Find #: 3,588Companions: jejmsMuggles: NoneWeather: Lovely autumn afternoonCache condition: GoodWe were out for a regular bushwalk and chose the Long Trail. The track was fairly busy with many MTB'ers and joggers (although no horses), given the perfect autumn weather and that many MTB tracks are closed due to the recent rain, but there was no one around when we got near GZ. At first the lad stayed near the track while I went for the find (TNLNSL), but when I returned he wanted to find it too, so we headed back. He signed the log and replaced the container, but a bit too enthusiastically so we needed to retrieve it and put it back in a friendlier spot. TFTC
Exploring the area as I try to expand my VeloViewer Explorer score.Figured I would collect the two traditionals on my journey.Busy on the trail today - a mix of hikers and bikers, some with electric assistance.Nice view down the end. Good spot for lunch.
Great spot, thanks for the cache. Enjoyed the hint Cache is in good condition.

After recent rains there was quite a lot of water on the approach track. We got to the track junction and faced the decision as to which cache to try for first. Chose Long, and followed the hoofprints on the easy track. Arrived at GZ, found the cache, signed - and when replacing it in its position it fell further back than it should have been; from here it would have been really hard to spot. We mounted a rescue mission, quite a tricky job, but we were eventually able to replace it in an appropriate position. We really enjoyed the walk, and the views! A fav from us. TFTC!
Nice hike out here for some great views, lots to see and explore. Quite a busy place today, people nestled everywhere soaking up the views.

This felt like avenging a DNF because the last time I walked out to Peach Trees was about a week or two before I started geocaching. Needing to get out for a walk in nature I made a late afternoon decision to try for this and Cowan. A relatively easy find after striking out in what I was certain was the right spot. The views of Cowan Creek are great for the soul. TFTC.
Wasn't planning to do any today. Pen in cache not working. TFTC. PS I have photos if owner needs them
Found after struggling to get the GPS to point me in the right direction. I lost my pen by the time I had ridden to here but took a photo if CO wants. Lovely views again, and a nice track to bike on. TFTC!

Some pretty steep and dangerous drops here. Hard to know what is acceptable to traverse in search of this. In the end, I decided it was too dangerous with the potential fall off a cliff to continue searching.
Bike riding along Perimeter and Long Trail on a lovely sunny day. Fairly easy find, thank you Tyreless for replacing the Long geocache.

Bike riding on Long Trail, second attempt to find this geocache, searched thoroughly, no luck. Based on the last find, wondering if Long geocache is long gone. At least it was a nice bike ride.
after founded Cowan cache we decided to carry on for the Long cache. Again the walk is very nice with few lookouts and mountain bikers !
At GZ we were disappointed. We looked everywhere. Under rocks, looked in all holes. After 30min we left GZ without the smile. We have to come back, maybe with a bike !

Came out this way to do one many moons ago because the trail seems familiar. That cache is long gone, so decided to get some exercise and grab this one instead.
Light rain on the long walk in, but heavy rain on the way out made it less than ideal, but at least I'm not getting sunburned.
Great views before the cache location, at the cache location and at the end of the trail too, where I was sure to also visit.
Plenty of mountain bike riders going back and forth through the rain.
Thanks for the cache!

One of my closest to home, ATKF, finally put to bed. PPE wanted a walk and today was perfect for it, heavily overcast and with a cool breeze. We explored the area looking for the cache and discovered we'd been standing on thin, hollow rock for much of the time. I looked under every overhang near GZ while PPE went to lower altitudes. We risked getting grumpy but finally went several metres north where PPE spotted the cover.
Thanks Tyreless - great location.

Back after our non attempt 2 days ago with Baby J Man.
Walked past the Cowan gate and got within 200m of the cache when we spotted an awesome view.
Continued to the cache and saw and even better view. This cache took the longest to find out of the 3 in the NP (probably because we didn't spot the hint item).
Spotted a cool cave under GZ which would've been an awesome spot for the cache but the cache was in a equally nice spot. Cache is in good condition.
Finished the track and saw the best yet view then walked back to the car - 2 hours and 15 mins total.
Once again thanks Tyreless - I think this one also deserves a favourite - but only once I sort out my FP defecit.

