Day 42 of our Enzed adventures with Robmc and today the fellas rode the first part of the Timber Trail while Lady Morris rested at the Lodge.Interesting spot and the cache was a quick find thanks to the hint - all dry and intact. Thanks for contributing to an amazing holiday.
Day forty two of our epic New Zealand Adventure with The Morris. Our first day on the Timber Trail. Started about 10am and rode to about 1pmback to the lodge. We only did a couple of caches on the trail.Looked for the cache before we stopped for lunch.A nice quick find. Thanks, Robmc.
Finally get to do this amazing cycle trail. Camped up at Piro Piro campsite and got a shuttle. Fabulous day for it. Started chilly and now beautiful sunshine. Awesome country side. Many thanks for sharing a cache here. Definitely gone and people have left their rubbish here. Have replaced with a camoed pill container behind a rock in end of log. (Happy to delete if owner wants)
Mountain biking along the timber trail as i continue along the long pathway, Te Araroa, and this spot looked perfect for a snack/meal break and to sit still for a while. Of course it may not be a coincidence that this location also happened to have a geocache hidden in the vicinity. It took me a bit of probing but soon enough managed to made the find and get my name in the log.I also grabbed the trackable contained in the stash to get it moving again after more than 300 days lonely on the mountain, wasn't keen on carrying extra weight but I guess I am a soft touch. My thanks to the cache owner edvern for hiding one here and making my day more fun. Good to give this lonely ca he a hug too. Cheers.-- This log is trackable ! ---- Feel free to discover ---- Please mention, in which cache you've seen this code: ---- 3TABQX --
Great spot! Gosh, I’m loving this adventure. Many thanks for the placement. A little damp but waterproof paper does the job. Dropped off a trackable- will add details later on when back in coverage
Quick find, drained it of water. Bit of a slog getting here from piropiro, hopefully easier going back! Tftc
After a misty and cool start to the Timber Trail the sun finally appeared just before I reached the bridge here. So I made the most of it, after signing the soggy log sheet, by having a short lay down. This gave the cache a bit of time to dry out, as I watched a family of California quail wander about the clearing. TFTC
SPOILER ALERT;
Not sure if this one has drifted over time, but it was more end of log than back of log.

The shortest day of the year and it was time to do the northern end of the trail. A great bridge tftc
This looks like a really good spot to stop at, but we still had quite a few kms left to go. Nice little cache in great condition. TFTC
Thanks edvern for placing this cache
It was here we caught-up with Tim, Bobby and Amy who are walking the TA... they had set up camp here and Tim was sitting on top of the cache!
We had seen them exiting Bog Inn as we were abandoning our bikes to tramp in.
They are inspirational people and I hope they come to stay when they pass thru my neck of the woods.
We kept overtaking each other as we were stopping for caches and to duck down side trails here and there ...

Day 39? Of my TA adventure and my second day on the trail..awesome scenery , heavy rain last night made going a bit slower but the thought of pizza at the lodge for lunch kept me going..

Nice quick find while waiting for the toilet. Picked up the TB to take on its journey
I agree with a recent visitor and changed the terrain rating to 4. A bit puzzled by the recent FTF!!
#1036. Day 53 walking the Te Araroa trail and the 34th cache I found along the way. I'm surprised that it's a T5... I didn't need any special equipment to find it, but I'll take it! Dropped off a TB.
We walked half the Timber Trail today and the other half the next day. Thanks for the cache! [Here is a link to my Te Araroa blog post for today](http://teararoa.g2.co.nz/2019/11/19/day-53-pureora-to-piropiro-campsite/) if anyone is interested!

