Day 1 of our two day adventure doing the Rail Trail with BearCache #26Total found so far: 24Another simple find sign and replaceNothing special to report
Thank you for the cache. Out on the trail with PomTom44. Hopefully someone is able to adopt the trail as will be a shame to see it archived. Great series of caches.
Out and about with the shoebs family once again.A nice, quick, easy, find, grab, sign, and flee.TFTC
The cache comes complete with a snail who was happily stuck on the side! TFTC
Biked part of the HRT today, starting at Paeroa and heading towards Thames. Turned around after 17kms and headed back. We searched for 20 caches and were successful with 16. We suspect that some of our 4 DNFs were actually missing, ones that should have been simple finds. Interesting that quite a number of caches along this trail haven’t been found for four or five months. Would’ve thought a “power trail” like this would be a real drawcard to cachers wanting to bump up their numbers!
This was a quick find, the trademark hide of cacher Skindo in the Wairarapa. He has dozens, maybe hundreds, like this. If the hint is simply “Skindo” in the lower North Island, cachers in that part of the country know where to look! #5886. TFTC.

Quick, easy find here today. Found with DeadRockFlower on our bike ride between Paeroa and Thames. One of many on the day. Tnlnsl. Tftc!!
Staying in Bowentown and the weather is awful. Heard a rumour that a drive through the Karangahake gorge would produce good weather. The rumour turned out to be true
Parked up in Paeroa and went for a ride with Ms M.

Mr P and I had the best time, biking, finding caches and just enjoying the area. Highly recommended. T4tc
Out for another day cycling part of the HRT - today from Kopu to Paeroa and back. Today the weather is overcast and perfect for cycling. Glad we got out caching today before the country went back into lockdown as of 6am the next morning. A quick find here between a few groups of cyclists.
The Hauraki Rail Trail is closed while the Covid 19 rahui is in place. Anyone geocaching during this time is putting themselves and others at risk by handling the containers, stash and logs. So this cache is disabled until this present emergency ends. I reserve the right to disable any logs dated after the lockdown started.
Mrs rattll was back on the trail this morning with the intention of riding through to Te Aroha.
Lots more people on the trail during the day time, which meant having to check carefully for oncoming muggles in both directions before starting the search.
No problems making the find here.
Thanks for putting it here to entice me along this trail

Found it on my first trip on HRT from Kopu to Paeroa. 55km bike journey on Easter Sunday! Thanks for bringing me here, for great joy , for great hides.
Did not use GPS here or / and hint.
Went straight to a hide.

It seems that muggles come out of the woodwork only when a cache is nearby.
After having the trail pretty much to ourselves for our entire walk, except for when we found the previous cache when muggles appeared from all directions, the same thing happened again here.
We were about 60 metres away when we heard voices and noticed a couple of joggers coming up behind us. When we got to GZ they were almost upon us so we kept walking and had to overshoot the cache by about 60 metres before they had passed and we could go back.
But when the coast was clear we made a quick find.
We continued to the next cache hoping this wasn't a muggle conspiracy.

