Heading out on the bikes with rattll on the HRT between Paeroa and Karangahake and back. Started off a bit overcast, and a couple of showers came through before the morning was done, but a fun ride nevertheless, picking up a few caches along the way.A quick find here, although had to pause to allow a party of cyclists to pass. Signed, and returned as found. Tftc!
Found - Mrs McMike2012 & I now live full-time in our caravan & travel the country visiting places we want to visit & doing the things that we want to do we are currently parked up at the Waihi Beach NZMCA Campsite decided that we would head down to Paeroa & bike the Hauraki Rail Trail (HRT) from there to Waikino (having done Waihi to Waikino the other day) & look around at some more of the mining history and do a couple of caches while there the cache was easily found, log completed & cache returned pleased to add another 'smiley face' to the tally TFTC ... TN:LN:SL ... #4,692 for us!
All is as it should be. In the name. TFTC. Appreciate the time gone into the hiding and maintaining
Such a beautiful sunny day, a stunning cycle ride and a quick find. TFTC
Third blue face rectified. Not sure how I missed this one last time. Maybe I thought trolls lived further under?
Thanks for putting this here
Thanks for putting this here
Out and about enjoying a rain free day on our bikes grabbing a few finds towards the latest souvenir challenge, this one was next on the list snd located between passing muggle cyclists TFTC.
Apologies but completed these caches a few weeks ago and forgot to log them. Completed with Keylev.TFTC
Out with a group of mates doing the trails. Beautiful day today. Didn't take too long to find this one. Tftc
Quick easy find here. Found with DeadRockFlower as we continue our biking journeys. Tnlnsl. Tftc!!
A nice quick find thanks.
Ms_KR and I are off on a wee tour of the North Island. The weather was mostly dry today, a bonus. We cruised from Waihi Beach to Paeroa, me on the bike down the HRT trail. A really nice bike ride.
Thanks to all CO's for publishing and maintaining their caches. Cheers.

First find on our bike from Paeroa to Waihi. Cool little place to stop for a cache and a drink
There were a lot of groups of families riding this part of the HRT so we had to choose our timing to find this one. An Asian couple of cyclists had stopped very close to gz, so we sat near gz and tried to guess where the cache would be hiding. Once the cyclists had moved on, we zoomed in for a quick find.
The Hauraki Rail Trail is closed while the Covid 19 rahui is in place. Anyone geocaching during this time is putting themselves and others at risk by handling the containers, stash and logs. So this cache is disabled until this present emergency ends. I reserve the right to disable any logs dated after the lockdown started.
Easy find, enjoying these trail caches. We are surprised that more of the recreational cyclists aren't geocachers as well, tftc
We decided to do this part of the trail during the long weekend and with the nice weather it was such a great day. The boys and Mrs FriwiNZ went one way from Paeroa to Waihi while I ended up doing the return trip to get the car back. Really enjoyed that stretch of track TFTC . We overshot this one
Out and about with McJandals today. Cleaning up this end of the trail. Plenty of Muggles around, some sort of run taking place.
Cheers

On a trip with Dee trying to get this part of the trail done and dusted. A bit chilly biking this morning but great places to be brought to. II am logging using the Cachly app template so please excuse generic logging along the way. It’s just my way of keeping track, but I do genuinely thank each and every one of you cache owners for taking the time and energy to place these caches. Many Thanks for bringing us back here. Cheers
Found during my third visit on HRT. This time most beautiful section. Section C: Paeroa to Waihi. This time 46km on my bike. Enjoyed so much!

Not only was this Troll heaven, it was also wasp heaven. There were so many around GZ we almost decided not to to look for this one but Mr Coblet took a risk and was pleased to make a quick find without incident.
Putting the container back then became a problem as all of a sudden cyclists appeared from both directions one after another for what seemed like an eternity.
Finally the coast was clear and we quickly re-hid the cache, avoiding the wasps.
We left GZ feeling quite victorious. TFTC.