A quick find here. Container had water in it. Drained it as best that I could. The log was nice and dry in a second container. Lovely place for a stop. Lay in the grass for a while and enjoyed the sun and not being on the bike! Tftc
After having lunch at bog inn bridge the next stop was to be here mainly because of this cache and on a previous visit noticed they also had toilets.
As you would imagine the lazE bikes were off and of course arrived here first and then Rattll with myself bringing up the rear only after dropping my chain so I had to dismount and pick it backup, then we were off and going again catching Rattll at the bridge.
On arrival at the toilets we were directed to the cache location but we still had some work to retrieve the container as Rattll was unsure if it was safe to bend down to grab the container it was I that was responsible for the retraction of the said container.
With the log signed and replaced as found it was back on the bikes and not far to the camp now for rest and relaxation.
Thanks for the cache and the smiley, cache and contents in very good condition

The team (other than watcache, who was diligently trailing along behind me) were once again waiting here for me to catch up. No amount of effort on my part would get them to just go on and leave me to the circling buzzards. Also my lack of attendance at church had obviously put me out of favour, as my constant prayers that their batteries would run out were falling on deaf ears.
They sat there in the sun, munching on their energy snacks looking as refreshed and energetic as they had at the beginning of the day and just pointed us in the direction of the cache.
Ok I know where it is, but that would require me bending over, or kneeling and with serious risk that I would never recover from this additional movement, I lingered and let watcache make the find.
After signing duties were completed I made use of the facilities, snacked, rehydrated and continued on. By this stage all that was going through my mind were conjuring up ways of evening the play field by sabotaging or in some way disabling those battery driven metal demons. Actually some of the plans contemplated were really quite evil, of which I am not proud, the only saving grace was that I didn't have the energy to carry any of them out. So I just watched helplessly as they flew past, with a their cheery smiles and encouraging comments.
Thanks for placing this here edvern it provided a much needed reason to stop.

A friend and I headed South to ride the Timber Trail over Queen's Birthday weekend. We were very lucky with the weather, considering that the days before and after our ride were terrible! The weather was nice and fine, although quite chilly and frosty in the mornings. All in all it was a fun ride and a good challenge for us relatively inexperienced mountain bikers! Parked the bikes by the hint item and made a quick find of the cache here. TFTC!
Quick find while riding the timber trail. And a good excuse to get off the bike to give my backside a rest
A quick stop while doing the timber trail. Stunning day but am looking forward to getting to the end! TFTC
Stopped here for a short rest while walking the Te Araroa Trail. Quick find. TFTC
Riding the Timber Trail for my second time, so pleased to have the opportunity to check this one out. In good order thanks to some generous maintenance by TNXPro, it was in good condition. I replaced the log book (waterproof paper) and put it in a pill bottle inside the sistema container. Hopefully this will avoid the past problems of getting wet.
Thanks to TNXPro this cache is fully operational again. Done in the true spirit of geocaching.
After a great night at the Piropiro campsite with the family we wanted to head down to Harrisons creek on the bikes. A bit of a slog to this cache, it's been a while since we've done any serious distance. Found the cache and stopped for a bite to eat before heading back to the car. Much easier on the way back more downhill!
Find number 4731. After a couple nights at the camp I decided to have a look for this one before heading home. Managed to drive to the last place the Timber Trail left the road. On the way I met MorganEd who turned around to join me. The 3 of us walked in. It took longer than what we thought. Along the way we met HKCB who had cycled in with the family to collect the cache. Later we heard a strange noise which gave us a fright until we realized it was a phone going off. 1 spot of coverage. When we got to GZ there were 2 vehicles parked there. They were locals who had a key to the gate and were involved with maintenance in the area. Sat and talked to them Thankfully they knew about geocaching so we were able to grab before they left and they offered to give us a ride back to the ride. We did not turn it down. Along with a cyclist who arrive with a broken bike we piled into or onto the utes. Thank you to them for that.
Cache itself was easily found in good condition. Thank you for the placement.

