A quick grab during a short break on the vintage train ride from Kawakawa.Log is totally wet and it is not possible to remove it from its container without damaging it. Therefore we couldn't sign it, picture is attached instead.TFTC!
2557. We loaded the bikes on the trailer to finally cycle from Kawakawa to Opua but sadly this is now the end of the line with a large fence and do not enter signs blocking the cyclepath. At least we got out for a ride as a family and could make this find. TFT(station)C.
Day 2 of our Northland road trip. Biking from Kaikohe to Opua and loving it. A beautiful day and time for a few caches but not all of them. Took a few minutes to find the cache here and the train arrived in that time. My pen wasnt working very well so I managed to write the date then 59, replaced the paper in the log, quickly placed the cache back and ran for the train - phew! TFTC
Found this one during our historic train ride on the last day of our holiday. Thankfully the muggles were all trying to take photos of the train rather than notice what I was up to
Our Advent calendar sent us geocaching today. Unfortunately we didn't find this cache, checked every Mori sign we could find and couldn't see anything. Checked the bbqs and picnic tables too.
We took a short detour and walked to see the station - the banner there explains why this section of the bike trail is closed. So it was a coal town!
No cache anywhere on the sign - think it has chugged off down the tracks with some curious child.

Would you believe just as I was walking into get cache, the train arrived. Was able to listen to the tour information from the train guide. Sounds like the Kawakawa scenic railway has great plans in place to extend their tour to Opua, thanks to a$5,000,000 govt. grant facilitated by Shane Jones. MP
Took the train to this station and quickly found before the muggers noticed. TFGC
Found on start of a long weekend of biking. Pen not working, so will return to sign log ASAP. Tnln-tries to sign log. Tftc!!!
Quick and easy even though a train just pulled in as we arrived on our bikes. TFTC
Lovely to see this one in place, I've placed a few like this and they kept walking. So great to see then can stay put. TFTC. Very thankful I picked this one up quickly as just after I replaced it, along came a little train.
Nice spot to take a small break on the second half of the second day of the cycle trail to Opua, and finding a GC is a nice bonus. TFTC
Decided tonight was a good night for a bike ride to collect the 3 caches I didn't get last time. This one was found with a little looking. Skimmed over the storyboards but then read a post about another location. Hunted there but no luck. Went back to the original hint and found in plain sight. Quite a nice bridge to ride over. TFTC, cache #350.
Took us awhile is now hidden where you cook your food..try moving things around to reveal it hint: concrete
Been meaning to do this small section of rail trail so close to home. We rode from Kawakawa to Opua and back. We had a great lunch at the marina cafe in Opua before heading back. We picked up most of the caches except 2 which we will log as dnf. We rechecked these when heading back. Thanks for the geocache trail. This one was an easy find once we brushed off the cobwebs. TFTC 727
Initially we took the train to this cache and examined the hint item for a wee while without even realising that there may have been a cache there! On our way back, I had a fleeting thought that perhaps there was a geocache there and on checking the app, bingo I was right! Luckily we were passing by the crossing on our way back in the car so pulled over and took a short walk to tick this one off our list
We checked out the BOIVR for the 1:15pm trip to here and back, and whilst we were stopped at this station, didn't realise there was even a cache here so totally oblivious, took the train back without a find. Oops. We realised out mistake hours later and parked up at the crossing and wandered back down the path to make this find
Behind one of the signs near the seating area theres a little magnet with a little roll of paper where you can sign it and stick it back behind the sign and it's really easy to find
Found this one quickly and easily while doing the cycle track today! Let’s hope we can find the others on the way home!!
Found after reading the clue. First time I’ve found this type of cache container, didn’t see it first look. TFTC
On the second day continuing on the TCCT along this railway track. A fav. pt for this cute little station and the care it's been given.
Quick find at this lovely little station. Listening to an interesting talk by the train staff. TFTC
Gosh it's taken me a couple of years to get this one. As the station has been under construction. Quick find and a nice stroll for Mt fur baby Nice to get sneer for this day. Tftc
Nice find while in the area with tmann421 today
Enjoying the trip north and the caches