Continued our way along the track and it was time to stop and look for the next cache.A nice quick find for us here in a very beautiful spot.Drained out the water whilst the other one of us signed the log.
Find #2855. Biked the HRT from Waihi to Paeroa return while on a winter holiday. Hmmm, don’t remember this one, but my gps says I found it! TFTC
Nice ride this morning, Waihi to Paeroa and return caching along the way. TFTC!
Thanks for giving us the reason to stop here - such a great spot looking down on the river.
Out for a bike ride with friends from Paeroa to Karangahake Gorge we called in to pick up all of the HRT caches on the way back. We found all of these caches with the kids taking turns at times to make the finds as well. All caches in good condition. TFTC.
Kiwis69 and myself are doing the HRT the long, yet less painful way. We have done one section previous and it was decided that it was time to tackle another chunk of the trail. We picked to cycle from Waihi - Paeroa as there was a slight time restraint, plus it was the shorter option and I was worried since it had been awhile since I had some serious seat time. All up it took us 4.5hr (which included a lot of hunting at some caches and a few breaks)
Once we had the cars sorted, and then the bikes sorted it was time to hit the trail. The weather forecast was average today and we hoped that would keep the muggles away. Well there were still quite a few muggles out and about but not as bad as it could be so we managed to time our hunting inbetween people passing by.
No trolls today, just a cache
Thanks for the hides and giving us some welcome breather stops!

It's nearly 4 years to the day since our usual caching cronies cycled the HRT trail but without 11hpg11 & myself being part of that group. Today, its finally our turn! Thanks heaps for keeping the HRT series going. Cycling the Waihi - Paeroa section today & really enjoying it. Another nice quick find here, TFTC
Easy find while tramp in the gorge missed a few due to intermittent rain
and muggles.
and muggles.
On Tuesday 28th November I tried to intentionally find 50 caches in a day but failed achieving only 38 finds as I ran out of both charge in my device and daylight. That was two days ago and I hate losing! So yesterday I decided to go back to the drawing board and start from scratch to hatch a plan that would ultimately bring success. And so my strategy for today is to start by collecting the caches along the Pit Rim Walkway in Waihi, and then focus on the cycle ways between Te Aroha and Paeroa, Paeroa and the Karangahake Gorge, and then back on the cycleway north of Paeroa on the way to Thames simply riding until completion. Also, I took a few photos during the day and I will share some of them with this log. So the first leg of the my cycle plan was to leave Te Aroha and cycle to Paeroa. That has now been accomplished and after a quick stop at Maccas it was onto the Karangahake Gorge section of the cycleway. When it came to finding this one, I stopped and lay my bike on its side and then proceeded under... however, in the middle of my search another cyclist stopped as he saw my bike... and thought something might be wrong. This led to a conversation as to what it was that I was really up to and he seemed genuinely intrigued... another convert maybe? So log book signed... cache back in its home. So thank you vectis for setting up this cache series along this cycleway. I really appreciate your efforts as you helped me to explore this area today in a way that I probably never would have otherwise. TFTC!
Cache found quickly once i had the correct side. Luckily didn't run into any trolls . Tftc
Headed over this way to do part of the trail sadly the weather is crap but happy to continue. Thanks so much for the smiles was still a great day.
Great views and a cool tunnel too.
Great views and a cool tunnel too.
We have discovered many trolls on this trail and there are obviously many more to come
Another one along the trail. The cache was full of spider webs... and a big spider. I made sure the was no way to re-enter the cache to spin more webs. TFTC.
I was out for the day cycling the Hauraki Rail Trail from Paeroa to Waihi with the kids and picking up a few caches along the way (alas not all of them as there just wasn't enough time ) This was the third find of the day but luckily the trolls were away so I could quickly grab the cache TFTC!
Not what I thought it was going to be.
After planning a trip to the bay of plenty for easter to gather a cache or two, it changed dramatically (we thought) when we heard that cyclone cook was about to bear down on this area our hopes had dropped .
But no almost the complete opposite, so after getting bike and body sorted it was to the start we went and ride the HRT trail, we started in thames and the plan was to ride to te aroha if the body allowed.
Nice quick find here exactly where and how it should be.
Thanks for the smiley and the placement.