A hot day exploring the trail between Kopu and Paeroa and finding a few caches enroute. TFTC.
Todays mission was a short re-run from Hikutaia back towards Paeroa, to pick up caches missed on a previous run through here. Much more success today, we really have figured out when to stop, by using the car GPS mounted on the bike. Anyway we had fun today picking up each of the caches. SL. TFTC.
Heading towards Te Aroha while hubby at a meeting. Great to back in the saddle. T4T$
Found in the obvious place but could only just write on the log as it just disintegrated
We stood here, watching a herd of dairy cows on the move... wondering if they were coming or going from milking.... not quite sure ... so on to the next cache.....
Once more on a day trip with NZPatoto in her motorhome, with bikes on the back to complete part of the Paeroa to Thames Rail Trail. Started in Paeroa and went towards Thames. Set out to find 19 smiles. Achieved 17 and 2 DNF. #12 of 19 Found by NZPatoto. Another easy find. Finally the eyes & brain are starting to work together. TFTC
Nahkins and I put the bikes on the motorhome and set off to Paeroa with the intention of finding the HRT caches from Paeroa to Bridge 19 Thames direction. Had beautiful ice cream at the Cafe. Also did the "Bowls Anyone" while we were close. Had 19 caches. Got 17 smiles and 2 DNF. We had another look at the DNF on way back but no success. This one was mine. Well hidden but easy find. Thanks.
On Tuesday 28th November I tried to intentionally find 50 caches in a day but failed achieving only 38 finds as I ran out of both charge in my device and daylight. That was two days ago and I hate losing! So yesterday I decided to go back to the drawing board and start from scratch to hatch a plan that would ultimately bring success. And so my strategy for today is to start by collecting the caches along the Pit Rim Walkway in Waihi, and then focus on the cycle ways between Te Aroha and Paeroa, Paeroa and the Karangahake Gorge, and then back on the cycleway north of Paeroa on the way to Thames simply riding until completion. Also, I took a few photos during the day and I will share some of them with this log. So the first leg of the my cycle plan was to leave Te Aroha and cycle to Paeroa. The second leg of my journey was to cycle from Paeroa to the midway point of the Karangahake Gorge section of the cycleway. All of that now complete, it was time to return to Paeroa and head north to Thames until I hit my target. When it came to finding this one, my phone got me to the spot before it died completely… but having remembered the details I persisted until I found the cache. So the log book has been signed... cache back in its home. So thank you vectis for setting up this cache. I really appreciate your efforts as you helped me to explore this area today in a way that I probably never would have otherwise. I now need to hoon off down the track and meet Mrs Sherlock who has the charging pack… I am so close to getting the 50 now. TFTC!
Grab a few cache's and gave up a lot more while biking the rail trail from Paeroa
to kopu them back to paeroa via the road. Weather was fine and very warm.
The trail got a bit boring after a while (farm land) (farm land) out in the open
but the surface was good and you could travel at a good pace.
Had a few DNF like the trolls, found a couple of rocks and a bit 2x3 in
places that could of been where cach's could of been plus missed a
few as well.

Updating my new geo account with my old finds. Geokid has grown out of the geo adventures, but I'm still keen! Found as thebrownehornet but not logged, with keylev and Team SEAC and finally logging 02 04 2024 as NurseDr.
A group of us arranged to ride this leg (Kopu to Pearoa) of the HRT as it was the only leg not done by our group, but we see another leg was opening today....soooo maybe some more caches will be hidden along that route....
Located this one swiftly and without any muggle issues as they were all on the newly opened trail.
Signed in as SEAC17 to save log book space.
Thanks for setting the trail and maintaining it.

This leg of the Hauraki Rail trail from Kopu to Paeroa was the last leg that we needed to complete the whole series. Mrs Keylev suggested that we do this and it just happened to be her birthday. This coincided with the opening of another section of the trail from Kopu to Miranda! There were lots of cyclists there for this but we basically had the section from Kopu to Paeroa to ourselves.
A well maintained series with only ONE DNF!!
We signed the log as SEAC17 to save log paper.
We stopped for lunch at the Convenient Cow where we all seized up and getting back on the bikes afterwards was a mission. Total 30 Ks biked and even the younger cachers did the whole lot. An awesome day!
When is the Kopu to Miranda leg going to be populated Vectis

The SEAC (South East Auckland Crew) started this set of trails around 2 years ago. Life got in the way and this was the only one we had not yet done so we decided to finally do something about it.
We had not realised a new section of the track was opening today so the start of the trail was really busy at Kopu but then other then only a couple of muggles we pretty much had the trail to ourselves.
It was a great day, aside from the very strong wind, sore legs and sunburn.
Thanks for the cache.

Day 2 on the e-bikes with gernita to pick up this HRT power trail. Thanks for placing it.
Biking to Thames today collecting caches along the way thanks Vectis for the great placement
I was out for the day cycling the Hauraki Rail Trail with the kids and picking up a few caches along the way (alas not all of them as there just wasn't enough time ) This was the ninth cache of the day and was another cache I hadn't intended to grab but was waiting for others to catch up and went straight to the cache just by reading the title TFTC!
After planning a trip to the bay of plenty for easter to gather a cache or two, it changed dramatically (we thought) when we heard that cyclone cook was about to bear down on this area our hopes had dropped .
But no almost the complete opposite, so after getting bike and body sorted it was to the start we went and ride the HRT trail, we started in thames and the plan was to ride to te aroha if the body allowed.
Nice quick find here exactly where and how it should be.
Thanks for the smiley and the placement.