Decided to get one last cache before heading home second long walk for the day joined with the delightful company of two other catchers started the walk chatted with another catcher on his way back and carried on nearly there and jumped with fright as my phone suddenly got reception and did the haka carried on to cache to find a 4wd at gz bugga we could have driven not walked I thought lol not even was the locals in charge of pest control after a short chat they offered us a ride back to our car as polite as I am I just couldn't say no fantastic aroha and happy caching
This is what turns out to be an epic adventure for me.
A work mate of mine had made noises about attacking the mighty Timber Trail and I was super keen to come along too. At the time he mentioned it some weeks ago, I was unfit and didn't own a decent bike, but I was still keen.
As luck will have it, I found a really good bike for sale and I bought it immediately.
Now for my fitness. I had to start riding it now, to familiarise myself with a full suspension bike. A handful of rides later and here we are, at the start of what will be the longest and most spectacular rides of my lifetime.
With accommodation and shuttle booked only a few days earlier (apparently we were very lucky getting some at late notice), we left Tauranga at 4 am to allow for any unforeseen mishaps along the way. Turns out we had none, so we arrived an hour early for our shuttle ride to the far end or the start of the trail.
After a huge climb at the start, we really enjoyed the downhills and were able to make up time for previous stops. Everyone that had passed up earlier while we were taking a break or changing a bike tube, we managed to pass on the way down again.
The suspension bridges were really works or engineering art and of course we had to stop for photos.
My muggle biking companion talked with another couple from Tauranga, while I found the cache. I had read previous logs mention it was very wet, so I had brought along a new log with waterproof paper in a new baggie. I gave the inside of the original container a wipe to remove most of the moisture also and re-used it, so the cache should now last a long time again and CO can now clear the needs maintenance attribute.
Thanks for bringing me here.

P.S. The trail was spectacular.

Found during hiking Te Araroa trail. The cache was really wet, I only did a picture. Thank you for a nice cache
Sorry to hear that this cache has become very wet and is realistically out of action. As I don't expect to visit this one for a while I hope another geocacher might bring in a new container and log book with them. Otherwise I will have to archive this one.
Out on the Timber trail with fanfan-77.... to be honest caching is not on my mind as I'm hot tired and a bit saddle sore. Stopped here for a short break (the creek looks inviting) but we just used the loo, had a snack a drink and more sun screen. Very wet inside i.e full of water. Nice spot though. TFTC
Sveppi and I are attempting the Timber Trail with a group of friends on bikes. Parked at Ongarue end and got shuttled to Pureora, with a stopover planned halfway. Turns out we haven't trained and after the first day we didn't feel up to the second day and pegged out, opted for a rest day instead.
Anyways, 3/4 of the way through the first day we had yet another break, this time at Harrison's creek. I remember bagging the FTF on this one very well, way back on Christmas day 2013. So almost 5 years to the day I find it again, mostly to allow sveppi to log the find. Unfortunately (and predictably), time in the elements has not done this one any favours. The container was full of water and long un-writeable. I have found that sistemas go leaky after 3-4 years out there. I am now trialling putting silicone in the seal which seems to be working so far (although most of the refurbished caches haven't been out for 4 years yet).
Anyways, couldn't sign but defenitely found. Let dry a bit in the sun for a few minutes as we ate a snack and re-applied sunscreen, but this one needs proper maintenance if it wants to remain a nice cache to find.

enjoying the ride and some impressive bridges . nice views as well. welcome excuse for a short stop. all ready had lunch .. please take your rubbish with you. lots found before we found the cache .
Awesome weekend riding the Timber Trail. Thank goodness for the shelter for our lunch stop. TFTC
Eventually got to the place where we were suppose to have lunch. Had lunch serveral hours ago. It has been raining most of the day so it was a short stop here to use the toilets. Fantastic mountain bike track, windy and smooth.
Riding the timber trail, getting left in the dust by the other riders doing it today, including some muggles i introduced to GC. Cache was quickly in hand.

Was here on the TA
Pen is not working, so I tried to "scratch" our names.
Bring a pen!

