Out and about caching here around the South Island in our travels from Australia. Arrived at GZ and searched. cache found and log signed. TFTC
With a full day to cache around Ashburton and some lovely clear weather we had a wonderful time exploring. Thanks to the COs for placing the caches for us to discover.
Out and about finding a few more caches this fine morning. Last cache for me this morning. Although my GPS zero'd out a few metres away, the cache was found in the first place I checked as per the hint. TFTC, Biggles.
Back in Ashburton today and close to success in this month’s geocaching.com challenge, we decided to have another look for this one. Not sure how we missed it last time! Daylight makes a lot of difference as we spotted a hint object we hadn't seen in the dark last time, then found the cache immediately. All ok here, dropped off a TB and left the cache better covered. TFTC Kiwi Nomad.
We are picking off caches one at a time to (hopefully) achieve the latest geocaching.com challenge. We had limited time today, arriving just on dark and searching the obvious places but no joy here. We will put it on the watchlist and try again if we see other finds logged.
I can't believe we have never made the detour to this cache before, despite being here for nearly 10 years. We wanted a multi cache today, so we heading to the two in Westerfield Cemetery and this was a short detour.
Best to use the hint for this one as the GPSr had us elsewhere. Good to find a nice big container. Obvious from GZ what the cache name means. Now StreetWalkerNZ will have to put up with my singing "End of the Line". TFTC.

How interesting the history here. Yet another thing learned by geocaching! Cache in good nick and protected by yucky prickles! Thanks for the hide.

Well that serves me right for not checking straight away. Cache was in place and I could not see any damage, inside was all dry with original logbook in place. So not sure which cache last finder was referring to but it wasn't this one.
Now have a space cache made up at home.
Future finders do watch out for the dead guard thistle, it may be dead but the thorns still inflict injury.

This is still on my list of jobs to do. Unfortunately an important project that I was hoping to have signed off at the end of September has faced yet another set back and instead of having it signed off tomorrow it has been delayed yet again and looks like it won't happen for another two weeks. Another meeting to happen this morning regarding the completion date.
Found the cache and the last entry in the logbook was Bitsprayers one from 2018
Had a great weekend in Canterbury with a bit of time to grab the odd cache. Many Thanks Bitsprayer
In order to preserve all my Christchurch unfounds for cache raids (a personal challenge to change the colour of my daily finds on GC.com) over the next three months I decided that it would be best to travel out of town to pick up some Ashburton caches as it would also enable me to check on the success of my recent modifications to my caravan..
After setting up camp it was time to find that one cache that I needed today. This cache had been staring at me for some while, so I decided to get it out of my unfound list. A short drive and ... wallah! A nice quick find. Just what I like. Thanks for the cache Kiwi Nomad

Good hiding spot. This was our 4th find today. We looked in a few spots before we found the hidden container. TFTC.

Heading home after a fun weekend in Christchurch and a few planned stops along the way to help me with my goal of getting to #3000 by the end of the year. Picked up trackable TFTC
This our second visit to this cache asin January 2018 we dropped off several TBs. Again on holiday from UK visiting family here in Ashburton, I have another TB wishing to travel here in New Zealand. So it has an extra 12,000 miles from all the way from Pitlochry, Scotland. This is a great cache and big enough to be a comfortable TB hotel. Wishing this little TB a wonderful time here.
Park and... nope.
Between the farmer on his tractor watching me as he plowed and the electric fence that was clearly on (I could hear it shorting out on the weeds) I wasn't game to have a proper look. I'll try again when the muggle eyes aren't looking.

A quick easy find of a cache full of ferret TBs from England. We took one to start its journey. TFTC

Visiting from England and staying in Ashburton. We have been before to see the Plains Railway and then took the opportunity to do some caches. The ones we tried on site some time ago, seem to have been removed so really pleased to find this one. We had already spent the day travelling several times on the diesel train. This was a nice find. Lots of swag, so let our two grandsons select an item each and good ole me (Grampy) put a couple of new items into the swag and also released 9 x TBs. Basically the TBs are a group of friends - Ferrets - with a mission to get ack to England but will be pleased to travel anywhere. If you get the opportunity to read up the Mission and Description of the "Ferrets", you will get to see what we as friends are all about. It will be great if geocachers take one or more at a time. We did this mass exercise before in October 2013 when 8 TBs with a similar generic name were released in Poland, Europe. Anyway, many thanks to the cach owner for setting this one up. SL TFTC
had to find this one today as it was a dot day found nice and easy all perfect condition tftc kiwi nomad
I had another opportunity to get to Ashburton after work and go around while the boys were training!! Pity it was late and dark, but I should not complain Great to be able to find a few caches!!! It did feel like the end of the line here, almost like the end of the world, especially in the middle of the night... TFTC!!
I remember the old cache, wandering across the paddock and hunting around the platform. Time today to give this one a go, a bit of a hunt around to find the well guarded cache. Cheers for that, no trains today though.
Had just found and logged the cache & returned it, when I looked up and saw a rail car parked on the line!!!Just hope they weren't watching, hopefully I was too crouched. Anyway, TFTC and what a lovely big container too.
Decided to do this one with Geo Jessie after getting Hells Bells down the road, we enjoy caching on Christmas day - less muggle activity! Thanks for the interesting bit of history and TFTC.
Came out with Geomum to do this one (much quieter on Christmas day!). After the GPS jumped around a bit we read the hint and the cache was found soon after that.
TFTC!