Nice find with woolwood9 today.
*We enjoyed the drive / walk around the area.*
Stamped logs as tm/ww NZ which may just look like a black smudge on plastic logs!
TFTC
*Nice walk to the cache here, no-one around but obviously a busy spot with all the tables.*

Really nice find to finish a great day riding the trail in this area. Lovely area. Tftc

On my way back from Whangarei needed to stretch my legs and there is no better reason to do so to search for a cache

Nice and interesting place to have a look around. Wouldn't have come here without the cache. TFTC!
Train pulled in soon after signing the log, got a free history talk on the area! Keep up with the splendid work and future plans...TFT

Took the train ride, got some interesting history. Lovely little excursion, thanks. Cache in good spirits!
Lovely place for a rest in the shade with peace and then muggles everywhere when the train arrived. Found two caches for the price if one. One at the recent hint spot and another at the original hint spot.
I'm from Switzerland and spend 4 months in New Zealand on vacation. Found this cache quickly, thanks.
Found it today. What a nice train trip with our kids and grandchildren. Thanks for the cache.
We dropped Zara off in Kawakawa and jumped into Toby to get us around Kawakawa.
Drove back here and parked by railway to walk into this station. Great place to visit. Alls quiet today. This one is AWOL so we arrange a replacement to keep it rolling along. Cheers
Saturday - day fifteen - Leaving Kerikeri today for Whangarei , with the whole team on board.
Its another epic 3+ week geocaching adventure with The Seagnoid, Zara, Toby and William to the Far North. What an amazing place to explore. Lots of walks, gravel roads and sand. Lots of amazing trees, beaches and interesting POIs. Lots of kilometers traveled by vehicle and foot. Vehicle breakdowns, making new friends and catching up with old friends and family. Snagged a couple of FTF's, lots of lonely caches and the odd event along the way. Lots of cache maintenance and replaced caches on this trip. But what an incredible adventure!!. Thanks to all the CO's who have made this trip so memorable..

Taybeedragon parked Toby near the railway crossing and we walked in. THIS PLACE IS AWESOME! Reminds me of a little English railway. I guess I love railway caches, which is lucky as I have placed 80 caches at railway stations in the Manawatu and Marlborough. I just love how (shudder) quaint this station is. Get a favourite. Arrghhh! No it doesn't!! CO has since moved the cache and updated the hint, which is fine, but updated the hint in the log, rather than in the cache hint, which is not. Oh well. Maybe next time.
Day fifteen of an awesome, tiring, long, three week holiday geocaching with Taybeedragon in the upper north. Today: Paihia and Whangarei. The whole trip comprised of hours of walking on sand, sliding down sand dunes, hundreds of kilometres of unsealed roads, car breakdowns, paddling out to islands, lighthouses, dolphins, goats, events, FTFs, weird boulders. You name it, we saw it. Lots of bisons, lots of cache maintenance, lots of sunscreen. A month is enough. I am glad to be back home. Except that now I have to write up my trip. We averaged just 20 caches per day, but that is still a lot of logging!
Merry Christmas from the Seagnoid!

Heading north today to attend the event in Paihia and with an hour to spare, thought I should head along the cycle trail to get the two along here that are still greenies on the map. I arrived here at the Taumarere Station to find a train there and 30 muggles learning about the local history.
So, with no chance for this one on the way in, I carried on cycling along to the sidetracked one and then turned around and came back here. The inlet looked quite nice today with the tide right in.
Back at the station the big group of muggles were gone, but there were still some other cyclists who had stopped for a lunch break. Luckily they were far enough away and paid little attention as I read the information signs and retrieved the small cache. Signed the log and then replaced safe and secure as found, before heading back to the car and on to Paihia. TFTC