Came here to knock off the final Duffy's Forest NP cache.
Made our way up the Long Track while it was drizzling, however just before the Cowan turnoff experienced some heavier rain which forced us to turn around.
Will be back soon

Amazed it been so long since this one has been found. Got here after picking up Cowen. Wonderful views were the reward for this pleasant walk. Thanks for bringing us here.
Today, with the kids at school and the chief puzzle solver on school canteen duty, I headed out on a solo mission to find four of the slightly more remote caches in Ku-ring-gai Chase National Park. This was the 2nd find of the day.
After finding "Ryland Riddle" I drove over to Duffy's Forest for the group of three "official" National Park caches. Parked the geomobile at the recommended parking spot **S33° 39.796 E151° 11.390**, and then headed off along the Perimeter Trail on foot, deciding to leave the mountain bike in the geomobile for these three caches. At the junction **S33° 39.579 E151° 11.576**, I took the left branch (the Long Trail) and followed this all the way to GZ, passing some interesting rock formations and nice views along the way.
Soon arrived at GZ and, after checking in a couple of spots, saw a suspicious pile of natural camo. And after a bit of rearranging, it was CIH. TNLNSL, and then replaced as found. Took a photo of the lovely view down to Cowan Creek, before backtracking along the Long Trail toward the next cache.
Thanks Tyreless for the nice bush walk, and for the "official" National Parks cache placement.

Visited the cache today (tri-annual check-up per NPWS requirements). Cache is in good shape.
Checked up on the cache today - nice cool day for a walk with my boys (if you can call a 21-year-old a boy). All good.

I have had my eye on the Wilkins, Long, Cowan trio for some time as they are all within my 10km radius although its closer to 30km via road. With a beautiful summers day forecast, I headed off with the mountain bike on the rack, parking in Bulara St.
After Wilkins, I followed the trail back to the Long turn off and headed out to ... Long. With plenty of loose sand on the trail, I certainly needed to keep concentrating on where I was going rather than enjoying the view. There was a great viewing area a few hundred meters before GZ and I had to stop and enjoy. Also some nice rock formations just before GZ. At GZ I searched for quite some time. The clue and iPhone had me searching some distance from where I eventually found the container. I enjoy a bit of rock hopping and there were plenty of nooks and crannies to investigate. I more or less stumbled onto the hide while having fun exploring.
Of course I had to continue to the end of the track and the views are definitely worth the extra few hundred meters. While soaking in the views across Cowan Creek, I was joined by another mountain biker (although I don't think they were here for geoCaching). Taking some photos and checking my emails, I saw a mystery cache had just been published closer to home - bad timing as I still had Cowan on my todo list.
Thanks for bringing me here and placing the cache in the national park.

A great location. So nice to do a lovely bush walk and pick up a cache in a scenic location as a bonus. Took us about 2.5 hours to do the whole walk and the view from the end of the track is definitely worth going the short distance extra. Cache search was fairly quick based on the hint and the terrain rating. Thanks Tyreless for showing us this area.
Checked up on the cache whilst out exploring off the Long Trail. Took me a while to find it - some camo has been added since I originally hid it - so I have bumped up the difficulty a little. The cache is in good shape.
after a brief search and a slightly cranky GPSr we had CIH. SL and moved on to the end of Long Track for the amazing view reward. TFTC
On a Sunday morning the perfect destination was a good ol' bushwalk. We've been saving this one for a day when we had plenty of time to meander and explore, though the walk was actually quite a bit shorter than we originally expected.
We all enjoyed the pleasant if a bit nippy weather as we strolled to and from the cache, the entire journey taking us around two and a half hours, much to our surprise (we weren't rushing and even stopped for a relaxing snack break at the viewpoint at the end of the walk). That didn't seem like 12kms!
The cache was found without too much trouble by geomum after consulting the hint. We took in the beautiful view (might even be nicer a few hundred metres earlier - but both are superb) then headed to the end of the walk and back to the car.
There may be some photo uploads eventually.
This cache leaves one (non-adopted) cache of Tyreless's left for us to find. Thanks so much for another excellent half day adventure.

