Heading out on the bikes with rattll on the HRT between Paeroa and Karangahake and back. Started off a bit overcast, and a couple of showers came through before the morning was done, but a fun ride nevertheless, picking up a few caches along the way.Found after a short hunt. All good inside. Signed, and returned as found. Continued on as the rain came down again. Tftc!
I saw it glinting in the noon day sun. Turn around point for us to day. Straight shot back to Paeroa and home.tftc@
Found - Mrs McMike2012 & I now live full-time in our caravan & travel the country visiting places we want to visit & doing the things that we want to do we are currently parked up at the Waihi Beach NZMCA Campsite decided that we would head down to Paeroa & bike the Hauraki Rail Trail (HRT) from there to Waikino (having done Waihi to Waikino the other day) & look around at some more of the mining history and do a couple of caches while there the cache was easily found, log completed & cache returned pleased to add another 'smiley face' to the tally TFTC ... TN:LN:SL ... #4,691 for us!
Really tall grass in the area made it tough to look without sneezing. Well come back in another season
Biking our way trough this area, we couldn’t leave these geocaches behind, right

Out and about enjoying a rain free day on our bikes grabbing a few finds towards the latest souvenir challenge. Another find in the series, all good at GZ
Apologies but completed these caches a few weeks ago and forgot to log them. Completed with Keylev.TFTC
A nice straight forward find. One of only two found between the 'windows walk' and Paeroa
Thanks for putting this here for me to find
Thanks for putting this here for me to find
A nice quick find thanks.
Ms_KR and I are off on a wee tour of the North Island. The weather was mostly dry today, a bonus. We cruised from Waihi Beach to Paeroa, me on the bike down the HRT trail. A really nice bike ride.
Thanks to all CO's for publishing and maintaining their caches. Cheers.

Beautiful horse in the paddock to keep us company while we found this in our bike back to Paeroa
There were a lot of groups of families riding this part of the HRT so we had to choose our timing to find this one. Another quick find here, before turning around and cycling back to Kopu.
Suddenly remembered it was International Geocaching day, just on sunset, so headed out to nab a cache. Had driven past this one on my way to park for an attempt at the next one to the west. So on the way back stopped to try and find this one. Alas, I was unable to.
We found this in the time of of about ten minutes, its a really cool cache, a fun find.

The Hauraki Rail Trail is closed while the Covid 19 rahui is in place. Anyone geocaching during this time is putting themselves and others at risk by handling the containers, stash and logs. So this cache is disabled until this present emergency ends. I reserve the right to disable any logs dated after the lockdown started.
We decided to do this part of the trail during the long weekend and with the nice weather it was such a great day. The boys and Mrs FriwiNZ went one way from Paeroa to Waihi while I ended up doing the return trip to get the car back. Really enjoyed that stretch of track TFTC .
Out and about with McJandals today. Cleaning up this end of the trail. Plenty of Muggles around, some sort of run taking place. We got swooped by a Magpie here. Lucky I had my Helmut on.
Cheers

Replaced Log. On a trip with Dee trying to get this part of the trail done and dusted. A bit chilly biking this morning but great places to be brought to. II am logging using the Cachly app template so please excuse generic logging along the way. It’s just my way of keeping track, but I do genuinely thank each and every one of you cache owners for taking the time and energy to place these caches. Many Thanks for bringing us back here. Cheers
Found during my third visit on HRT. This time most beautiful section. Section C: Paeroa to Waihi. This time 46km on my bike. Enjoyed so much!
Seen hide from a distance!
All good here.

