harbour.

I have never been to a rock garden before so I thought I would come and check it out.

It was interesting look and reading about the different rocks.

Favourite point given.

After a nice dog walk with the extended family in this part of the Arboretum I collected the needed information for this EC. What a perfect spot for an EC all these different rock formations.

Firstly, to anyone reading these logs, if you enjoyed this small collection of big rocks, could I recommend another gem (see what I did there ? Smile that isn’t terribly well known and take a trip south to Geoscience Australia off Hindmarsh Drive and take a look at their big collection of little rocks !! Although it might not be open until all this Covid stuff is over.

I first came out here 5+ years ago with a workmate - just a short lunchtime ride to look at them on recommendation from another workmate. Then I took my Mum to see them on one of her visits.

This time for Earthcache Day, and paid way more attention to them. I really do find rocks fascinating. Makes me wish I did more geology at school.

TFTC.

1st or 3 finds of the day, but will be out of order due to relogging to get points for the peaks challenge.

GHJ & poked around here for a good while collecting the answers and finding some new rocks not meant for the quiz Smile Several other folks were poking about too, but I don't think they were cachers. TFTEC Smile

I am catching up on logging finds from the weekend. I know that I have collected the answers to this cache before but as I can't find them I redid them today. Answers as best I can do are being sent to the CO. I am certainly not a geologist and found it difficult to answer some of the questions that I have answered very briefly , not in full sentence format as I probably should have. TFTC Cankid and I hope the answers are satisfactory.

In the middle of our ACT roadtrip for the year, and we have a 'rest day' in a sea of caches! The kids needed a bit of a breather, so we decided on a tree-climb and large container focus for the day, with assorted others thrown in here and there, for an enjoyable 18 finds.
It seems ages since we logged an EC, and this one was great - these really are special samples of iconic rocks. We weren't sure we were starting on the right one, but after a bit it seemed right. TFTC!

Out again on the geocycle today. Should hit a milestone find as well as signing a few challenges and attending my first ACT event. A few more caches on the "to do" list and a couple of ALs to finish too.

With my usual flair for zero preparation I arrived here with no concept of what was needed. So glad that I could look it up on my phone. I would have been out of luck relying only on the GPSr.

Answers sent to the CO. Earthcache #6 for the day, and a favourite point for showing me something that I had pedaled by at least twice already today and not even noticed.

Canberra Day 1: In my quest to complete all the Australian states, it would be remiss if I didn’t visit the fine city of Canberra. So, in the first leg of my journey through Australia, I made my way to Canberra by bus from Sydney. Flew into SYD this morning, before catching a Greyhound to the ACT. Picked up a fair number of caches today, a feat considering most of it was spent travelling between cities, but a good start to the adventure to come.

This is the specific log for this cache:
What fine specimens of rocks from all over Australia. I like what they have done to some of these, especially some that have been cut and polished to show the mineralization of the rock. I do hope something bigger becomes of these guys, they currently are quite lonely here. TFTEC!

Forgot to log this one and so catching up now.

Aquilus1 and I have been past these rocks many a time. We decided that we should finally do the earthcache.

We worked together, discussing the answers for the questions, before sending them to the CO.

Found 10:40 14/7/19 with TheTrueCornDogs on a very cold day. To make this cache even more enjoyable there was a geologist who was running a tour at GZ when we got there. On a Sunday cycle from home to around the Black Mountain peninsula, found a few caches on the way. Visited here many times, including the popular Tilly's beach close by. Quite a bit of discussion as to which rocks corresponded to which WP, given the additional rocks, and that some have moved.... but we got there in the end. Lovely to get up close to the rocks, they are so tactile. TFTC cankid

Hello Canberra - what a great place. Here for the MEGA AND THE NFF. Out on a mission and MTB on a lovely Easter Monday. My GPS was wandering and I think there are more rocks since this earthcache was created so I have answered the questions assuming particular rock positions and I took photos of each too. Having said that, I guess the spirit of earth caches is to visit remarkable and geologically interesting spots! We all maybe have favourites - mine was one of the limestones. Thanks

Great EC down here explored after completing the nearby AL. Although I couldn't appreciate the full impact of these rocks as I was here after dark I was treated to a display of burnouts by a couple of utes. I always thought the practice was a little silly, now I can confirm the opinion comes from personal observation.
