After dropping the car at the panel beaters, I cycled home along the Hauraki Rail Trail, so nabbed a few caches as I went. A bit of hunting required for this one. TFTC.
What a nice adventure to walk through the tunnel on a nice family outing. The cache here was a nice add on and quickly found. Thanks for hiding and maintaining. All nice and dry here. Tftc
Away for the weekend to ride a section of the Hauraki Rail Trail from Waihi. This afforded me the opportunity to snag some caches en route. A few options which matched the title but with my GPS not settling and no hint I left empty handed after checking all the likely locations Thanks vectis#5073Logged using Cachly.
Brand new dry and beautiful log, we were first to sign this new one. Agree with an earlier finder. Walk both ways. Try a different point of view . TFTC
What a nice trail to bike and find some caches.
Logbook is very wet. Too wet to write on.

TaurusSix and I are in New Zealand for a three weeks holiday. We love New Zealand and have had lots of wonderful experiences here previously. This time we have decided to focus our attention on three destinations for one week each, all in the North Island. The Coromandel Peninsula, Waiheke Island and The Bay of Isles. We are very mindful of not focusing all our attention of the holiday on geocaching, however it will still play an important part. We are deliberately focusing on caches that involve some walking, great views, interesting attractions , history and general points of interest. And this will all happen in between exploring, swimming , walking, doing touristy things and relaxing .

Day 6 - We are now based for the next little while at Pauanui on the Coromandel Peninsula. Today was a big day we set off quite early and explored Paeroa before heading to Karangahake Gorge and undertaking the full return walk to Waikino- Victoria Battery. It took about one hour to get to Paeroa and it was a nice drive at that time of day as the sun was rising , it was definitely a good example of the “land of the long white cloud” as we made our way through the mountains. Once at Paeroa we explored the town in the best possible way by undertaking the three Adventure Labs that are there. The third one being the legendary L and P one which finished at the L and P cafe where we had a lovely brunch . Next we parked up at the beginning of Karangahake Gorge ready for our big adventure. Along the way we also walked back and forward through the tunnel, checked out one of the waterfalls, explored the old gold town and industrial operations at waikino, really enjoyed the walk and collected all up 14 geocaches and 2 Adventure Labs. Total caches for day 17 traditional, multi, virtual and questions and 25 Adventure Lab elements. Great day all round.

This is our eighth cache find of the day along with several Adventure Labs. This one took longer than it should gps was playing up so it had us all over for a while in the end it was geosenses that found it. Thanks for the cache vectis

We were staying at Waihi Beach for the long weekend and wanted to return to the HRT to find a few unfound caches. After a short search cache was located. TFTC.
A quick find after rejoining the HRT! The walkway really is a walkway & difficult to bike!!! TFTC
Apologies but completed these caches a few weeks ago and forgot to log them. Completed with Keylev.TFTC
Back on the trail again today as we make our way to Waihi.
I got dropped off further along and back tracked to pick up a couple more caches, then doubled back again.
No problems making the find here.
Thanks for putting it here

Took a few goes to find this one but got there. Filling in some gaps in the area today
A nice quick find, when looking from a different direction! thanks.
Ms_KR and I are off on a wee tour of the North Island. The weather was mostly dry today, a bonus. We cruised from Waihi Beach to Paeroa, me on the bike down the HRT trail. A really nice bike ride.
Thanks to all CO's for publishing and maintaining their caches. Cheers.

Heading from Paeroa to Waihi and back again on the HRT today, we collected a few caches along the way. We found this part of the trail to be very popular, and it is not hard to see why as this is a very scenic part of the HR trail.
We had just overtaken a slow group of cyclists on our approach to gz where we stopped to find the cache. A quick find here in an obvious place, but then we had to overtake the slow cyclists again Grrrrrrrrrrrr