We were originally headed to Lovett Bay but the gate to West Head Road was closed today for some unknown reason - Anzac Day after a lot of storms - perhaps there was a rockfall and/or a tree or two down. No sign though. Continued on the Akuna Bay Road but nothing of interest so decided to head down to familiar territory and finally tick this one off. Knew exactly where to start the trek as we'd been here half a dozen times on trig hunts and for the other caches.
I used to think this was quite a walk but in the past year having taken to longer walks it's now just a stroll in the park. No significant hills but lots of water on the track and a few cyclist plus steaming piles to avoid. Got there in good time and searched, and searched, and searched until finally geoteen made the find using the hint not the coords which seemed about 12m off. Didn't use the GPSr so won't vouch for that. Explored the honeycombed cave which was where I expected the find and quite a few other spot. Great views here but the water is very muddy post rain. Signed and replaced.
On the way back about 150m or so along the track we returned to a stone fort we'd helped fortify a couple of years ago and enjoyed adding some more rocks for old times' sake.
Total number of steps for the walk was about 11500.
Thanks!

Just had to keep going after finding Cowan while the legs held out. It was worth it for the view and sense of accomplishment. It's worth continuing on to the end of the Long Track for the fantastic views of Cowan Creek. Thanks for the cache Tyreless.

After suffering "Micro Hell" yesterday, decided I was after quality today. So I targeted a number of bush caches, only one of which was a micro.
Found the lot, grabbed another micro on the way home, but ran out of time to grab one. And one of the finds was a new Hidden Month.
* * * END OF CUT AND PASTE SECTION * * *
On arrival at the designated parking spot, I suspected my target of all three of Tyreless' caches here was a bit optimistic.
I'd looked at the sky and checked the BOM Radar - which showed a heavy rain band on the other side of the Blue Mountains. So, I decided to go for Long and Cowan and evaluate Wilkins as I went.
Started out to this cache, being the farthest. With my external battery for the iPhone, decided I had plenty of energy to burn and could break out the music without compromising my ability to use the app (mind you I had the Magellan with me as well).
Pleasant walk out, with some great views and one bicyclist passing me. Arrived at GZ and had an inkling where the hide was as I watched the coordinates settle.
Checked a few other spots first, but knew it would be where I did indeed find it.
Completed signing duties and replaced. Checked the Radar - still good. And I still had good phone/net coverage. That's a surprise.

Mrs A has not been on her Mtn Bike for a while so with geokids with cousins we took the op to tackle some of our "nearby" caches...Wilkins, Long and Cowan, just the two of us. These are only 4km away but required quite a drive around to get to the start point. The bike option looked to be a good one that would allow us to pick up all three locations in the time available. Parked at the end of Bulara St. and peddled off. Returned with 3 smilies about 3 hours later.
These tracks are fantastic for mountain bikes. For the most part flat easy riding on the top of the plateau with only a few rocky sections and few hills (except perhaps for Cowan-see that log for detail...Ambos were called ... but not for us).
After Wilkins we took the right hand turn up the Long track. This track also great for bike riding. A little way along Mrs A heard some rustling and we stopped to see a nice lace monitor scurry up a tree, a little further a wallaby bounded off the track. Some great views along the way, stopped in a few places. At GZ GPS took a little while to make up its mind but when it said 3 m we spotted a now familiar style of container and pulled a pristine log book out for signing, then returned it. Nice view across the waters to Mt Kuring gai and Berowra. Saw another goanna on the way back to the junction with Cowan track.
Thanks for placing. Will add a favourite point when one comes up to cover all three. Have left the trigs for another day.

Nice cache location. On the way out to pick up 6x trig stations in a day. Success all round. Many thanks to Tyreless.
On a crazy mission to find Six trigs in day - but using minimal tracks, we approached Long Trig. We hit the track a bit before it which was handy as this nice cache was right nearby to find. TFTC, great views out here
Found on a glorious spring day - There were plenty of bikes and horses on the track today but they all seemed to be just going there and getting back - I could not but help stopping to take in the beauty of this wonderful area. I did, however, forget to check the new coords before heading off on the trail and as a consequence I overshot the mark by quite some distance. This proved to be a good thing, as the views further along the trail are truly spectacular and worth the climb up the steepest slope encountered, which I might have baulked at if I had found the cache first and then said 'I wonder what is around the next corner'...
Thanks for another excuse to get out and about Tyreless - Hides like this are always a favourite -
New coords were spot on and I sat like royalty for quite some time drinking in the view and the general loveliness of the creek below.