A quick find as we headed to the nearby tunnel. There had been a few muggles on the trail but fortunately none came past while we made the find. TFTC
Out walking around the area today and collecting some of the caches too.Stopped to look for this one on our way down the trail and no luck so we were determined to find it on our return.Took much longer than it should of due to our gps being completly out but then we stopped to think about some of the other finds we had found by the cache owner.Looked for a few more of these and finally we got it.Very pleased to make this one a smiley.
Find #2857. Biked the HRT from Waihi to Paeroa return while on a winter holiday. A quick find in true Skindo-esque style (if you’ve cached in the Waiarapa, you’ll understand!). SL TFTC
Nice ride this morning, Waihi to Paeroa and return caching along the way. TFTC!
Someone has been here before us today! we wondered in which direction they were headed ...
Out for a bike ride with friends from Paeroa to Karangahake Gorge we called in to pick up all of the HRT caches on the way back. We found all of these caches with the kids taking turns at times to make the finds as well. All caches in good condition. TFTC.
Kiwis69 and myself are doing the HRT the long, yet less painful way. We have done one section previous and it was decided that it was time to tackle another chunk of the trail. We picked to cycle from Waihi - Paeroa as there was a slight time restraint, plus it was the shorter option and I was worried since it had been awhile since I had some serious seat time. All up it took us 4.5hr (which included a lot of hunting at some caches and a few breaks)
Once we had the cars sorted, and then the bikes sorted it was time to hit the trail. The weather forecast was average today and we hoped that would keep the muggles away. Well there were still quite a few muggles out and about but not as bad as it could be so we managed to time our hunting inbetween people passing by.
Starting to get very hot and a bit tired now but managed to find this one fairly quickly
Thanks for the hides and giving us some welcome breather stops!

It's nearly 4 years to the day since our usual caching cronies cycled the HRT trail but without 11hpg11 & myself being part of that group. Today, its finally our turn! Thanks heaps for keeping the HRT series going. Cycling the Waihi - Paeroa section today & really enjoying it. Soon spotted the most obvious hiding spots here, and just had to wait for muggles to move along, before making another nice quick find, TFTC
On Tuesday 28th November I tried to intentionally find 50 caches in a day but failed achieving only 38 finds as I ran out of both charge in my device and daylight. That was two days ago and I hate losing! So yesterday I decided to go back to the drawing board and start from scratch to hatch a plan that would ultimately bring success. And so my strategy for today is to start by collecting the caches along the Pit Rim Walkway in Waihi, and then focus on the cycle ways between Te Aroha and Paeroa, Paeroa and the Karangahake Gorge, and then back on the cycleway north of Paeroa on the way to Thames simply riding until completion. Also, I took a few photos during the day and I will share some of them with this log. So the first leg of the my cycle plan was to leave Te Aroha and cycle to Paeroa. That has now been accomplished and after a quick stop at Maccas it was onto the Karangahake Gorge section of the cycleway. When it came to finding this one, I didn't strain myself at all... and soon had the cache in hand. So log book signed... cache back in its home. So thank you vectis for setting up this cache series along this cycleway. I really appreciate your efforts as you helped me to explore this area today in a way that I probably never would have otherwise. TFTC!
Out geocaching with my parents, this one found by my mum whilst i looked on the wromg side. Tftc
Headed over this way to do part of the trail sadly the weather is crap but happy to continue. Thanks so much for the smiles was still a great day.
Great views and a cool tunnel too.
Great views and a cool tunnel too.
I was determined to get more of the HRT done today, so I parked nearby and walked to the four to the west. This was my first stop on the trail today. TFTC.
After planning a trip to the bay of plenty for easter to gather a cache or two, it changed dramatically (we thought) when we heard that cyclone cook was about to bear down on this area our hopes had dropped .
But no almost the complete opposite, so after getting bike and body sorted it was to the start we went and ride the HRT trail, we started in thames and the plan was to ride to te aroha if the body allowed.
Nice quick find here exactly where and how it should be.
Thanks for the smiley and the placement.

Thanks heaps Vectis for maintaining so quickly. I appreciate you allowing me to log as found. Thank you for this serties to make us get out and about.
Thanks Vectis for re-instating this cache ...disappointing that it went missing but happy to put a smilie face to it now thanks for the cache
I'm sorry but I don't understand the clue. Unfortunately neither did I find the cache. Searched in many spots over a large area but no luck - I wonder if it is there - have I lost my touch? After finishing the series and returning I searched again with no luck.
Had a good look for this ...twice on the way out and on the way back....and no cigars either time looked at every post ...rock and crevice around but no luck
Had to wait for muggles to pass before searching, then the cache was soon in hand.
Signed the log and replaced as found

Made this harder than we needed to, for some reason did not realise hints had been provided, thought it was the name of the cache only! it must be all the exercising I am doing today Thanks for the hide.
Out with Rustynz, Out playing on the bike with friends and Family having a fun time in the sun TFTC
11.20am - We were joined by Phillip Perry after the cito and cache was soon found. SLTFTC
My 7th smiley this morning and the cache was found quickly with accurate coords and a keen eye. The log needs replacing due to it's wet condition and that seems to be a reoccurring theme with the HRT caches I've found to date. The area of these placements are great however and on the whole, a very enjoyable walk with some quality company. Cheers vectis.