Luckily the troll looks after his cache. Bit of relief here to find this. Thanks Vectis
The afternoon is drawing to an end and the cache numbers are good ...this one was quickly found and signed thanks Vectis for a great placement
Nice find while geocaching around the area today.

Looks like I missed logging this one yesterday! grr now they are out of order. Never mind, loved cycling the trail, perfect day for it, and luckily only 2 DNF - thanks for all the hides and creating this trail
Biking from Paeroa to Waihi and caching along the way. The cache name was almost all I needed to find this cache. I think I surprised a biker as she rode past when I emerged from the side. Signed the log as 'mdf'. Thanks for the hide!
My 9th smiley this morning and the cache was found quickly and in good condition. Accurate coords and a straight forward title meant there was certainly no need for a hint on this one. cheers vectis.

With Gap (of Fap and Gap), and Philip.Perry...
It has been our intention to complete the Waihi-Paeroa HRT section for some months. The CITO event in Waihi gave us the motivation to do it... The maps make this journey look arduous. But good company and conversation, great scenery, and lots of caches made this a worthwhile adventure...
It's always pleasing to add an HRT cache to ones' list of smiles... The caches are generally quick finds and almost always in place. However, many of the logs are in need of replacement as they are either damp or saturated. This is just a small glitch on an otherwise fantastic trail... No hint necessay... TFTC.

Bit of a crack at some of the HRT today. Could have been better organised and planned, but managed a few caches as part of the cycling adventure. This was one of them.
A reasonably straightforward find.
Some surprise at the time between visits here.
Log signed; cache re-hidden safely, just as found.
TFTC found with team cacher Sweet P too
The Turtle strikes again!

Found on a bike ride on part of the Paeroa- Waihi segment of HRT. Managed to avoid most of the showers of rain, TFTC
Have cycled the Hauraki rail trail from Waihi to Paeroa without stopping to find a single cache so this is the fifth cache of the return journey. Trying to get to Waikino to catch the 2.30 train so hoping for some fast cycling and fast finds. We had to leave one of the young geocachers at Nana's house in Thames after breaking her ankle at a netball tournament 2 days ago. Nice little hide. Great day for a ride with overcast skies keeping us cool after last nights rain.
Earlier in the year, tikitour and I decided we would team up and cycle the whole Hauraki Rail Trail over the long Easter weekend and look for all the caches along the way. On Good Friday we did the Thames to Paeroa leg and yesterday we did the Te Aroha to Paeroa leg. Today we left the best till last and did the final leg from Waihi to Paeroa. It was another lovely day today and this section of the trail was a whole lot busier than the other 2, but we didn't have too many troubles with muggles. It was lovely cycling through here and I would come back and do it again. Soon found this cache along the way. TFTC!

Day 3 of our cycling weekend and this was the best of the three days...fantastic track with lovely views, ups and down, great bridges , historical sites to visit, amazing tunnel and of course caches to find. It was a day of great variety, riding and walking. Back on our bikes and through the amazing tunnel. Quick find here..... Thanks for the placement of all the caches.
#11512. Now that we were out of the gorge, thoughts were turning to an ice cream in Paeroa. TFTC.
We were out on our bikes by 8 this morning to ride the Hauraki bike trail from Waihi to Paeroa, with a little detour to do the Karangahake Windows Walk (which meant we missed going through the 1 km tunnel). It was a perfect day for it, no wind, cloudy and not too hot. A great ride with wonderful scenery as well as the history lessons along the way.
It's taken us longer to get here than anticipated so we were happy to bag another quick find. TFTC.

Plan today was to ride from Waihi to Paeroa, stay overnight and cycle back the next day. There were 6 in our group (4 geocachers and 2 understanding muggles) A&JKiwis went as far as the train station before turning back and it was great to have some caching company along the way. Excellent day, albeit quite hot so a dip in the river further along was welcome. Thanks for placing these caches.
Eighteenth find and still haven't seen anyone since well before the tunnel. Quick find here and no trolls or spiders to cause me grief.