After completing "Cowan" we returned whence we came to the Long fire trail which as far as the mountain bikers are concerned is the principal track hereabouts. Encountered quite a number on the way out and back. The walking along these fire trails is quite easy with very little up and down. Filtered views here and there and at this time of year there are quite a lot of wildflowers coming out. Espied the odd early waratah as well. A lovely open rocky area at the cache locale with nice views o'er the valleys and ridges. We continued on out to the end of the fire trail to the lookout before returning to the cache area for a spot of lunch. Another very good cache - thanks Tyreless.

Thank you Tyreless, I do love a bush walk and this is a lovely one. Nice and mostly level and good to get a few km's into the legs. Good cache and in great condition - nice and dry and very very clean. Nothing in it (as per requirements) - TNLN SL

Found without GPS - spotted the rocky doors and new it must be in there! Great view at the end of the track too!
I reckon pretty much every cacher who finds more than a couple hundred becomes very interested (obsessed ?) with at least one statistic. My main concern currently is trying not to 'beat' my longest slump. It was getting dangerously close, but I had saved these caches for exactly this eventuality
Had the opportunity for a longer lunch, so came out and had a very pleasant jog along the tracks. Saw some potential Scarbrainy places near GZ, but I'm sure NPWS were quite restrictive as to how far off the track you could be

Found with CJ this morning whilst out on our calendar gap chase cache which took us down to Duffys Forest and Cowan.
There are a few new ones that we haven't done around here and it was great to chase these down and get them off the nearby list. Today the weather was perfect for a stroll down Cwoan and Long tracks, through the Kuringgai Chase National Park. It was nice after so much recent rain. CJ both quickly spotted the cache just off the track at the GZ. The coords and the hint were excellent. We soon had the cache in hand for signing duties. The container is in good nick and the log is dry. We signed and replaced it exactly as we found it.
It was a great day for a walk and of course finding another cache Thanks Tyreless for another your caches. We enjoyed the walk. SL TNLN TFTC

Left the geo-crew at home and headed out on the bike on a grey and showery Sunday afternoon for the trilogy of Tyreless caches. An easy find (all good at GZ) then it was back a hundred metres of so to enjoy the view as I have previously been to the end of the trail on the bike. Many thanks Tyreless for a most enjoyable ouiting.
29/03/14. 08:42 AM. Cache #1415. Glad to see a break from the rain today; it was nice and cool and just right for a bushwalk. It's 8 weeks or so since I found Wilkins, so time to come back for the others - the plan was to find Long and then see if I still had time after that to look for Cowan.
Plenty of big puddles on the track, some of which covered the entire track and required some big detouring to avoid wet feet. Apart from that, it was easy going, with a few cyclists whizzing past. To save time, I jogged more of it than I walked - great morning for clearing the cobwebs. Finally, I made it to GZ and after a short search, found the cache.
I then worked out that I should have plenty of time to find Cowan, but it didn't look like I could just make a beeline for it (about 900m apart) because that way involved a big descent and ascent with a big gully in between. So I needed to head back south east to the start of the Cowan track. But first things first - I continued along the Long track a little further and found the Long GCA trig, and then on the way back towards the Cowan track, I also found the Roach GCA trig, or what was left of it. On a glorious morning, just a tad too warm, geoson and I took our bikes down this trail. It was a pleasant ride with only a couple of slippery bits. We took our time and a few others passed us by on their way down the trail. We found the cache in good nick right where the GPSr said it would be. Then we went a few metres off the trail on the other side where we sat down to have a drink, count the trees, discuss the movie Local Hero and take a photo.
Thanks for the great idea Tyreless - a favourite experience. And TFTC

Today seemed like a good day to get out and do this trio of new caches in the KCNP. Hopped on the bike and rode on out, quickly getting to gz. There's a lovely rock a few hundred metres before gz that gives great views, but the views from gz are pretty good also. Plenty of mountain bikes on the track this morning. Thanks Tyreless.
The distance between this cache and “Cowan” must have been a bit shorter than that between “Wilkins” and “Cowan” as it took me less than 50 minutes. The Long Trail is obviously popular with cyclists as I saw three during my trek in and out. These and the two horse riders I saw earlier were the only people I encountered in the more than three hours I was walking the trails.
The track I recorded on my GPSr indicates that, in picking up the three caches, I walked a total of 15.5 km.
Thanks once again Tyreless, I’ll sleep well tonight.

What a great morning for a stroll along these level trails. Made my way to GZ, with perfect coords and the hint, I soon had CIH, better still an FTF Yay...!