Heading up to Northland to meet the kids for the Christmas holidays. Had time to walk part of the HRT trail with the geohound. This was not where I initially thought it would be but was very close by. Lots of lovely flowers along the trail edge although I know they are technically weeds. Very hot so ended up having a swim at the end. Thanks for the smiley.
GPS was all over the place but we found it. The name of the cache helped a lot. TFTC
Hasn’t been found for a while. We checked all the hint items without success. Given this is a pretty busy trail it may have gone
The Hauraki Rail Trail is closed while the Covid 19 rahui is in place. Anyone geocaching during this time is putting themselves and others at risk by handling the containers, stash and logs. So this cache is disabled until this present emergency ends. I reserve the right to disable any logs dated after the lockdown started.
Glad I had grabbed my GPS out of the car before heading down this section of the trail, as my cell phone was completely useless along here. Checked a couple of possible places and somehow missed it on my first pass. No matter the track is quiet today and no muggles to avoid during my search, soon found the nice hide, cheers
New Zealand we are back again.
Hoping to find some caches at secret or interesting locations we walk at the HRT series.
Thanks to vectis for hiding and maintaining.

This was my pre-determined turn-around point so it was gratifying to make another find. Tftc
Found during my third visit on HRT. This time most beautiful section. Section C: Paeroa to Waihi. This time 46km on my bike. Enjoyed so much!
Took a bit longer but no problems.

Todays mission was to ride from Waihi to Waikino. We went a bit further on towards Karangahake in the end. 23.8 km return. We made many finds and a few DNF's. We replaced 1 cache with CO permission but didn't have anything else with us for the other DNF's we came across. We met up with a buddy cacher "Tramyard" at the waterfall and met again on our return journeys. Great to meet another cacher on the journey. We found the first part of the track a little challenging with the the up and down portions of the track, but after that the track became very pleasant to ride. A lovely sunny day with lots of fellow riders and walkers on the trail today. Our last cache on the trail today. Found after a short search. a nice part of the trail along here. Thanks for placing caches to make our journey so enjoyable.. SL. TFTC.
We used the "Where would we hide the cache?" method with this one and found it immediately. TFTC.
We got our caching off to a decent start here today following on from our DNF at the previous one. Given the cache name and lack of any other hint, we frisked a couple of wrong places first before finding it elsewhere. TFTC!
Find # 2869. Spending a second day exploring the trails and tracks of the Karangahake Gorge; and finding the odd cache. This one really annoyed me cos’ there was no hint given (as with most of the caches in this series, which is really annoying when you are short on time, or there are any number of hiding places, or the coordinates point you out into the river!), and going by the title, you look around all the old rails. But no, it’s in a tree! Really! TFTC
A sunny Easter Monday and was able to give the dogs a bit of a walk to stretch their legs before the journey home. We got as far as this cache before turning around. TFTC (and extending the walk by another 600m or so).
Nice cache - expected something different... was so close but hubby found it!!
Kiwis69 and myself are doing the HRT the long, yet less painful way. We have done one section previous and it was decided that it was time to tackle another chunk of the trail. We picked to cycle from Waihi - Paeroa as there was a slight time restraint, plus it was the shorter option and I was worried since it had been awhile since I had some serious seat time. All up it took us 4.5hr (which included a lot of hunting at some caches and a few breaks)
Once we had the cars sorted, and then the bikes sorted it was time to hit the trail. The weather forecast was average today and we hoped that would keep the muggles away. Well there were still quite a few muggles out and about but not as bad as it could be so we managed to time our hunting inbetween people passing by.
Had to time the hunt around people here but thankfully I stumbled upon the hide quickly
Thanks for the hides and giving us some welcome breather stops!

It's nearly 4 years to the day since our usual caching cronies cycled the HRT trail but without 11hpg11 & myself being part of that group. Today, its finally our turn! Thanks heaps for keeping the HRT series going. Cycling the Waihi - Paeroa section today & really enjoying it. Soon spotted the likely hiding spots here, and another nice quick find, TFTC
Yep, same 13 Scouts and still on our way to Dicky's Flat, the day before the big storm of Jan 18.
Second of the day and curiously this one didn't have a hint but was a much faster find for us. Love this trail, TFTC
I'm travelling around NZ for 7 weeks, using geocaching as my guide-book. I'm glad geocaching took me to Waihi, I wasn't planning to stay here, but driving through the Karangahake Gorge last night made me want to explore more. Today I rented a bike and biked the beautiful trail from Waihi to the gorge and back. Thank you for placing all these caches along the way, otherwise I wouldn't have tought of this. I rented a bike for half a day (5 hours), so I didn't have time to find all the caches, but I got to see a lot, and I did the windows-walk. It was a beautiful day!