Looks strange finishing just like that looking quite uncompleted. Great to find another larger cache here. TFTC #8950
Holidaying with tmann421 and collecting some caches along the way. Really enjoying this lovely part of the country.

Headed out this evening for a Mad Mission Monday with Team_Gaters and we did a lot of work on Thompsons Track, replaced, repaired and fixed up 20 odd caches and by the end of the evening we clocked up almost 250km! We had a laugh as we checked out some old logs from last year and almost did the exact same thing with finishing off Thompsons Track and heading into Ashburton to do some caches and ended up with a FTF or two as well. We were heading into town to see if a puzzle was still up for a FTF and stopped by a few before the prize. Coords a bit off but quick find.
Thanks for the cache Kiwi Nomad.

Rather strange seeing the tracks just end with no station. Cache found quickly with no farmers in sight to hinder the search today.
Haven't been out caching in the evening so much of late - figured tonight was as nicer night as any, and decided to grab a few down Ashburton way.
Paddock opposite waaaaaaay busy (now 1040pm) with tractors, harvesters and trucks.....6 or 8 of them barreling around the fields....
Quickly cornered the cache. Cheers.

RuruNZ out of the car first to retrieve and as she was logging the find, I took out the food item that was in there and disposed of it. What was even better was almost being muggled by the farmer as I was doing a U turn he needed to stop at the gate on his tractor while I reversed so as not to end up in a ditch on other side of road. Looks like the hay shed is going to get filled with what he had on there. Gave him a wave as we headed back down the road looking as if we were lost travellers and hopefully not guilty of just being near his property.
This should also finally be my 1500th cache. Yes I know a bit slow at getting there but thanks for it being this one.

Out on a run to Ashburton with KCN for the Waitangi Day event - we ended up with 17 smilies for the day.
The cache was a quick find - and just in time too as we were nearly muggled by the farmer who gave us one of those looks as we did a u-turn right outside his gate.
Didn't see any railway - but only looked at the webpage once I got home.

I have had a ride in the Rail Car from the Plains Museum to here. My Dad spent many enjoyable hours helping restore the train.
Found with Crinklypear5. I broke my phone Thursday so all my caches now are done manual ie looking it up and taking a snapshot of the location and info and also writing info down.
This was a nice quick find, I spotted it as soon as we got out of the car. Tftc!

Spotted as soon as we got out of the car. Loved the idea behind this. With Mizcupcake
TFTC! We drove down for the weekend to stay in Orari and play in the Fairlie snow. We've cached our way up today towards home and this was the last - the kids wanted to hit 120 finds. Brilliant for them, safe and easy find with a decent container, they swapped for themselves and added more to it. Great weather watch spot too!
Easy Find, our first of the day. Not sure why we have never found it before. Left travel bug. I wonder if they will turn that railway line into a cycle/walk way.
Today's trip started before dawn and finished well after dark, first cache found 7:30am, last cache found 10:20pm. It was roughly 280km in total; from Christchurch to Rakaia, west on Thompsons Track, finding all but a couple of the power trail, south at Ashburton Forks, then through Ashburton to the sea side of SH1 around Willowby for a few more, then a straight shot back up SH1 to Christchurch. Highlights of the day were finding the caches in and around the Ashburton River and the river crossings involved, as well as the total number found for the day, a whopping 104, biggest day so far - by far! This is of course thanks in most part to Old Boots - cheers! Lowlight of the day would have to be, after a day of sunshine, the hail and sleet closing in while I was south of Ashburton, combined with the wind and now darkness, it was a good excuse to call it a day! TFTC (1993)
More ways than one. Found with Moneydork on a road trip during his visit to NZ TFTC
This cache was one of 350 found on a short trip back to New Zealand, which was principally organised so that I could attend my Great Grandmother's 100th birthday.
I have a great time and enjoyed a great variety of caches, most of which were new (ie published in the past couple of years ).
Thanks for all the great caches.

Great spot tricky to grab due to gorse bush but nonetheless great location. Tftc
We had to bike for ages into the wind but we found one of those bugs in it so we moved it on
Nice to find a B I G Container, you don't see many of them back in Christchurch.Sadly a Possum didn't make it back to his home that day!..TFTH
The cache was in the open so l place it back in the correct place and covered it up. TFTH
Not a train trip today - rather a trip back in time. With a bit of imagination I was able to work out where the line would have run.
Thanks