Stopped here on the first day of riding the trail for a fry-up of bacon, sizzlers and onions on bread with tomato sauce. As an added bonus there was a cache which was easily found thinks to the hint.
First day cycling the Timber trail. Only two logs at the GZ, so found this cache pretty quickly - although we did mistake a few huge black fungi for the cache! TFTC.
a rather wet 2 day ride on the trail with an overnight stop at Blackfern Lodge. Was great to see a Blue Duck family metres form the accommodation.
On our awesome two day mountain bike adventure along the timber trail, we stopped at this cache. Really impressive trail and wonderful nature. We loved every bit of it.

Logged this last year on the 24 Jan as a dnf. Plenty of battery power this time and with 2 sets of eyes had gc in hand quickly. Great riding weather over the top, cloudy with a cool breeze then clearing as the trip continued.
Not visited often In reasonable condition but a bit damp so needs a good airing some time Sorry not the time to do it today Tftc
One of the many caches we found on our campervan journey from Lower Hutt to Tauranga. A mighty and enjoyable journey through many great and iconic parts of the north island. Many thanks to the many CO's for the great cache placements and for bringing us to new places. Found as we cycled along the timber trail. TFTC. Sorry for the generic log.
Found while cycling the Timber Trail. This is indeed a good spot to stop from lunch. TFTC
On the trail today working my way along the first part with my father as part of his 70th Birthday Present.
I think that he is doing this far easier than I am but am definitely pleased to get to this one.
What a trail with some magnificent views and riding to be had, just wish I wasn't quite so knackered after such a busy 3 weeks f both work and caching
Thanks for the placement

Found in pouring rain. Not a good day on the trail. One rider helicoptered out. TFTC
Nice point to have another swig of water and spend a few minutes to look for a cache. Found it in the end but not before having a heap of biddi bids attaching themselves to me!. Some big blackberry canes developing at one end of the log too. TFTC
Came in from piro piro camp on our bikes it was a good easy ride back many thanks
whilst travelling with 2 Bulbars doing the timber trail we stopped to get these caches.
Got to the shelter and fired up the trusty GPS only to find the batteries flat with no spares.
Looked in what I thought would be obvious places but no luck.
Will just have to do the ride again sometime.
Great ride.

Had fun racing through this trail... and then realised I had passed the cache! Needless to say, I had to cycle some extra distance to retrieve and then carry on. TFTC
After all the effort of getting here with lilywyte a couple of cyclists in the area was not going to stop us from finding the cache. A sit down near the clue soon had the cache in hand. TFTC
Got to the cache in almost double the doc time from Pureora carpark. This was mainly because of the heavy snow (4 inches) on top of Mt Pureora. My apologies for the bad handwriting in the log, my fingers were so freezing I couldn't hold the pen properly!!
Merry Christmas! With all our families overseas, I had planned on us visiting the Rotorua mtb trails for a short ride today. But yesterday partner said "what about we make a day of it, go to Benneydale and try and find your geocache again?". Well that was a surprise, as he's not as keen a geocacher as I am, so I was up for that! (you see I had tried to do this 2 weeks ago, but never realised how far out of the way this place was. I wouldn't have had time to get it in the time we had, so I took the FTF at the campsite and turned back).
It was raining hard when we got up, but the forecast was for the weather to clear. There were 4 groups at the campsite, but we had the trail to ourselves. It rained on us only once, for about 15 minutes. We saw what I believe was a cuckoo as well as all the usual birds. Also a nice hind and a couple of pigs.
We are not super fit and are riding old-ish bikes, so we took our time and cruised to Harrison's creek in 1h40. Cache was in the obvious spot, and as expected, we got the FTF!!
The trail is nice but we were glad is was overcast and windy, because there are quite a few open areas and in the sumer sun it probably would have been unbearably hot!
We have left the other cache unfound (not quite fit enough to tackle another climb after we returned!), so the FTF is still up for grabs on this one. Parther said in the car on the way back "well if they don't hurry up and get it, we might just come back in a few weeks and get that one too!"

Oh, I was in Mangakino when I saw that was published, but I didn't have my mountain bike with me, bugger!