In Northland for the Christmas hols and making the most of the fine weather. Doing the cycle trail along with small family member, so just delighted for an easy find here and to catch up on a cache we couldn't look for last time we were here because the bridge had been closed. Even more delighted to find that one of our local Tauranga members had replaced this cache. Thanks McJandals, you made our day. Thank you too Russell School for placing caches in interesting places.
Doing the cycle trail with McJandals. A stinking hot day, nice to have a wee rest under the trees.
On A road trip with Dee+ME from Tauranga. Have been having a poke around here and there and been taken to some great places, many thanks to all you COs for your placements. Today we are cycling from Opua to Kaikohe and caching along the way. It’s an absolute stunner of a day. This trail has seemed to have turned into a maintenance run. In light of all the DNFs decided to replace this cache. Had a nano with me and moved to new sign. NEW HINT. TE REO. If CO wants to remove it and my log, please do so. Cheers.
Hunted hi and low after train left the station with all muggles aboard no no could find
Nice day for biking, we discover the cycle track. There is some muggles on tables and we must to wait the return for log that cache.

We were hoping to catch the train to Kawakawa, and although our timing was good, after waiting 20 minutes for train not to arrive. Another phone confirmed it probably was not going to come, due to no passengers?
A quick find of the cache with the hint - thanks for the hide. We need to get back on those bikes

Up here on holiday. Enjoyed the walk to GZ. Nice hide. Interesting reading signs about the railway line and watching the work being done to extend the line. Will be great when it's finished. Thanks RussellSchool.
#2696 Out on a rode from Opua and back and had forgotten that there was still a cache here that I hadn't got a smiley for until we were peddling across the bridge. A lovely bonus to our stop before turning around and heading back. TFTC - such a neat spot here.
Grabbed this while doing the cycle trail. Easy find only after checking the hint! TFTC
Quick park up and a walk beside the tracks. Grainger and Hazel help us out nicely. TFTC.

We had to get to the railway station on foot. The station was deserted. No train was waiting here. We looked into station building through the narrow hole. I sat down on the bench and before I could read the listing, Kacenka was behind the fence and reported that found the box. We examined the brake that prevented from entering the bridge and returned to the car.
Thanks for the cache.

Finally got this one. Had to negotiate my way around the fence but once there it was a quick easy find. TFTC.
Riding the TCCT from Opua. A steam train was just tooting and departing as we arrived. We found the hint sign and looked around thoroughly. If the fence has to be climbed to reach it this is no longer possible - a high netting fence has been added to the picket fence. In the end we had to ride on without claiming this one.
We took a nice walk in here in the blazing sunshine and had the trail to ourselves, well apart from a couple of cyclists who were waiting for dad - we never did pass him, I wonder what happened to him, and a steam train of course. Got to watch the steam train in action which was great, but no so good when it stopped at the station and dumped its load of muggles out to play on the railroad bridge. Wasted too much time waiting for them to leave. The picnic area suffers from a lack of use I suspect and I should be very surprised if much construction has gone on in the last six months.
Eventually the cleared out with a toot, toot, and I slipped behind the fence and after looking in a couple of wrong spots found the cache. Thanks for placing, fun to see to see the train running.

Yay we found this one! We have had two DNFs recently and we suspect that at least one of them may have been present, so after the previous person's DNF this is a happy find.
Quick leg stretch before heading back to Auckland.
Work doesn't really seem to progress here.

Out for a days geocaching road trip with mr tikitour, Vistra and Pageheart. travelling around the mid north and into Puketi forest. What a great day, weather was good, great company , lunch on a deck overlooking the beautiful Tapeka point and not a DNF today.....we signed the log in variations of TPV to save space and time.
This one was an extra challenge as we had to find the right spot to get to GZ !!! but cache all good and dry. An interesting bit of history. I look forward to coming back when the cycleway is reopened and doing the whole trip. TFTC

I was up in Whangarei for the long weekend and today joined up with tikitour and PageHeart for an all day road trip around Russell, Waitangi, Kerikeri and the outskirts of Puketi Forest. It was a great day out with great company, lots of caches found and pleasingly not a single DNF! We mostly signed the logs with some variation of TPV for our caching names.
We wandered along the railway line to the station, found a way through the fence and soon found the cache when looking from a different angle. TFTC!

I returned in the hopes of tracking this cache down this time. Walked in from the rugby grounds and it started to bucket down! The train was leaving as I approached the station and then I had the place to myself. Had a decent fossick around but couldn't find the cache- found the hint this visit though. I'll pop this one on my watchlist.