Being watched by the farmer. Continuing on the trail. Will get it all finished one day.

I was out with the MCC biking the HRT from Kopu to Paeroa. I originally just heard 'post', then got the full picture and found the cache. TFTC.
We were out with Agazo biking the HRT from Kopu to Paeroa. A great bike ride and legs were jelly by the end of the day
Today the Squirrel and I decided we would try and clear the remainder of the HRT Trail, so we walked and biked section to complete this, starting at the Te Aroha and heading to Paeroa. Once this leg was done we went to the Thames end and back to Paeroa. Caches were found fairly quickly with the hints given. We replaced 2 very wet log sheets with new ones and one where cache container was missing. Improvised and found a large piece of timber and used as log sheet, hopefully owner will replace. SLTFTC
With Gap (of Fap and Gap)...
We've been wanting to complete the HRT for a while now. We've picked up parts of this trail over several visits, and now we're left with the more 'out of the way' hides. We have no choice but to bike these sections. It's going to be a long ride between caches...
Another quick find after a brief search... TFTC.

Down from Auckland today to cache in Thames then this HRT trail. Caching with 2 keen cachers supernanny and harisree and we're working our way south to Paeroa. we have 3 bikes, but as it turned out it was a lot easier using 2 of the bikes for the girls and I do the driving and make them hot drinks from time to time as they showed up, we would snack together then carry on. It seemed to work well. I did caches close to the roads and they did the rest.
Getting a bit tired now .....nearing the end of our bike trail for today .....
Oh there it is ! Easy with hint ! Thanks !

A group of us met to tackle the HRT Thames to Paeroa leg of caches, including ourselves, yorkshirekiwi83, KirsTim, Tikitour and Vistra. We signed as the EasterBs (bunnies, or bikers? We couldn't decide). The ride took us longer than anticipated, but it still made for a great day of caching with some fantastic company.
A quick find while on route. Thanks to everyone who has placed all the caches along the trail today. We really appreciate all your hard work!

Earlier in the year, tikitour and I decided we would team up and cycle the whole Hauraki Rail Trail over the long Easter weekend and look for all the caches along the way. On Good Friday we did the Thames to Paeroa leg and we were joined by yorkshirekiwi83, vamber and kirstim. The weather was overcast today and luckily the rain held off until the end of the day - we had a great day out! This cache was soon found along the way. TFTC!

Headed down south for a long weekend of cycling, walking and of course caching. Teamed up with Vistra for the three days and were joined by 6 others on the Friday. Started here from Thames heading down to Paeroa on day one of the HRT. There are a group of 8 of us so we have signed the log as a group the Easter B's to save log room. Thanks for the cache.(sorry about the same log).
Joined up with Vamber, Yorkshirekiwi83, Vistra & Tikitour to hit the HRT Thames to Paeroa bike ride. A long but successful trip, with all but 1 cache signed. Weather held off with only a few spits of rain, thanks for laying all these caches.

The call went out from TNXPro for the final leg of the HRT we had left to do, so of course I could not miss this opportunity. Had a fantastic day out with TNX, Splatty and his Dad Tony. The weather was amazing and company great. Thank you to all the owners of the caches we found today

Will have to be my turn around point for today. Back to Paeroa now to pick the boys up from basketball training. Enjoyable ride out here this morning. TFTC
Nearly finished this leg of the cycle trail. Really enjoyed it and nice to have caches to stop at too thx.
Meant to be raining today but it wasn't and I had the day off, so twisted the muggle hubbie's arm and we biked up part of the Paeroa-Thames trail in between milkings and naturally found a few caches on the way! I thought that it might have been a little more rolling here instead of dead flat but that was an incorrect assumption. Had a strong headwind on the way there (to the café!) so of course we cruised back to Paeroa after lunch. I missed a few of the caches out so that we weren't continually stopping, and had planned to leave this out. However I happened to notice the title of this cache so was surreptitiously looking out for it. Wasn't long before the appropriate landmark came up, and bingo - there was the cache without even turning the Garmin on! TFTC - made the bike ride much more interesting.