With Gap (of Fap and Gap), and Philip.Perry...
It has been our intention to complete the Waihi-Paeroa HRT section for some months. The CITO event in Waihi gave us the motivation to do it... The maps make this journey look arduous. But good company and conversation, great scenery, and lots of caches made this a worthwhile adventure...
It's always pleasing to add an HRT cache to ones' list of smiles... The caches are generally quick finds and almost always in place. However, many of the logs are in need of replacement as they are either damp or saturated. This is just a small glitch on an otherwise fantastic trail. TFTC.

Bit of a crack at some of the HRT today. Could have been better organised and planned, but managed a few caches as part of the cycling adventure. This was one of them.
A reasonably straightforward find. Although the hint was self evident it seemed unrelated to assisting the find.
The log was not in such good shape - which was a feature of a number of the caches found today on the HRT.
Log signed; cache re-hidden safely, just as found.
TFTC found with team cacher Sweet P too
The Turtle strikes again!

Have cycled the Hauraki rail trail from Waihi to Paeroa without stopping to find a single cache so this is the sixth cache of the return journey. I did have a very brief look while cycling in the other direction while waiting for a howonearther to catch up but made more effort this time. Have no idea what the clue is to do with the hiding place though. Trying to get to Waikino to catch the 2.30 train so hoping for some fast cycling and fast finds. We had to leave one of the young geocachers at Nana's house in Thames after breaking her ankle at a netball tournament 2 days ago. Nice little hide. Great day for a ride with overcast skies keeping us cool after last nights rain.
Earlier in the year, tikitour and I decided we would team up and cycle the whole Hauraki Rail Trail over the long Easter weekend and look for all the caches along the way. On Good Friday we did the Thames to Paeroa leg and yesterday we did the Te Aroha to Paeroa leg. Today we left the best till last and did the final leg from Waihi to Paeroa. It was another lovely day today and this section of the trail was a whole lot busier than the other 2, but we didn't have too many troubles with muggles. It was lovely cycling through here and I would come back and do it again. Soon found this cache along the way. TFTC!

Day 3 of our cycling weekend and this was the best of the three days...fantastic track with lovely views, ups and down, great bridges , historical sites to visit, amazing tunnel and of course caches to find. It was a day of great variety, riding and walking. Back on our bikes and through the amazing tunnel. Quick find here..... Thanks for the placement of all the caches.
#11510. We struggled with this one (looking for a "Peter" did not help), but we got there in the end. TFTC.
We were out on our bikes by 8 this morning to ride the Hauraki bike trail from Waihi to Paeroa, with a little detour to do the Karangahake Windows Walk (which meant we missed going through the 1 km tunnel). It was a perfect day for it, no wind, cloudy and not too hot. A great ride with wonderful scenery as well as the history lessons along the way.
We struggled with this hide. I know enough french to put us on completely the wrong track. Eventually StreetWalker made the find - it would have been quicker if there wasn't such long grass hiding the hint objects. TFTC.

Plan today was to ride from Waihi to Paeroa, stay overnight and cycle back the next day. There were 6 in our group (4 geocachers and 2 understanding muggles) A&JKiwis went as far as the train station before turning back and it was great to have some caching company along the way. Excellent day, albeit quite hot so a dip in the river further along was welcome. Thanks for placing these caches.
Chucking down with rain and 5 kids in tow....we will go for a bike ride! Great idea! This marked the furthest point on our little expedition from Waikino. It was back into the headwind and the rain from here after a successful and quick hunt for the container.....which, was more of a 'where would I put the cache' than a knowledge of French or having a dictionary with me!!!

4.30pm. Just as well Rodney knows French but we would still have found it even if he did not.
Thank you David and Rodney.
Thank you David and Rodney.
7075. Did this part of the track with Nodo. As soon as David asked Rodney if he could speak French the hiding place was obvious. It wouldn't have taken more than a few seconds anyway. Thanks for the cache and the pleasant walk. Rodney and Iris.
Walked from karangahake to paeroa. Couldn't find it first time but on the way back I'd had time to think about the clue an Google it. Found cache immediately on return trip
Sixteenth find and cache was found in second location searched. I don't speak french and didn't trust the battery on my phone to last a google search so I just used my instinct....much easier!!

Had a Kereru watching me but just as I turned he camera on to snap a picture he flew off.