Headed over this way to do part of the trail sadly the weather is crap but happy to continue. Thanks so much for the smiles was still a great day.
Great views and a cool tunnel too.

On a mission with fellow cacher, Dee+ME. A great winters day for a bike ride along this fabulous track, fantastic history in the area, this one had us going a bit, nice hide, all good here, many thanks for bringing us here. Cheers.
Read too much into the name. Back and forth a couple of times....

We thought this was a great stretch of cycle track ... the log sheet was wet, so we replaced it with a strip of waterproof paper, and added a ziplock bag too. TFTC.
After planning a trip to the bay of plenty for easter to gather a cache or two, it changed dramatically (we thought) when we heard that cyclone cook was about to bear down on this area our hopes had dropped .
But no almost the complete opposite, so after getting bike and body sorted it was to the start we went and ride the HRT trail, we started in thames and the plan was to ride to te aroha if the body allowed.
Nice quick find here exactly where and how it should be.
Thanks for the smiley and the placement.

Cycling toward Paeroa on a great sunny day ...nice quick find here nice placement ...thanks Vectis for a great cache
Busy on the trail today, another beautiful spot along the river. Thanks for the hide
Out with Rustynz, Out playing on the bike with friends and Family having a fun time in the sun TFTC
Biking from Paeroa to Waihi and caching along the way. GPSr put me on the other side of the path, but after looking around there and not finding anything, I checked the other side, and soon found an old rail. Soon after that I found the cache. Thanks for the hide!
Came for a very enjoyable bike ride here this morning, starting at Karangahake and going through the tunnel, along as far as the Victoria Battery, and back again. Found this one without any problems. Signed log, TFTC.
Bit of a crack at some of the HRT today. Could have been better organised and planned, but managed a few caches as part of the cycling adventure. This was one of them.
A reasonably straightforward find.
The log was not in such good shape - which was a feature of a number of the caches found today on the HRT.
Log signed; cache re-hidden safely, just as found.
TFTC found with team cacher Sweet P too
The Turtle strikes again!

Earlier in the year, tikitour and I decided we would team up and cycle the whole Hauraki Rail Trail over the long Easter weekend and look for all the caches along the way. On Good Friday we did the Thames to Paeroa leg and yesterday we did the Te Aroha to Paeroa leg. Today we left the best till last and did the final leg from Waihi to Paeroa. It was another lovely day today and this section of the trail was a whole lot busier than the other 2, but we didn't have too many troubles with muggles. It was lovely cycling through here and I would come back and do it again. Soon found this cache along the way. The log was fairly damp, so we replaced it with a new one. TFTC!

Day 3 of our cycling weekend and this was the best of the three days...fantastic track with lovely views, ups and down, great bridges , historical sites to visit, amazing tunnel and of course caches to find. It was a day of great variety, riding and walking. We cycled down from where we were staying in Waihi and we picked up a few along the way. Thanks for the placement of all the caches.
We had a laugh when we saw the last name on the log - we know PottyPete from geo-camping events in the UK! Fairly quick find and very quick signing as it was pelting it down by now.
Greetings from the UK!

*Busy area for a ride with Potty pete to clean up,the area. Nice area for a ride*
We were out on our bikes by 8 this morning to ride the Hauraki bike trail from Waihi to Paeroa, with a little detour to do the Karangahake Windows Walk (which meant we missed going through the 1 km tunnel). It was a perfect day for it, no wind, cloudy and not too hot. A great ride with wonderful scenery as well as the history lessons along the way.
Overshot GZ, and had to back track but the co-ords were good so didn't take long to find. We signed the temporary log book. TFTC.

After a great ride down from Waihi and exploring the old rail tunnel then goldmine tunnels, finding a few caches was a bonus. Just grabbed a few to have on the list rather han doing the fll powertrail this time. TFTC!

tftc. We enjoyed reading about the history of the area while logging the cache after having a good day out on the bikes with friends.
Plan today was to ride from Waihi to Paeroa, stay overnight and cycle back the next day. There were 6 in our group (4 geocachers and 2 understanding muggles) A&JKiwis went as far as the train station before turning back and it was great to have some caching company along the way. Excellent day, albeit quite hot so a dip in the river further along was welcome. Thanks for placing these caches. This was too wet to sign and I note there is a maintenance log already noted.
